I used to have an iPhone and one thing I really liked was when I restored my iPhone, it would automatically restore all the apps I used, and even put then in the folders I had them in, on the specific screen I had them on. I then moved to Android and was very happy to see that my Nexus 7 2013 running lollipop and the Google now launcher did the same thing after a reset and restore.
I was thinking that was a feature of lollipop or the Google now launcher. However, I recently reset and restored my verizon samsung galaxy note 3 running lollipop and using the Google now launcher, but when the phone restored, my apps and folders and screen arrangements did not restore on their own. I had to load my apps, build my folders, and arrange my screens all over again. Is there a way that I can make my verizon samsung galaxy note 3 restore the way my Nexus 7 tablet does, and the way iPhones do?
Thanks
The default on Android is to restore apps from Play Store but not the app settings. There is a setting to turn that off. Maybe you did that?
As for restoring folders, I don't use stock Touch Wiz so I don't know. I use Nova Launcher so I have to back up my screen settings so I can restore them later.

Thanks, I might try nova launcher. So it will arrange my screens the way I had them after a reset?

No. After you install Nova Launcher, get the screen the way you want it and backup your Nova configuration, THEN you can restore your screen if something messes up your system. But be aware that you'll want to download all your apps before restoring your Nova backup. If you don't, Nova will create dummy stubs for apps not installed.

Hi!
Couple of days ago I've asked about sprint stock apps for DK28. Very strange thing, I've flashed the apps trough the CWM how instruction says and I can see it in the System folder but I couldn't run it. Especially widgets like FeedandNews or something like that.
How I can make it work after flashing?
Are you using the default touchwiz launcher? or a replacement launcher like launcherpro or adw? Only asking because the Samsung widgets will only work/be available if you're using the touchwiz launcher.
I have the samsung widgets for dk28 and I only use the progran moniter one and it just magically dissapears off my home screen when ever it wants to

Hey. I think my question is mostly around locking down apps somehow.
I have an N7 and i want to be able to give it to girls when they come over to play games, browse the web, Facebook etc.. Can anyone recommend the best way to hide all my stuff? I wanna load it with tonnes of games (all the stuff i bought but never played) but still have an app or two on there for me. Evernote, gmail etc.
I have chameleon and nova launchers, figured in nova i can hide apps but they can just be shown again via the options menu.. There's no password option.
Im running stock jb, rooted.
My only other thought is to manually backup>verify>uninstall via titanium apps like Gmail, then manually restore when i want them??
I searched for app lockers but most seem to be poorly maintained / aren't compatible with jb or are easily bypassed by the recent menu..
Does anyone have any suggestions for a device i can safely share with other people?

This is why I like Go Launcher:
It has a Running Apps section in the App Tray
You can hide apps
You can lock the desktop (nice for kids so they don't screw up your mojo)
While I don't personally use Go Launcher, it is pretty high in features and functionality. It has folder support in both the App drawer and desktop, themeable, and attractive. Sure you CAN unlock apps through options, but they'd probably never find it.
Somewhere I saw a profile manager where you could setup different users with different launchers, wallpapers, and apps. Might be worth checking out.
Go launcher also collects more data than it needs.
Remember CIQ? Yeah like that...

Yeah profile management would be perfect, like a login on a PC.. there was some mention of google getting a patent for this based on face recog but.. I might do a search to see if there is secure profile management somewhere..

Thanks for the tip. I'm wary of those premium but free apps sharing info >_< plus having paid for nova (albeit on the 25c sale) and chameleon, i'd rather find an option that uses those..

I'll check this out and post my thoughts, thx =)
CM10 (and other ROMs I am sure) also have the profile options. It sounds exactly like what you're looking for.

You can try app protector apps. You can lock it down with a pin

I would try a Profile Manager, one for kids/missus, one for you.
Then you can easily switch between them as and when you need.
ZDBox has an app locker which seems to do the job for me.

Yet to try those apps but so far the best solution I've found is to "freeze" the apps in Titanium Backup
It moves the links from the launcher.. every launcher, as if they arent there at all.
There seems to be a batch defrost/unfreeze option, but I'm not sure if theres an easy way to re-freeze a set of apps..
Not sure if titanium backup has a PIN / password option though.. but it would be complicated for a non-tech user to figure out how to unfreeze apps in Titanium Backup..
You could try SwitchMe. It basically reboots the tablet when you switch users. Each user can have their own apps, etc.
App lock could be worth a look.
Freezing in titanium is my solution and works great for that purpose unless she's an android nerd and you pissed her off enough for her to install titanium and thaw out your frozen apps.

You should def look into hide it pro. I've been using it for a while n love it. It gives a fake crash report dialogue to unlock apps n hides pics n videos

I got my nexus 7 recently and seems to have the battery drain issue. I monitored the apps running and all that. Adjusted settings according to some of the threads I've read.
I wanted to reset my N7 and don't plan on rooting it yet. However, I've spent hours downloading apps, placing icons and widgets where I like them on my screen. I also created google chrome website via link icons on my screens to quickly access my favorite websites.
Is there a App on the play store that will restore the apps, settings, wallpaper, icons and widgets?
So far I see there's titanium and nandroid (requires root) and mybackup (without root).
*I was happy to get rid of all my apple products but only miss the restore function

Under settings go to Backup and Reset. Make sure Back up my Data and Automatic Restore are selected. It will save your settings and a list of your apps on Google's servers. When you re-setup your Google account your apps will automatically re-download and install.
You can use wug's nexus root toolkit, take a full apps backup with data and shared folder. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766475

thanks, I'll look into that one, seems promising.

Having a problem on my new note 3, if i use Nova Launcher it keeps crashing every single time when adding a widget.
I have tried reinstalling multiple times. But the same error occurs over and over again. Also tryed clearing the data and cache, but nothing seems to help.
Also tried the latest betas, im currently using Apex, but Nova is my favorite. Please help a frustrated guy!
Kim
you can try cleaning your cache with clean master or kinda programs, but install nova then clean master and you can uninstall. clean master should warn you nova left some cache and file behind and delete them. this requires no root.
or
if you have root you can backup your apps first then clean cache with cwm and wipe then restore apps.
do these at own risk, hope it works. No cons for me if something goes wrong or you lose data ...
Same problem here...
Just bought the prime version of nova yesterday. The launcher crasher every time I try to do something. I'm on a Galaxy S4 tho.
Tried uninstalling + cleared cache, worked fine at the beginning, after I configuring it like I wanted he started crashing again
I have nova and it is working fine

Nova prime works a treat on my SD800 N3
Might say something to Nova about the Note 3 crashing because it might be an Android 4.3 and Note 3 issue. Same with the S3. I have a Nexus with 4.3 and Nova is perfect.

I remember having the crash issue with the Note 2 and just gave up on some widgets. However I notice that most launchers I use will eventually crash (SSL Launcher, Themer App, Nova). To be specific the launcher does not crash rather it lags and when I open an app such as chrome, then the app crashes but the entire experience is very laggy. I reboot to fix all issues and for now have decided to use touch wiz.
hi
i want to backup folders and the layout of my google launcher, how can i do it with app?
thanks
someone knows?
thanks
I don't know any app that can do that, not even Titanium Backup, but a few days ago, after I got my new 6P, I was coming from a N5, when I was restoring data from my N5 at the initial wizard, it restored all my icons and widgets like I had on my N5. This of course was using Google launcher on both models. I guess Google now backups and restores Google launcher icons and layout!!
I had the Pixel launcher on my N6, and the setup process transferred the layout too to my 6P.
yes it is but what if you want to change version of the launcher and than going back to the version you had...everything is deleted, or when you delete the data from the launcher for testing new version again everything is deleted, here i need backup
