Hey. I think my question is mostly around locking down apps somehow.
I have an N7 and i want to be able to give it to girls when they come over to play games, browse the web, Facebook etc.. Can anyone recommend the best way to hide all my stuff? I wanna load it with tonnes of games (all the stuff i bought but never played) but still have an app or two on there for me. Evernote, gmail etc.
I have chameleon and nova launchers, figured in nova i can hide apps but they can just be shown again via the options menu.. There's no password option.
Im running stock jb, rooted.
My only other thought is to manually backup>verify>uninstall via titanium apps like Gmail, then manually restore when i want them??
I searched for app lockers but most seem to be poorly maintained / aren't compatible with jb or are easily bypassed by the recent menu..
Does anyone have any suggestions for a device i can safely share with other people?

This is why I like Go Launcher:
It has a Running Apps section in the App Tray
You can hide apps
You can lock the desktop (nice for kids so they don't screw up your mojo)
While I don't personally use Go Launcher, it is pretty high in features and functionality. It has folder support in both the App drawer and desktop, themeable, and attractive. Sure you CAN unlock apps through options, but they'd probably never find it.
Somewhere I saw a profile manager where you could setup different users with different launchers, wallpapers, and apps. Might be worth checking out.
Go launcher also collects more data than it needs.
Remember CIQ? Yeah like that...

Yeah profile management would be perfect, like a login on a PC.. there was some mention of google getting a patent for this based on face recog but.. I might do a search to see if there is secure profile management somewhere..

Thanks for the tip. I'm wary of those premium but free apps sharing info >_< plus having paid for nova (albeit on the 25c sale) and chameleon, i'd rather find an option that uses those..

CM10 (and other ROMs I am sure) also have the profile options. It sounds exactly like what you're looking for.

You can try app protector apps. You can lock it down with a pin

I would try a Profile Manager, one for kids/missus, one for you.
Then you can easily switch between them as and when you need.
ZDBox has an app locker which seems to do the job for me.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...xLDEsImNvbS56ZHdvcmtzLmFuZHJvaWQudG9vbGJveCJd
Yet to try those apps but so far the best solution I've found is to "freeze" the apps in Titanium Backup
It moves the links from the launcher.. every launcher, as if they arent there at all.
There seems to be a batch defrost/unfreeze option, but I'm not sure if theres an easy way to re-freeze a set of apps..
Not sure if titanium backup has a PIN / password option though.. but it would be complicated for a non-tech user to figure out how to unfreeze apps in Titanium Backup..
You could try SwitchMe. It basically reboots the tablet when you switch users. Each user can have their own apps, etc.
App lock could be worth a look.
Freezing in titanium is my solution and works great for that purpose unless she's an android nerd and you pissed her off enough for her to install titanium and thaw out your frozen apps.

You should def look into hide it pro. I've been using it for a while n love it. It gives a fake crash report dialogue to unlock apps n hides pics n videos

So, over the year(s), I have installed, tried, uninstalled, hundreds of android apps on multiple devices.
So I got my new Nexus 7 and wanted to browse through my list of apps in Google Play. Problem is that there are too many listed there. If you scroll through (I guess it's most recent first) it takes dozens of scrolls to get to the end.
And if I find a few things I want down near the end of the list, once you install one, the list goes back to the begginning!
I'd like to be able to remove from the Play Store listing, those 100 or so apps that I know I will never be reinstalling.
Also, the web version of the play store, only shows the first 180 or so, I can't even get to those labled P through Z!
Search yielded little so I turn to you for help.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
I'd like to know exactly the same thing. So far not found anything.

Permanently removing uninstalled apps
At this time, there is no way to permanently delete or remove apps from the Google Play website (My Orders/My Android Apps) or from the Google Play Store app (My Apps) that you’ve previously downloaded but have since uninstalled.
Too lazy to type lol...that was too easy but u sure knocked it out the park
Browse the play store in landscape so you don't have the list reset every time.
I wish they would at least let you filter your old apps... I'm much more interested in seeing the apps that I actually paid for lol.

Anyone wanting to see paid apps only, you need to install this modified play store APK from Modaco.

Just in case anyone is interested...
I've been a Springpad user for a while, and use the 'spring it' feature from the Play store app to create lists - purchased apps, essential apps, etc. It's really helped with organisation. I just click the saved link from Springpad, and I'm sent straight to the relevant Play store entry.
Yeah, so it's a bit of a dirty fix, but it suits me until Google get the Play store niggles sorted. Guessing it will work with other task/organisation apps, but haven't tried...
I've rooted my Nexus 7, and I wanted to know if anyone has a list of Apps that I can safely remove from it. For example, can I remove Google Currents, Google +, Messenger+, Play Magazines, Play Movies and TV, and Google Talk using SysApp Remover? I know having google apps installed instead of the Cellular Bloatware is a blessing, but I'd like to have this thing as clear as possible. Thanks ahead of time!
I removed all of them, nothing bad happend and i think nothing will happen to you, since those apps don't have any influence on your device system it should be fine.
In addition to the ones you listed you can safely remove: bubbles, downloads (you'll want a replacement file manager app), keychain, live wallpaper picker, phase beam, setup wizard, tags, email, email exchange, Google Korean keyboard, Google pinyin, wallet, if using a different launcher can also remove launcher. There's a few others you should be able to remove safely but I'm only listing ones I know for certain that won't affect functionality.

Thanks for the reply. I don't mind Phase and such, nor Live Wallpaper picker, but I definitely wanted to get rid of Currents and such. Thanks!
Root
If you are rooted you can remove what you want.....
Can somebody tell us the locations in the system folders where we can find the apps?
I´ve got the same "Problem". I´ve rooted my Nexus 7 and want to remove the unnecessary apps, e.g. Currents, Google+, Talk, Messenger, and so on.
I don´t want to erase some important or usefull things.
/system/app/
You can access it by allowing the 'up to root ' setting in es file exp
Cheers Danny
Don't forget to install a launcher before removing the stock launcher.

Excellent advice.....been there
Upgraded to 4.4 with a clean wipe. I uninstalled some of the Google apps I never use such as currents ect. After awhile some apps start to force close such as settings. After I reboot or wipe cache or both the apps then reinstall themselves. Strange. I have never had a problem like this in any other version of android. Anyone else?

yea, i found out two weeks ago that you cant uninstall system apps in kitkat without getting a fc in settings. my way around it, i disabled 19 of the apps found in /system/app/ instead of deleting them. it seems to work just as well. pick any of the apps, select to view its info, tben press disable in the app info screen. itll remove that app from the app drawer as well.
Thanks Simms. Your one helpful dude! I always felt better totally getting ride of them to open up more space but it is what it is.

its what i do too, and always done. i have found that you can delete a few apps in /system/app/, like plus one, but they cant be considered system apps. its one of the first things i noticed about kitkat, that settings fc after removing system apps.

This is wrong on so many levels. After years rooting and running custom roms, I'm suddenly stuck with a load of bloatware if I upgrade to 4.4. I only use the account manager and Play Store and don't want any other Google apks, and would like to do without even those two, in fact I have no Google account 99% of the time and both are disabled unless I have to update something.
Hope there's a way out of this...

Need some help. I've installed a speedometer app (switch that lights up the console in my truck went bad) and am having trouble getting rid of the icons in the app drawer. So far I've tried to reinstall the app and uninstall it with no luck. It doesn't show up in titanium after uninstalling the app. I can't find an apk after uninstalling the app. Any help?
What app? Can you back into the play store and install it that way?

Sorry. Forgot details. Locked bootloader, rooted running gpe ROM thru safestrap. Digihud speedometer is the app spedo app
I could upgrade nova launcher or use another launcher to hide the problem. And I would go insane knowing I didn't fix it.

Interesting app, it looks cool but it really f'd up my device. I could uninstall it with tibu but it left something behind. Do you have a nandroid you can restore? Do a wipe before restoring the nandroid. That was the only way I got my device back to normal

Well ****.
Hi, developer here
Hi guys, ok this is something I've not seen whilst testing it on the few physical devices I have and in the emulator. I'm not sure what's happening here but obviously I'm keen to help if I can.
The app has two main parts, the full screen display and a windowed view that is shown in front of other apps, the latter runs as a service. Both parts have settings in the manifest to enable them to be launched from icons and two icons are created when the app is installed. Whenever I've uninstalled the app both icons have been removed from the app drawer. My devices are mostly but not all rooted.
Feedback has been mixed about whether two icons are needed; some people don't want the window icon and ask how it can be removed, others like it so they can call it with other apps like AutomateIt. Because the majority of feedback was against it I've removed it from the paid version of the app...but now there are requests to have it again. Hopefully my solution will be to be able to install a shortcut if required.
Sorry, back to your problem! I'm surprised TIBU doesn't remove it if I'm honest, although the Android uninstall should remove it all. There's nothing unusual or malicious in the code (i'm really not that clever!) to prevent it uninstalling.
If a link to a particular version of the .apk helps let me know and I'll post it if I can.
I'll do some more testing and see what I can find and post anything useful here.
Sorry for the hassle.
James
Would a catlog help in troubleshooting the issue. As JD said it is an interesting app. The HUD display works great (very clever idea there), but I want to be able to remove that icon. I like to keep my app drawer paired down to as few apps as possible and that one icon sticks out to me.

Hello folks
I am new here, and I am having a serious issue with my brand new Nexus 6P.
In fact, authorizations concerning certain apps (mainly Whatsapp and Chronus) are getting automatically removed by the system even though I had previously authorized those apps to access my contacts or my calendar.
The outcome is really bothering, because as for whatsapp it doesn't matter whether I restore authorizations manually through apps settings, I still cannot see my contacts on whatsapp, with the result that I only see many phone numbers for each chat, and if I go to the contacts tab, it appears to be empty, so the app still is not granted to access my contacts.
The only way I found to solve this issue is by uninstalling and reinstalling whatsapp, but still this problem returns after less than 24 hours, and it's really bugging me because I can't keep on uninstalling and reinstalling whatsapp daily.
Also with chronus I am having similar issues concerning appointments display, sometimes the app widget randomly says that there aren't enough authorizations in order to display the appointments, while I previously set that.
What should I do? Any suggestion? Please help me as all this is really bothering in everyday usage.
Thank you
What apps do you have installed.
Specifically, apps that mess w the OS
Well... I am using Nova launcher, and I also installed an app to lock the phone from the screen itself (lock screen)... as for the rest, they're all quite ordinary apps, nothing that really messes with the OS, I am not rooted and the bootloader is locked
Maybe I missed it, but your giving them Permissions via Settings Apps? And its not sticking?

Exactly. Even if I already granted permissions, the grant doesn't stick and after a while the OS denies apps all by itself.
And as for what concerns whatsapp, even if I restore the authorization and grant it to access my contacts, I still cannot see my contacts displayed in the contacts tab, and if I go back to app permission settings, I still see that whatsapp figures as granted
uninstall those apps. restart your phone.
see if they stick.
if not, Id factory reset
Ok I'll try and keep you posted, thx
