[help][recovery][gt-i9505] - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello to everyone,
I'm experiencing a problem during the installation of a custom recovery (CM in my case) on my Galaxy S4 (I9505).
I do the procedure with odin, flashing the tar files and it goes till the end with showing the "PASS" message at the end.
I reboot my device but there's still the original recovery! No CW installed
Anyone can help?
If you need more info of the device just ask.

untick auto reboot.

Realistically, you shouldn't be using Clockworkmod as it is no longer being updated. You should be using TWRP instead. With that said, be sure you're using the original cable and are not plugged in through a hub. Also, do not attempt to enter download mode from a reboot. Shut the S4 off first, then enter download mode, as entering download mode from a reboot tends to not function correctly.

Done with TWRP. Thanks to everyone

Nexus7 doesn't load CWM recovery

So I rooted, unlocked and installed CWM recovery touch (latest version) with Nexus 7 Toolkit. I also renamed manually recovery files with root manager.
CWM recovery worked only the first 2 times after I installed it. Now if I try to shutdown my N7, I press UP+DOWN+VOL and I select Recovery Mode, it stucks on Google logo! So I must press power button for some second to force reboot and returning to JB os.
Why CWM recovery doesn't work now? How can I solve this issue?
EDIT: I installed rom manager and selected "Reboot in Recovery" (second option) and I loaded CWM recovery. But why can't I load recovery directly from boot?
You have to be connected with usb cable to load recovery from the bootloader

Why? I always installed cwm in hundred devices and no one of them required USB cable to boot into recovery

its a known issue for nexus 7's bootloader.. until there is a fix from google, u have to connect to a computer with usb cable when trying to enter recovery mode..
OK thanks guys

Mouse, you have received incomplete information. I have Rom Manager 5.0.2.0 installed with the 6.0.1.0 Recovery. If I go to Rom Manager and re-flash the Recovery, then choose Reboot into Recovery, I reboot into Clockwork Recovery. Try it yourself. You just have to reflash the recovery before choosing to reboot into recovery.
You can also reboot into recovery from within a terminal shell or by adb, that's not a problem. The problem is the boot loader which boots into recovery only when usb is connected with a PC.

There is no need to re flash every time
You only have to have usb in when selecting recovery from the bootloader.
Selecting reboot recovery within android will load it fine

Yes it's true! I flashed recovery only once with toolkit but if I would load it I have to plug an USB cable or reboot in recovery with apps such as root manager or quick boot. This issue is also reported in nexus 7 toolkit FAQ

Hi,
It has nothing to do with toolkit or whatever, it is a bug I had often, if would wipe the system, it would let me again

There is an app called quick boot that can reboot to cwm if that makes things easier, in the play store its a blue icon with a lightning bolt through it

i have the same problem, when i try to launch recovery from bootloader it doesn't load, but i don't understand what you mean with being plugged with usb, i should get into bootloader and then plug the cable to windows, or should i plug it with the toolkit open or something like that, basically, what is the procedure to make it work at least in this way?

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE (GT-I9506 German T-Online Branding)

hey guys, I'm trying to flash a clean rom (kitkat google edition) on my S4 LTE, the problem is I'm failing to install the cwm or any other recovery! I search some threads, tried different recoveries, different odin versions, and everything is flashing fine, but after the install via odin, it reboots, and no recovery! still the old e3 one! Im not a complete newb (I hope x)), did flash my SE X10, my Atrix 2, but failing this one.... mb its the firmware I need to change or the boot loader? android version is 4.3, if u need any details I can provide just ask ^^
I used these steps:
Steps to Install CWM Recovery on Galaxy S4 (LTE+) I9506
Step 1: Extract the Odin 3.07 .zip file using WinRAR/7-Zip/WinZip or any other extracting tool.
Step 2: Copy the Root Package .zip file to the SD card of your phone.
Step 3: Switch off the Galaxy S4. Then boot the device into Download Mode by pressing and holding Volume Down, Home and Power buttons together until a construction Android robot icon with a warning triangle appears on screen. Now press the Volume Up button to enter Download Mode.
Step 4: Run Odin on the computer as an Administrator.
Step 5: Connect the Galaxy S4 to the computer using USB cable while it is in the Download Mode. Wait until Odin detects the device. When the device is connected successfully, the ID: COM box will turn to light blue with the COM port number. Additionally, the successful connected will be indicated by a message saying Added.
Note: If the Added message does not appear, then try re-install USB drivers or changing the port on the computer.
Step 6: In Odin, click the PDA button and select the CWM/PhilZ Touch .tar file. Verify that Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time checkboxes are selected. Also, ensure the Re-Partition option is NOT selected.
Step 7: Double-check and click Start button in Odin. The installation process will now begin.
Step 8: Once the installation process completes, your phone will restart and soon you will see a PASS message with green background in the left-most box at the very top of the Odin. You can now unplug the USB cable to disconnect it from the computer.
thx for the help)
i9505 and i9506 are differents and you cant apply same method for install a custom recovery. Follow this thread for install the recovery: HERE. Try it by your own responsibility. Anyway the phone is branded and I dont think you cant change the recovery.
Did u flash i9505 recovery and worked?

makes no sence, there is a recovery for i9506, 3 actually, and no, I didn't. after odin succesfully applies the recovery (so it says), it is auto rebooting NOT into the new recovery, but into the android system. after manually rebooting, the old recovery boots up. there are tons videos and guides how to root 9506, the thing is I stuck after the odin flash, with the old recovery

That's simple. All you do is ucheck auto reboot in odin on pc, when flashing custom recovery is complete from odin pc unplug it then long press power button until it switches off then press vol up home and power and boot to recovery and disable recovery flash

[Q] Stuck at Samsung Logo after flashing stock rom

Hi guys,
I have been reading the xda forums for quite some time, a year or two maybe, but this is the first time I have acutally signed up, and created a thread.
I just recently bought a Galaxy S4 VE (I9515), and rooted the device yesterday (CF 9505). That all worked very well. After that, I used the CWM App to install Clockworkmod 6.0.4.7 Non-Touch (again, for the I9505), and that worked too. I created a full backup in CWM, and then formated "/system" under "mount", to then proceed and install Cyanogenmod 12. Once that was installed, I noticed that the ROM was for 9505, and that the 9515 (my device) seems to have problems understanding my touch input, hence the touchscreen wasn't working.
So I flashed it using Odin. Here is where the problem starts:
1. Quality USB cable used.
2. Went into download mode, and plugged it in
3. Device conntected and detected by my Windows 8 PC
4. Used Sammobile to get Stock Firmware for the 9515.
5. Flashed it using Odin under AP/PDA.
6. Once done, the phone first boots and shows "Recovery booting" on the galaxy s4 screen. It then shows the green android symbol, and after RUSHING through that (there is a bar, and I'm sure mine is filling up way to quickly), it reboots, the "recovery booting" font is gone, it shows the samsung logo and is stuck on that.
Any suggestions for that? I just bought it recently as my I9305 had a dead eMMC...
Hello,
Boot in recovery mode (volume down+power keys), choose wipe data/factory reset and reboot

Phone not botting up, stucked in samsung logo

Hello,
my s4 i9500 not booting up any more just got stucked in logo and then powered off..
I tried to flash recovery and full rom but in odin the process stops in initialization step and not moving forward and also in download mode no progress bar showing up... I tried many cables but same result with all..
I am also not able to boot in recovery too, just I can access is download mode but that also not working..
I went to service center too and they said the pcb is dead but how as samsung logo is showing up and download mode is available..?
Please, help me to get it fixed...
Try to flash twrp or cwm via odin first, boot in recovery, flash stockrom or customrom, wipe all caches and dalvik then reboot

Unable to install in download mode, odin getting stucked in initialization step and not moving ahead...
Your issue is somewhat tricky:
I Think you hard bricked your device, but it was your fault(that your device got hard bricked)
As you did weren't patience on odin, this always to everyone flashing, but at the most the time it moves

SM-N910F stuck in recovery mode

Hi,
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (SM-N910F) and are stuck in recovery mode.
When I boot the phone it goes directly to recovery mode.
I have flashed it with the right original Samsung rom for the phone via. Odin and everything was a success (at least that what it said).
I have tried to factory reset it from recovery mode and again without errors.
But it still returns to recovery mode when restarting.
I tried to install Kies as well (and refreshed the usb drivers) but Kies can't see the phone (Odin can still see it).
Anyone who knows what I can do?
Thanks in advance,
Simon
From Odin, install TWRP. And then, from twrp, flash a new rom

Hi pj1jker.
Worked like a charm. Thought the device was bricked. Thanks a lot.
