Moto, Knox, Wear - Wear OS Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all, couple of questions.
Most important, I have an S5 that is SEVERELY crippled by my employer. I mean they lock this thing down like lunatics. I have a Gear FIt, and it passes notifications fine. I got a Moto360, and I am not getting any Knox notifications at all (I used to, a few months back, when I had an LG). Is there a setting I'm missing? Or is it possible they hobbled it even more?
That said, I can't load any watch faces (can't install any apps not on their approved list). Can you sideload watch faces to the phone directly? Or is it all through the phone?
Thanks!!!!

You can hook your watch to a computer and use adb to install any app.
The code is
Code:
adb install watchfaceorapp.apk

Thanks man. I will find a walkthru.
Odd question, for anyone, I keep my phone on vibrate all day. My Gear Fit would vibrate whenever it got a notification or message. Is there a setting for that on Wear? Where I can default vibrate for any notifications?

[Q] some newbie questions

Hey everyone,
first off, I've tried searching (this forum and google) for a lot of stuff, but I still have some questions ( I started out with a ton haha).
I just bought a droid x, and I switched from the original storm (blackberry's first touchscreen phone)
1. gmail- I have my school account (which is a business gmail account) as my primary google/email account, and I don't like that when I check my email on my phone, it automatically marks my actual inbox (that I would check on my computer) as read messages. On my blackberry I would get all my email, but the messages would still be new when I went on my computer. That was very helpful for keeping organized. Can I still do this?
2. computer syncing- blackberry had a nice program that automatically synced everything on the phone with the computer. I realize that google does this over the air, but I'd like to have my contacts/calendar/life in sync with outlook. The blackberry program synced: contacts, calendar, photos, (videos and music if I wanted too, but I didn't bother with that), notes, and tasks (and more?). I found a google calendar sync that I am using to keep my outlook up to date with the android/google calendar, and I found a media manager from motorola that I can use for getting pictures off the phone in an orderly manner. I'm worried about other media. What about contacts and notes and stuff? Google doesn't have a sync option like for the calendar. Is there a program I can use to do all of this? or at least the contact stuff? I'd rather not have to export a .csv every time i get a new contact.
3. Rooting/roms--When I bought this phone, all the reviews basically said that the X was possibly the best hardware available and the worst software. I've gotten confused when I looked around at roms. Is there a standard pure google Froyo build that I can put on this phone? Is there a version of HTC sense that will port over? Has gingerbread been ported yet? Is there a sense or motoblur version of gingerbread yet?
4. speaking of gingerbread- how good is moto about updating there phones with new android builds? Any chance of us getting this in my lifetime?
5. apps. I remember reading a review a long time ago about a really really cool program that would let you do basically anything in your imagination with your phone- it was basically a if-then app that had access to every part of your phone and you could get your phone to do whatever you want when something happened (even as stupid/ crazy as opening the camera app if you received an email and stuff like that).
6. how do you determine which apps are best? is there a trust worthy site that rates them?
7. speaking of apps, are there any ones that I really need? I have Ti backup (im still trying to root this thing, no luck so far), google goggles, and a flashlight app. Any other essentials?
8. Media. I've heard that android has a really bad media player compared to zune/wp7 or ios. Is there an app that mimics either of these media players? or what is a really good media player?
9. what is the difference between a rom and a theme?
10. I've heard that this phone starts out laggy and gets faster over time (according to engadget)- my phone is really laggy only a day in (im not running bunches of apps (yet), I haven't even downloaded that many. Is this par for the course?
I'll have more questions, but that's a bunch to start off. Thanks a bunch everyone, I'm really excited to tear this phone apart and see what it can do!
Edit- I got it rooted, I used z4root instead of the PC based one I was trying earlier
1.?
2.?
3.z4Root is the way to go as you did I see
4.like anyone else when Hell freezes over your local Developer's are the best IMHO.
5. Titanium back up,kouch's Droid recovery. for your specific phone style. Root Explorer, and Astro. too name a few.
6. & 7 ratings and what people have to offer. its still a chance now the Google has a 15 minute window the refund .Marketplace and Appbrain
8.I use PowerAmp But that my choice there a few good one to choose its all your taste most have a demo version.
9.Rom's is the engine...Theme is the paint... froyo is the chassis
10. get rid of the Crapware by reading up, then stepping up, to a deblured Rom KEEP READING....
best to yeah ...
1 & 2 don't effect me so I just use whats available I really don't need a calender.
Ok
5: That was tasker. I found it. Any opinions on it? I think im going to pick it up to help with my next question.
11: Coming from a blackberry, one of the biggest things I miss is bedside mode. Basically, whenever the phone was plugged into A/C (so every night) the phone would switch sound profiles and some other stuff. This let me:
turn off the notification LED, mute email notifications, change the ringtone for texts, lowered the volume of my call ringtone, turned off vibration, and displayed a clock on the screen.
I don't really care about the clock on the screen, but otherwise I'd like to replicate this. Is there an app that can do that? Or should I pay for tasker? If anyone has experience with it, is one of the "if" contexts going on A/C power?
(12, kinda) :I haven't found any way to turn off the notification LED at all; am I missing something?
Thanks again guys

[Q] Using wear actionable notifications on other platforms

I had an idea while browsing the wear forums on my PC with my phone in my pocket. I got a text message and it popped up on my computer using Pushbullet like normal. However I thought about how I have always wished there was a way to reply to text messages and other types of notifications on my laptop. The actionable notifications added in JellyBean kind of added this but there is still no way to reply to a message from your computer using your keyboard. The big thing stopping this from being a reality is that all app developers would have to support some kind of standard that would tell the phone what to do with the rely you are sending it from your computer.
Now with Android Wear, developers can add these kinds of reply actions to their apps so that they can be controlled by voice on the Android Wear device. My question for those of you more familiar with the Wear API is could an app on the PC interface with your phone over Bluetooth and basically pretend to be an Android Wear device but with its keyboard as input instead of using your voice on the Wear device? This would make it much quicker to reply to messages and maybe even some of the other Wear functionality could be implemented.
So what do you think? Could it be possible or is it more work than it is worth? Or is it not possible to tell from the current state of the Wear API? If it is possible to do and no one else decides they want to work on it I might even try, the novice programmer I am, to play around with it and see if I can get something to work.

i think AndroidWear supposed not use hardware things!
Like what happened on Google Glass and smart-watches.
and About AndroidWear, it s preview and so limited. thr s nothing to install app on AndroidWear Devices
it s just for notifications But it s possible to add action to use keyboard on android device & maybe other device like pc
if i remember correctly u can use AirdDroid to push notification to PC interface through browser and then reply.

DM98 Smartwatch Help

Hi i just got my DM98 smartwatch and had a few questions for anybody that has the answers.
1.) I got the watch synced to my phone and i wanted to be able to send and receive text messages, make and receive phone calls, and use the internet.
Question: is there an app or trick to make this possible or am i just S.O.L. ?
2.) I have read that it is possible to create your own clock faces.
Question: Is there a guide that details how to do this?
3.) Question; if i want to do anything do i need to root?
These are all the questions i have at the moment. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

The trick is simple - go to the play market and look for notification software with a set of features you want.

The guide is simple - you should write your program. It's the most flexible way. Second option - you can go to the market and look for face designer or similar application. It' limited, of course, but you can try it. Third option - get watch face that you like and go into it's folder. There you'll find some pictures and may be fonts. Now you can delete the pictures and replace them with your own (with same name, of course), then restart your watch face application and you'll see your pictures instead of removed. It's most limited customization, but it's simplest.
Here is one watch face application.

If you really want to do ANYTHING you in fact need a lot of money first.

let me clarify a little bit.... i want to do this all through bluetooth. i have tried a bunch of apps and none see my DM98 Smartwatch as a bluetooth headset or anything of the like so i am a little confused with the explanation.

It shouldn't be a headset. It should be something like phone or smartphone with the ability to transfer any data. To connect to DM98 first turn bluetooth on on both devices (DM98 and your phone), next make one of the devices available to connection requests, then the device will advertise itself and second device should see it. When it's seen just touch it and select "pair". Only after this you can start your notification software and use it's communication features.
In short - you should pair devices BEFORE any third party application can do something for you. The pairing is performed using Android's bluetooth settings, no third parties should be involved.

You are talking about communication software. Chinese smart watches usually have just a subset of such functionality. It means you won't get everything pushed. But you can try to look for such software at the market. Search for key words like "notification" "smart watch" and so on.

Hi, I have a question, how we do for have the sms on the watch via bluetooth?
Reset
Have you ever tried resetting the smartwatch there's like a small pin hole in the very back of it take something to stick in it the watch will shut off and you just restart the watch back up and that should have fixed the issue
No 1, you can try these aps to enhance your dm98
1. Watch android phone
2. Android control panel
3. Heads up notifications
4. Rotation control
[SOLVED] Still getting used to the tiny keyboard, I had a typo.
I just got the Dev C14 (Bluetooth reports it's actually the DM98) and when I try to log into the Playstore with my existing account, I get past the email and password, but then it says to "Type in the text you see here" with a prompt but I don't see the text. Can anyone help please?

For downloading software use wifi. Start with Google play, etc. Best for installing software is to do it from your computer: just log in to Google Play windows.

Personally I use the much more stable Droid Phone and Droid Watch, on Google Play.

Huawei Smartwatch (stainless steel)

I got this knowing I have an iPhone. I love the watch (despite the battery life. Any way to help that??) I am trying to find a way to receive my iPhone messages without being connected to my iPhone. I thought ok the google hangouts way will work (I do have a google account) and it says the app isn't compatible with my watch. I'm wondering is there any way I can get my messages from my iPhone to my android piece WITHOUT being connected via Bluetooth?? Calls would be awesome too but I'm just gonna take one step at a time here. I mean, I know you can jailbreak/unlock phones so I was just curious of any way. TIA
Other things I'd like to tweak...
1. Can I get rid of the Agenda? I won't use that
2. This is my OCD but I absolutely HATE when smart things use redundancy like I have Fit (and you can access workout and breathing from there)... whyyyy do I need an extra Fit Breathe and Fit Workout app?!?!? Lol ticks me off. I want that gone
3, Any way to customize what shows when I swipe left, right, up, down?

LEM4 Pro/General app questions

Hi! So I've had this wonderful watch for a few days. Finally getting everything set up, having to use Nova and custom actions, didn't like any of the clockskin faces.
Anyway, a couple of things that I can't figure out and might be related to other watches like this:
1) Google Fit won't count steps. The pedometer is on in settings, when I install the app it updates and shows the steps from my phone. But then, nothing. Doesn't update at all. Is there a workaround? Maybe use another pedometer app to link to Fit?
2) Google Fit and a few other apps I tried can't read the heartrate sensor that the built in (bad) app can. Is there a workaround?
I think all my problems are that this watch doesn't know it's a watch, it thinks it's a phone. I wish we could get custom ROMs on this, I'd seriously pay 30 bucks for someone to get Wear / Open Wear on this!
Sorry, I don't have any workarounds for the Google Fit issues. I do have a question though, how are you getting the watch notifications to show? I installed Nova as well and can't seem to get any of the system notifications to show.
I too would be happy to pay for a ROM.
