[Q] Wifi - Turning it on became soooo slow - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
Since my GT-I9505 got the Lollipop update a few months ago, turning on the wifi is taking around 50 seconds. Connection works normally but turning on the device itself is a really slow process.
I was hoping that the latest OTA update would fix this little issue but nothing changed.
I did some research but couldn't find anything to solve it, even though I found some people who's got the same problem.
Can anyone help me?
I'm running stock rom, version I9505VJUHOF2.
Thanks in advance!

[Q] Flight mode issues

I couldn't find any other threads on this so here goes..
I've owned the S2 for over a month now, and recently I've noticed something very annoying on it. Sometimes, during a call, I do nothing and the phone just decides to switch to Flight mode, and then I cannot end the call, or switch back to normal mode. Only a reboot will fix it.
And, at times, when I try to pick up a call, sliding the answer option does nothing, and as usual, it goes back into flight mode. I am still on the stock rom with no changes done on it yet. Does anyone else have this same issue ? I'm
I've realised that it happened to me once since I got the phone for a week now, obviously, it is a simple fw bug and it it will be ironed in future updates by the way im on kf3 now with no such problem yet
I would be inclined to do a factory reset.this can solve many problems. Be sure to back up what you want to keep! For sms i used go sms to backup my messages!
*edit or as above poster has said if you are able to use kies to upgrade firmware!
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
@OP- On what firmware are you on?
I have considered a factory reset if nothing else works out. But before I go ahead with that I wanted to check if there's any other solution.
@ithehappy: I'm on 2.3.3 XWKE2
Found a solution?
I am facing the same issue as you guys are. Has anyone found a solution?
Arjun, did you try a factory reset? If so, did it resolve the issue?
Thanks!

[Q] lagging S4

I am not so much of a noob but just don't really know where to put this. Srry for any inconvenience in advance.
The problem is that I have a GT-I9505. Tried to root it a while ago but only thing I got was a flagged binary. ( gonna fix that btw soon ) But since KitKat and some updates from all of my apps, my phone is lagging. It waits several seconds to open any app. If I am typing the letters appear about 3 seconds after I types them. This goes espescially for Whatsapp. And no I don't use beta, just the latest version.
I would understand this happening to me because my phone is slightly altered. But my girlfriend has exactly the same problem but the phone is untouched.
So my question is: Has anyone experienced the same problem of lagging? And if so is there anything I can do about it except for a factory reset?
grtz in advance Maverick ®
ps the lagging gets worse when I load the battery. Either on normal power or hooked up to my laptop of pc

I had it when my battery was damaged. Try to see if a new battery helps.

Tnx 4 the reply, I guess it is worth the trying although I find it curious that both phones experience those symptoms after the kitkat update touched or untouched.. But I will keep it in mind tnx again

What you could do first is to backup and then a factory reset. Then its easier to rule out some software problem.

^This. You can also try updating to the latest firmware 4.4.2 (it has 2 updates: the one updating to 4.4.2 and the other one for performance and stability). I noticed that I was lagging like crazy when I was still on 4.3, but when I updated to 4.4.2, the lag just went away.

How to turn off the OTA update checks?

Dear friends,
I went back from the lastest version of firmware (.134) to previous firmware, however I don't know how to turn off this irritating OTA update checks and messages to postpone it.
It is turned off in the update settings (I mean autoupdate is off and wi-fi option is off).
Does somebody can help in this, please?
Thanks in advance!
PS. I changed this because awfull battery life (about 20 hours comparing to ~90 hours on old firmware).

Finally I found it. It is system update service. I just cleared its data using Titanum Backup and freeze this service and voila! No other irritating messages regarding new version of firmware!
But this is only possible if you have a root ;-(

Yes, That's right. But root on Yotaphone is simply and very usefull (e.g. to install AdAway). So, it's worth to have it installed.

Pie update available as of today (18 Jan 2019)

Got the Pie update notice today along with January security patch. My question is for those who, like me, waited until the official notification to update.
With so many here experiencing problems with the previous update(s), it's hard to distinguish which threads are for it, custom, or for the latest Xiaomi update. Did you update to Pie in January? Are there any issues you've noticed with the update? Should I pull the trigger on the update or wait?
Any info is appreciated, as always.
Regards,
KB
I just directly installed January update, migrated from Oreo. Didn't face any issues as of yet.
By the way how do you guys turn on FM Radio?
No data since update.
I did the update earlier today and haven't been able to get mobile data since. Can anybody help me?

That sounds like a serious issue, and one that makes me think I might just wait a bit on this update. Thanks for the feedback, and I hope you get the issue resolved. Where are you located?

I'm am located in Japan. Did the update while connected to wifi on WiFi. I never even questioned it as never had a problem in the 14months I have owned the phone.

I understand. I've not experienced many of the issues some have with the updates, though the battery issues a few updates ago were driving me crazy. Those seem to be resolved now and I can easily get 2 to 3 days out of a charge. The only reason I hesitated was I read some of the threads from the initial update Xiaomi put out, and was trying to be sure this one was less troublesome before allowing it. I saw a couple of folks complain about the loss of WiFi and Data on the first update, so perhaps all of the initial bugs haven't been squashed. I'm in Thailand, so need it to be as clean as possible.
Again, hope you get the issue resolved. Let us know if you do.
I am from Czech Republic and I can say I don't have any LTE issues, battery is great. No issues with Pie at all.
@KB_Thailand
If you are a big fan of gcam.. Then dont update, else do it.
For me everything is working fine, except gcam focus issue.
Stock camera works though.

You need to connect a wired headphone in the 3.5 mm jack, then you will get FM.

Well it works for me. Just unlock the bootloader, put the phone in fastboot mode, boot twrp cosmicdans from adb, flash magisk and when it boots open magisk and download camera patch for pie. It's really easy but i think when you unlock the bootloader you lose your data so think about it.

If you are stock 100% do it, if not hang out a while, no big issues now for stock, very few people on stock have had an issue with the latest Pie, those that do have very simple easily fixed things.

Try the last page here, changing the IPv4/IPv6 setting, it fixed it for others who had a problem.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a1/help
I have also lost my data connection since the update.
Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this problem?
EDIT : It seems that the update deleted the apn configuration. Re-entering it solved the issue.
Based on the positive responses I went ahead and did the update since my A1 is stock. So far so good with no issues I've noticed. Both data and wifi seem to be working properly.
Thanks for the responses!
After updating to pie many of the users including myself face an issue where the mic volume has reduced a lot. Other people can't hear me properly on normal voice calls

Thank you for confirming that,
After rooting, and installing the magisk patch, can I completely unroot and lock the bootloader, and will the patch still work?
Will unlocking the bootloader also wipe data?
(i thought only locking bootloader will wipe, we can use the vol button trick)
Thanks in advance.

1. Unlocking bootloader wipes data
2. Does your phone contain nuclear weapon key? If no, then i don't see any reason you dont want a unlocked bootloader. (Manufacturer denying warranty for unlocked bootloader is thing of past, MI has no problem with it. Also you can lock phone just before giving it to MI store in any case)
3. As long as you install apps from playstore, i also dont see any problem with a rooted phone either.

I just want to stay stock and receive official updates and with gcam working as like on oreo. That's it Bro.,
That's why i wanted to unroot and keep the BL locked.
Will the vol down key avoid wipe for unlocking BL as well?
And will the patch work after unroot?
Thanks
