[Q] FIRST Smartphone what to do? -LG G2 D802 - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, first of all sorry for doing such a noob thread but it's literally my first smartphone ever, I just bought the LG G2 D802 and I really don't know what to do now.
I don't even know how to handle it correctly yet, like navigate around and stuff, so when I say I'm a noob, i'm the noobiest of the noobs; first time ever handling with a smartphone.
Since I don't know anything about anything in the smartphone world, trying to read the threads and understand anything seems quite impossible.
So what I've got a few questions;
What are the first things I should do?
Like which apps should I 'immediately' delete or disable because they just a waste of space/battery (I'll check a guide on how to do that ).
Also, since I really don't know anyyyyyything, the fact that android is so customisable makes it really difficult to know what to do here. Should I leave the stock 'operating system' or wtv it is, or is there like a general consensus on a 'best, less-buggy operating system' that I should change to?
Is there a noob-friendly guide or something about this questions? Sorry if I'm asking things that might be answered somewhere else already!
Well for now I don't remember any other question since I don't even really know how to handle the phone well yet :x
Thanks!

Just use it and take your time!

Unhacked, unmodded G1...What should I do?

I have a G1 that I love and except for market apps is pretty much stock. I've read the forum but most of the talk is geared for people with more technical skill and knowledge then me so I need some answers in plain english. What would you do with it (including memory cards) to get the most out of the phone and why? Thanks guys!
If you don't know why you should do something - don't do it.
However, there are things you might like to do or want, that requires a rooted phone. If (when) that's the case, this site has very good instructions on how to do that.
/Mats
I had no technical background before doing anything that is possible with "modding your phone", but I read for weeks till I felt safe enough to do it and now I've taken most of the advantages that the community has brang forward.
I loved this phone before rooting and I love it even more after. I would say research root till you feel like you can take the plunge, if you dont feel comfortable, dont do it. Just my .02
if you have no technical brackground and woul like to root your phone there is an app now that does it with very little user input. there are all kinds of great things you can do with this phone and i am not gonna tell you that you should or have to do any of them, but odds are there is going to be something that you find that makes you go "damn i wish i had rooted my phone" at that poing in time you can go find the "app that roots your phone" (search that on the main dream forum or in the development subforum and you will find it) and then you will be able to do just about whatever you want with your awesome phone.
as a warning i would suggest that before you do anything on your phone you should read the entire thread or article about the modification, and read al user comments, that way you are familiar with what to do if you mess something up.

Some help with my Magic please

Hi Folks,
I've had a TP2 for a while now and modded it loads of time with help on this site and wanted another unit with android so I bought the magic from another user on here called thedalmeny, the deal went through flawlessly may I add.
I am not a noob when it comes to modding but I am when it comes to the magic! I have a Vodafone branded Magic in the UK 32B.
Now the Magic was rooted when I got it and has Qteknology Devs Roms for VodaMagic 32b.
How do i find out which SPL has been used on it?
Also, I'm finding this rom to be a bit slow, which one's could I use instead?
And i'm getting a notification, "SD card is damaged" it's asking me to format it. If I do this via the phone is that ok?
thanks for the help.
I don't wanna be an ahole, but seriously. You just asked a ridiculous question, it's the most simple and most basic question. it's answered EVERYWHERE because you NEED it if you even wanna root your phone, it's the first thing you check. Seeing as how you modified your TP2, you should have some knowledge on how to look up info yourself. Please don't tell me people spoonfed you every step of the way.

Have you even tried looking for help? Start here: I click on the dev section and theres a bunch of stickies. People also always ask which roms they could use, take a look at the other 8126189217 threads. But seriously: Do something yourself. Spoonfeeding = more horrible questions. I don't see why your questions should be answered here when they're all already answered elsewhere. Trust me, you'll continue asking more and more. There's a lot you have to know and you could learn all this if you read things and searched.
As for the third question, I guess thats an ok question, not really but sort of. Why is it not ok to format via phone? I don't see how it could damage it more or anything. Just make sure everything on your sd card is backed up incase.
Hopefully from now on, you can do some research yourself and if you get really stuck, we'll definitely help.
Haha, love it. Don't worry, I don't take offence easily!
Come on, I see these types of questions all the time and they always get answered.
Yes, I realise this one has been answered, not exactly the way I would've liked it but still it is much appreciated.
I have already done a whole bunch of reading, I just wanted the learning curve not to be so steep...
Flashing a TP2 rom seems a piece of cake compared to all the messing you have to do with the magic.
My real q was to do with the SD card really, I added the other 2 as a cheeky try to get info easy, don't worry, lesson learned.
The reason why I asked about the SD card because I've read that you need to partition this and that and did not want to format the sd card incase the format would not make all the necessary partitions and it would in some way brick the phone. I know, I know, how could the sd brick the phone. Just wanted to check.
Cheers.
Yeah the learning curve is a bit steep, but if you need help or something you can just send me a pm and hit me up on google talk or something. The SD card only has to be Fat32 and you're set. Theres other things such as swap/ext partitions which are explained in other help topics but to be honest, you don't need them. It's more for the old G1/Dream devices. You can use swap if you want but I find my phone perfect without it. if I'm correct, it may even cause some damage on your sd card (although im not 100% sure). But yeah, if you really do need help (I personally find it easier talking to someone rather than reading a billion instructions as well) then let me know via pm.

Whole HEAP of noob questions (sorry, but my head is hurting!!!)...

I have been playing around with SD builds since they first came along on the HD2. I have done a lot of skinning (and a really small amount of coding!) in WinMo/CHT. I am an intelligent guy, but I am beginning to think that everyone who's really into Android is speaking a different language to me! I have searched and read and searched and read, but really hope there is someone out there who knows what they are talking about to answer these few utterly basic questions which I can't find simple answers to
1. Are all of these builds that are being cooked for HD2 already rooted (I did say basic!)?
2. If not, how do I tell and what do I need to do?
3. Does Magdlr allow you the option of retaining WinMo on device and booting into an SD/RAM Android build?
4. What is ADB and does it do anything I can't already do on my phone with ESExplorer/Root Explorer/Titanium Backup?
5. What does mount/unmount SD card mean?
6. How can I tell what mods from other device threads can be safely applied - is it basically whatever device the HD2 ROM is based off is a safe bet for mods (framework.res, etc)?
7. Why is it all the devs never answer reasonable questions in their own threads and everyone in the Android forums treats you like a total idiot if you don't know EVERYTHING already! (Don't need an answer to this one, just blowing off steam )
So please, if anyone can stoop low enough to offer me answers in my quest for a basic understanding PLEEEEEASE do. And if we can make this thread a safe haven for fellow idiots to ask blindingly stupid questions of their own then so much the better

1. Most of them are, if not, you read the 1st post and it's most likely being mentioned there.
2. Read 1.
3. No. You can check the Android Development Section (non NAND) to use builds running from the SDcard so you can keep your WinMO)
4. It's a piece of software where you can edit/copy/add files and scripts to your connected Android device. Personally I don't use this.
5. IT mounts, or unmounts your sdcard. (Please do a google search)
I'll leave the other answers for what they are... as you are blowing off steam.
The only thing i can tell you is to read before you start. There are topics for first time users that explain how everything works. Read these topics and i doubt that anything can go wrong.
Sorry if this is not a satisfying answer, but there are more and more of these threads piling up with questions where answers easily can be found on XDA and if not, Google a little bit. I've been answering so many questions from people that or "can't find" the answer or simply are too lazy to do some homework before they take the plunge into Android.
1. They are supposed to be but sometimes the end up not been rooted properly.
2. Just install z4root from market.
3. No, it was suppsoed to have this feature originally but not sure if they changed mind or posponed it.
7. Because devs get far too many questions that have already been answered in abundance. 90% of questions can be answered if you do research. If you serach and cant find a answer then ask in the relevant questiosn forum unless the question specifically relates to a specific build. Plus devs dont always read all posts because teher is far too many retarded ones liek "hey thanks" (which is why the thaks button has now been added).

Faith in XDA members duly restored, thanks. Like I said, I have read and read, and have been resisting asking these questions because I can easily find the answers to the bigger more complicated ones so though I must be missing the basics everywhere I looked. So thanks for taking the time to answer, sorry if anyone thinks this thread is unnecessary (mods please delete it if you think it needs to go).

I do admit sometimes it's a big pile of nonsense where you have to read through to get a straight answer, though with persistence and the will to know Android and setting it up, it will get you somewhere.
Next to that, I am very happy i've restored your faith in all XDA members

[Q] What can i delete??

I have just got my Play, and i totally love it, but now i am starting to feel i should, how do i say this, trim the fat, so to speak.
I just wondered what u guys thought were the LEAST useful things pre-installed on the Play, and what to get rid of/replace.
I know this is probably a total noob question, and to be honest, when it comes to Android i am a total noob, hacked/customized every other console and phone i ever owned, but this is a totally new front for me, so any help, hints or tips would be great.
I have not root'ed it yet, and i am still thinking weather i should or not, but that will be a question to ask another time.
Thanx in advance to everyone!
Adam.
Well, for starters, search the forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046699
I have a fair bit of installing custom Roms on Android phones and i can honestly say this -
Unless you are rooting the phone in order to help develop custom roms and tweaks there really is no point in rooting it at the current moment.
Gingerbread is excellent at managing apps and the Xperia Play is designed so that games run independently from your homescreen.
"Trimming the fat" will offer almost zero benefit at the moment.
My advice is to wait a while, let the experts put together some custom Roms and gain access to the Kernel, allowing us to overclock.
Until then, i do not see a reason to root at all.
Sorry, i had a load of tabs open and was meant to post in a different thread. Mods feel free to delete. Sorry.

[Q] spy on someone's Samsung?

Hello, I am new to this forum and I came here to ask if there is any possibility for me to spy on my man his phone. I've tried Google, but all what I found is very priced spy software. Ive checked several threads before making this thread but I couldn't find answers to my questions. I hope I'm not at the wrong section or forum for this!
Also, please don't think I'm paranoid. I have all the reasons not to trust him because he lied alot to me, though he claims that he has never cheated on me.
I either want to bust him with this or be able to trust him after spying on him and nothing could be found.
I don't know alot about android phones since I have a iPhone and never had a android (my man has a Samsung, not sure which one but I can find this out if necassary, its quite new and has the size of a tablet so I'm guessing it's a note 3?)
His phone is not rooted. I rather not do that. I don't want to mess up his phone and as far as I know you can tell if your phone is rooted by looking at your downloads. Unless he agrees with me rooting his phone this could be an option, but I can't give him any good reasons why. Our computer broke recently, so rooting with a computer is not possible.
And finally I would like to state what features I'd love
Browser history logs
Logs of In and out going calls
Gps tracking
Recording calls*
Recording environment*
Make photo/screenshot*
Acces to images
Whatssap messages*
(*) I think that the ones with * really require a rooted phone, but I can always try, right..? Maybe there is someone here with a solution for me
Also, I'm not familiar with hacking, sorry! But if you are willing to help me with this, try to avoid hacking language please! (I dont know what a rom is or flashing for example, not being English makes it harder for me)
I don't mind donating!
Thank you in advance for replying!
If you've checked similar threads you would also have come across several moderators informing the posters that we do not support these activities.
If you feel you can't trust him, what the hell are you still doing in that relationship? Trust and respect are the very foundations of a healthy relationship. If those are gone, do yourself a favour, get the hell out.
Ohw! I haven't noticed that, I saw developers having threads that were offering these kinds of features. If that is the case then a mod can close my thread.
I agree with you that trust one of the most important things is in a relationship, but ending my relationship with him isn't that easy, we have a kid. I don't mind that he sometimes lies to me for his own good, I just want to find out if he's cheating, because if he is, I'm grabbing my stuff and leave him.
Looks like you should find some time and sit down with him to discuss the relationship issues between you and him... spying on him is one sure fire way to end the relationship.
Anyways thread closed.
