Hi folks,
My wife dropped her 2-week old Nexus 4 which caused part of the front glass to crack and portions of the touchscreen to be dead, so we had to send it into LG for repairs (at quite a price tag). Fine.
So we get it back, I turn it on, and it's in something called "FTM Mode" (file transfer mode, I think)? I can't seem to get it out of it.
Things I've tried:
Rebooting (have to hold the power button down for 5-10 sec).
Factory data reset (the settings are available through the notification menu in FTM Mode).
In recovery mode:
[*]Start (goes right back to FTM Mode)
[*]Power off (duh)
[*]Restart bootloader (gets me right back to the same screen)
[*]Recovery mode (gives me a little android with its stomach open, a red exclamation point, and says "No command.")
I attempted LG support, but they asked me to do a few of these (after asking me to hit the "home" button...), then told me to mail it back to them because they probably have to flash it.
So, the obvious question: how the hell can I get out of FTM Mode?
Secondary question: if none of the above worked and I do have to flash the OS, can I flash it myself to default Jellybean? Any idiot-friendly step-by-step guides out there?
Here you are! (I was the one talking to you on Reddit)
Since you can get to fastboot you can just flash the stock image files and you should be fine! The toolkit is in the original dev section but you cannot download the images from it anymore. A few people here have the images though so hopefully someone will pop up with them shortly

No worries! You can use the toolkit without knowing fastboot, I just recommended learning it in case you ever need to flash without it. I believe after you download the toolkit there will be a folder you can place the stock image into then you can use the toolkit to flash the image from that folder. I'm not 100% what folder that is though but I believe the name makes it fairly obvious if you look for it

Unfortunately, I haven't even been able to install the bloody USB driver, so fastboot/adb can't even see the device. I've described by problem here. I think the source issue is what LG did during repairs... the device is named "Full JellyBean on Mako" instead of something like "Nexus 4", so the drivers in that post aren't being recognized by Windows as valid for the device. At least that's my guess.
OK, got it all fixed.
This post was incredibly useful. Once I got the USB drivers installed and fastboot recognizing the device (oddly, adb wasn't able to), it was extremely smooth unlocking the bootloader and flashing the image.
Thanks!

For future reference ADB only works in recovery and when booted into android, never in boot loader. Bit glad you got it working

Dropped my nexus 4 yesterday and it fell right on the edge of the screen shattering it. First time I've broken a phone, and this one seems like a particularly bad one to have broken - no reasonable price screen replacement with the screen attached to the digitizer.
Anyway the phone boots up and charges fine, but I can't unlock it, which means my computer isn't connecting to it. Is there any way I can save all of my photos and other files?

To be clear, I can't check because I can't get past the lock screen. I also have no way of turning the phone off, I just have to wait until the battery runs out and then I have one chance to turn it on. I'm wondering if there is anything I can do in recovery mode that might help?

Setup adb http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-set-up-android-adb-and-fastboot-on-windows-tutorial/
Plug the phone in while its at the lockscreen, and run "adb devices". If the command returns the serial number of the phone let me know and I'll give you further guidance. If it doesn't it'll take a bit more work but we should still be able to get it done.

Set it up, but no devices listed
It's frustrating because it's so tantalizingly close. I have a pretty good idea that when I send it in to LG they are probably just going to send a different refurb back. I find it hard to believe that they do a 1 to 1 repair job on each phone that comes in.

Alright. This is what you'll need to do: unlock the bootloader, flash cwm recovery, boot into cwm, use adb to copy the contents of your SD card to your PC.
Read this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2266654 . only follow the parts to unlock the boot loader and flash clockworkmod custom recovery. Make sure that you flash the recovery right after unlocking (without rebooting in between) otherwise data will get wiped. )
After that boot into your newly flashed recovery and use "adb pull /data/media/" . this should copy everything on the internal sdcard of the phone.
Sent using xda-developers app
Search for how to unlock the bootloader without wiping all your data. Would be moot otherwise...
Of course if all that's been done in the past and you already have cwm/twrp, just boot to that and you'll be able to adb in.
Also, you can hold onto the power button for 10s to force it to power down.
EDIT: restarted and tried again, making some progress now.

Again, that's why we go into cwm/twrp. Insecure debugging is enabled there.
Awesome, it appears to be copying everything over now!
Can't thank you enough! Just saved a years worth of pictures and videos, that pretty much chronicle the start of my current relationship up to the present.
Of course right now it is just pulling all of the EA real racing data, but I assume it will eventually get to the pictures, haha.

Apologies, i was a bit rushed. So i'm trying to get all my pics/data off my phone as my screen is smashed and i had a pattern lock on. My phone did not have usb debugging enabled. So i unlocked the bootloader, didn't do a reboot, flashed a custom recovery and then entered the recovery. However, my device isn't recognised in windows once i enter recovery and as such when i run "adb devices" no device is listed.
In the original instructions, it says:
After that boot into your newly flashed recovery and use "adb pull /data/media/" . this should copy everything on the internal sdcard of the phone
So how come once I load my recovery, when in cmd prompt, "adb pull /data/media" doesn't seem to work?
I'll be honest, i'm a little lost at this point and just really don't want to lose all my pics and thought i could get them this way before sending my phone for repair/replacement (it is insured)
Thanks for your help

Before you can run the adb pull command, you'll need to get your phone recognized by "adb devices". Try installing Koush's adb driver.
Hi All,
I had TWRP recovery on this LG D802. Because download mode wasn't working i flashed a stock recovery. Since that moment i don't have:
- Recovery mode
- Download mode
- Fastboot mode
The phone is in a boot loop though. It flashes the LG logo on and off. The phone isn't being detected by the computer.
I hope someone can help me.
Kind regards.

This is not to dampen your spirit but if it is not detected by computer then it is very hard to get it back to life. But I guess it is not detecting by computer because it is not fully loading(at least some of the necessary files loading). If you aren't able to get into download mode or fastboot mode, I guess you may try the method explained in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142
Hope your device get back to normal following that thread, you need Ubuntu for that method to try, but that's(installing ubuntu) not a difficult.
Thank you for your answer. Onfurtantely that is not helping because for that manual the mobile needs to be detected by the computer.

Then I suggest you to completely switch off the phone(I hope you already done that) & leave it for some time and then try it after some time. Did you use the proper stock recovery when going from TWRP to stock recovery(I mean the recovery that is intended for your phone model)?. What I think is that as long as it is seeing some sort of life(it is going as far as LG Logo), there is a hope that it can be recovered. I think some thing is messed up in recovery or boot or one of those partitions that are checked during the boot.
You need to first download the kdz and lg flash utility with drivers.
Install drivers
The factory reset deleting system, cache, internal sd.
Then shutdown your g2.
Start to downloaded mode connecting your g2
Flash kdz & voila... Done
I too bricked my phone before. My flashing stuck at 49%. Recovered using above method, all is well now
This works 1000%. I bet on it. Just remember to wipe the phone completely before flashing. You will return to stock with unrooted status in download mode. U will have your warranty back too

Hello everyone,
So ive been lurking on these forums for some time now looking for a solution for the mess I just created, but its been so long now that I want to ask if anyone can help me out now.
The situation is I bought a LG G2 AT&T, and then proceeded to root, recovery and everything was flawless, but I tried to install another ROM and this is went everything went to hell (Im from Mexico). It went all black and with the "Fastboot mode activated" and stuff so I went an put it on download mode and tried by all possible ways, the LG Flash Tool and the LG Flash tool 2014, both ways do not seem to bring back my phone to life.
Whenever I try to install it like this, I get this error with the D800AT FW. I get this error.
And whenever I try to install with D802 FW. I get this one as well.
When I try with the Lg Flash Tool 2014 method. I cant get it to 100%, I always get stuck on 99% And then it crashes.
I am really running out of options here, the phone is recognized by the PC, but I cant get to install a normal working stock ROM.
Any pointers, or help, would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
EDIT:
Apparently, I cant post images just yet to show you the exact error. But for the first 2 errors, I get something like this.
"DOWNLOAD FAIL! Check phone or DLL" both for D800 and D802
If you have twrp as your recovery you can adb sideload a rom onto your device from your computer. Google how to sideload adb with trwp installed and follow the instructions. If your phone is recognized it should be fine.

First of all, thank you for your response.
Now, it is still recognized, but I tried to flash it with some DLL a guy provided on this one thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2663369) and it didnt complete, it just froze on 94% and now I cant get to Download mode.
I saw about the adb sideload, but I cant seem to access to Recovery now. Tried to, but all I get is some kind of bootloop just showing the LG and android with the open belly and then back to LG.

So the three finger method only gets you the android with the belly up? Is your phone still recognized? I'm on Verizon but i think with other phones it's the same process. If you have no recovery you need to tot back to stock. I've only done it once but it did work. This is what i used to fix my problem when adb didn't work. Lots to read but it does work and people will answer if you have a problem http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2797190.. Good luck man.

Hi guys,
I have LG G2 d800. try to restore back to jelly bean, and rooted the phone. meanwhile took the KK update and the problem starts from there. I read the forums about not taking the update once rooted. But I was too late for that. I read most the forums to fix but haven't found my problem fix.
here is the problem lies
I am on Cyanogen recovery on the screen. wipe out everything from the phone. even the cache partition.
My computer don't read the phone. adb is not working. tried to see the list of device on adb but shows unauthorized device.
only thing work sideload on adb. tried to install twrp recovery zip file or rom zip file. stuck on 47% . then it shows error.
I see there is a fix through twrp recovery. but my adb is not working. tried different drivers but wont give me dice.
any help on this highly appreciated. or you can guide me for that.
thanks in advance.
Here's what I did:
I grabbed SRKTool and nuked my download mode. Then when attempting to enter download mode I was instead kicked into fastboot. From there I flashed stock partition images, rebooted into download mode, and then was able to flash a stock kdz/tot with the LG software.
All data lost, but phone was unbricked. All of this software was run inside a virtual machine on a Linux or OSX box as well.

I believe in SRK Tool you can nuke download mode two ways. One of which is while in download mode itself. Try entering download mode and selecting the proper option. Sometimes an unplug/replug is needed to get the phone recognized.
I did try. My phone is on Cyanogen screen. Try to plug and unplug but nothing happens. Tried SDK tool and tried to side load cm12 Rom but gets error after 47%. Don't know what to do.
In SRK tool after choosing options it stays on waiting for device. Nothing happen
s after that. Even plug n unplug.
Reboot into download mode. I believe you can also do it via adb with SRK Tool, but that is not what I did. There are two ways to build your download mode with SRK Tool. One of them is used when you are connected via download mode. That is the path I took.

I believe my phone is not talking adb commands via computer. I have read here in some forum, your phone has to be on debugging. but in that case I my phone doesn't go beyond CYANOGEN RECOVERY.
Thanks for reply. If you have any other suggestion please let me know.
If you reboot into download mode you will bypass the debugging need.

Do you mean TWRP recovery? Make sure you are not pressing the power button when you are hold the up volume button ....... It should go immediately to download mode when you connect it via usb if your download mode isnt nuked ........ then u can flash back to stock using TOT method.
