Navigation bar not working - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there, it looks like my bottom part of my nexus 4 touch is dead which makes the navigation bar unresponsive, however i was able to make it work with the help of xposed framework by increasing the height of navbar.
My question is can't i make modification in the rom itself and flash it and make it a parmanent fix so that everytime i factory reset rom i dont have to use xposed framework? Because uninstalling the gravitybox app reverts the changes i made to navbar. If this is possible please let me know the procedure for the same.
Thanks

You could install a ROM that has this option incorporated in it, like Chroma, for example. There are more such ROMs in the development section.

Well, another solution would be to decompile framework-res.apk and change the DPI from there. But, as I don't know much about coding, I can't really help you with this...

I just posted this question.

You mean the Nav Bar at the bottom of the screen?
Multiple ways. Fors starters some othe rcustom AOSP roms that are similar to CM have it as an option.
If you want to keep CM, install the XPosed Frameswork and then get the Gravity Box module. It will let you add the Nav Bar, and customize it.

[p700] Lockscreen Widgets in PA 4.4-BETA

Hey guys.
Using the great ROMS from this site for a while for all of my devices.
I have installed PA 4.x a while ago (2-3 weeks) from this Thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2674626) and am very happy with it. But I can't enable lockscreen widgets. I searched the whole Forum and clicked any button and do not know what is wrong. Aren't there any lockscreen widgets on PA? Also in "Security" where an option like this should be there is only a greyed out option "Maximize Widgets".
I would ask in the thread, but have not enough posts. Yet, I hope tehre is somebody who can help me.
Thank you.

That's a feature that was imported to CyanogenMod ( which i was using till today, and now im on Paranoid ), but PA isnt focusing on small things like that, than on more performance, smoothness... As you can see CyanogenMod 11 for L7 is 200MB and PA is only 140MB, those are the missing things
But you can still do it using Xposed Framework Modules.
Xposed will let you edit the things as you like using Modules which you can download directly from the application.
Download Xposed from here: http://repo.xposed.info/module/de.robv.android.xposed.installer
Here is a video how to install it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75y8fuAUxQI
And when you finish download GravityBox, enable it and Reboot the phone. ( It's also shown in the video for GravityBox).
GravityBox is a module for Xposed and you can use it to make a lot of things like change statubar color, icons, notfication bar, , transparency, lock screen settings... JUST DON'T EDIT THE BATTERY ICON LET IT STOCK ONE BECAUSE IT CONFLICTS WITH THE ROM !
You should play a little with it, and discover how it works
Also search Xposed for other module BUT DO NOT COMBINE ANY OTHER WITH SIMILAR FEATURES LIKE GRAVITYBOX, download modules for other things NOT FOR THEMING THE PHONE !
Here are some i use:
CpuTemp In Status Bar
Boot Manager
Smart Booster
Search for them in xposed you have search under Modules
Hope i helped you.

How is defendant on what ROM you are running and depending on the ROM it will then depend on if you are running Dalvik or ART. If you are on a TW ROM and are not concerned with running ART you can use Xposed with the Gravity box module that has the option to customize the navigation bar. If you are using an AOKP or CM11 ROM you can also use Xposed with Gravity box module but the ROM itself may have an option in settings/personalization to customize the navigation bar. Hope this leads you in the right direction

how did you manage to get navigation bar on the ROM in the first place? With official stock 4.4.2 ROM you may still be able to use xposed installer im not quite sure again how did you get nav buttons in the first place?
Xposed with immersive mode. App settings module allows you to set full screen in chosen apps.

Is there a way to change 3G/H/4G to stock Android

I don't like this big text Motorola uses, is it possible to change how they look to how stock android is? I couldn't find anything on xposed modules
You tried Gravitybox? It's been a while since I used xposed.
I know theming works and replaces those (you do mean in the status bar right?) Try flashing a ROM with Layers like cyanogenmod. Different themes will use different icons.
Yeah i fixed it by using a xposed module for moto devices

I'm new to OP. Any guidance on Substratum?

I've just come from Dirty Unicorns and Pure Nexus on a 6P, and I've loved substratum for theming my phone. But... OOS would be legacy, I understand. Has anyone tried Subs on OP5, any recommendations? I've also seen a Magisk module for making legacy systemless. Anyone tried it? I don't feel like boot looping my new phone!
Also if I'm just rooted, can I install themes like swift black?
Don't use Substratum on OOS, rooted or not, I tried it and ended up having to restore the backup I'd made after it caused all sorts of complications, my advice? Wait for the custom roms to start appearing.

Thank you for saving me all sorts of trouble.
I tried "Navigate" to configure the navbar. Works without issues. But i wouldn't apply system wide themes. Like @djsubterrain said.
With root you can apply themes system wide that support OOS (I think only swift dark and black right now)
I did and it's working fine, full black apps and system.
If you're paranoid then you can just theme apps and use built in themer to make system black or white.
Does anyone tried ozone substratum?
im rooted and with sustratum working fine, im using swift black and inversion themes.

Yeah... I was always able to theme via substratum on all of my rooted devices, including oneplus 3 on stock.
The thing is, you generally, (lie 99% of the time) should not theme system ui or android system as that almost always results in a bootloop.
This is with the exclusion of themes specifically designed for oxygen os like k clock and swift dark
Sent from my Moto Z Play using XDA Labs
So I just need to be on stock rooted OP 5 with Subtranium installed to use Swift Dark on system ui?

Yes, that will do, I'm running that too. There is an option to enable OxygenOS 4 compatibility right under the logo. That will make sure that you have a compatible (a.k.a. none) SystemUI overlay

Great thanks. My OP 5 is being delivered today so I'm doing some research on I'm going to load on it. I saw that FreedomOS has Substratum Legacy support but I'd like to try the stock rom first.

I'm running it right now, but i'm using it just for centered clock and to change the "4G" to "LTE" in the status bar.
No issues on my side so far.
Currently running OOS 4.5.1 with magisk v13 beta (96f8efc)

I use it for centered clock, QS Tiles 4 icons and Clear All (tasks) button on the left.
No problem so far.
I'm using Valerie as the main theme, and Big Blu to fill in things that Valerie doesn't do.
Also, Ozone for center clock and QS 5.
Fontio works with a .ttf file (or choose one of the provided fonts) if you use the flashable zip option - in the settings there's a place to create a restore zip, so do that first in case. Both files will be put on your internal memory in a Fontio folder.
edit: I forgot that the power menu doesn't work with this setup, so I made my own with Tasker/GMD.

I can't even see any difference when you theme the system lol so I don't even think it's necessary

Stock has the same substratum support as freedom Os... It's the legacy layers theming, so if you root stock, it will work the same way. Just install the substratum app from the store and try out. ?
fully working here, rooted with magisk and substratum is ok with theming everything, but yeah, like above, power menu doesn't work and if pressed it soft reboot phone... resolved installing material power menu
