Xposed seems to have broke my WiFi Hotspot - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am running Lollipop Extreme v1.1 ROM for my VS980. I got it all set up nice and I noticed the hotspot was no longer working. I wasn't sure what actually broke it so I did a factory reset and installed and did a backup one at a time for anything I thought might break it. I ruled out the Dorminax kernel. Once I install the xposed zip my hotspot no longer works. It won't turn on, I don't even see the "please wait" message pop up on my screen. It is worth noting though that xposed does work correctly..just no hotspot. I am not sure what else to try. Maybe a different rom?

[Q] CAN I tether my GS4 L720 MDC? Seems NOT!

I am hoping someone here will have mercy on me with my newb dilemma and give it the time for an answer.
I am a recent Galaxy S4 user- only 3 days ago (after 6+ years of jailbreaking every iPhone they've made.) So I am admittedly a bit new to all of this...
My S4 is a on a Sprint carrier, L720...MDC
Day 1: I rooted it, successfully (using Odin and CF-Auto-Root-jfltespr-jfltespr-sphl720.tar)
Later that day I flashed it with TWRP with a Wifi-tether workaround I got from downloadandroidrom.com. Everything I used was quite specifically for my model phone, carrier, modexed, etc... Still, after flashing I ended up in a start-up loop. (would hang at the startup Samsung logo)
Day 2: Things became difficult at this point since I had no more internet access. I needed to go research this at a friends and downloaded the STOCK rom in order to recover. After flashing the Rom I was back in biz! Yay!
...Or so I thought- Seems NOW I have no option in my settings panel for Wifi tether "Hotspot" AT ALL. It is no longer there! How can this be? I have tried flashing to stock and re-rooting, etc a bunch of different things but I cannot get it back. It WAS there because I tried it day one, before rooting, just to see what it would do. It clearly had "Hotspot" with a toggle between the WiFi and Bluetooth toggles.
I tried every app I could find (FoxFi, Easy Tether, etc...) but the phone warns me that "Hotspot not supported"
Day 3: I asked around and browsed all the developer sites for info but could find no answers.
At the end of the day I tried CWM's "Tether" app. THIS WORKED!
So my questions:
ARE there any ROMs I can flash this particular phone with? I can't seem to find ANY that specifically mention my firmware etc... (except the stock)
IS that even important? Can I flash it with Wicked, for instance?
What would YOU try in order to gain a hotspot? (untethered)
Thanks for ANY help or advice you can offer!
Yes you can tether.
Yes you can tether with MDC.
Yes you can tether with just a rooted stock ROM.
Yes there are ROMs that have tethering built in.
First thing you might want to do is spend some time going through the stickies and how-tos. They are very helpful.
Then maybe getting your phone to the latest firmware - MF9 (there are a few stickies and posts about that).
I use crawrj's hotspot mod on my phone (MF9) without issue.
Maybe just try a rooted stock MF9 and then add the hotspot and then go from there.
On the stock ROM, the wifi tether hotspot option will show up only after you allow sprint customization to run. If you installed the stock ROM, and skipped the sprint customization, the wifi tether option won't show up.
Once you get the wifi tether option, you can go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2256950 to download the appropriate version (MDC/MDL/MF9 - odexed/deodexed) to flash in custom recovery - that will give you the hotspot mod.
If you want to go to stock MF9 (latest version for the Sprint S4), go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277480
Thanks!

I may be asking this prematurely since I am going to read up more on this per your advice, but I am curious about how I was supposed to "allow the customization to run."
I used the Odin installer and it just went through a loading process, more-or-less on it's own. I have reloaded the stock ROM a few times now and I saw no prompts for anything, though I had the Auto-restart option checked so it just restarted and I went from there. Should I not have had the auto restart on? At what point do I allow this customization?
TIA
PS. I was thinking a bit more about it and are you possibly talking about the "updating" to applications that occurs at first startup? 160-something updates as I recall in a blue modal dialog... This happens even after just TWRKing the hotspot zip though, so I am not sure it could be that- but if so, I have never interrupted that. I would be afraid to!
I'm having the same issue as OP, and like him, I don't exactly understand what everyone is saying by the "Sprint customization".. I've flashed multiple times but I never get any prompt from Sprint or anything, just the standard setup for my Google account.
I've tried searching all over about this, but there doesn't seem to be that much on this unfortunately...

Correct a mundo on that. DONT stop that.
I have no idea what the 'sprint custmization' thingy he's talking about. May just the 'updating applications' but I don't know.
If you clear the dalvik cache, which the updater script for the hotspot mod does, or do it manually, you will always see that 'updating applications...' that is the system building the dalvik.

Our issue isn't getting crawrj's mod to work, it's that there is literally no "Hotspot" button in our settings menu. I'm using Sac's custom ROM right now and the selection is missing for me as well. I had it for my old MF9 stock version, so I have no idea where it went...
From the few people who've had this same issue, it's what jj14 said about needing to let Sprint run their "customization", but I'm never being prompted by Sprint to let anything install on my phone after various resets, so I'm quite lost...
Such a frustrating roadblock, got the mod and everything, just literally can't "turn it on". Because, well... The button. Isn't there. :/
None of the standard apps i used on the GN2 work either.

Much of that issue discussed in crawj's thread and in a few others.
Though I don't have hotspot in my dropdown/menu/status bar I DO have it in the System Settings>Connections>Hotspot.
All I have to do is turn it on and it works (and of course I can then adjust any settings.).
I did try some of the things suggested (like adjusting stuff in the dbase(s) tables) in the follow-up posts to get it to show in the drop down, but never got that. Again just a VERY minor thing for me. As long as I can actually USE the tether/hotspot I'm good.

All right sport, don't know what else to tell. Have fun with that.

Sorry about the delay in responding - was out of town.
When you flash the stock ROM, after the reboot, the phone does one update from Sprint. I'm told that this is the one that loads Sprint's bloat (sprint zone, sprint ID etc), along with the activation, and it is during this update, that the hotspot feature is made available on the phone.
(and I'm not referring to the Updating applications" message - that is just the android OS rebuilding the cache.
On a related note, I found this link - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44779759 - you can try this out to see if this helps.

I'm pretty sure that Sprint's customization process doesn't run on most custom ROMs - the hotspot feature should be built into the custom ROM directly - if it is missing, you may want to reach out the developer and ask for suggestions/workarounds.

2 problems I have

First of all I would like to state that I am running echo-rom, I would like to have posted in there but the thread is closed.
My first problem is that the expandable volume menu does not work, this happened to me before with other roms (all on TW) but I couldn't be bothered until now. Whenever I click the gear icon which should expand, it doesn't work. It works before (until I do something?). Anyway I flashed the rom yesterday and didn't bother configuring/customizing it until today. I will try to describe anything I did until the point I noticed it broke again.
I enabled xposed framework, with the modules: wanam xposed, enable battery stats for kitkat, gravitybox, app-settings and xposed torch.
I tweaked some stuff in wanam xposed and in the echo customization center.
Anyway I don't really know what caused it, if no one knows why I will try to pay attention next time when it happens.
The second problem is that whenever I try to swipe down to open my notification bar it doesn't want to work half the time. On my home screen the statusbar turns black (instead of transparent), so there is some sort of registration of touch? I proceed to let go of my finger and and then try again. I also thought that I could have misplaced my finger but I don't know why the statusbar would turn black then.
If anyone knows or has encountered this problem before please share,
much appreciated.
I dunno know but i tried exposed once with a slimrom and it messed my phone up really bad upto the point everything was force crashing. To me i think exposed is your problem. Try wiping data, cache, dalvik, and format system and boot with cwm recovery then flash official firmware for you phone. DO NOT USE 4.3 FIRMWARE IF YOUR ON A 4.4 ROM!! Look for 4.4 rom instead. Sammobile good site but need registraion and slow download for free users (about 1hour) after that try instakking. Your fav rom without xposed. Im 80% sure it will work
So I fixed it, I disabled both gravitybox and wanam xposed and after the reboot volume expand worked again, then I enabled wanam xposed again and it still worked. Either way gravitybox caused it, or it was caused by a conflict between the two.
Also the statusbar problem, my rom has an option where you double-tap the battery icon to change the style of it, I noticed by trying to swipe down from the battery icon it doesnt work. So there you have it. Problem solved
The reason is really simple. You don't read before you install the modules.
You can't use Gravitybox on a TW based rom. It's states that in the description. Gravitybox is for aosp only!
Same applies for the post from 189cutter. Wanam Xposed is only for TW based roms. Slimrom is clearly no TW based rom.
So if you want to use the modules, read if they are for your rom. Also make sure that there is no overlapping in functions, because that could cause strange problems as well.
Point taken but im never ever ever gonna use xpose or such things like it lol now im using cm m9 and its perfect lol

WiFi Bluetooth not working after Xposed Update

Hi guys,
I've been stuck with this problem for a month. PLEASE HELP otherwise I have to get rid of the phone...:crying:
I was on IMPERIUM 10 with XPOSED Framework active. One day it asked for an update of one of the standard module (I cant remember which one). After the process completed, I wasnt able anymore to use Wifi and BT. Even after reverting the module to the previous version or disabling XPOSED. Sometimes I could use WiFi and BT after a reset for a while, but again they turned off.
I've tried to reinstall IMPERIUM with full wipe, other SAMSUNG ROMs with XPOSED and CM11 (w/o XPOSED) but nothing. Besides, I've tried several modems (with ODIN) and NO SUCCESS as well.
Do you have any suggestion PLEASE?

[Q] "Dream Manager Service" keeps waking the screen up, how do I disable it?

[Q] "Dream Manager Service" keeps waking the screen up, how do I disable it?
I've looked for other posts on this issue, but none helped me very much. I have a Samsung S5 (international, sim-free), I recently flashed Phoenix Rom, version 6.3, build BOC7. Was on Omega Rom BOB7 previously. I'm also on BOB7 bootloader and modem. Don't know if it's relevant, but I'll mention it anyway. I don't have a PC, so it's difficult for me to use Odin, it's something I have to arrange days in advance. That's why I haven't updated bootloader or modem to BOC7 yet. And before anyone tells me to just go back to Omega Rom, Phoenix Rom is my absolute favourite Rom, it was my daily driver on KitKat, and I just discovered today that it had been updated to Lollipop, so I flashed it immediately.
Using Wakelock Detector immediately after booting, I find Android System, specifically "Dream Manager Service" the only thing which has woken the screen. So that seems to be the culprit, but I don't know how to kill it. It was never an issue before. Basic Daydreams (a Samsung process) is frozen via Titanium Backup. I don't use any other sort of daydream app or service.
It is clearly an issue with Phoenix Rom, but it didn't start until a few hours after I'd flashed it. So in the meantime something has happened, but I don't know what, and before I go through the hassle of reflashing it, I'd like to see how I could disable it. Things I've tried:
- Turning off ambient display - was not on when the problem started, I've tried turning it on and off, but doesn't help. I don't use it or want it, so I don't mind killing it somehow.
- Booting into safe mode. This helped, the problem did not appear when in safe mode. As far as I know though, it just doesn't allow "Dream Manager Service" to run. Not so helpful for finding out how to disable it.
- Revoking permission to "keep screen on" in App Ops for Android System. It seems to just ignore this, which seems to make the whole permission management thing a bit pointless.
When the screen does turn on, it looks different. The wallpaper is not displayed, and it's all in black and white.
Does anyone know why "Dream Manager Service" is doing this? And more importantly, how I can stop it? If you need any more information from me, just ask.
EDIT: Found reason: Ambient Display in Phoenix v6.3 was causing this bug, even after I turned it off. Downgraded back to 6.0, will skip 6.3 and wait for fix, hope it will be an option in the Aroma Installer next time.
Thank you! I found this information useful 2 years later in my Galaxy S7 running Ambasadii Nougat 7.0.

Camera not working after root/xposed

I have an XT1644. I rooted it and installed Xposed about a week ago. Out of nowhere, today the camera no longer works. I have not installed any new apps or done anything else to the phone. When I open up the camera, the image is all black and the onscreen buttons are not responsive. I have to wait a bit and then it says "camera error camera must be restarted". I have rebooted into safemode and factory reset and the problem persists. Anybody have any idea whats going on?

I flashed stock and that fixed it, but then I again rooted and the problem returned. If I boot into "factory mode" the camera works. On safe mode it doesn't, so I'm guessing it's not a hardware problem.
i had this problem yesterday.
Rooted no problems, Installed Xposed stable version, and then out of the blue after 1 day my camera wasn't working.
Even after i disabled the modules it still was not working.
I had to restore a backup i made the night before....

I fixed it by flashing the newest stock firmware. The old stock firmware was not only messing up the camera, but other things as well. Ever since I did that, I've had 0 problems. Rooted and Xposed have been working just fine for weeks. Give it a shot.
roygbiv859, where do you get the "latest firmware" and how to flash it?
I am hitting this problem and my phone says software is already up to date. Same thing as you guys -- camera and flashlight only work in factory mode.
I have Xposed and root as well, but I remember things used to be working all together.
I noticed that in "factory mode" cellular network does not work, and battery never charges, otherwise I do not really mind running in that mode.
I saw a version number "MPJ24.139-48" at bottom of status page, is that the firmware number? Looks like I am already on the latest.
