Hi,
So I've been fiddling with trying to get a custom boot animation to work for a while now, but to no avail. I've backed up the original bootsamsung.qmg, bootsamsungloop.qmg and shutdown.qmg, and pasted the new ones into /system/media. I changed the permissions to rw-r--r-- as per the instructions. However, initially nothing worked except the poweron.ogg sound. I then put shutdown.qmg in /system/media/video/shutdown after I noticed that folder, and now the shutdown animations works but not the boot animation. Is it just a matter of finding where the boot files need to go?
Thanks for any insight,
James.
EDIT- never mind, I solved it myself. I managed to find and flash a stock BTU ROM (unlocked, carrier-free) to my phone, and then I re-rooted and copied over the qmg files, and it just worked. I'm pretty sure now that it was because of my carrier's firmware, which had the appropriate boot/shutdown animations stored elsewhere on the phone instead of /system/media.
SO, if anyone else has this issue and is on a carrier-specific firmware, download the unlocked firmware appropriate to your region from the official Samsung website, and flash it using Odin.

The boot screen in Oxygen is contained within the framework-res.apk file, so to properly replace it requires updating the files in there.
However..I recreated the stock bootanimation as a bootanimation.zip file that can be placed in /data/local. I can upload a flashable zip this evening.
here you go:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13245387/bootanimation.zip
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13245387/downanimation.zip
It depends on your ROM where to put it, but for mine, it was /system/customize/resource/
Edit: these are not flashable zips
Just rename the bootscreen animation to 'name.bak' and the stock will b shown.
I try to install custom boot animation and now my boot screen is just a black screen. Mine is sm n900 5.0 Russia firmware. Is there anywhere I can get my original boot animation back or how can I install a custom boot animation. Please help me out.

So it's a zip or qmg file?. If zip then your original boot animation still there. Try to delete the zip in system/media. It it's qmg you need to extract it from firmware or other rom and replace it.
I think for lollipop if you were to use bootanimation.zip you need to use a modified bootanimation in system/bin else it won't work. This bootanimation in system/bin controls bootanimation.zip in system/media

Your phone is n900s or n900?. You don't need a safetrap or twrp to install a custom bootanimation. Nevertheless since your phone doesn't has custom recovery I would suggest not to play with system file as it could bootloop your phone. The idea is to have a nandroid backup before messing the system files so that you could undo the changes in case it go wrong.
I already backup. I want to install the Marvel VS DC boot animation. I want the qmg version, but i can't find it anywhere. And is SM-N900
What was you trying to install earlier?. A bootanimation.zip ot bootanimation.qmg?. You can try your luck with bootanimation.zip but as i said earlier you MIGHT need to replace bootanimation in system/bin to make bootanimation.zip to work due to memory leak issue. I have it for n9005, extracted from audax rom. Not sure if it will work on 900
Hello guys, I need help trying to get my boot animation that I downloaded to work. I rooted my device with kingroot and it works perfectly that my device is rooted correctly. I used the root browser and boot animations app by Jrummy or something like that then I grabbed a watchdogs bootanimation on the net named bootanimation.zip, it is has two parts and has the resolution of my s4 at&t i337. I installed the zip to data/local (didn't work) I checked the permission status and made sure they read rw-r-r. Then I installed it to system/media and that still didn't work. I realized that the boot animations were not being overwritten so I tried to rename the boot animation.zip to bootsamsung.qmg to replace the stock manafactuar boot animation and no luck. I searched everywhere on the Internet for a answer and they provided the same one that didn't work. If you guys want screenshots or the zip I can try to post it. But I would appreciate some help ASAP.
Have you tried deleting the original boot animation zip, leaving only the custom one?
This should not cause any serious problems.
The worst thing that can happen is that you will have a black screen (because the boot animation was deleted) during the boot process.
Stock firmware doesn't support .zip bootanimation. You need to convert manually the bootanimation into .qmg.
Sent from my ASUS_Z00A using XDA Labs
The full phone model is Samsung Galaxy A300FU
I tried changing the boot animation. I failed. I managed to fix it, only to mess it up even more by following a guide here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2032019) that said to rename bootanimation as samsungani and delete samsungani. I, for some dumbass reason, didn't backup them. I don't know if just restoring the stock ones will fix the bootloop (as I tried flashing http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2063280 (the sani-only version) and another one (it had a disabler and an enabler, but sadly I have no link). Does anyone have those 2 files?

Code:
fastboot flash logo logo.bin
fastboot reboot

Deletion of original due to corruption
EDIT ----- Caution this upload may have been corrupted, use the one two posts on (#8)
This is the one I was looking for. But it fails in twrp wile flashing.

@felixtaf ... Can't understand that because I installed it on my A2017U before posting. Which leads me to say that when I uploaded it to XDA it came up with a strange comment in red in the post (you've probably seen it -- Attachment 4136033) which I have never seen before. I can only suggest that the upload was corrupted so I have added another to this post.
Without wishing to teach you how to suck eggs can I just state the following ..... After downloading, transfer it to your ext sd card, in TWRP go to "Install" and chose the file, let TWRP do it's thing. I don't suggest you don't know what you are doing it's just so strange that it doesn't work.
Yes, this works fine. Thanks
Jus flashed it via twrp and all fine ...
The one I posted before was not a TWRP flashable file, you need to place it in system/media and replace the bootanimation.zip file there (and set the 0644 permission)
