Well don't have the display drivers for our device. Until we can get a proper kernel source, we can neither build a proper twrp nor a cwm.
Sent from my E7
you are right Ravi, but I have one doubt, how come other Chinese CWM recovery works on our phone? If Gionee haven't provided proper sources, how is a working CWM available for our device, even though it's in Chinese. That shows someone might have proper sources, and we can probably get it from them. Just a thought.
Hope Gionee releases KitKat upgrade soon, along with proper kernel sources for it, searching for devs only won't help them gain any likings from devs!

You see, from snapdragon 800 onwards, you need an extra file called dt.img while building the boot image. Its a device tree contains all the data as to where the addresses and ports are. Now this is device and kernel specific. And we don't have it.
Simply put, even if I take the Chinese recovery, unpack it and repack it without changing anything, it won't boot.

Now thats really sad. However in the facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/gionee/
See my thread, a guy says he has installed english version of recovery (CTR). I am however skeptical about it.
Another thing, the SuperUser app got disappeared in my E7. Rootchecker still shows that root is present.
It has now Vroot app. has it replaced superuser app or is it different?

Yup! It recognizes the display as "toshiba 720p video display" and makes a framebuffer for the resolution. while it should recognise it as "jdi 1080p cmd mode display". That causes the issue.

Just sayin.

I'll also test.

Best thing might be having this moved to general until a build is out. Then we could troubleshoot/go over build errors on record for the benefit of all. I was going to just put out the PAC builds, but we could do it together (in general) as it tends to be one of the easier ones to start with.
It building now it's just kernel issues. And alrighty I'm sorry for that >. <

You dont want to change the boardconfig. You're gonna want the klte kernel folder in there where its supposed to be
Post your roomservice.xml from .repo/local_manifests. You prob just need to sync a klte kernel repo to your tree
Aside from a few build errors(overlay/base package stuff) you should be able to essentially sync and build once your roomservice is figured out. It's not yet a supported device so its not gonna write it for you, thats what youre running into

Edit: or if thats too much of a wait. Just make one up based off the cm.dependencies file in garwynn's klte repo(github), check that out and make up a local_manifest/roomservice.xml those folders, that tells you exactly what you need.

Take your time bro, eagerly waiting for it! And let me be your tester if you want any
Good luck and take your time

Yeah I guess so
TESTING HAS BEEN CLOSED FOR THE TIME BEING. WE HAVE EVERYONE WE NEED CURRENTLY. WHEN THE TIME COMES THAT WE NEED MORE, WE WILL LET YOU KNOW.
This thread will be used to notify the members of XDA as to our current progress. Once an official release is ready, this will be converted to a Q&A thread. Currently we are working out some kernel issues and will let you know where that leads us. This will also be where we look for testers as we expand to other variants of the G3.
UPDATE: Currently our team is looking for a name. Since it was formed from random community members, we have decided to come back to the community to ask for suggestions as to what we should name the team. I would also like to state that we are currently testing a kernel that may get the M Preview booting. So wish us luck.

Yeah, really it doesn't need to be changed to the new format, but it would need a whole new updater-script, which I am not as familiar with as I would like to be due to time constraints and other priorities. So if @timmytim or @autoprime could take a look and help me out (if it's not too much trouble, of course) that would be awesome.)

If you are an up and coming developer (I am assuming) then Github or the best place to start would be from lineage os website and their guide "how to build for your device".
And ofc you would need all possible help from our lead device developers like Shivam Kumar Jha and Sagar for the device trees, kernel source codes and what not!! I have no clue.
The base is already compiled from AOSP by the respective main contributors rather head developers. You have to take the source code and tweak it/compile it (ofc not easy) for our device.
You asked the question to explain android customisation in general!!! Well, if you don't know that, then unless you are on NZT-48 or a really genius programmer, I doubt you can do it. (Also great if you prove me wrong here). Don't mean to discourage you.
Wouldn't we do it all for ourselves??!!!!!
For Android customization - the basics would be to root and go tweaking, fiddling and modding around on the stock rom first. Lots of amazing stuff already. (Why to reinvent the wheel!)
Then depends on your requirements.
Good luck.

Good stuff!!
Attaboy:good:
I am trying the same thing myself using the lineageOS 15.1 branch.
I am using the directions provided in the lineageOS Wiki for the X00TD device (can't post a link because i am a newbie).
The instructions are clear enough but I am having specific problems with the brunch command - specific errors come up for missing files.
Is this the right place to start posting specific technical questions?
