Is "double tap to wake" possible on S3 Neo? - Galaxy S3 Neo Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Some users have asked for "double tap to wake" functionality on the S3 Neo. Is it at all possible (hardware-wise)? I know some devices do not have a separate control over the touch power signal, meaning that the touch device is down as soon as the phone goes to sleep - in which case, "double tap to wake" can't work because the touch is not functioning at all during the sleep.

I think its not possible for us. But may be i am wrong. One can get it for us but it will be definitely a battery drain monster.

I don't know about battery, but it can be optional of course. The question is, whether or not this is possible in the first place. If the hardware does not support it, like I mentioned in the question, then no software / kernel can make it work...

[REQ] Device Lock

Hi,
I'm looking for device lock application, but with one specific feature. I have very close-fitting case and touchscreen is always pressed by it. So one day I found my Diamond's battery completely drained - I discovered that device couldn't stand by because touchscreen was still active.
What I'm looking for is lock application which turns touchscreen off completely so unlocking will be possible only with keys. S2U2 (which I use now) has no such feature, TouchLockPro works unstable when I try to unlock with capacity sensors.
Thanks for any suggestions,

Thanks Lycox,
Unfortunately it doesn't lock my device. With feedback enabled it vibrates twice after power on, but PDA is unlocked.
I know S2U2 and PocketShield can turn power off after some inactivity time, but there are applications as SKSchema bypassing lock and you could have important reminders dismissed accidentally.
So - is there "everything locking" application, maybe without beautiful interface, but 100% preventing random calls/dismiss/power on?

Did you try to disable the capacitive sensors in TouchLockPro Because there are enough other means for unlocking in TouchLockPro.....

Display on without using top button?

I have my Nexus One set to turn off the display and go into lock mode after 10 minutes. I would prefer 5 minutes, but that is not an option. I have owned the phone for about a month, and absolutely love it, but I have noticed that the top button (which I press to turn the display on) is no longer working as well as it use to. I have to press down on the top button fairly hard to get the display turned back on. I am guessing the wear and tear of pressing the top button dozens of times each day is slowly causing the top button to fail. Is there a way to set the Nexus One display to turn on by pressing something other than the top button on the phone? Perhaps press the volume button, or press the screen to get the display to turn on, instead of the top button?

There's a fix for this.
hopefully there is nothing physically wrong with your phone.
If you have a custom rom and if it is slow it may make it seem like you have a physical problem with the button.
I've just started having this power button issue... Hard reset made no difference so I'm thinking it might be hardware related which is a shame.
HTC says return the phone for repair (had it for 3 weeks) and within the same breath without any prompting said, "And in case you're wondering you won't get a courtesy phone".
Bofslime, are you suggesting there's a specific fix or merely to ring HTC?
The top button still works, it just takes a little bit more effort to get it working. I gotta press down a little harder than I use to.
I am quite dependent on this phone, and have ABSOLUTELY no interest in shipping it back to HTC or google so they can spend weeks fixing a minor issue.
I am really looking for a way to turn on the display without having to press the top button.

Sorry, in case it wasn't clear, I've had my Nexus One for three weeks (so over the 14 day replace period I'm guessing). HTC actually said it would take about 6 days to get it back to me. Which isn't bad really.

Yes, the phone needs to be repaired/replaced.
I had my phone advanced replaced without question or hassle because of dust other the screen. Sold my G1 2 day's before receiving my N1, its not the end of the world to fall back to a backup phone. My sidekick was happy to serve me again for the interim.
Ah ha!
I have found a couple of applications which will allow you to wake-up your Nexus One display using a button other than the power-on button:

Weird touchscreen issue..

Hey guys, Im having this weird problem. I don't know if its software or hardware related.
I SOMETIMES loose touch functionality when I lock the screen using the "end" key.
What happens is, When I press the end key to wake it from sleep, the touch screen is not functioning. So I have to press the end key again to lock it and wake it up again to see if it works. Its a hit or miss. Sometimes I get it back sometimes I dont. I tried Resetting, Soft and Hard. Wiped the SD too.
This also happens in WM too. Any one know whats going on?
any input would be appreciated.

This thread addresses that issue
if you are using advantage task killer or autokiller, don't use "kill apps when screen off" or " start on boot"...
Auto killer isn't a kill app. It just sets androids natural kill ability a little more aggressive

Thanks guys but it seems to be a Hardware issue. At one point in an HD2's life the digitizer will give out.
Seems like the only thing I can do is try to replace the digitizer myself as I do not have warranty.
Thanks guys
This is happening to me too, thought it was just my HD2...
Moved you over to general were this non dev issue belongs
This happens to me only on Android not Windows.. tmo US hd2

Same thing happened to me. This is my thread explaining it:

unfortunately it is a hardware problem and your digitizer will completely die soon.
Mine is being done under warranty but if you will do it yourself these official teardown and repack videos will provide helpful:

[Q] I'm a NEW DVP Owner! & a Paraniod Person, Some Questions.

Hi Guys, I haven't own a new phone in while so I decide to give WP7 a try. I have a few question regrading the DVP I just receive today. Built Date is 01/06/2011. I've heard theres a lot of issue w/ this phone, so I would like to know if my phone has any of it, like what are some of the known issue. First Off I have a few question.
1. When the Phone is in Close Position, The front of the phone wobble a little when pressed at the bottom. Is that normal?
2. How do I unlock the Phone so I can use it on AT&T's GSM Network.
Thats it for now...
Thanks

I don't follow the unlocking scene too closely, but I don't think it has been successfully unlocked yet. Also even if you unlock it, you won't get 3G on AT&T.
Some others report frequent lockups, particularly on the 16GB model, so keep an eye out for that. The Marketplace app tends to crash and freeze on a lot of WP7 phones, so you can probably ignore that for now.
How do you find out the build date of the phone?

Thanks a lot pjfans, as for built date, I believe it said so on the box if I'm not mistaken.
I have one more question, How do I extend the Back light time of my hardware keyboard. I fine that it turn off way to quick, I want to extend the time in which it turns off.
Thanks.

I haven't found a way to adjust the keyboard back light time out. But pressing any key lights it up again, so I usually tap the fn key if I need to turn it back on. The fn key is a press and hold key, so just tapping it once won't affect the message you are typing.
Update!
Is there a way or option to add sound to your hardware keystroke as you type. I want to add the on screen qwerty sound to my hardware keyboard when i type. Hope it makes sense.

[Q] Defy touchscreen questions

Hi! First post so sorry if its been asked before, is there any way to disable that annoying feature that makes the defy and others ignore a touch if held for so long? It makes some games unplayable (jet car stunts anyone?) Because you need to hold a button and you can't cos it ignores you after about 30secs, also is there any way I can boost touch sensitivity? I find the defy a bit shaky on recognising some touches, especially when typing, thanks for any help or infos
p.s I'm on CM7 cherry picks

When you touch and hold an area of the screen after about 30secs the touch will no longer register even though your thumb is still there. Apparantly its to stop the screen staying awake if you get water on it, I want to disable this, sorry hope it makes more sense now D:
Noone has a solution to this? I can't sprint on Nova 3 in multiplayer for long because it stops responding
then u go for the never turn off option in the display menu..screen will stay awake until u press the power button..hope it helps..defy's touch is too gud man..i nevr had any problem..

I really should explain better, thanks but that isn't what I mean, the screen will still be awake, just the touch will become "invalid" somehow if you hold the same spot too long, to demonstrate download multitouch visualiser from the market and hold 2 points, if you hold for long enough the touch disappears
I totally got your point as it happens to me too.. but occassionaly... i think its a hardware fault in the touchscreen.. like you said, it stops getting the point after 30 seconds, actually, the problem is that it starts reading your touch at another point on the screen, so you cant accelerare or sprint in jet car stunts and nova because when you tap the respective buttons, the touchscreen recognizes it as you are tapping somewhere else... i myself didnt found a solution to this problem, i just turn the phone on, wipe the screen and my fingers clean, and turn the phone on, sometimes its gone sometimes not.. and 30sec is too much.. my touch lasts for only 3-4 secs... hope we'll get the solution one day.. did you got your phone repaired? I got my touchscreen replaced few months ago but i think this problem was before too

No its an actual feature according to cyanogenmod forums to prevent "phantom input" caused by water on the screen, I dunno whether the digitizer handles this or its a driver, because if its software controlled theoretically it can be disabled

No just a fixed point or small movements, large movements is fine, its not practical to constantly move or let go during some games, and once it goes it doesn't reset instantly it goes crazy for a while, you try and press again and it "flickers" on and off if that makes sense
I've had that issue in 2.2 (Stock), CM7 and now, in CM9, as well...
A friend of mine made me aware of that (I hadn't and probably wouldn't have noticed).
I understand this happens only in Defies (not in Droids), so it shouldn't be impossible to avoid.

Actually some of the Droid series do, if you look on the webpage for jetcar stunts they've even identified it as something they can't fix with advice on how to avoid it, I think it was the Droid x. I'm desperate for a fix, hopefully this is not something in the stock kernal otherwise we need unlocked bootloader :/
