Verizon Moto X 2014 XT1096 5.1 updates - X 2014 General

I got the update notification yesterday morning (July 7th). The update went smooth, but I decided to do a factory reset anyway.
So far, the only think I think I've noticed is that talking on speaker phone is a little hard to hear on. Could have been connection as I was driving.
Otherwise, it doesn't seem much different in one day of use.

They messed with the brightness levels. Min brightness now is roughly equivalent to 30% on the old scale. It sucks.

Best part of the update in imo is chop flashlight

Agreed. I use it all the time.
I had to factory reset due to lag after flashing.

[MotoMaxx] Lollipop Soak Test Impressions

Please dont ask where to get it or if you are from soak or not we have plenty of threads asking that, just opinions please.
Hi guys, i wanted to know how do you feel this pre-release of lollipop, so far i just installed it and had no problem with it. seems smooth not a single error.
some guys says the drain battery issue was fixed, but i have to see for myself, so how is your experience so far?

Working great so far for me. Had a little bit of lag that went away as soon as I did a factory days reset. Can't comment on standby battery life since I have been pounding this thing all day. But → now I am at 41% with 4 hours and 23 minutes of screen time.
I do have an issue with Nokia's Here navigation app, but it may be that it is not lollipop compatible. Have not dug around to see if that is the case.
All in all, this is a very solid release, and I will probably stick with it. At least until custom roms start coming out for moto maxx.
Any camera improvements?

yes i've seen focus improvements
also the low speaker volume seems fixed on ringtone speaker as well in-call speaker.
I get like 2 or 3 freezes a day, phone becomes totally unresponsive for 10 seconds or so.

All devices than get lollipop is better have factory reset for good perfomance
Am i having one of them, whatchamacallit, placebo effect, or has the bluetooth streaming quality improved.?
I think my music sounds better.
Any one else?
Edit:
Bluetooth music streaming seems to drop or pause for a second every few minutes
Edit 2:
Turning bluetooth off and then back on seems to have solved the issue so far.
it take it 4% in one night in stanby
battery seems the same to me.
have some lags and some freezing too for 30 seconds -1 minute
hope Moto will solve this problems
Did you guys clean installed? Because I did, I cleared user data and cache
For those with the freezing/stuttering/lag issues, did you perform a factory data reset prior to installing the OTA?

Or Lolllipop version of Gravity Box that will soon hit, now that Xposed has been recoded for ART/Lollipop. Gravity Box dev says it's coming soon.

I did a factory data reset after installing. That took care mostly of the lag, but i keep having bluetooth issues.
Sometimes streaming music pauses on my Bluetooth music speaker, and it drops the connection on my stereo
headset. Things that do not happen with my older phones.
In all fairness, it could be because of the hybrid Brazil/Puerto Rico thing, but honestly, I don't think so as I was already having
Bluetooth issues before. Plus, everything else is working great. Signal is rock solid and I get LTE with no problems at all.
May have a defective phone.

Yes. I actually did not miss custom roms on kitkat with gravity box.
I hope they iron out the kinks soon!
Which version did they push? 5.0,.01, or .02?
.02
good so far
I haven't found any bug. I see volumen calls, screen brigthness, battery life improvement.
Everything runs smooth. Now i see the diference between my droid maxx and this.
47hrs.
some bugs i've noticed so far:
Sometimes when connected on a wifi network, disconnects and reconnects again, this didnt happen on kitkat, happens randomly
When listening to google play music and then receive a notification the music doesn't resume again, you have to click pause and play to resume to playing the song.
My impressions are great!! I did a full convert to BRZ firmware from PR Moto Maxx flashed every file, full wiped in fastboot, then did the OTA zip. So far it has been amazing, specially smoothness and battery life!!
Of course, im rooted and running Greenify, plus froze unnecessary stuff. (I dont use none of the moto stuff)
If you upgraded and having performance issue with stuttering and lags, I highly recommend performing a factory reset. I did mine through recovery and wiped Data & Cache.
That made a massive difference.
I have an wifi issue, it's not turning on at all. On 4.4 it's working fine, even on BR firmware (my phone is PR). Is Anybody met this?

When you say "flashed every file" do you mean just the system image files in the OP of the lollipop install thread or do you literally mean every file (I.e. bootloader, radio, etc)? I've been wanting to go this route of converting my PR Maxx to Brazilian retail 100% as well by flashing all the files.

XT1095 (Pure Edition) future updates

Supposedly the Pure Edition of the Moto X gets the updates earlier, and we're seeing other versions of the Moto X gets 5.0.2 and we're still in 5.0. Does anybody have some news on a new update? A soak test of 5.1 would be awesome now.
I started this thread because there's no other thread of this particular situation.
Sorry for my english.
I'm still on 4.4.4 be patient
I'm also on 5.0 isnt 5.1 already out?
I think that they are waiting for 5.1 release as it will come in March.

I hope so! Maybe we can use this thread to comment this!
I keep getting notifications about the lollipop update(I'm on 4.4.4) on my phone I got a few days ago, going to root it in the next couple of days so I can stop the notifications.
I'm not touching lollipop until the problems are sorted out plus I hate the WiFi and signal icons in lollipop.

I agree. That and the horrible battery life associated with the way Lollipop currently is.
Uhhhhh, problems with 5.0? I don't get it. I've been running 5.0 since I got this thing, 2 weeks now, and its been amazing. Coming from a 2013 X, this thing flies. No ram issues that I have seen. Battery life, same as 2013 X for me, actually a little better with over 10hrs on Bluetooth headset. But then I was running Xposed so that might have caused some issues with my Old X.

The battery life could be better. The RAM management causes that some apps -like the launcher- keeps closing while you're using other apps.
The battery life is about what I expected for a screen the size it is with such a small battery, a decent improvement over my smaller N5 with same size battery, albeit over a year old. As for memory management, I had occasional launcher redraws and apps not staying in memory when when N5 updated to lollipop, but have not experienced this at all on my Moto X. I also essentially started fresh on 5.0, powered my moto x up, went through setup, updated immediately to lollipop, and went ahead and did a factory reset. So maybe the fact my phone wasn't used on KitKat at all before updating saved me some problems, don't know. All I know is I don't have memory issues, had my phone a little over 2 weeks now, and today was the first reboot (to apply a screen protector) I've done since day 1.

I agree with you, Battery life is ok and memory management also is ok, I also used my phone with Lollipop directly.
Battery performance was enhanced after checking which apps caused high battery drain and disabled it.

Thanks for the tip, I don't reboot my phone very often so it is perfect for me.
Next thing for me is to unlock the bootloader and root for exposed, really liking this phone more every day although I have had it less than a week yet.
The first update released was 5.0 for pure edition. Then Motorola's developers went to work on bringing the update to other variants, and by that time 5.0.1 and 5.0.2 came out. Now that they're working on the xt1095 again, they'll be pushing the 5.1 update.
Basically, they're not going to halt all progress on bringing other updates just to keep pure edition on the cutting edge. It got the first spot on line, but once they finalized its 5.0 release it had to wait for its next turn in line. Also, it doesn't make sense to release a 5.0 update for the others when 5.0.1 exists just to make pure edition owners feel special about being the most up to date.
Full disclosure: I have the pure edition.

RAM issue is a major problem! This phone won't allow you to drop below 450MB free of RAM i've noticed since going to lollipop. Quite an issue causing constant reloading of apps. the opposite really of whats supposed to happen with android. Its really making the CPU work a lot harder more often to completely reopen apps. With KitKat, never had this issue. Everything stayed in RAM and used no where near this amount actually, i typically had 750-800 free., but even if i dropped to 200 free it wasn't exiting apps and causing everything to reload. And its not like i've installed any new apps since.
Lets not even get me started on battery life as thats horrendous since going to lollipop.

I mean, I don't have a source, I figured that's what makes sense. It would be unreasonable to expect Motorola to not update ANYTHING until the Pure Edition is up to date, and it also doesn't make sense for them to push an update that's outdated on release.
Motorola promised "fast" updates for the Pure Edition but it's not the only job their developers have. It was indeed the first they updated, but they also have to update the rest of their lineup, and they can't leave everyone on KitKat while continuing to give exclusive updates to the xt1095.
Considering how small of changes they'd have to do for all the other devices, I really don't think it's unreasonable to expect the pure edition to always get the updates first though and then the others. Really, you can install the pure editions software on other devices without issues other than the radio.

Lollipop 5.1.1 stock released. Post your impressions & Bugs here

Now that Lollipop 5.1.1 has officially released by Sony, what are your impressions? Is it worth the upgrade from kitkat or lollipop 5.0.2?
Please share your experiences.
Camera focuses MUCH faster and I have convenient shortcuts in status bar for wifi and bluetooth. I don't have any problems with 5.1.1 nor did I have with 5.0.2.
Z3(5.1.1) stands for a while, line messages won't notice me.
It works great with one exception, every time I power up my phone I'm getting the following message:
5.1.1
I don't know when the launcher was updated to have a custom drawer layout but it's extra smooth and now for the first time ever I'm using a default launcher because I can arrange the apps and hide them out of the way, etc.
The ui feels silky smooth and fluid compared to 5.0.2, I feel like I'm using the z3 again and not some ****ty galaxy ace with unofficial lollipop or something.
Overall the looks and performance have gotten a lot better.
The sound still needs improvement.
What about the audio during calls when using the speaker phone option?
I feel after updated to 5.1 phone easy get warm up
For me biggest bug at the moment is that after deblocking screen colors are washed out when brightness autolevel enabled.
Only had the update installed for around an hour, so my experience is limited. I'll update this post once I've had time to use it for a while.
However, immedietly I have noticed that my phone is MUCH more responsive and fluid. There isnt a stutter when I open my app draw, it's now instant.
I havent noticed a differnece in sound quality - or if I have it isnt a huge difference.
It does seem to be running warmer than usual.
The camera now loads instantly when I press the hard camera button, which is really nice.
two days, no bug for the moment
Camera is really fast. It's even too fast lol ?

Better batery life with 5.1.1:
3 hours with 3g, 20 min of calls, no stamina Mode, debloated by me, and greenify some apps.
Bugs?
1) gap between battery and signal icons.
2) sometimes after unlock the phone, the brightness goes crazy for 3 seconds... (The screen light up much)

Indeed, i had it since 5.0.2 as well. And it doesn't happen all the time.
A bug i found is that the new quick Wi-Fi screen keeps saying "No saved networks found" while i'm connected to 1 and the "normal" screen shows all the networks around.

Moto X Pure Edition Issues

I have been using the Moto X PE for three weeks now. I have the 16GB version from Amazon. I got this phone after getting a refund from a Nexus 6 that had a pink tint on the screen. However, this phone also seems to have some issues. When I close recent apps one by one, it shows extreme lag. When I change the brightness to max I can see a series of lines going down the screen. A lot of times apps randomly shut down, but that might just be poor coding. The screen is also a little bit yellow but I heard it is normal. Also, I can spot random black lines on the edges of the screen when using Google Chrome. Sometimes I can even see small parts of picture on the side of the screen as I browse the web. Is anybody having similar issues? I was thinking of getting a refund and buying the 32GB version and maybe that would fix these issues. Or maybe the Marshmallow update will fix these issues? I am even thinking of getting the Nexus 6P if I have to keep dealing with these issues.
Tbh, I also have noticed a few of these. The lag in the recent, yep, haven't noticed the issue at max brightness, no yellow, and I think I have noticed once where I could see a small part of picture on the very edge of the screen, can't remember if it was in chrome or not... I prob won't t return it tho. With the selection of phones available right now, I'll keep this. I love nexus phones but don't want either the 5x or 6p. Wont own a one plus phone. Note 5 is great, touchwiz is trash.. I'll just hope MM improves things. I seen it was announced some devices are getting the update so we will see. I know there are some probs but when u consider everything, this phone for the price is really good. I'm keeping it.

I love my Moto X PE, I'm starting to find easy fixes to some of the issues. There's an app called "Screen Balance" that fixed my yellow tint. I will wait for the Marshmallow Update to see if everything else is fixed.
Cool. I did update to mm(rooted) and the recents lag is 100% fixes. I did recently experience the series of lines going down the screen, they were white, Kinda blurred the whole screen, but it was just the one time, a reboot fixed it and hasn't happened since. Also haven't experienced the problems people have had with notifications sounds. I have had the cracking or poping of the speakers, but seems MM also fixed that. Things are much better imo, hbu? Have you upgraded to mm?
Also are u rooted? I just assume bec we are on xda that every roots their phone but I guess not.

Glad to hear that Marshmallow Update will fix these issues. I'm currently returning my Moto X PE 16 GB for a 32 GB that's on discount on Amazon for $50. I'm not rooted because I already enjoy the stock Android experience.

Android O - OTA Update & First Thoughts

Hi All,
As the title states: I have an unlocked Pixel XL directly from Google. Popped in a Verizon SIM a few months back and it works perfectly. The Android O Update arrived and I chose to move forward.
Overall - Android O is great. The one thing that I have noticed is that my battery life has decreased. Android Nougat had amazing battery life on the Pixel.
Has anyone experienced this issue with Android O? I am not rooted.
996
I've experienced issues with voice typing not working, and voice texting showing a black white screen, yet working.
Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
My experience is there is slight lag that Nougat never had, battery drain is bad, and many things that worked for me in Nougat stopped in Oreo like auto tethering.
Most of these issues will probably resolved over time by Google and the developers who make apps we use, and I just installed Google play services version 948 to see if it fixes battery drain. I'm learning the more Google goes in the direction of security they are going, the longer fixes and updates for things that stop working with major upgrades takes. I am surprised nothing for Oreo in Rom development has been released other than Elemental X, but I am spoiled and should have learned the development patience that was Pixel when it first came out.
The performance/smoothness since Oreo release has been simply fantastic for me. On Nougat I always had the random freezing issue, which drove me bonkers, would have sold the phone had it continued like that, but Oreo has got rid of the problem totally and the performance of the device has been top notch for last two weeks since I am using Oreo. So that's a huge plus for me.
Other than that I don't appreciate some of the UI changes done. Like the reduced font size of Lockscreen date and clock, the date especially is very hard to notice at slight glance. The white notification pull down is killing my eyes. The new settings menu though looks clean enough.
Some apps have started working erratic though, like the call recorder I use doesn't work half the time now, but given Oreo is out for two weeks only that's understandable. However the preview Betas ran for months before the official release, so that's one thing.
About batter backup, well, on WiFi its either on par with Nougat or slightly better, but on data/LTE its simply worse.
All in all, as first release, I like it, I am a smoothness freak and as long as UI reacts buttery I am all good.
Don't like the UI changes.
Battery life as far as screen on time is somewhat lower than on N.
Its cool to have LDAC and AptX BT support, but its not always reliable and i notice it reverts to SBC frequently and require re-pair of device (mainly my car head unit).
PowerAmp no longer thinks the Pixel supports HiFI DAC.....so my very nice USB DAC is no longer amazing sounding. (worked fine on N)
Like above, my battery life has been subpar, as well as the other day my phone repeatedly would overheat within a minute of booting. Like very hot, and then would shut off.
We've already been talking about all that over here:
