Has anyone been able to get MMS working on the T-Mobile HD2 using AT&T's network?
I downloaded and installed the network wizard cab from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=250891&d=1259353814
Still cannot get MMS to work. I also made sure the proxy was enabled. All settings appear to be correct, is this AT&T pouting because they didn't get this device?
so your tmoUS HD2 is unlocked?
Yes, it works...
I have a T9193 operating on ATT in the US. MMS works great (you can send photos, videos and others) without a hitch.
All I did was install a ROM from the many ones available here (I'm no expert; I used one of Artemis' ROMs). Works great.

I and many other AT&T users have been using this phone since its European release and have had MMS working without a hitch. For $10 a month data plan and edge speeds ~500 +, I don't really see AT&T making a fuss whether it has this phone or not.
Yeah, I got mine unlocked over the weekend at htc-unlocker.org... 30 bucks but it was worth it....
I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get my MMS working... Text is working, Data is working, but no MMS.... Any ideas??
hey guys i figured out how to get mms on tmous hd2.
1.http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=88058&d=1211735066 install this first
2.the install http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=269964&d=1263970936 then your mms will me enabled
Yes!
I had previously set up my Edge network and it took me awhile to find the MMS settings.
From the Home page go to...
Messages/All Messages/Menu/Settings/Options/Menu/MMS Server/New
Server Name: Cingular MMS
Gateway: 66.209.11.32 (This is wireless.cingular.com)
Port number: 80
Server address: http://mmsc.cingular.com
Connect via: MEdia Net
Sending size limitation: 300k
WAP Version: WAP 2.0
Then use menu and set it as default.
Go get your messages!!!
Hows the speed on edge? I am thinking about buying Tmobile HD2 and use it on AT&T.
Thank god I found this, hopefully
Well, I have been at this since 1pm on 3/30 and it is now 3am on 3/31. Just as I was about to call it a night I found this and thought it might be where I need to be at. I copied Paradigm_Shift's settings which is something i had been looking for all night, since the HD2 input is different from pretty much everything else on att forums, etc. So i have Paradigm's MMS settings. My next question for your Paradigm is what is your MediaNet set to?
Quick backround, i got my HD2 about 2 days before with the wal mart glitch, called tmobile for a free unlock (even though it wasnt out and i wasnt a customer ever, no idea how that worked). Got my unlock code the day the phone was released. And just today (yesterday now) realized i couldnt do MMS. I have unlimited texts with AT&T which include MMS so i know thats not the problem. I just know it has to be my MediaNet settings. So if yours is working, Paradigm, would you mind posting and I can compare? Ive honestly exhausted wwhat I thought was every possible way, so im hoping when I see yours or someone that has MMS working, i will find my error and be on my way with the best/sexiest smartphone eva! Thanks in advance to anyone who can help. Like i said, ive been at this for essentially a day and had to post. The closest thing i ever found was this which contained a cab file that created media net profile but apparently doesnt work (obviously):
..... okay nevermind, i guess n00bs cant post links so ill just say it was on a site called fuzemobility and the author was Doug Smith, his latest article.
Thanks again. Ill be checking this tomorrow after work........ which is in 4 hours. FML. This phone has already consumed me.
Oh yes, quick side note- theres no way for AT&T to tell what phone we have and force a data plan onto us (for those of us that dont) since this is technically a tmo phone, right? *Fingers crossed*

I really have not noticed much of a difference.
But there is this....
AT&T users: +500kbps on EDGE

I will be testing it today.

Any response to my first post?
Thanks if you do.

Wow, really glad to have helped.
Here is what I used...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=362586
The path there is lightly different.
Home Page/Settings/Wireless Controls/Data connection/Advanced/Select Networks
And I only used the MEdia Net settings.
He also has an additional connection "AT&T ISP:"
which is used for tethering. (I currently do not know if we are going to need this b/c of the possible wifi router ability).
I found this additional support information from AT&T. It gives you a solid foundation.
MEdia Net: http://www.wireless.att.com/answer-center/main.jsp?t=solutionTab&solutionId=KB84444
MMS: http://www.wireless.att.com/answer-center/main.jsp?t=solutionTab&solutionId=62373
Plot Thickens
Thanks a lot for the response Paradigm. Honestly, this post started with "Looks like the search continues." But no less than 10 seconds ago, i got the HTC jingle that my message had downloaded!!!!! Oh my god! Honestly, the only thing i noticed that I changed were PORT numbers for proxy. Just because I know how stressful this was for me, I am going to post pictures of each page of the MediaNet setup when I get off work to hopefully help someone else.
Again, thanks Paradigm a thousand times. Its funny because I do remember getting that site from google earlier in the night, but I was so sure the medianet settings were already set correctly from a cab file i downloaded. So happy to see I now get my MMS
Of course, this amazing news is somewhat dampended by the following text I just received from AT&T -
"Did you know a data plan is required for your SMartphone?"
followed almost immediately by the text
"Your smartphone requires a data plan. We had added the appropriate plan for your smartphone. Call 611 for more info"
*Sigh* So I guess my hopes and dreams of staying on my wifi undetected are thwarted once again by AT&T. I just dont get it though, its not an AT&T phone so how did they figure it out? I even posted/asked multiple forums (albeit all but xda, of course ) if buying the HD2 and unlocking it to AT&T if AT&T would be able to figure it out and incur data charges/plans. If you google that phrase Im sure it is my question your reading, lol. And essentially every answer was no. I dont know, maybe ill have to resort to this cooked ROM stuff? Not sure if that will help or not. Im gonna call the 611 number and try and explain that I popped my SIM card in someone elses phone for a day to test it out. Hopefully it will atleast buy me some time to figure out a way around it.
I have MoDaCo's NoData .cab program installed so I know the only data being sent was for MediaNet (for MMS).
But again, Paradigm, thanks for atleast getting me to receive MMS. I now understand why XDA rules. If anyone has any advice/tips/etc on my now current dilemma, go ahead and post it and Ill give it a shot.
Look to seeing those pics posted sometime after i get off work around 5ish (arizona/west coast time).
Happy I decided to join the community.

Hmm, I wonder if AT&T and T-Mobile are sharing IMEI numbers for certain devices.
Exactly
Ya, thats the only thing I can think of. I know I messed with alot of internet settings in order to get MediaNet working but at worst I would think AT&T would think "Hey he's just accidentally hitting browse or something"
I just dont see how its possible. Im trying to log in online to see if my phone shows up as a smartphone or still my ancient SE W510i.
hey i posted it on post 6
Current Phone
So I just checked online and it says my current phone is:
RIM
7290
but still shows a picture of my W510i.
So obviously the HD2 wouldnt be in their system and this is possibly their default unit when it doesnt recognize/have the phone in their system
eastside770
IN response to: eastside770 hey i posted it on post 6
I downloaded both of the files and installed them in that order. Then I couldnt find anything to do with them on my phone? I went to file explorer and all i can click on is a voicemail icon and an MMS icon that does nothing. Does this require a ROM mod or anything? I apologize if its obvious. Like i said, this is my first smartphone But ya, I installed both of them on my storage card, good to go. Soft reset. Nothing new though: Where am I supposed to see these apps at or see the results/edit them?
Thanks,
Ryan
Also, is this in response to getting MediaNet set up or so AT&T doesnt know Im on a another phone (I dont know, maybe this messaging client hides stuff from AT&T somehow )
They sent you a lovely text about implementing a data plan on your phone because you're using MMS! MMS requires network data (not your wifi) so when someone sends you an MMS or you send them an MMS, it goes through the MMS proxy server that you set up...and VOILA...AT&T knows that you're transmitting data when you don't have a data plan.
So to recap in case you're still wondering why you're getting slap with a data plan:
SMS - no data plan required
MMS - data plan required
If you can't live with MMS, call them up and said it was a mistake and that now you're using an old phone (that's not a smartphone) and just ask them to put you on the regular medianet ($15) plan rather than the PDA/Smartphone ($30) plan that they're putting you on. You save $15 a month and get text as much MMS your heart desire.
I Understand
lude219 -
I understand that. Dont worry Ive asked this before. MMS is included with Unlimited SMS for my plan on AT&T, as is IM as long as it is one of the programs pre-installed on the phone, so it doesnt require a data plan. I have triple checked this. Trust me, ive been going on MMS with no charges on my W510i for the last 3 years, and just recently called about 2 weeks ago to confirm MMS doesnt charge in preparation for the move to HD2. Im going to call and ask. But thanks for the MediaNet tip, kind of like the Tzones hidden plan with Tmobile. Ill give it my best.
Thanks for trying tho lude219! All help is appreciated
Disclaimer at the bottom of the post... *
Updated for ICS / Ice Cream Sandwich - tentative settings, please confirm if these work for you. (Look for additional red text.)
Thank you to everyone who took the time to figure all this stuff out! All I did was take some pretty screenshots to make it easier for beginners.
OK, I want to make this short, simple, and thorough. I don't think those things are mutually exclusive.
First, you need an activated Straight Talk SIM card that can be transferred to other phones. **
Put the SIM into your Note, turn it on, and open the system settings. Then tap the following...
Wireless and network > Mobile networks > Access Point Names
The next screen should look something like the attached image #1: "APNs". Tap the Menu button and tap the New APN button. ***
You need to create two APNs. The name you enter in the Name field apparently doesn't matter. I just used "Internet" and "MMS" to avoid confusion. Copy the settings in the two attached image numbers 2: "APN_1" and image number 3: "APN_2". I drew a yellow check mark next to all the entries that I needed to change, I suppose some firmware versions/ROMs/phones may be different. When you're done entering in all the required addresses and stuff, tap the Menu button and tap the Save button.
APN 1...
Name: Internet
APN: att.mvno
The method for setting the "APN type" varies. Choose "internet" if you are given a list of choices, type "default" if you must type it in.
APN type: internet
APN type: default
Typing "default" seems to work on imilka's AOSP ICS v03 ROM for the internet at least, I haven't tried MMS yet. I suspect it will work with other ICS builds as well.
APN 2...
Name: MMS
APN: att.mvno
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS proxy: proxy.mvno.tracfone.com
MMS port: 80
APN type: mms
When you save the second APN and you return to the APNs screen: select the radio button on the first APN (see attached image number 4: "Select_APN").
Tap the Back button to return to the Manage network settings screen. Put a check mark into the Use packet data option (see attached image number 5: "Check_use_packet_data"). Shortly after checking that box my phone connected to the network.
Yay you're done! This worked on my phone, I hope it works for y'all too.
* This is for informational purposes only. I am not an expert. Frankly, I don't even know what these settings really do. I simply copied them from other places on the internet (like this thread). There is an app, APN Backup & Restore, that can be used to (gasp!) backup and restore your APN settings, if you're nervous about doing this I suggest you backup your current APN settings before proceeding. It looks like there are other APN settings apps, it's possible one of them is better... I dunno. Personally, I did not use any APN-centric app, though I did have a backup of my whole phone made by Clockwork Mod ROM Manager
** I am no expert, but people on the internet say the only way to get a transferable SIM is to buy a Nokia E71 or a Nokia 6790 from Straight Talk. Check out straighttalk.com, they might be selling a refurbished E71 or 6790 (currently the refurbished 6790 is ~$50 with free overnight shipping). Personally, I left the SIM in my Nokia until the service was activated. I saw someone on the net say that you should switch the SIM back to the Straight Talk phone before calling tech support. I don't know if this is really something you have to do or not. Personally, I'm going to keep the phone around and use it whenever I have to call them.
*** If your screen shows some APNs already I'm afraid I don't know what you should do. I suggest you stop using my guide and see if you can get some expert advice elsewhere. I'm sorry about that!
Nice write-up! I am on ST as well.
A tip for getting a refurbished e71 to show up in the phone options is by starting the process with a zipcode nearish to where you live that is more densely populated, and then just changing the address when you are placing the order. Save some bucks that way.
Also, I believe that the E71 provided by ST is locked to the SIM included with it and will not work with other SIM cards. It is probably best to just hang onto the handset.
I have tried with Fast Dormancy (*#*#9900#*#*) both enabled and disabled and get the same speeds either way (2-3Mbps), so I just leave it disabled since it seems that it could drain the battery more if left enabled.
Thanks!
I forgot I'd seen Fast Dormancy mentioned on the other threads... I'm going to try it with it disabled for a while as well.
... later
Hmmm... disabling it seems to have started causing problems immediately. I connected to the Market and searched for a speed test app. It worked for a little bit, but by the time I had typed "speedtest" into the search bar my internet connection apparently got lost. I tried turning it back on and the internet connection seemed to return.
I am just curious, what sort of speed you getting with the Straight Talk.
I have the go-phone plan and getting these speed :
btw, i have the Fast Dormancy disabled and it work great!

Thanks for the info OP.. I didn't know you needed a special phone for removeable sim card.

I have the 500MB data package for $25 with monthly roll over. I guess any data plan can get my speed with go-phone.
Argh, I wrote out a response but then, being absent-minded, I decided to click a link and lost it. Here's a pic with five speed tests I did. The results are inconsistent, but it doesn't look like they're being throttled or anything to me.
Note the second one on the list. Extremes in both directions. It says 33 kbps upload speed, but I though it hung so I attempted to cancel the test early. I'm not sure if it actually finished, timed out, or if I successfully canceled it.
I'm also using my note with this setup. The only difference I did is that instead of making two separate APN types I just combined everything into one and set the APN type to Internet + MMS. Works fine for me.
Thank you thank you thank you for this.
Going to use my note on Straighttalk also.
Have been using my note on straight talk since day 1, have had a couple days of going 100+mbs of data in a day without any issues
Just like to let you guys know, don't think the grass is greener if you have a tiered data plan on ATT
I have a 2g data plan and out of 142 speed tests mostly at two different locations a mile apart I have had exactly 25 times where my speed was over 1mbps download and the majority of those were at 2am or later when there's nobody on the network. I even called them to ask if they had throttled me because my speeds were so low (I'm in the Melbourne area of Florida btw) and they said no....we just suck...ok they didn't say we just suck but after looking into it I was told yea well in the daytime there's a lot of people on the network which slows things down...Yea really? to below 1 mbps???
So if you're thinking you're missing out on something you're not...that is not until your area gets LTE theeeeeeen you'll be missing out on what is nothing short of phenomenal speed. In the meantime...save ur dough til it's in your area. I'll be going to ST or Go Phone until then myself. It's the principal of the thing too. Why should I pay top dollar for that kind of crappy speed when someone in the city is getting 49mbps dl speed on the same plan I got? While being restricted to 2Gb no less.

wow this is on straight talk? I live in downtown seattle and was testing their network and it was like 1.5 down....
If their 3g (hspa+) speeds are the same as straight talk, there isn't any reason to get into an expensive contract.
Can anyone else post their straight talk speeds?
Straight Talk lets you buy just the sim card now so you can save $50 and skip the phone purchase.
great! is there any issues with using strait talk on the note aside from not having 4g speeds? and when do they start throttling your bandwidth? i really would rather transfer my number from tmobile and get a st sim than have to deal with edge speeds on tmobile.
So this is faster than t-mobile right? If so I'm getting it cause I'm on t-mobile now and might as well if its faster and same price
From the Beast : Galaxy Note
sounds like it is faster than normal AT&T HSPA+. From what i've seen, normal AT&T hspa+ speeds are around 1 to 1.5megs..
So if there is no LTE in your city, why have AT&T at all? Buy a phone off contract and pay only $45 a month in cell phone bills..
H+ in my area is around 2-3 during the weekday, and 5-6 meg in the evening.
Is yours not setup correctly to get only 1-2?
I got 4 Down and 2 Up using the settings they sent me with my SIM Only Straight Talk Account.

how is straight talk data service?
i have a question about straight talk's data service. on the internet, it seems like straight talk imposes limitations as to how you can use the data?
are you able to use the internet normally like watching youtube videos etc?
can you tether?
are there things that you cannot do compared to what you can do with other 3g/4g providers?
i ask these questions because i just saw this thread a moment ago, and gave me some hopes to buying an internation version of galaxy note and not have to pay too much money getting a plan with att. (i don't want the att version because of the hardware difference)
Hi
I was playing around with my phone and tried the old hack through the settings screen, *#*#4636#*#*.
Switched it to LTE and set up a new APN for Rogers LTE.
It Didn't work. After more reading I discovered this wouldn't work for me anyway. I have Android 4.4.2 and I don't think my SIM is LTE enabled.
I rebooted thinking it would just go back to the original settings.
It seems to have gone back but now I have No signal at all.
I am with Rogers. I tried going back to the original APN settings and selecting Rogers.
The phone is finding the correct networks for my area.
I tried the Reset to default in the APN settings. This sets the APNs to Rogers LTE and chatr, not the original Rogers APN that I started with.
The phone is rooted but running stock Android 4.4.2.
The baseband seems correct.
What have I done and how do I fix it?
Have I done something to the Rogers SIM?
Thanks

Had to assume that because I've never seen someone try LTE without doing so.
What you can try is find the stock radio, which might still be the same as you are using, then flash it. Maybe that will reset things back to normal.

No luck.
I tried flashing the stock radio then flashed everything using efrant's instructions. Still no go.
The thing I find strange is when I select Reset to default in the APN settings it sets the APN to Rogers LTE not the default 3G setting.
Delete the Rogers LTE apn and make a new one with this info:
Name: Rogers
APN: rogers-core-appl1.apn
MMSC: http ://mms.gprs.rogers.com
MMS Proxy: 10.128.1.69
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 302
MNC: 720
APN Type: mms
You can also try this one:
APN: internet.com
Username: wapuser1
Password: wap
Go to phone info *#*#4636#*#*, and change network type to WCDMA Preferred. Reboot, and see if that does it.
I've done that several times.
Still won't connect.
The error is; No service. Selected network (ROGERS) unavailable.
When I search networks Telus, Bell and Rogers all show up.
I've tried selecting Rogers and selecting automatically. When I select automatically it selects Rogers but comes back with the same error.

That was already suggested.
I have tried wiping everything out and flashing a complete stock 4.4.2.
I've also tried another Rogers SIM.
This is getting ridiculous.
All I did was change a setting from "WCDMA Preferred" to "LTE/GSM auto (PRL)" and back again and that killed a phone?

I find this very strange. I use the secret menu on two phones but have never heard of this happening. My N4 will only lose signal for a few moments before switching to gsm autoprl, after switching from LTE/GSM.

Mystery solved.
I don't know why it happened at exactly the time when I tried LTE but...
The phone has been reported lost or stolen.
I bought it over two weeks ago. I checked the IMEI on the Government web site, that is supposed to protect us from this kind of thing, and it came back clean. I checked again last night and it's blacklisted.
I would say the girl that I bought it from got it on a $0 contract. Sold it then reported it lost or stolen. She's still on the hook for the contract but, so what, she'll never really have to pay it. Either that or it takes 2-3 weeks for a phone to show up on the blacklist.
Either way, the Government initiative to blacklist stolen or lost phones sounded like a good idea but in reality it's not protecting anyone.
So, now I have a small tablet and learned a lesson. Don't buy used cell phones and if you do, don't trust the protectyourdata.ca web site to protect you.
The site boasts;
"Purchasing a pre-owned device?
Check the IMEI number here to ensure the device has not been reported lost or stolen in Canada."
Thanks for trying to help folks. I did learn more about Android through this.

The site boasts;
"Purchasing a pre-owned device?
Check the IMEI number here to ensure the device has not been reported lost or stolen in Canada."
Thanks for trying to help folks. I did learn more about Android through this.

I've seen about 2 or 3 threads on Android Central with the same symptoms that seemed to never get resolved.
I suspect they had the same problem and either didn't know how to check or were to embarrassed to say.
I was upset but I want others to be able to find this answer.
Through buying and selling different phones working my way up to the Nexus 4 I'm really only $110 out of pocket.
A 16GB Android media player with WiFi must be worth $110.
So, is there a way to eliminate the wireless radio and leave WiFi?
I guess I should start another thread on that.

Airplane mode also turns of the WiFi.
I just pulled the SIM, deleted all APNs, turned off Mobile Data and left WiFi on.
The warning that I had no data connection is gone and I still have the ability to make a 911 call if necessary.
Unlocked, rooted and flashed a USB-OTG enabled kernel. This is great fun...

You can turn wifi on with airplane mode on as well. Just do it after airplane mode is already on.
But that works too, I guess

Yep, just figured that out.
Did you make a police report? You might not be able to recoup anything, but you should still make the seller be responsible for their actions

I have an ntelos S5 (G900R7). There is no development for this phone anywhere on the internet. Perhaps I can find support here?
---------
So far (you may skip this part):
I have managed to successfully install Spirit Rom with full functionality, by copying my old build.prop into the system directory, and restoring my previous apn settings using the apnsbu. I forget why I left this rom, but I did. Everything I try has some problem! I then proceeded to try just CM11, by itself, and had 3g difficulties. Then, using Kushman's sprint MIUI, (Ntelos shares sprint towers) things seemed to work right, but it remapped my recent app key to menu... (perhaps I can map it back?) and the volume was not controlled by my physical volume buttons.
-----------
Now my favorite rom so far: Mokee Rom It's fast and visually pleasing, but I have wi-fi and phone difficulties.
After imposing my APN settings, I can reproduce these effects:
(1) Before replacing build.prop, the wi-fi works and can be enabled or disabled as I need. Also, 3g works very well at nice speeds, but it says "Verizon Wireless" underneath the 3g indicator bars. However, I cannot make calls. If I attempt to do so, the 3g data stops working, turns orange, and no longer says "3g". If I do this, then no data can be transmitted or received.
(2) After Replacing build.prop with the "good original" copy (which sometimes fixes similar problems in other custom roms) the wi-fi becomes stuck in a constant state of "turning wi-fi on..." but never turns on. 3g still works, but, as in part (1), it will break if I try to make a call.'' Also, in this case it says "Sprint" instead of "Verizon Wireless"
Does any one have advice, or perhaps some build.prop settings to modify? Or maybe there's a different file that would help. Again, my phone is the SM G900R7. Has someone else with this phone had luck customizing it?
Thank you
nTelos S5
Likewise have a nTelos S5, have not found any custom roms that can successfully be installed without data or phone issues.
Also trying to install any ASOP roms resulted with all phone efs data getting cleared.
Upon searched relentlessly the only rom I found that functions is located at
http://teamcspire.com/index.php?/topic/112-gs5-g900r7-r2-teamcspire-nd8stock-deodexed-101814/
its very stock but functions flawlessly for me.
Advise if you have any luck, I will reciprocate.

My advice is to you, is that if you install Mokee rom, do not update it with OTA update. This is what I think broke the network for me. Even after restoring my phone to factory conditions and using Kies, I still had no network. I ended up going to the nTelos store, where they had to reset the network service for my phone on their end... strange.
Anyway, I have made a few roms work, and I suspect I could make more. If you maintain your apn settings, and build.prop, you should be able to make Spirit rom work. The same thing is true for Miui. However, if I remember from my experience correctly, if you do install Miui, then I THINK you should not restore your original build.prop; it may work without it... just restore the apn settings. When you do this, you may have to change the preferred network mode... I am a little freaked out, after my previous experience with Mokee rom, to mess with this any longer, though. I do have a problem with Spirit rom: if I use the Timely alarm clock, the time panel is miscolored, but I believe that could possibly? be fixed by flashing a different kernel. I plan on flashing Spirit tonight.... stock uses up my battery too fast, and Spirit just feels more responsive.
EDIT: I just re-flashed Spirit Rom, and they fixed the discoloration in the most recent version! Also, as before, my 3g and WiFi work fine.
Took me days...
The CSpire shares the model number and ROM. The US Cellular CM11 is the closest. Somewhere in that I lost my ability to send texts (not sure if it's the SMSC or...) and didn't get it back when I ODIN'd to stock. I would LOVE to have CM support for this model.
I also am in the same boat as you guys. I would love to get another reliable ROM on this phone. I just have bad memories of purchasing my last one (Sprint GS3) from ebay, and having one hell of a time making the MMS work after flashing it for nTelos. However, I never did have to mess with any of the APNs or build.prop settings on that one. I would think the Sprint ROMs should be the closest compatible ROM, being that nTelos and Sprint do share towers in WVa and Va (Sprint actually has zero towers in these states, and leases nTelos towers instead).
Is using EFS Backup by Wanam a good method to insure the EFS does not get screwed up?

You might try saving out your wpa_supplicant file from the stock ROM and replacing it on the flashed ROM. This has worked for me before on my GS3. That might take care of the wifi anyway.
I'm also on ntelos with the s5 now. But it is a us cellular unlocked by them phone. Stuck in a ntelos sim card that I bought from store and everything works. Except 4g. I can live w/o it but it's kinda like a puzzle now. How could I enable this to work on ntelos?
Depending on where you are, ntelos does not have 4G in many places yet. It's still very spotty in West Virginia.
Has anyone taken the OTA Lollipop update? If so, how is it working and does it lock or put in a new bootloader?
I have. It's a little laggy at times, gets really hot when using it while charging and battery drains a little faster. Not sure about the bootloader

I think I will hold off for a while. My stock NK1 is laggy enough as is. Damn, I wish there was a compatible ASOP ROM available for this phone.
Honestly, this Samsung G5 is the absolute worst phone I have ever owned! I would like to get a S6, but my experience has been so bad with this S5, I am almost afraid to stick with Samsung. However, my S3 was awesome!
Just found out that the heart rate sensor is active when the phone is on no matter if S Health is open or not.
I am in the Richmond area on Ntelos. They have stated they have sold their bandwidth to T-Mobile and we are to find another carrier. My phone is not even a year old and no other carrier will activate it. Being I own mine outright and paid close to $600, I am about to lose my mind knowing that I will have a shiny expensive very small tablet in a few months. Has anyone a clue how to change this phone over to GSM or something useful. Verizon refused to even try, though I know when I tried Straight Talk's Verizon Sim it did dial to Verizon's customer service. But Straight Talk nor Verizon would activate it.
Ideas and suggestions welcome.

Thanks for the info. I am on the frawg side of things now. Their plans were too much when mine ended and I didn't need a phone at the time. Then a few years later, yeah I made my S1 last almost 4 years, I bought the S5 late last year outright. Loved the S1. Made that do everything it just did everything slow at the end.
Anyway, am glad there are options of some sort. Have been reading the reviews of pageplus. What kind of speeds are you getting on it with 4G? Their map shows coverage everywhere which makes me a bit uneasy, as in too good to be true. Is it a simple flash or require editing?
If I can't do something else with the phone, I may try the band opening options. According to the phone specs, it should already have all the Verizon bands but they refuse to activate it due to the meid it seems. I have a feeling this topic may get more viewers as the Ntelos off switch day comes closer.
Google Fit was the culprit for the heart rate sensor staying on. Un-installed it and fixed it
After all this time, has anybody found a ROM that works well on this phone?
can't get data so Internet not working on galaxy s5 unlocked already switched ntelos

In case nobody has seen this, there is a now a CyanogenMod 5.1.1 ROM available now for nTelos. I have been running it for 3 days now and I really like it. Good battery life too. Very stable and very speedy. There are some occasional bluetooth audio stuttering issues, but nothing terrible.
See this thread.

The point of this thread is to have a general place for Sprint folks to help each other out.
I started it because I saw a lot of the same information getting repeated in the S5 thread.
I'll be keeping a list of a few tips and tricks to help get your Sprint S5/Note 3 working as best as it possibly can, and hopefully explain it in a straightforward matter.
If anyone has other suggestions of what should go here, please let me know.
Common problems:
1. LTE isn't working
Possible solutions:
1. Your network provisioning got weird somehow. Flash stock, update your PRL, update your Profile, and then flash Lineage again
2. Your sim card is very old, and we no longer have hacks to support it. Get a new one off eBay, and follow steps in solution 1 for provisioning. See list of working SIM cards below
2. Other network service isn't working
Possible solutions:
1. Your network provisioning got weird somehow. Flash stock, update your PRL, update your Profile, and then flash Lineage again
3. Phone is bouncing between network types
Possible solutions:
1. Try making a standard voice call, to force it to CDMA or EvDO, to help stabilize the connection
4. Voicemail notifications don't show
Disclaimer: Known bug, will not be fixed. This is because sometimes voicemail read signals don't get cleared properly in Sprint's system, so they show forever.
Possible workarounds:
1. Manually call voicemail whenever you get a missed call
2. Use Google Voice and forward calls and texts to a dummy number on your phone instead, or use Sprint's Google Voice integration
General Tips:
1. Don't mess with preferred network settings, I set them specifically to work properly on Sprint

I have a G900P with Virgin Mobile. I wanted to provide some info on the bouncing between GSM-CDMA issue. Today I wiped three times and flashed three builds (LineageOS 10/25, 11/1, and crDroid 10/26 based on LOS 10/25). In all three times, after wiping and flashing roms, I would see the phone bouncing CDMA-GSM when switching between preferred network types. Then I would dirty flash the same ROM (only the rom, nothing else), it seemed like this issue goes away and the phone is VERY stable. I will wipe again to see if I can keep replicating this phenomenon. You guys can try to dirty flash to see if it also fixes the LTE connection issue (nothing to lose). I saw it a few times but I couldn't see a pattern, and now that I have been switching preferred network types several times over the last few hours, I have not seen it anymore. I will keep testing.
The G900P radio issue has been going on forever. its almost as bad as the timezone bug we have had forever.
install rand g900p cyanogenmond/lineage rom.... go through install..... deal with phone trying to escape into wrong carrier or frequency... pray it remains stable for work.... post logcat hoping for fix..... repeat for several years with no avail......

I'll add the suggestion to not mess with preferred network types, I set the default to what is ideal for Sprint. Did you dirty flash the ROMs over themselves? or over an older version?

I aim to improve that, at least a little bit. The stability has improved, from the feedback I've been getting. The timezone bug was fixed a long time ago as well, in May iirc (and it wasn't just Sprint, T-Mobile US and AT&T had it too)
The network for sprint devices using; lineage-14.1-20171108-nightly-kltedv-signed is definitely better so far.
Sounds like you guys on sprint have some issues still ... I am running my g900p on att .... Works great i dont think i get full 4glte but i still average2-3 megs a second so its definitely not bad ... Fair trade off i guess.

I would imagine the LTE bands AT&T uses don't line up with Sprint's. I have similar issues on my G900F on T-Mobile, I frequently see H+/3G/E when I should have LTE.
As for Sprint issues, yeah, but it's a lot more manageable now. Most of the weird bugs/quirks are now just fixed by getting provisioning on stock, or a new sim card.
I always heard about what a PITA sprint was, and imagine it worked like crap then, but it's not too bad now. I still prefer T-Mobile, for various minor reasons,
but my hltespr on Tello (Sprint MVNO) makes a perfectly usable backup phone if anything goes wrong with my T-Mobile sim, and it wouldn't
really bother me to use it. That's pretty much my main goal: Make Sprint as usable as possible, so the user doesn't need to notice they're on Sprint.

Just to update, everything worked out well!
Upon replacing the old SIM with a new one, I still couldn't get past 3G. I flashed to stock CQD1 in Odin, updated the PRL and profile, ##72786# to reset, and still nothing.
After a few Google searches, a few forums suggested to call into Virgin Mobile to update the SIM's ICCID number, because this is the reason I couldn't get LTE; the ICCID didn't match the SIM card they had on file. Once done and after a final reboot back into stock, LTE success!
Flashed TWRP in Odin and restored a recent lineageOS backup, and LTE success!
Again, this board was very helpful, thanks!
Just ordered a new SIM card from Sprint. The old one showed as incompatible according to OP. I could only get 3G if I changed to CDMA/EVDO.. Hopefully the new one will allow me to run LOS 14.1 with access to LTE on TING. Thanks for the info.
@javelinanddart Hi, would you mind taking a look at this radio log from 15.1? I can't get LTE working under any circumstances. Well, If you come back to this, let me know if you need more logs. I'm going back to 14.1 for now, as the signal is really bad (Keeps switching between 1X and 3G).
Edit: 14.1 is now borked as well... Some relatively recent change must have killed it.
And here's a log from when 3G/EvDo craps out...
Sorry for the multi-post, but I just found my problem: The default APN settings for FreedomPop, the MVNO I use, are somehow wrong. So I deleted that APN and redid it with the following settings and was able to get LTE.
Name: FreedomPop LTE
APN: n.f6.ispsn
MMSC: http://mms.sprintpcs.com
MMS proxy: 68.28.31.7

MNC: 120

Sorry for the delay, I've been busy working on another device. I had the same issue (even though it worked fine before) on my hltespr. After a wipe, my LTE started working again too, which was really weird. I don't really want to investigate this, since it's working now.
