[Q] Battery Drain on every kernel/ROM combo - damaged battery? - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys
My battery life was great! about 30 hours, with 4 hours of screen time. I then switched ROMS kernels, and then troubles started.
As the title says, on any ROM/kernel combo on my W8 note 4 I get about 10 hours of battery life. This is with 1.5 hr of screen time. I've odined to stock about 20 times, trying various roms and kernel (including stock)s, and I only get about 10 hours, and this is with 8 of those hours on wifi.
Running amplify as well.
Damaged battery? Any other ideas?

Download an app called 'Battery Callibration'
U have to be rooted and:
1. Plug in your charget wait till it says fully charged.
2. Open the app and click Calibrate
3. Once it is done unplug the charger.
4. For best results: use your mobile heavily till it totally dies, then plug in it again and DKO NOT INTERRUPT THIS CHARGE RUN, till it is fully charged again (prob will take some time extra)
Now u r good and your battery is fine too

Assuming that didn't fix that problem what step would be next? Sleep battery usage is OK, while any time the phone is used with screen brightness on auto and interactive governer, battery plummets.

A solution of the battery problem in 2.3 (AOSP and CM7)

I have found a way to solve the problem with the battery in a few simple steps without erasing any battery stats or doing anything.
Firstly, install a Start-Up manager to control the apps wich are started after every boot. Leave only the important ones!
And now you have to recalibrate your battery, so
here is what you do:
1. Charge your phone to a 100% (that will take you about 3:00 hours)
2. Discharge the battery until the phone turns of by itself
3. Try turning the phone on until the battery dies completely and the phone doesn't start.
4.Take the battery of and then put it on.
5.Try to turn the phone on until the battery dies completely.
6.Now charge it up to 100% ( minimum 3:00 hours no matter that the phone says it's charged)
7.Ready! Now enjoy your amazing battery life!
Note: I recommend you to charge the phone for minimum 2:30 hours no matter if it says it's charged. Now, i charge mine for 3:00 hours wich is enough.
Here is one Start-Up manager. I use it.
how many days with wifi, gps and so on... ?
Well, before that I was unable to last for half a day. I had the same problem with all of SwiftDroid versions so I followed these steps and my battery life has increased dramatically up to 3-4 days !!!!!!
I use 2 hours wi-fi, 1 hours listening to music trough headphones and my brightenes is set to 40%.
Hope i helped you!
I see this post on all threads....;-)

Thats isnt a battery problem. After you take a call some google services are using the CPU with 100%. After ich kill the google services tasks the cpu goes down to 20%
NO. Before that procedure I restart my phone and don't talk with it and the battery drained ... And after that procedure I talk and there is no battery draining so it's not because that.
thanks gonna try it now
mine goes on for about 2 days, with SwiftDroid Milestone1 Version 2.0

if u rename system/bin/akmd2 (akmd2_backup) and reboot,
you get another 1-2 days, but lost compass and
accelerometer, this process permanently takes 1-5% of cpu, but there is no other solution
i try what i found on internet
adb shell
echo 250 /system/data
but not sure if something change, i also found some open alternative,
http://www.google.com/codesearch/p?hl=ru#eYOWr2vJSqE/akmd/Akmd.cpp&q=akmd&d=1
..it works very well for me after doing this.... i might even say it lasts a bit longer then on stock 2.1 with cpu tuner and settings ofc.....swiftdroid v2.0 M2...
There is a good application on the Market. BatteryCalibration
You need to have root. Extended my battery life for 1-2 days!
helps a little bit... but nothing like 2.1 stock
I'm on 2.1
Nothing helped. It is possible that battery just reduce its capacity? I dont want to install another android just to see how battery is there...
nah im fine atm. i always charge at night and my battery lasts till about 10 oclock, then it gets to 10%.
I've installed joes 2.3.2 without any battery-problems.
i'm running setcpu with 852max. -> did you set "on demand"? when setting to performance your phone will run out of battery within a few hours.
my battery life is around 2-3 days with AOSP 2.3.2 @ 852mhz max.
before with 2.1 @ quarxblackkernel @ 800mhz max. around 2 days

Battery calibration guide needed experts please

Hi to all i am facing massive drains in battery
My phone recharges in 1.5 hours completely.
But i dont think that this is reliable as if i use my ideos with automatic brightness and on demand 400-1000 franco kernel.i can play game for continously 1.5 hours maximum.
And on wifi its about 4 hours.
I think its battery calibration issue.
If any expert here make a guide to properly calibrate our batteries than we can get most out of them.
So experts please come one step ahead.

To calibrate the battery you have to charge the battery to 100% and leave charging after 100% for about 30 minutes. After the 30 min, reboot into CWM, go into advanced and select Wipe Battery Stats. Reboot the phone again.
You won't notice much of change initially, because you have to repeat this process at least 3-4 times. In about a week time, you'll see that battery will last twice as longer.
This may not work for everybody, but it DEFINITELY worked for me.
Just download this app, plug your phone to charger, when that app shows over 4200mV press "Battery Calibration" button and then use your battery to 0% and then charge it back to 100%.

Gonna try this. The first time I did it I didn't notice much but today my battery has surprised me greatly.
Do you also use something Juice Defender?
NO juice defender app! That's making things worse, in my opinion.

Weird Battery Behavior + S Pen Issue

Hello everyone, i just purchased a second hand Note 3 N9005. The phone was bought 1 year ago. Everything is fine except two things.
1) Battery: As soon as i charge the phone battery drops really quick down to 80%. For example it discharges 10%+ or more during night (wifi, mobile data off), if i use the phone it will drop to 80% in a matter of minutes. No obvious reason for the drain in my eyes. As soon as i hit 80% it starts to behave more normally. The more i discharge it the harder it gets to run down the battery ! Last night i was trying to fully discharge it. Battery was down to 1% and it took 45+ minutes of youtube playback to go from 1% to empty !!! Moreover at night if battery is under 80% with 7-8 hours of sleep it won't drop at all. As soon as i plug in the phone it goes from 0% to 15% instantly ! Then it charges normally.
Is this behavior normal ? I mean the no linear discharge. I've had LG G2 before and Nexus 4 and i didn't have this issue.
If this is not normal, is it most likely a damaged battery or could it be phone's fault/ inability to read the battery charge correct?
2) S-Pen. I have noticed that it needs some pressure to work. I've tried Note Pro 12.2 S Pen on the phone and it works with a lot less pressure. I've opened the pen and increased it's sensitivity it got better but still not as comfortable to use like the S-pen from the Note 12.2. Anyone else noticed this ?
Thanks in advance for your time

Yeah i have changed the tip. I even tried a tip from the Note 12.2 pen, same thing. I think it comes down to a sensitivity issue.

Yeah already done that ! No matter how much i increase the sensitivity it never feels the same as the Note 12.2 S Pen ....
Rockfreak I'm also having the same exact problem of the battery, my battery drains from 100% to 82% in less than 25 minutes after that its solwing down, there is a strange thing some certain percentage is hard to be drained easily as some time it takes 10 minutes to drain a certain percentage specifically i can't understand why but I believe for some reason the system is not reading the exact percentage and capacity of the battery.
However, although of the strange battery behavior I'm getting almost 5 and half an hour screen on time no matter how long I'm idle also i never close my 3g connection and it's always connected as H+.
Moreover, i tried to use battery calibration application that doesn't require root access (my N3 is not rooted) when the mobile is in the charger and fully charged notfication appears i restart the mobile without unplugging it from the adapter once it's boot i go to the batter application program and press calibrate then i unplug my mobile.
In this excact period of time i can notice a big difference in the battery behavior and it starts to drain almost normally, anyhow, I'm still getting the same excact screen on time which is around 5 to 5 and half hour, also as soons as the battery reaches 0% or 5% and i charge it again to 100% and get the battery full notification the misbehavior starts again.
I tried alot of things but unfortunately with no luck. So i decided that ignorance is a gift xD

Note 4 sudden battery drop

I bought a 1 year old note 4,it usually dies at 25% percent,it drops suddenly to 0 %.,after weeks of research i found it is caused by faulty battery so i bought a new battery now it dies at 10% to 0% in seconds and turns off,i flashed a kitkat rom now problem is solved but i want to be on lollipop due to UI changes, can any custom rom solves this? i've tried dr.ketan rom, same issue dies at 10%...

Probably caused by battery calibration. Just use your prior rom from 100% to when it shuts off a couple of times to retrain it.
If you use multiple batteries like I do, you'll never be able to calibrate, and will just have to live with this issue.

Well not entirely true. Ur battery have the chip that tells the system how much left the battery is. I often have those prob. But now is gone. I just charge until 100% let it 10min charged. Then use it until it off. (Really really off.) Like when the battery circuit stop the battery not the phone shutting down. After that charge until 100% and after 100% i let it charge for 1hour to make sure it really 100% . done
Same here after last update. From 10 to 0% in second
+1 here
Thats why I utterly I hate sw updates.
My Galaxy NOTE 4 SM-N910C
Same problem here ,, considering buying a new battery but afraid that the problem isn't from the battery and get the same drop again with the new on
my phone is 1 year old
i had the same problem, so what i did was to flash the Rulinglite ROM for my note 4 910 C. it works fine now.
Hey guys, I got the same problem. Sometimes it drops from 15% to 4% in a few minutes and then from 4% to 1% in another few minutes (without using phone ofc).
Also, when i charge my phone - it shows me 100%, but when i reboot it - i got like 94%. Few minutes later - again 100%. After reboot - 95%.. etc etc etc... (charger is pluged on for all this time)
Do you have this problem?

Same problem here
my problem is that the battery percents are getting lower ery fast..if i make some actions that require more battery and i have 20% of battery, the percent goes to 16 so quickly and then the phone hangs up. I turn it on, it shows lesss battery, then it hangs up again and i need do recharge the battery. I bounght the phone at 2nd hand, i noticed the battery issue since i was testing it, but i love the phone. i am affraid not to be a hardware problem with one of the internal components of the phone, that killed the battery...i tested the battery on Note 3 and i am sure that the battery has a problem. What if i buy a new battery and a malfunctioning component of the phone damages the new battery too?
For me: i will dial *#0228# press quick start and wait till phone lids up connect charger and charge until 100% and then dont unplug first leave it there for 30mins or more and then unplug. ( do not unplug it halfway )
Second i switch off my phone take out battery and wait around 3 mins and then put back in and start charging it to 100% without switching device on, also same thing leave for sometime before unplug when it reaches 100%. you can also switch on after 100% and wait for sometime. ( as booting phone drains battery too )
hope it helps
Bought a new battery still drains at 10percent exactly, thought it's a lollipop issue, but even in MM it exactly shuts off at 10%.

Moto G4 battery dies extremely fast

Yesterday, my battery was running perfectly fine. Today, the battery goes for about 10 minutes on screen time. Getting it charged from 10% to 100% is very quick, maybe takes about 10 minutes. But going from 100%, it can discharge at about 5% per minute, regardless if im using it or not. When I was at 70%, i tried to restart my phone to see if it would fix it, but when It was going to turn back on, i was greeted with the low battery sign, signaling that the phone wasn't able to turn on. 70% = No Battery? Battery drains by 2% per minute when screen is off.
I'm running Lineage OS 14.1 official rom with magisk. Please help.
GSam Battery Monitor Says that 60% of battery is consumed by "Kernel (Android OS)"
Many times i have watched my battery go down multiple percent in a matter of a second its really scary

Your phone needs to re calibrate the battery. This is probably the bit I like the least about these phones. Near as I can tell the best method is to let it drain till dead - then plug in with your charger and leave for several hours. Power on while phone is still plugged in - let it continue charging another hour.
Use normally. You may need to repeat this a few times.

I've done that about 4 times. It didn't really make a difference... then I used a battery callibration app from the play store which didn't even require a full battery drain or charge and it worked very well... weird.
