Help with SHV-E330L with flashing to custom rom - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I've been reading lot of post however it's not that clear weather I can install the custom rom or not.
Reason why I want to change to custom rom is to Remove SMS Limit cause it is set to 160 characters and also I want to remove
the Korean apps on the phone.
Here are the details of my phone.
I already did ROOT the phone and got the super su icon on my phone.
Android Version 4.4.2
Baseband Version E330LKLUCNG5
Build number KOT49H.E330LKLUCNJ1
can someone please tell me what do I need to do next to remove the sms limit, I mean do I need to flash a custom rom and if I need to can someone please provide me what I need like the clockwork thingy that I've been reading and also which rom is applicable on the current details of my phone..
Please help I don't want to brick my phone..

To have the latest and greatest, or one that fits your needs better then what your service provider thinks your needs are.

No worries man, welcome to the community Chances are however you may end up with a few 'Just search!!' answers but I understand there is almost too much info to understand out there but do check out the sticky threads at the top of the HD2 rom development forum as there is a wealth of detail there.
In answer to your question: 'why would anyone want to mod the rom or mess with it? please kindly answer it.'
There are many reasons for doing this, I assume that you come from the 'HTC probably know whats best for their phone as they made it' point of view, this is not always the case.
Let's take a real simple example: There is a limited ammount of space in internal memory and the more you can get the better and some of this space is taken up by pre-installed applications and images that you may never use and some of these can't be removed simply by deleting.
This is where 'cooking' roms comes in: In order to remove those apps you have to create a new OS image (rom) without them in (this is cooking, which is generally performed by experienced people who will publish their roms in the roms forum) and then to be able to get that on your device you need to 'flash' the cooked rom (OS image) onto your device (think of flashing as installing the OS like you would windows from CD on a PC) , and viola you have a new rom on your phone which leaves you more space in internal memory to use for yourself.
There are obviously far more complex reasons for cooking roms (speed improvements, fixes, mods and changes to the UI) but in order to keep this short and simple I've used the above example. If you want to know more check the noob tutorials in the rom forum.
Be careful however, and ensure you read all the information you can search for / find in there as there are some potential pitfalls if you don't do it properly.
Thanks prime! I got it now :]

Need some clarifications!

Hi, I need some clarifications as the topic says..
I want to install:
this
and
SPB Mobile Shell 3.5 (btw, can someone give me a link to the download?)
I've installed SPB 3.5 before and therefore I know that it doesn't delete any old things like the standard HTC Topaz ROM. So SPB wasn't really a question, but I wonder how this HSPL works. I've read the guide but I don't get it, how does it work. Can someone explain more specific. I want to try out some ROM without deleting my custom ROM from HTC (WM 6.5 Pro).
Then, will the sms-layout work together with SPB 3.5?
And as it says in the install-description, you have to disable and enable stuff. And that will change my system.. so it doesn't feel right to install it before I have a backup on my phone - if something goes wrong.
So shortly, how do I backup my whole system (ROM, files, settings)? And how do I reinstall my backup? (don't forget to also explain how the HSPL works)
Thx for reply!

- How to recover/reinstall the stock ROM?

Hi,
You should use search. It really helps
" i want install ...this". So, what stopping you. Download, install, if dont like uninstall.
SPB MS3.5. SPB.com site or google.
HardSPL is changes the Bootloader so you can install a different ROM regardless if it's signed.
And you can not have 2 ROMs at the same time.
If you want try custom ROMs you will have to install Hard SPL. Without it you can upgrade only with HTC ROMs.
About dumping and rebuilding. Use wiki page about Topaz. Everything you need is there.
Good luck with flashing,

sry, but I can't find anything useful :S can't you give me some links, to backup stock rom and reinstall it?
when I watched the videoguides of XperiaX1 it was so simple... you could find your stock ROM in a sticky in your phones part of the forum. And also not just the stock rom for uk, but also a swedish stock rom. And when you downloaded that. You simply copied the file to your microSD root direction and went to the bootloader and poff you got the original ROM. So, plz get me some direct links to this

Info on all available stock ROMs is only a search away and then the flash procedure is as you mention. So you have all the details you need to experiment to your hearts content.

[Q] Some questions about rooting HTC Wildfire ?

Hi,
I have bought a brand new HTC Wildfire and am awaiting for it to be delivered. It is on Vodafone (uk).
I would like to root my phone when i get it and would appreciate your time if you could help answer some questions i have.
1) If i root my phone can i revert back if i want to? by this i mean go back to the Vodafone default, sorry don't know what they call it, basically so it's back with Vodafones custom android or whatever it is they call it.
2) I guess i will loose everything on the phone like apps etc? can i backup everything before hand?
3) I would like Android 2.2 which i believe is the latest version, by rooting the phone how would i go about then updating to Android 2.2? would i just need to check for updates from the HTC website or something?
4) I here about all these custom roms, can someone explain what these custom roms are? are they modified versions of android or something?
5) If i am able to update to Android 2.2 does that mean i can install apps on the sd card to save the memory in the phone as this would really benefit me?
6) Do i need to root the phone to install Android 2.2 on it?
Maybe i don't need to root the phone to get Android 2.2, if not does anyone have a guide on how i can do this please?
Thanks for any help and sorry if these questions have been answered before.
I did read the UnRevoked Guide which has explained things a bit and sounds the easiest way and red all the replies to.
Thanks
MR
1) Yes. You do this by finding the relevant RUU on the internet and then flashing it to your phone.
2) Rooting does not make you lose any of your apps, it just gives you more access to your phone in a way. When you install a custom ROM you can use a program like Titanium Backup to backup all your apps. Also you make a Nandroid backup of your phone that you can recover in case something goes wrong.
3) Over the air (OTA) updates of Android 2.2 will be coming before Christmas it is thought so if that is all you want you could wait. There are a few different 2.2 based ROMs available on this forum if you look through the threads. This thread lists the different ROMs with links to each thread and there are some links to guides as well. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822181
4) The custom ROMs are community modified versions of Android that provide something different to the stock ROM. Some of them have HTC Sense, some of them are the standard Android interface. Which one you choose all depends on what you want out of your phone. See the link above for more info.
5) Yes a feature of Android 2.2 is apps2SD. This is available in the custom ROMs.
6) If you don't want to root your phone then you can wait for the OTA update of 2.2 from Vodafone. If you don't want to wait then you will have to root your phone.
I believe those answers to your questions are correct although you could be better waiting for a more experienced member to reply. I suggest you read as much as you can about rooting and installing custom ROMs so you can make sure you are making the right decision and that you know what you are doing.
You need to be aware that rooting your phone will void your warranty.
Hi,
Thanks for replying, this has really helped answering my questions
Thanks

[Q] Extracting ROM from a phone

Is it possible to extract the ROM of android HTC DZ ?
if yes,
- does it have to be rooted ?
- Can I flash it on another phone (same model) ?
Not exactly clear what you are trying to do. Are you trying to migrate an exact image of your current phone (with settings, data, etc) to another phone?
Here is what am trying to do:
My phone does not have Arabic since I bought it from the UK and my friends here have the Middle East version which contains Arabic. HTC refuses to install the Arabic on phones with IMEI not for the Middle East so I was thinking if I can take a copy from another ME phone.
Is it clear ?
why dont you just download more locale 2 from the market and add arabic language
i think youre gonna save a LOT of time ; )

Android 2.2 does not support Arabic and so there is no such thing as Arabic language in Market.
Android 2.2 displays Arabic letters but from left to right and not connected. HTC added layer to support correct RTL script and this is what am looking for
It might save you the hassle or create more, but there is an Arabic rom posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=933961

Thanks for the help, this is great except for one thing; it is Android 2.2 while my phone currently is running on 2.2.1 so it is a sort of going back
Similar to above suggestions, I think what you want to do if flash either a custom ROM, or an official ROM, which supports Arabic. Either way, you'll need to be rooted, plus S-Off and SuperCID. This would be easier than doing a ROM dump from your friends phone (and you would still need to be rooted to flash that).

My problem was not finding official Arabic ROM (now found) and almost all custom ROMs do not include Arabic support. I am proceeding with rooting
I flashed the thing on my mobile, it has 1.83 firmware which removed my root. Now am downgrading the f/w again
Here you can find a lot of stock ROMs

[Q] Reinstall custom ROM after stock ROM install

Hello there, and first of all excuse my english, I'll try to explain my question as best as I can
I have an htc Surround running a custom ROM (the phone was already running an old DFT ROM when I got my hands on it), after some research I am still doubting if flashing my phone with a stock ROM can lock something making it unable to reinstall the current Custom ROM on my phone.
It's just a simple question, but can't find any clear info about that, so I am asking as my last resource, I don't want to lock the bootloader or something like that.
My plan is to install a stock ROM, then upgrade it step-by-step to 7.8 using the Seven-Eighter tool, and if anything goes wrong or I don't like it, reinstall the custom ROM from always using the RUU I have on my hard disk
If need to post some info about my phone feel free to ask about it.
Regards and thanks for reading!
Hi, it's me again
Reading more I find this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195647
looks like I should lose my HSPL (as I refer to bootloader in my previous post) if I flash using a stock ROM using the RUU from NODO.
Someone correct me if I am wrong.
Regards
