1. Try to flash via ODIN this ONE. Your device is using Hong Kong (TGY) and I think you can't flash european firmwares on it.
2. Install this APP and add screenshots if you can't.

Install Kies (v3). Go in Kies to recovery mode. Post more details after that if you want more answers.
The much better alternative would have been if you knew your original firmware - that way you could have downloaded it from a place like
http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SM-N9005
and try to write it in Odin.

It has to be a Kitkat rom as you will now have the KK Bootloader... No more JB for you.... Not unless you like to have a phone that hangs on the Samsung screen....

Hello everyone,
I hate to be the person that joins a forum with an immediate question without having contributed anything previously, but here it goes: looking for some advice from experts on this one. I have an AT&T Galaxy S4 i337 that I recently updated to KitKat 4.4.2 - worst mistake I've ever made, not only do I have constant problems getting GPS locks now, perhaps the most aggravating issue is slow charging. It can take upwards of 7 hours to charge to 100% and I've tried everything including new cable and new battery. The phone can be plugged in and charging and still discharge until it dies. This issue surfaced immediately after I updated and, based on other information I've seen on XDA and other forums, it seems entirely probable this is a software issue since a lot of people seem to have the same problem. Plus, I'm getting tired of TouchWiz.
So I've decided to go towards SlimKat custom ROM hopefully to rectify some of these issues. However, I've had major problems at every step especially being on 4.4.2 (and what I believe is the newer firmware MF3?). Here is a summary of what I've done:
1) Tried rooting the phone through the XDA tutorial on this subforum where you use Motochopper, CF root and all of that, I forget the exact issue but it never worked. I tried for quite a long time.
2) I finally got the device rooted through Towelroot, which I had suspicions about because it was so easy and quick, but after installing SuperSU and RootChecker it's working like a charm!
3) Installed TWRP without success through GooManager... it would download and hang or say successfully installed but wouldn't ever boot into recovery.
4) Tried installing SafeStrap and as soon as I downloaded the lastest version and tried to install it from the app/GUI it would say install successful but the state would be listed as Not Installed
5) Moved onto ClockWorkMod which I had success with in the past on my Samsung Vibrant and CyanogenMod several years ago. I tried flashing recovery from the app and while it says it's sucessfully installed, once again I boot into recovery and I get an blue Andriod for a split second then a dead looking Andriod with a No Command error given. It boots into stock recovery, and it has the custom unlock logo under the samsung POST (or bootup) screen but won't launch ClockWorkMod.
So that brings me to where I am at now. I got the latest GS4 drivers from Samsung, made sure Kies was not installed, went through countless processes/cables USB ports (made sure they weren't hubs obviously) and I keep getting the same error when I try flashing ClockWorkMod for the i337 right from Odin3. I get:

I know the Galaxy S4 i337 from AT&T especially with KitKat 4.4 is notoriously hard to root but I'm on my last nerve with this phone, I wouldn't be so frustrated if the stock OS didn't have so many issues with the update. When in Odin, I tried getting an SGH-i337 16GB PIT file and still got an error so that's not working either. No idea where to go from now, and sick and tired of waiting for AT&T, Google, and Samsung to come out with a fix and network-pushed update.
Please help!!! :fingers-crossed:

SGH-i337 has a locked bootloader. That prevents us from replacing the stock kernel and recovery. The only working recovery we have is safestrap.
The bootloader also prevents a downgrade unless the versions are compatible. NB1 and NC1 are compatible and so you should be able to flash the stock NB1 firmware using Odin.
Since you have root already, you can install safestrap after setting SELinux to permissive mode. Use the selinuxmodechanger app from play store for that.
All things AT&T thread.
So I would have to downgrade to compatible NB1 using ODIN (once I do the step you described) and then from there could I flash a custom ROM such as SlimKat? Would safestrap work in NB1 even though it doesn't work in the current firmware?

Since you successfully rooted with towel root, I guess your firmware is NC1.
You do not need to downgrade to NB1. Your safestrap version should be 3.72. Are you sure your safestrap is not working. To go to the safestrap you simply restart your phone. You do not need to go the recovery mode.
You have locked bootloader so you can not use the custom kernel or AOSP rom like Slimkat. You can only use the TOUCHWIZ roms.

Ok,following instructions here: www.androidrootz.com/2014/03/how-to-unrootunbrick-at-galaxy-s4-sgh.html?m=1
Internet is really slow, 1mbps, so started 2.2gb file download and will try it when it finishes downloading, probably tomorrow. Going to post here if it works. Well, July 4th, going to do fireworks later on. Happy Independence day for all of you in U.S!

Remember what I already mentioned. Since you are on NC1, you can only flash NB1 (as they are compatible and we dont have a full NC1 tar file). You cannot flash MK2.

Ah okay understood, thanks for linking me to that thread I will look through those Touchwiz based roms. I was hoping to go to a Google Play Edition ROM too but from what I'm reading a lot of things don't work on it.
Thanks again everyone for your knowledge and advice. In reality do you think flashing a custom Touchwiz based ROM will address my issues or should I just downgrade to NB1? And is there REALLY no way to unlock the S4 bootloader on GSM devices? I thought someone did it on a CDMA version recently.
UPDATE: I should have reread the first post, after installing SELinuxModeChanger and setting it to permissive, I was able to get SafeStrap to install and boot properly.
You need to have selinux in permissive mode. Use selinuxmodechanger app for that.

Yeah with the combination of TowelRoot, SELinuxModeChanger, and SafeStrap I now have a rooted phone with a recovery installed, what ROMs do you guys recommend that are TouchWiz based for the i337 NC1? I'm looking through the list and not seeing much.

All the ROMs listed in the all things at thread will work.
Yeah, with hesitation I ended up going with a Google Play Edition ROM to get rid of touchwiz and man did it work well, my only minor annoyances are wifi (as was warned) and the face that MMS pictures are compressed WAY too much when I send them. The charging issue got marginally better but the battery lasts a lot longer without bloatware and the interface is super sleek.

Every time you reboot the phone, you will lose WiFi. You can recover it by soft rebooting the phone.

Hi everyone.
I stuck while installing Dr.Ketan ROM on my N9000Q, which is descriebed on this web site. And I need a help about this issue.
First I updated my N9000Q to Android 5.0 Lolipop using Russia Rom ( I downloaded it from SamMobile) and now it seems like N900 in about section in phone.
After this update, I used it for a while, but now i want to insall a custom rom. But when i try to install CWM/TWRP or try to root it using Odin, I get the error message "NAND Write Start!! FAIL!!" I used different version of recovery files like "n900-cwm-recovery-6.0.4.4(1009)" , "n900-cwm-recovery-6.0.4.7-kk(0125)" , "n900-cwm-recovery-6.0.5.0-kk_L5.0(0812)" , "openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.7-ha3g.img.tar" or root file "CF-Auto-Root-ha3g-ha3gxx-smn900.tar.md5". and also tried them with many different Odin version, like 1.85 up to 3.10.6.
Everytime I have tried, I got same error message. Did I something wrong, or what should I do?
Can anyone help me about this problem???

It's normal that you are stuck if you don't know what device you are using. Do you own a N900 or N9000Q? Coz they are different phones. For root it ofc too:
1. CF-Auto Root for N900.
or
2. CF- Auto Root for N9000Q.

Thanks for your reply. I m trying your root files soon. but as i said in my #1 Message, I have a n9000q (Turkey version) but after i install Russia Stock Rom (and also Ukrain Stock Rom), It is written in version section in phone as "N900". That's why i try to install N900 root files. and also there is many threads that n900 and n9000q are same specification so that we can install both n900 root files.
Thanks again and again for your helping. But after your reply i have another question in my mind, that i can install Dr.Ketar Rom for n900 into my phone or not. I have doubt because i could already install n900 Ukrain and Russian Stock Roms.
Edit 1: I just tried to root with 2nd files too. but i cant root either and I got same error message.

That you can install custom roms doesn't mean that will work on your device. You receive NAND error in ODIN for that too.
*COUNCIL: I will flash the stock ROM and will root with this file via ODIN too if I was you and DONE!.
did anyone try to comeback (910C)lolipop (new poland stock rom COJ5) to kitkat (4.4.4) via odin
in Turkish forum some guy tried to comeback ,but he did not success it.I told him what I know about this.
he also used 4 parts rom and pit files ,one part rom and pit files, firstly try to kitkat bootloader via odin etc.etc but he said no,no,no
some guys are saying, now samsung has prevent to return kitkat from COJ5 ,is that true or not
we need alternatives way
hi,still no any idea
guys,I thing samsung putted a bootloader lock to return to kitkat even 5.0.1.
I tried to both of them ,but result no succesed it. that is way ,whom want to return to comeback to kitkat and 5.0.1 bootloader ,they will meet this lock. maybe you want to use miui rom like me .what will I do
I bought a new Note 4 N910G Indian version with LP 5.01. Loaded a custom Rom, Dr.Ketan ROM 5.0.1 after rooting. Got Xposed working but still didnt like it. I then downgraded to Stock Kitkat 4.4.4 from Sammobile site with ODIN. Rooted after loading TWRP again. (Root got disabled on downgrading so had to reroot SuperSu). Loaded Xposed. Everything working smoothly. Only one issue is Lockscreen Widgets which even Xposed is not able to bypass when the phone has PIN or Pattern lock but very happy now. Quite similar to my JB Note 3 N9005 which is what I wanted.
pelase help, any idea, suggestion,etc.
what should I do ,what can I do
i tried 5.0.1 but then came back to ANK3 4.4.4 Kitkat via ODIn with no problem. Nothing still beat the Xposed on Kitkat. One thing I am looking forward to is more options of 4.4.4 kernel. I can only see 1 kernel for kitkat which is KT kernel. Hopefully some more kernel for Note 4 Kitkat OS will be available.

Did you do all the steps properly?
I started off by doing a complete Reset and Format in TWRP. Wiped everything including External SD card.
So maybe you should do that first. But backup any important data on some external storage not connected to the phone. Most important : Make sure you are using the correct stock Kitkat ROM version for your model from Sammobile site.
Follow the instructions on Sammobile's firmware download page, and you should be back to stock Kitkat 4.4.4 soon.

Dont know why you are fiddling with PIT. Not required to touch it at all. As far as I know 5.1.1 to KK is quite possible, just as mine I successfully downgraded from 5.0.1 to KK.
Once you wipe everything and format SD card as well, and start with a clean slate, it should work through ODIN. Try with another version of ODIN maybe? Dont touch PIT section at all.

try to search for custom ROM with the same bootloader that you are using right now, your official bootloader will not let you flash any older bootloader thats why you cant flash anything under 5.1.1.,
i suggest try flashing the latest wanam
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/development/rom-wanamlite-clean-odex-xposed-t2923266
if you successfully flash the wanam then try to flash the stock kitkat again

Hi. I'm having some trouble when I tried to flash my Note 3 with CM13 but it seems like can't associate with gapps because it will crash. My note 3 is currently on CM13 but without any gapps. I decided to flash it back to original stock rom but ODIN fail.
it says:

I don't know what to right now. Help me. TQ

Another copy of STOCK ROM?
Yes and odin
Sent from my GT-N8013 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Odin is failing when trying to flash the bootloader (aboot.mbn) so either the rom isn't for the phone or the bootloader is too old.

Already try another copy of Stock ROM. But it keeps failing. So how to solve the out of dated bootloader?

This happened to me after using CM ROMs on my old GN1 : hard to recover to stock...
This also happened with my GN3 with stock dutch firmware. Don't know the reasons... ^^
Try to flash a N9005XXUGN1 or N9005XXUEND3 kk firmwares (not dutch) to downgrade first to KK, then you could try upgrading to any other Lollipop firmwares...
Seems to me it's impossible to change or upgrading from Lollipop to another Lollipop. I always had to downgrade first to KK before upgrading to Lollipop so if you used CM13 it should be a bigger problem...
PS : BTW watch at your CM13 settings if a OEM unlock option is activated or de-activated...

Will try to download the KK ROM since the file is too big. But then where to find the OEM unlock option?
Isn't the oem unlock option available on the nexus 5x and 6p?
Try take out your battery 1st, then use 3 button combination to go to download mode.
Also try another usb cable as well..
I have never seen the oem unlock option on a cm rom. Doesn't the oem unlock relate to the bootloader? The n9005 has never had a locked bootloader.
With a locked bootloader, cwm, twrp, and ROMs not based on a Samsung kernel could never be flashed to the phone.
The inability to cross flash firmware is due to security checks built into the bootloader to ensure that the ROMs being flashed via Odin is made for the particular phone and not because it is locked. Think of it more as a safety feature.
In some of the Samsung phones, older firmware can't be flashed as the bootloader on the phone cannot be downgraded.

Try the Sprint forum .
What is the exact model # of the phone shown in download mode? Was the phone new or used when you got it?
