This problem driving me crazy , I'm gonna sell this phone becouse of it , the recent apps button takes 2-4 secound before it open I've done everything , flashed every rom but no luck , disabled talkback , svoice ,and everything I've search efter with no luck , the only solutions that helped was CM12.1 it takes 0.01 second and it opens it but with lollipop damn Samsung this is the last note I'm going to buy !! :/
common problem..i still havent changed this phone because im waiting for the note 5..hope they fix it and keep the sd card and removal battery
I guess not all experience your problem.
My recent apps open in less than a second, with almost 20 apps showing.
Running on lollipop boe4 stock.
Sent from my SM-N910G
Same problem here. The recent apps button is much too laggy. The same goes for switching from the camera to your actual photo.
Perhaps the reason for the lag is that a long press is mapped to the menu command so the phone waits a while to determine it's not a long press before it executes the short press command. I'll be interested to know if the S6 devices have the same lag.

im using both. s6 has this lag and it happens randomly on s6 too. if you dont use multitasking button long time and opened too many apps both phone can lag. s6 is better on this compared to note 4 but its still there. but i should add i never saw 4 sec delay like op mentioned 1 sec probably worst scenario for me.
Up to 2 or 3 seconds on my Note 4, I'd say.
Flash Glamour S6 Port for Note 4. Delay is similiar to S6 so it means much better than on Note 4 (0.5 - 1 sec). Can confirm that it is very fast.

the lag in the "recents" menu is because of the incredible mess samsung created in SystemUI.apk,
that's why the lag keeps returning, unless you open it a lot and clear everything out all the time
SystemUI has loads of smali files with checks and links that send all kinds of commands all over the phone,
so it's also as good as impossible for the developers here to fix it....the only ones that CAN fix it...are the ones that work at samsung.
hopefully in 5.1.1 it'll be permanently fixed since it's already massively improved in the s6 edge firmwares.

that "fix" does nothing
i don't have all that stuff in my roms and the lag remains.
decompile SystemUI.apk and look at the huge smali files....that's the problem, and nothing else
You will understand the lag , try open logcat and press the recent app, it sending millions of commands for just to open the recent app , it insane .
But the problem fixed by installing CM12.1 it so much faster and cleaner , but the downside you lose spen function but otherwise it so fast that I'm going to keep it as by daily driver

If CM12 was available for the N910U, I'd likely be using it. On my Note 2, it runs really well - multitasking puts my note 4 to shame

For my experience of coming from ICS to this new official JB release I9300XXDLJ4 BTU.
I liked to see this phone being up-to-date on latest OS and getting better performance (Keep the good work up, Samsung!), but there are still bugs and issue that are found in this rom.
Which bug/issue annoy you the most? and wish to get fix in the next update by Samsung?
1) Lag on opening Contact and Dialer - It is more noticeable in JB, since all other apps open faster but not these two which should get speed up or keep in memory.
2) Multi-task with games and apps - when open 1 game and then play another game at the same time it will close and reload the 1st game from the beginning no matter how many free memory you have. Not cool at all. [Fix: bestMultiTaskingFix 5 by mattiadj read this]
3) Wake up from home button problem - On screen turned off, when press the home button instead of going back to your active apps you use before screen off, it go to home screen. This is very annoying and it affect everyday use. [Fix: No wipe need. Go to Application List -> S-Voice ->Settings -> Keep "Open via the home key" ticked. ]
4) Slow wifi problem - The wifi speed is found to be slower in JB compared to ICS.
5) Gallery full screen problem - There is a black bar on top of Gallery's photo in full screen mode.
6) Battery drain - Some user have report battery drain on JB. It could be likely that it need a full charge after flash to get correct battery level. Some user report flash + full wipe could solve it. I will spend a few more days on test.

Please post any issue you have experienced or workaround you have found useful on JB rom.
My findings with all this
1) I don't notice
2) I loaded up dead trigger & riptide gp, both restart from the point I left them. No idea what I'm doing differently.
3) Not affected by that
4) See 3
5) I don't think it's a bug, maybe a feature of the gallery
Definitely multitasking...

None of those. I would like copy and paste to understand the gaps inbetween sentences and paragraphs ideally don't need removing when copying large bodies of text. It was the same in ICS and I can't believe it's the same with stock JB.

Can you explain more what problem you have on battery drain? I only have used a few days.
What battery drain? No problems here...
This thread is making me yawn...
Thanks for quoting me! Glad to see that people are taking these problems seriously!
I recently wiped my phone in order to test whether that made a difference. None, unfortunately! I'm a heavy phone user and I notice the little things. I have seen people here saying that multitasking works. YES, it does but with apps!!! Apps resume their state, most games do not! The same games used to resume their state on ICS but they don't on Jellybean. Also, Android System keeps consuming a LOT of my battery. I've got the same setup and the same games/apps on JB as I had on ICS. There's a huge difference! It's quite annoying.
Another thing they need to fix is they need to give the Video Player its own brightness controls. I know that the system controls are just a swipe away but why take away a good feature, Samsung?

It feel that it need to list all the bugs here, this help people finding/raising the solution of the same problem. One day, it could be all solved.
For the battery drain, I am waiting for more of battery stats.
Brightness controls on video player could well be another motion as an option. That would be a good feature to show off.
ok, so few days ago I updated my note to official samsung ota jb release. After updating I did not see much improvement, apps open/close faster, not sure if they actually do or is it just faster animation then there is some blocking mode in the settings which is like a new feature, also virtual keyboard is easier to move around the screen, so this is the good stuff, now the bad.
I have haptic feedback off or I HAD, now everytime time I move icons tablet vibrates, also when shutting down. How do I completely swith it off? also notifications, I have spen detection swithed off, now everytime I remove spen the ugly notification appears informing me i just removed spen and stays in the notifications menu... unnesesary and a waste of screen space?
The notification menu is a mess now, it can now scroll up and down
also when shutting down ugly message appears telling me the tablet is shuting down
also had to download from internet and install additional keyboard language, when previously just had to set it in options and that was all
is it possible to bring back the old look and feel while keeping the new features(the butter thingy and a new keyboard)?

No. And a lot of the changes you're referencing are between Android 4.0.4 and 4.1 and have nothing to do with Samsung's implementation of JB. Some features are changed in the OS, Samsung's apps (EG: S Note, the Gallery), and the behavior of some functions, settings, and apps are different too. ICS to JB on the Note was a big overhaul so I wouldn't expect another one during the Note's lifespan; future changes are likely to be simple tweaks. So things that are gone are gone and things we have aren't likely to change significantly. If you want ICS back search on "Odin" and follow the instructions.
Cant I do a factory reset? or my original firmware is no more?

When you update the new s/w becomes your recovery so if you reset it'll still be JB. You can download the ICS version for your region from Samsung-Updates or Samfirmware and install it via Odin.
Reads as a bad update to me unless JB is a special firmware for you .
Wipe phone and as said flash stock rom .
Or contact Samsung service centre .

Its not that a tablet is unusable, everything works fine, its because with ics it was all nice and tidy and now with jb its annoying with its excesive notifications. To me it feels a bit like a step back.

Do what I did, buy an extra pen and a case that will hold it. Make sure that power saving for pen is disabled,
Use the new pen and leave the old on in it's slot. Since you don't remove it, then it doesn't notify, but all works with the new one
Ive got the case already, but the extra pen idea is sweet, also because the original pen while works well feels a bit cheap and plastic(also too small and too thin and has no eraser).
What pen did you buy?
I have noticed much of a change myself
ok so another thing I just noticed, when opening youtube links in opera (my current browser, also useragent set to desktop) youtube app launches and it tries to display the vid and in case with several music vids Ive just tried it gives me a message saying that user has not made this vid available for mobile users or smth like that. now wtf is this bullcrap? this has never happened while i was on ics and also the same vids used to work both in the browser and in youtube app. now I am seriously considering a downgrade
Ive disabled youtube app and now when opening a link I get a message that no application is available to open it (and then opera still opens it). I guess I need to change file association thing (which app opens which files so basicly disable youtube app opening links) does anyone know how to do that?
edit: also youtube playback stops when switching to other tab
So I have decided to downgrade, now just have to find original firmware and Iam set.

You need to "Clear defaults" in each app that you want Android to forget the associations you set.

A couple of people have voiced issues with some of the changes in JB. I share your view; so much is improved that some of Samsung's changes to apps and functions are really minor in comparison. But, look at it this way, some people won't touch a device with an overlay while others swear by them. Different strokes.
You misunderstand, I like updates and I like new things, what I dont like is when features are removed, when I am forced to you use apps which I dont want to use or which dont work (youtube example, alot of music vids are restricted in the app while working perfectly in the browser, haptic feedback, I have it switched off yet the tablet still vibrates when shutting down or when the icons are being rearanged, ok fine but why there isnt a festure to COMPLETELY disable haptic feedback), when completely useless things are added (stupid and more importantly unnecesary notifications eg shutting down, spen removed...)
so yeah bring new and updated firmware not a steaming pile of crap
btw the "clear default" method doesnt work

You realize that a large portion of the forum has been on JB since November. There have been very few issues and pages of threads discussing the benefits of the new features. If what you're reporting as problems were affecting a lot of people there would have been more posts about them. Frankly, I don't really understand what most of your problems are based on the way you described them. I haven't had any YouTube issues since updating to JB in November and don't remember seeing any reported. So in describing the update as a "streaming pile of crap" you're kind of on your on in feeling that way.

It clears app association so it does "work." If it doesn't fix your problem that's another thing. You might want to try a hard reset and start from scratch.

I hated jellybean on my galaxy tab 2 7.0. But they did a awesome job of tweaking it for Note 10.1. I get serious battery life. Barely notice jellybean being on it. This tablet is fast and smooth. I love premium suite. I would wipe partition and user data and start again.
s pen
Go into settings and down to s pen, in that menu is an option that says something like change what option when s pen is removed... change it to "nothing"

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF THIS ANDROID 7 ON Z3+.
Advantages..
1. Battery is lasting more than MM.
2. Stamina mode comes with 3 level stamina features.
3. Split Screen Apps are awesome.
4. Heating is less, I think they avhieved that by closing the background apps.
5.Camera app doesnt heatup the phone and lasts open till 5 min( I checked for 5 minutes only may be it ll show heating warning after that, I just dont know about it).
6. Now both the wallpaper and lockscreen can be handled easily with the same option WALLPAPER provided at SETTING app.
Disadvantages.
1. The Icons for the apps CONTACTS, MESSAGING, PHONE, CAMERA are so ugly.
2. One cannot go to the homepage by clicking recent navbar and then by clicking at the clear space of the recent apps menu.
3. While phone is locked the phone doesnt react to double tap unlock like it used to be in MM.
4. While the phone is locked the Icons of battery, network, clock etc are placed slightly lower than the Icons placed in the unlocked screen. LOCKING UNLOCKING CREATES AN UGLY LOOK OF MISPLACEMENT OF THESE ICONS.
5. The Battery icon in the status bar is too weird. ( Doesnt like it look).
6. The Data traffic indicator ( the small arrows up and down are way too small, the indicator which shows below 2g, 3g, H+ and LTE on the status bar)
7. They removed the option of selecting the FOCUS MODE in the camera app.
8. I compared the pictures taken by my phone when its in LP, MM AND N, I must say in LP this phone used to capture photos brilliantly, in MM the pics are somewhat lower than LP. But in N the pics quality are not upto marks. I think thats all because of this focus thing. Now the phone focus the way it wants to).
9. Remove/ Quit apps wisely, I am downloading some apps from UC BROWSER and then I exit the app and keep the downloading in the background but when I cleared the app from the recent apps list just to make my recent app section to look empty, it stopped my downloading too and the APP UC BROWSER was completely shut. (This option is in LP TOO BUT NOT IN MM) So close apps wisely.
11. They abandoned the small apps, Yes they are there but not easily accessible, now accessing small apps are quit pain in the ASS.
12. The apps in the Recent apps looks very big.
13. New quick tiles are good but one cannot direct shut data from there.
Thats all dear Fellas, I like the UI OF MM more than this N.
I THINK SONY JUST BAKED THIS N FOR US IN HURRY.
If I missed anything than please guys you can add that on your comments.
I really think the Android N update is very good for this device. Camera quality has improved in N - try some low light shots - noise is much lower. The UI is very fluid.
For my device not update notice for now...but I see that in Russia update is out in these days...
So, for now I can't comment about N on my Z3+...but thank you very much for this thread...I hope more users tell opinions about this new update...
I would like to learn more about:
- camera is more fast or not, compared to MM? About picture quality seems the two different opinions are contrary..so, other user opinion about camera?
- N as it looks in terms of reactivity on our device?
- Audio? From speakers and in headset? There are some new optimizations or similar?
Thanks in advance to all

Hope that removed for the reasons you've mentioned :fingers-crossed:
Using Nougat Indian Firmware
Advantages-
1. Camera quality is better
2. Split screen
3. Smooth Ui
4. Performance Enhancment
5. Battery backup improved
6. Brightness dim Issue in sunlight is fixed upto great extent
7. Heating issue is much more solved
Disadvantages ( Huge list but Listing major one)
1. Touch issue (Lackness in touch sensitivity)
2. No manual Focus in Camera Menu
3. Sound Quality reduced (Vibrations in back panel)
4. Can't download apps frome playstore in Roaming.
5. Now we have to double tap to activate data from notification bar
So, its better to push updates for fixing these problems. I hope sony would release updates.
Number 4 and 5 from @ag_themes list are customisation dependent. Both are not present in Russian Nougat that also was on servers before withdrawal.
Also I don't have any touch issues. The sound problems mentioned are the main reason of update withdrawal.
Btw. No overheating is probably connected with reduced usage of a57 cores. Nougat uses them rarely comparing to marshmallow (some report says they are disabled in nougat).
Can someone upload Russian fw? I want to flash it
Using Android Nougat on India Version
Split Screen is advantage (but not many app support however you can force them to)
Slightly more responsive ( like 5 percent)
camera is same (with an added option in manual mode)
audio is also similar
i feel battery consumption when device is used is same ( maybe doze helps when phone is in sleep but i didnt notice much improvement)
My device hanged once (in youtube app). Restarted itself after 5 mins.
Indirect access to small apps ( i never really used them)
{
Other things such as detailed (two taps to toggle) mobile data , wifi and bluetooth. Displays important things on settings , NOtification quick reply these are android N features sony didnt mess with
}
I feel its an simple upgrade of API . Everything else is similar to MM.

Nope, not true. With out bootloader unlock, it is impossible to root the device.
IOVYROOT will get temp root access to backup the TA Partition, but after reboot, the device loses the root access. It is only for taking backup, you can not modify the system. If you try to modify the system with temp root access, your device will be dead after reboot.
Hello,
I have the option to download the official Beta Android R (RPB1.200504.18).
My Pixel 4 phone is my daily phone, just like to ask, if its worth downloading this beta version.
I know it will not be stable and may be a bit flaky, but will my phone be useable if I do?
Thanks

Been using it since day 1, no major issues here . Working flawlessly, except for Qnap apps that all crash besides the Qfile app.
One thing that sucks about Android 11 is that you can no longer hide the nav bar..

My wife had the same question when I updated her pixel 3 to this latest android 11 beta
Normally you can take the screenshot as on any other android - hold down volume down + power button and vollaaaa!
New way to do it also is by swiping up from the bottom and holding, and the besides the switch between apps option will appear you will also see Screenshot, Select, Share options underneath it
Yeh I get the old fashioned way, holding power and volume keys. Why on earth have they taken the very handy button that popped up when long pressing the power button !!!
As for your swiping up option, that doesn't work at all on my phone !!
Swiping up from the bottom and letting go works on my 4XL but only when in an app. If you are on the launcher i think its the old fashioned way. This is standard google to take away things we use!
Just received another beta update (RPB1.200504.020), 8.23MB
I'm able to set Shell as the default Home (Launcher App). What can I do to utilize this?
I'm loving the beta but I've found that when the pop-up asking you to chose what app to open something with, I only get two options: the recommended app and a second one and no list of apps that were being shown in android 10. It's really frustrating when you can't choose the correct app because it isn't listed. For example, what if you want to open the link in the app but you only see two web browsers? I use deampify to strip off the Google AMP part of the URL so I can open a link in the website's app such as CNN or The Washington post. That means if deampify doesn't show up then there is no way to chose it like I could in android 10. Another example is if you get an attachment in an email and you might want to open it in one of several apps such as Adobe Lightroom if you're going to edit it, Google Photos if you're saving it, Dropbox if you're sharing it with your family, Instagram if you're posting it, and what's app if you're sharing with a single friend? See how this can easily be an issue? Anyone else have this issue? Is there a fix?
I used the first official beta release for about a week, here's what I found:
* Good enough for a daily driver, if you don't mind a few hick-ups or manually restarting your phone every once in a while
* Slightly slower launching apps
* Audio quality from phone speakers was no where near as good (sounded thin and boxy), and not as loud.
* Camera would black-screen on me about every 4th launch and I'd need to force stop the camera
* Camera app always warned me it was too hot to preform certain advanced features
* Boot-up, not a big deal, but took about 6 times longer to start back up.
* I liked the notifications on the pull-down better. Not a huge change, but noticeable
* LOVED the screenshot edit pop up after every one (does more than Android 10 does). This was one thing I missed the most when I switched from a Samsung S10+ to Google.
The audio quality and camera were just too much for me to handle right now, so I went back to Android 10 for now. I may try beta 2 when it comes out?
Using Beta 2 right now, no issues at all, device is smoother than ever and battery lasts longer about 36 hours with medium usage getting 3.5h SOT

I haven't been having battery luck. On beta 2 I get about 1.5 hours. Of screen on time. Phone doesn't go to sleep at all. Same with Android 10. I have to go back to using naptime.
I don't have motion sense on or aod display.

thats odd, have you tried a full wipe?
Hi, I got a new Oneplus 8 pro (Oxygen 11), moved from Samsung galaxy s10. After using it for a few days, I have several issues that bother me, I would like to share them with the experts here ?
The purpose of this post is to be some kind of a summary, since I saw posts on some of the issues, but nothing organized. Please feel free to give your insights on all or some of the issues. Thanks!!
1. When pressing on a notification to enter an app (like whatsapp), there is a noticable lag. This has to be a bug since it is slower than my wife's galaxy s8 which is a lot older. I saw no solution to this issue.
2. The touch on the edge of the screen works poorly. It has a lag on regular presses and it sometimes does not detect a long press. I assume the purpose is to avoid accidental touches, but the result is very bad.
3. No number of notifications on app icon, just a dot. This is not a bug, but maybe someone has a way to add that option? (Like in Galaxy phones).
4. I did not see one handed mode option. I saw some mixed opinions about this issue, and I would like someone to tell me if it is possible/not possible/will be added soon.
5. Call recording. I have read it is a locked feature (why? It is legal on many countries). Saw solutions with ADB (need to redo every restart?) and with installing an outside app. Can anyone recommend anything?
6. 48mp camera is slow. After shooting I havw to wait 1-2 seconds before I can shoot again. Is it a bug or just the way it is?
Sorry for the long post. THANKS in advance.

Congrats on your new phone.
1. I have personally not noticed this issue.
2.Yeah it's pretty annoying especially if you want to use a scroll bar. I have this issue too.
3.Install third-party launchers. I recommend Nova launcher.
4. It's a requested feature but they have not implemented it yet.
6. yeah it's a lot of pixels to process. But most of the times 12MP pictures are better in terms of color and dynamic range. The only times I use 48MP mode is when there is plenty of light outside and I want to crop in later.

About 1- Not even on Whatsapp or Telegram?
#1 is also not a problem for me. The camera does seem slow compared to my old OnePlus 5 though and edge of the screen is something I had to get used to.
So it sounds like 1 is a problem only I have. Very strange. Perhaps you do not notice the lag since it is not super slow. It takes 0-5-1 seconds when pressing a notification no enter the app. In galaxy phones it is much faster.
