My Note 4 (Snapdragon variant) is on the latest Samsung Lollipop version, I've always had poor batterylife so I've wiped the device and started afresh but I'm having an irritating problem where ringtones and notifications have a noticeable out of sync echo on them. This occurs when the application generates the notification and it also happens when I play the notification from the sound menu, it sounds a bit like two applications are trying to play the same notification at once but that can't be the case. If I repeated play back the notification the sync drifts in and out so sometimes it will play normally, mostly not.
I can't think what I would have done to cause this, there's no new applications installed compared to what was installed previously and there's nothing that should muck up with the audio. I've had a good hunt around but almost everything I've found refers to echos during calls. Any advice appreciated as the phone sounds absolutely terrible at the moment.
Edit - Well I was being stupid, I had the Sony SBH-52 bluetooth headset right beside the phone when testing and I didn't realise it and the phone were both playing the ringtone and notifications hence the echo. Disabled media audio on the BT connection and all sorted.

Ok guys/gals, this is my first post ever and I'm pretty sure I've looked and searched all of the Xperia threads for a solution to this issue I'm having with my X1i.
If i'm playing music (using WMP or the Media Panel) with the Headset plugged in and a new SMS, MMS, e-Mail, or ANY type of notification pops up, the music (or any other audio) halts/stops/pauses/interrupts the music playback to prioritize the notification sound and then resumes the audio playback. I've looked at all the sound settings to see if there was a new option (headset options) to prevent this from happening but have had no luck...
Is anyone else having this problem?
The only solution I've had to work with so far is to uncheck the Play Sound box for all the notification options available in Sounds & Notifications and check the Display message, Flash light, and Vibrate options to let me know when I get a new message.
Xperia X1i
ROM Ver: 1.02.931.3
Dated: 08/29/08
Thanks in advance peeps..
I don't think it's possible to shut this off, Sony Ericsson phones have interupted the music since the first Walkman Phone.
Thanks Burrn, but since this is now a Windows Mobile device, surely there is a registry setting that could allow for the notification sound to be heard over any already playing audio.
At least every other windows mobile device I've had does this; so if music is playing and a notification pops up, the notify sound plays right over any audio simultaneously.
In other words, right now, if I'm using Windows Media player to listen to music and I get a text, my track pauses; I hear ONLY the notify sound; and then resume the track.
I want to be able to listen to my music, get a text and hear the notify sound over the playing track without it pausing the track to notify me of the event.
If one of you experts can perhaps look into the registry settings, I'm sure there has to be a way to modify this annoying setup. I think it would to do with the headset settings since it doesn't pause my music to notify when the headset isn't plugged in; it just plays the notify sound right over the track.
Any help?
Anybody else having this issue? Any more feedback would be greatly appreciated...thx.
I encountered the same problem with my X1,can anyone please help us?
i just find that i have almos the same problem
sometimes when i plug in the 3.5mm jet and start the GS player
the song will have slight interruption like a 0.1 sec stop.
it is very annoying and i just give up to use x1 for music
Help!
can anyone look into this and help? it looks like this would make at least 3 ppl happy to resolve...thanks!

Hey togcbu, I just recently found a fix for that; but you have to know how and be willing to go into the registry; I use Total Commander to go into the registry
HKCU
ControlPanel
Sounds
InCallBuzz
open Sound (this should show notify.wma); and simply erase the sound file name and save... presto, no more annoying sound during your call when you get an SMS.
Hi,
I have recently encountered a wired problem. Searched for web for similar issues, seen few same issue, but differ a bit.
I recently was surprised that phone stopped ringing or sound an sms alert or any other app alert such as WhatApp.
I tried to change the sound in sound settings for SMS, Whatsapp, Calls and Handcent app. All of which, didn't do any sound at all. When I select another sound within the apps, nothing is played. Some of them, played a standard beep instead.
I realized also that the alarm had a problem. It simply didn't sound at all at morning and therefore I was late to work that day :-(
anyways, I read on the net, few said, remove the battery for few seconds, did so, and helped, but problem comes up again. So I decided not to remove the battery anymore as it is a temp. solution only.
Some said, in Applicatoin settings, Sound Sets, clear data. Did that, and sometimes helps other doesn't. So another temp. solution.
Sometimes when it happens, I keep trying selecting different sounds, open different apps, changing their notification sounds, and suddenly, I can hear something when changing notification sound, then I know it is back again.
Now it has been happening for around 10 days, and didn't figure it out. I might need to do a hard-reset, but prefer not to as I hate installing all the apps (lots) I have installed and doing all the settings again. It takes long time. So I need another solution.
Something is strange, I am almost sure its not a faulty hardware, but maybe an app that interfere with something.
Anybody experienced such thing?
Hi, just upgraded from my Galaxy Note to the z1 yesterday.
Very impressed with the phone so far, but I have encountered one strange problem that I can seem to find no other comments about.
When I connect a headset (the bundled one, specifically) and turn my phone to silent mode so I can enjoy my audiobook in peace without being bothered every time I get a new promotional email, the notification sound plays over and pauses my audio book.
It does this no matter whether I turn the phone to silent, vibrate, turn the ringtone and notification volume to 0, and whether or not I make these changes manually or allow the smart connect app to make them for me.
The strange thing is, it only plays the notification sounds when something is playing through the headset. When I'm sitting just using the headset as a handsfree then everything behaves as expected - if a notification comes in, the phone will vibrate, flash the notification led, but won't make a peep otherwise. But as soon as media is playing, the phone seems to make up its own mind to vibrate and play the notification sound even though I've put it on silent.
Am I the only one experiencing this bug, or, more surprisingly, am I the only one who finds it hugely irritating?
sorry, just noticed i posted this in the wrong section, please close.
Hello,
Recently bought a new Note 4 N910G grey market from Hong Kong, and want to figure out if the problem I am having is some dumb software problem, or a possible hardware issue I should be worried about.
The Problem:
Notification sounds seemingly randomly echo or play very softly or get cut-off or start halfway through... it's difficult to tell exactly or to tell if it's doing the same thing each time it happens. Often the second sound will be fine and the normal volume. It sometimes sounds like the sound is playing twice at the same time but too soft and out of sync. I may get two Facebook notifications (for example - as far as I can tell it happens to all notifications) and the first will be this odd soft sound (which I believe is the correct sound I have chosen being played, but with either a large echo or something, and far too soft) and then the second one will be totally normal.
I haven't noticed any issues playing audio. Just with notifications. Seems to happen with the screen on or off.
N910G with OTA update to 5.1.1, XSA variant.
My custom notification sounds are on external sd card, but I think it's happened to some that aren't as well - like the inbuilt Skype sound which I can't change.
Anyone else have this problem? Does it sound like software, or hardware? Any idea how to troubleshoot or fix it?
Thanks heaps.
No one?
Sad
I've had my Mi A1 for over a year now and have almost always had it on vibrate, so all calls/notifications cause the phone to vibrate, but any media that gets played will be at the volume set for media.
Over the past couple of weeks though, notifications (not sure about calls, don't get many of them) will play the notification sound at the volume set for media. I can only get them to shut off if I mute the media volume. I've tried changing the volume for both media and ringing, and restarting the device, but to no avail. I either have to leave it muted and miss notifications, or leave it unmuted and get a jumpscare each time (it also plays notifications when I'm on a call, and you can imagine the jumpscare I get with my phone at my ear and a sudden loud notification).
I recently started using Bose QC35 ii headphones through Bluetooth with my phone, but I don't think that has anything to do with it because it was working fine with them before.
I've searched Google for this kind of issue but couldn't find anything other than standard instructions on adjusting the volume. Does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this (without doing a full reset of the phone, hopefully)?
EDIT: this is a stock ROM, I've never flashed anything new on it

So I solved this by going into Settings > Accessibility > Vibration and turning Ring & notification vibration off, restarting, and then on again. I was able to use the Pushy app to send test notifications so that I didn't have to wait for a friend to send me a message or something of the sort. My vibration mode now works as intended (not sure about calls, I don't know how I can test those without having a friend call me), and loud notifications according to the volume set for the ringer.
So as it turns out, today I once again got sound notifications, despite having set my phone to vibrate only. What could be resetting the sound profile like this (note that the ringer volume is still at zero) that the notifications play sound at the media volume? Anyone have any idea on this?

Why not just set them individually, it won't take long, when I first got my A1 I did just this.
Each time I got a notification I just pulled down and pressed the notification and customised it, most I turned off, the rest I either set to vibrate, a custom sound or left as it was.
Calls are easy to take care of, set ring volume to zero and it only vibrates.
For me:
I want a sound when I get a SMS.
I want a custom sound when I get a call.
I want no notification of gmail, (it would be going off constantly)
I only want Vibrate from WhatsApp messages.
Can't think of others but I think everything else is silenced.
If that is no good try "Volume butler" which will add a seperate volume control for notifications, not used it myself but it should do the trick: https://www.guidingtech.com/separate-ringtone-notification-volume-android/

The only downside of doing them individually is that I can't turn them all back on with one setting, as on some infrequent occasions I do want to hear them because I be expecting a message and not necessarily feel the phone in my pocket. and it seems I have to wait for the actual notification to come up? (can't seem to find the setting under the standard notifications settings menu).
I'll have a look at Volume butler, but it sure is disappointing that this would break when it was a nice feature to use.
This seems to be a general Android bug with some bluetooth devices: https://www.androidpolice.com/2019/...s-with-duplicate-alerts-and-ignored-settings/

Wow, thank you so much! I now at least know it isn't a unique issue for me, and have an idea of what causes it.

You're welcome, and seems that possibly if you unpair your BT device and reboot, you could get your notifications back to normal, but then you don't have your headset available...
Since the issue started outside of a system update, there is a chance it was introduced by a Google App or Play Services update, in which case hopefully Google will fix it soon since it's affecting a lot the Pixel phones.

Ah, I forgot to mention that I have a workaround for this that I came across in one of the dicussions somewhere. Inside Settings > Google > Search, Assistant & Voice > Notifications I can turn off notifications for Google completely. I've also turned off Google Assistant under Settings > Google > Search, Assistant & Voice > Google Assistant. I don't remember which of those actually resulted in the behavior not returning, but I'm pretty sure I don't need either, so I'm OK with it for now. (actually, do Google Security notifications come under the Google app or some other one?)
PS: reboot is actually not necessary, it seems force stopping Google Assistant or Google resets the notification settings (but yes, I want my headset hahaha).
Seems it's been fixed by Google: https://www.androidpolice.com/2019/...s-with-duplicate-alerts-and-ignored-settings/

Thanks! I will "just sit tightly" (as it says on the update) as I wait for the update.
