Hopefully someone can provide me with an anwser or any other form of help
Problem: No Internet signal, I do got the calling signal. When I have no signal for a while, the phone turns off and immediately on.
If I want to get the signal back I have to restart, set the phone's airplane mode on and off or de-select and select the APN name (provider).
Idea's: It seems like the phone doesn't automatically try to find the network back. And when it tries it shuts off.
Tried: I tried the following:
- Replacing the battery
- Trying another sim card, this worked so prob. sim card?(also from another provider)
- Factory reset from menu
- Factory reset from boot menu
- Checked the APN network
Background information: The phone is two years old and was always used with a Vodafone Sim card. It worked perfectly and had no issues. Since a few days I gave the phone to my father and he has a Ziggo (dutch retailer) sim card. With the new sim card from Ziggo the problems started.
The phone also has never been rooted, damaged or something else thats out of the order.
Phone information:
Samsung Galaxy S4 i9500 (was on the cover)
Android-version: 5.0.1
Baseband-version: I9505XXUHOD5
Kernel version: 3.4.0-3995895
[email protected] #1
Build number: LRX22C.I19505XXUHOD5
From your description it sounds as if the APN isn't properly set up, if set up at all. The APN information for the S4 can be found on Ziggo's website, here.
EDIT: According to you, the APN was checked. Compare your APN on the phone with what Ziggo recommends and let us know if they match?
Actually I need the instructions on:
ziggo.nl/klantenservice/mobiel/toestelhulp/#/samsung/i9505-galaxy-s-iv-lte/internet/choice_usecase/handmatig-instellen/ziggo-oud/5
because of different sim cards at Ziggo.
The settings according to the manual are the same as on the phone. Else I couldn't have any internet. I do got internet, but when it loses its connection the phone doesn't get any signal back.
I do checked it again and I have tried the other manual you posted. But it ain't succesful.
It is fixed now.
Apperently the sim card bugged in combination with the S4. I've got a new sim card from the same provider and that works great (till now).

Hi, all -
I'm hoping for a bit of help - came off a flight yesterday, switched flight mode off and... tick tock... the phone has been searching for the network ever since.
I'm not able to access the phone options either from the keypad screen or from the settings folder. I've hard reset the phone, soft reset it, searched the web for an answer or two - no luck.
It's an O2 version Exec, running their latest rom on a corp install. I've not installed any new progs recently and the sim card works fine on a separate phone.
Any suggestions?

I have exactly the same problem...
I saw the little antenna on my screen but not with signal strength bars, but with dots, and said on double click, searching for network.
A friend told me that it is my SIM card problem. So I went to TIM stores, and they gave me a new one SIM 128K, with my number.
I put it in my qtek, and ......... voila. It worked.
But only for 4 hours. After that I didn't get any signal.
I must say that this problem came 3 days after my upgrade of firmware with the new one O2 Xda_Exec_Upgrade_v1.30.162.
Now I can't install any Radio firmware, as it says ERROR UPGRADING RADIO ROM.
I don't know what to do.
Is anyone out there that can help us????
just installed wp7 on my hd2 and after the start up my phone keeps searching for the network. have tried automatic network selection and tap to select but no luck. am using 2.15 radio. would appreciate any help.
goto your settings, scroll to cellular, then down to add apn, in the apn box type epc.tmobile.com and leave the rest blank.
this works with tmobile us
isn't that supposed to be only for the data connection? even without entering the apn the phone should be able to find the network for just making voice calls. so mine seems to be a different problem. the phone is simply unable to catch any signals.
from my understanding of the whole cell phone fiasco is the sim card has everything the phone needs to connect your providers tower and also tells your phone what services you have voice, data, etc etc, so it should setup voice automatically. i would try searching for the program (htc connection setup) they use to install the xml files it also sets your phone with the provider.
good luck.

Only search at the internet for your apn settings, enter them and voila you can use your data connection, nothing more nothing less and done in a minute. HTC Connection Setup don't work well but you have to use it later if you want to change phone type to HD7 for the Marketplace ^^)

yeah we covered that part, the concern is that the phone is/was not connecting to the towers
Maybe check out other Radio ROM. 2.15 should work well, but uses more battery.
switched back to winmo 6.5 for a while and the same radio worked fine (caught the signal etc.). Just now again tried to flash wp7 using 2 different radios, that is 2.12 and 2.14. Have already tried 2.15 with my first attempt, but the problem just remains the same.... 'no network found'. any thoughts? have even tried putting in the apn too. no luck
u know its funny cus its the exact same with mine exactley the same ive tried everything and it picks up the signals but it wont let me connect to any network at all... the phone is just fine except that one problem.. plz any body help us with this stupid problem

i was havin the same damn problem, and i just flashed the 2.11.50.26 radio, and boom baby!! instant network connection. no more 3 beeps and disconnection for me now to check battery life and wifi (no 3g in trinidad yet, so u can't test that)
sim lock...???
After trying different radios by flashing and re-flashing, I've noticed something I should mention. My phone dialer shows a sim icon with a lock on the top left of the screen. Does that shed a new light on things?
sim lock ???
hey sameer... I have the very same issue with my HTC HD2. It is unlocked and I am facing the very same issue that you are when I revert to WinMo 6.5 everything works fine with the same radio. I've tried almost every radio now and have no luck. However, the funny thing is that I do see the sim with a lock when I go to my dialer. I suspect the OS is SIM Locked, however, when in WinMo 6.5 every Sim Card is recognized and works properly
Any luck with the issue yet??
Let me know of your thoughts... btw I'm on Ufone's Network.
It's the sim card!
Problem solved for me and hopefully for salmanjavaid too!
I learnt it the harder way though, by which I mean that I spent money to buy an HD7 and after inserting my sim in my brand new HD7..... no signal again! oooops! Only then it occurred to me to try some other sim cards. My network is also Ufone here in Pakistan. So first I tried a Prepaid Ufone sim (the one with white and orange colour and 64K printed on the back)...and Lo and Behold my hd7 gets the signal and network settings and data connection works fine too! Other operators' sim cards like Telenor, Warid and Mobilink worked fine too. But when I insert the sim card which is in my use back again....no signals again! This sim card is a different version, perhaps not 64K and plain black color on the back.
A call to my Personal Customer Service Executive assigned by Ufone sets the next course of action. He'll bring a replacement sim card for me, when I get back home.
My suggestion to salmanjavaid: try other sim cards first. If they work then get a replacement sim card.
Hope it solves your problem too.
id give this a shot. I'm on vacations in Pakistan and have my Sim Card from O2. I will give it a shot tonight Thanks for the suggestion.
So noticed about 5 days ago that I had NO Mobile DATA what so ever. Call and SMS work fine, weak but useable. My phone had the latest update so band 4 was already enabled. Have gone in via service menu and confirmed its still active. Ive been trying everything I can find on XDA (switching APNs etc) still no data, and I am stumped guys, please help. I have a Verizon Note 3 running Alliance build 1. Service is via Straight Talk T-Mobile Sim. Outside of updating a few apps nothing has changed on my phone. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
- Check your subscription with the service provider
- Check your credit (balance)
- Check the APN settings
- Check the network coverage and the availability of data service
- Check your phone software or firmware
- Check your phone hardware
Try to eliminate the possible causes by using different ways, e.g swap the sim card to another phone to see if it works (check the sim card), put another good sim card to your phone (check the sim), move to another location (check network coverage)...
Turned out I had a bad Sim card, worked fine for 6 months and then one day no data, called my service provider they sent me out a new Sim card and everything works again. Just wanted to post in case anyone else ran into this. Thanks for the help!
Hi!
Like the title states my phone (GT-i9515, S4 Value Edition) is unable to register to any other network than 2G.
I'm not really sure if it's a hardware problem or something software related is messed up. So first of - here is what i did:
Checked IMEI - it's correct and corresponds with the one written on the label underneath the battery.
Re-flashed the firmware via Odin (I9515XXU1BPK1_I9515YIA1BOJ1_I9515XXU1BPK1_HOME.tar.md5) -> AP: I9515XXU1BPK1, CP: I9515XXU1BPK3, CSC: I9515YIA1BOJ1.
Checked signal strength under Device Info -> Status: somewhere between -70dBm and -50dBm.
Put the SIM in my primary phone where it's working flawlessly.
See post #3
I already figured, that it seems to be a common problem among Samsung devices (for some strange reason) but all fixing attempts or solutions confirmed working (as far as i can tell) are i9505 specific.
Does anyone know a way to tell whether it's a software or hardware issue (maybe a tool or something)? And is there anyone who has access to a service manual for this device? I know there is one on scribd but i can't download/view it since i have no premium account .
Tell me if i missed out any relevant information.
Thanks in advance!
Silly question, but did you check your APN?
I should add that to the OP. It doesn't seem to be that silly to ask according to what I have read in other posts.
Yes, I did. After i inserted the SIM initially and set the network mode to force 2G only I received a text message immediately containing all the necessary configurations.
If I try to set the APN manually the phone is looking up all available providers and does indeed find some including the one I need to pick for my SIM - even in 3G/4G mode. But if I select the provider (medionMobile, using o2 network) in 3G/4G (WCDMA/LTE) the phone isn't able to register to the network. Only on 2G.
Have you tried a different SIM from a different carrier?
I know your current SIM works perfectly in your other device, but by trying a SIM from another carrier you can determine the following. Should the other SIM work properly in the S4, then we know there isn't an issue with the phone itself, but either the service (likely), or the SIM (less likely). If the other SIM does not work properly, then you may have a problem with the SIM card slot.
Well, i tried the SIM of a friend but he does use the same carrier. I will try that tomorrow at work, there are plenty of SIMs crossing the halls
But let's say it doesn't change anything, is it possible that the SIM card slot is malfunctioning since the phone can obviously operate in GSM mode?
Yes.
Sorry for the late reply. So, I did a check with a SIM of another carrier and well, the phone did not even recognise it. Like there is no SIM present.
To replace a faulty SIM/SD PCB is not much of a deal so I will most propably just do that and post here whether it helped or not.
A service manual would still be much appreciated
The manual for the i9505 version says to check a faulty SIM/SD thing, check the voltage at a certain capacitor. But the PCB layout of the mainboard is slightly different so I would have to guess which is the right one.
Anyway, I thank you for your reply :good:
I just received my phone after being in service where they replaced my motherboard (Allview V1 Viper L a.k.a. Gionee Pioneer P6). I put the SIM card from my temporary phone (working fine) to my personal phone. On my phone (the one from service) there is no service, as it is displayed on my lockscreen NO SERVICE - ORANGE. I tried selecting both manual and automatic network (Can't connect right now. Try again later - automatic & Error searching network - manual). My IMEI seems to be fine, it's the same with my last IMEIs (they changed motherboard, but not my IMEIs). I did try to put the SIM card in the both SIM sockets - no difference. I checked again my SIM card on another phone - works OK. I did a factory reset - no difference. Is it something that I can do? I don't want to send it in service again, as I think it's a software problem to whom I could? find the solution. Comment if you need additional info about my device.
