It seems to take a lot longer to wipe cache and dalvik these days. I'd say approx. 2-3 minutes for the wipe. I can flash roms just fine. Since seeing this problem I have tried reinstalling TWRP 2.8.6.0 which didn't improve it. I have also restored to factory 4.4 and let the device run through the upgrade process back up to 5.1.1 which didn't improve it. Am I crazy to think that this is taking longer than its supposed to, to wipe cache and dalvik?
In TWRP settings do you have the option checked "use rm -rf instead of formatting"? If not then check it and see if there is an improvement.

That seems to have had a dramatic improvement as it completes almost instantly. I recognize it as a Unix command but I'll need to research it a little more. Do you leave that option enabled at all times?

Hi,
There is a bit of a difference. While formatting is deleting and rewriting your partition, rm -rf is simply deleting all files inside. Short term there's not much of a difference, but long term there should be some small differences due to waste from rm -rf vs formatting, not that a normal user (like you or me, or any tablet owner) should notice.
I for one don't see much of a difference in time, so I just leave the option disabled on both my tablet and smartphone. All in all, don't worry too much about it.

This device is blazing fast most of the time, but it will inexplicably lock up, completely, for a few minutes at a time for seemingly no reason. Right now it's frozen on a youtube video and I can't turn it off or use the screen. The device is also unusable really when installing apps, and will lag heavily in Google Now sometimes.
Is this just me? Or 4.2.1?
Just you. My N7 is still operating at warp speed and doesn't lock up..

Are you stock? If so I heard people saying turning off the sync for currents will help, for Google now lag I feel its performs better if you turn off the hot word in setting. But with that you can't say Google and start voice search

I'm stock 4.2.1 and don't have those issues. I do have currents (and various other apps) disabled, so like previous response said try that. Otherwise maybe go with a factory reset.
When my gnex updated to 4.2 it's performance suffered until I factory reset, now it's been much better.

My best guess would be you have installed an app that is not compatible with 4.2.
How about posting a list of what you have installed, if you use multi-user, and if you are stock (not rooted), and we can give comments.
I agree. I'm running PA and rock solid. I was also rock solid on stock.
I've never had it lock up. I flashed a Trinity kernel once that caused sleep of death... but it was a known issue.

I have a pretty decent amount of apps installed. I'll post them in a minute, but no, I'm not multi-user, and I'm stock. I'll root and put a new rom on this thing if it's worth it, I figured it'd be fine the way it came.
btw, here are my androbench results. Are these slow?

thanks, I'll try disabling those.
Over 100 apps in total, my andronbench write speed is clearly an error so just compare read and app open macros.
My apps open much faster than yours, which I'd put down to PA ROM and kernel. Maybe your write speed is a bit slow?
Can you download "forever gone" from market and try a full fill and delete? Apparently helps reset the memory controller to improve performance.

Don't be shy you guys, throw some ideas at me.

I unlocked it. Thank you for suggesting the franco kernel. I think I read somewhere that the franco kernel with cm10 was brilliant. I would leave it stock, but I feel like I've gotten to know the phone quite well already lol. I haven't played the jelly bean game yet btw. Good tip.
Definitely throw on Franco's kernel. If you also get his kernel updater app, I would recommend changing your screen gamma settings to match this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39012344#post39012344. I brought down the red a little bit because I like my colors to be a little cooler . I personally think this is the way our screen colors should have been calibrated all along as it looks so much better.

check the battery life, and download some games to check its performance, and also in taking pics or audio. anyway, just the respect you are concerned.

First thing is download the factory image from Google so you have it to hand should you need to go back to stock. Also make sure you know adb/fastboot commands and don't use toolkits (they're for the lazy). Make sure you understand how to reboot the unit should something go wrong and generally read every guide you can on here before doing anything

Finally, some good advice. I'd also recommend creating a nandroid in recovery BEFORE flashing anything. It might be a good idea to save a copy on your computer. Could save you some hassle later.

Have been asking about this problem for days and no one has answered me yet. For the past few days Android System has been using the majority of my battery. Always around 30% or more. I attached screens so you can see the processes running underneath "Android System"

You probably didn't receive an answer because there are COUNTLESS threads on how to find out for yourself what is causing your drain and how to fix it. People need to stop expecting to be spoon fed solutions. You're on a developers forum where there are guaranteed to be bugs and issues, If you can't deal with that, don't hang out here.
Someone had to be the asshole haha
The only solution I can think of, is to periodically close the apps you're using the least, Again though if this doesn't work then of course do the good old factory reset and try again. Anything past that and it's hardware issues.
Download something like Better Battery Stats and see if one of your apps is causing wakelocks. If you don't see any wakelocks, I'd say the next step is to check your CPU settings. Different CPU governors keep the phone awake longer than others before dropping back to deep sleep which could cause higher system drain. Beyond that, if you're rooted reflash whatever you're running, if not try a factory reset.

I am stock rooted with the Google Experience Launcher.
Also, If I were to factory reset(Which I hope I dont have to), would it be safe to do so even though I am rooted with TWRP installed? Like will there be a risk bricking/bootlooping my phone if I factory reset while rooted with TWRP? Should i factory reset using TWRP or in the settings menu on my phone?
I had the same issue over the past few days, and as simple as it seems, rebooting fixed the problem for me.

Yes, you can even do the factory reset from within TWRP; just select the standard wipe option. I did it yesterday in prep for installing a new ROM. It does take awhile, but I had no problems and my internal "SD" memory wasn't touched.

Nope. It just takes you back to the starting blocks of whatever ROM you have loaded. For instance, if you're on stock it takes you back to Day 1 of owning the phone, but doesn't erase anything on the "Internal SD". If you've loaded another ROM, say Malladus or something, it will just take you back to the base of that ROM, with no mods or personal settings.
This is happening to a lot of different people on a lot of different devices. FYI.

HARD RESET !!
It's really worth the effort for reinstalling ur apps again
And one more thing....just install the apps that u use and u will really feel the difference
I think I may do this with the next big update coming soon. I was going to do it right after the last update but kicked the can down the road and decided to do it the next time. I think some people do it after every update though.

Its factory settings......it removes every thing on the device like it was out of the box
- Turn Off your Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 device.
- Wait for 10 seconds, Then move to the next step.
- Press and hold Volume Up key + Power key.
- Keep pressing the above keys until the Samsung Logo appears,Then release Power key only.
- When you see Factory reset / System Recovery menu on screen release the Volume Up Key.
- Use Volume Down key to select Wipe Data / Factory Reset option.
- Use Power key to confirm the operation.
- You need to use the Volume Down key again to select "Yes -- delete all user data"
- Use Power key to confirm.
- After performing the hard reset, Select Reboot System Now option, And confirm it using Power key.
- Now the phone will reboots, Wait for it to be fully on and then you can start using it.

Hi mates,
I've 3 days with my 6P and i'm wondering if is there a better performance with a decrypted phone, or it does not matter really.
Iam encrypted at the moment, just wondering if i should decrypt it, and what would be the benefits if i decrypt the phone?
Thanks in advance.
I doubt if you'd notice any difference in day to day use, so unless you put an encrypted unit next to a decrypted one and run benchmarks I don't see the benefit.

Ok thanks. And one last question, does the nexus 6p usuable storage get reduced to 23gb instead of 25gb when decrypting /formatting internal storage???
I've 'heard' someone claim their usuable storage was 2gb's less. Got no clue what else they did tho...
But I do like the sound of faster flashes in twrp If decrypting /formatting has no negative effect... I'll do it just for faster flashing! Wipe it down clean lol
