MY imei is different from my original S5 - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok here is my problem
i have Samsung s5 from rogers
i when to Ghana so i wanted to use my phone there but it was lock so
took it to some guy to unlock it and it worked ok
when i came back and inserted my old sim
i get not registered to network and my imei is different from the box
i have tried flashing it with stock rom but still getting the same message
any body had this problem and how it they get it working
thanks

Unless you have made a backup of your original cert files nothing can be done, the shop in Ghana most likely used an IMEI from another handset and wrote it yours during the process this also unlocks your handset afaik .

Not Registered on Network

Hi guys,
I recently picked up a used S4 on Craigslist for cheap because the guy "screwed up" using Odin and flashed something that caused his phone to not register on any networks. I figured, what the hell, it's cheap enough and I might be able to restore it. So far I've restored the Rogers firmware over Odin and tried installing a custom rom/recovery too. I'm still getting this problem unfortunately. The IMEI reported with *#06# and in the status screen does match the sticker on the inside of the phone.
So I'm sure everyone's going to suggest that the phone was stolen and the IMEI has been blacklisted. My provider (Fido/Rogers) apparently doesn't care if the IMEI is blacklisted, they'll let it run anyway. I called up Fido anyway (since I'm a Fido customer) and asked them about the IMEI of this phone and they say they don't have any record of anyone calling in reporting it stolen and they don't have an IMEI database so she didn't have much to say about it.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? I've also flashed just the kernel, and I will flash a modem onto it too. I know my SIM card works, and both my SIM card and the last owners SIM cards don't work. I know the radio works because it picks up the emergency signal fine, and the SIM tray isn't damaged because when I put in my Fido SIM the Fido APN's automatically come up, as well as the lock screen goes from "No SIM inserted" to "unregistered SIM." Could my EFS partition be borked? Wifi works and IMEI shows up correctly.
The buyer said he would take the phone back if I can't fix it, but I want to try a bit more before I give up. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, that would be great. Thanks a lot in advance XDA!
Summary:
-Used S4
-Owner flashed something wrong in Odin
-Gets "Not registered to network" error, unregistered SIM error
-Tried restoring
-Tried new ROM/Recovery
-Carrier says IMEI is fine, also tried directly registering the IMEI to my account
-IMEI is correct in settings/sticker on back of phone
-Wifi/everything else all works
Sounds like it's SIM locked to a different network. Try the the guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2285431

My girlfriend has a Bell sim, which when we insert, gives us the "Please enter unlock code" screen.
My sim does not do that. I know this device is for my carrier, but I figure the easiest way to get this going is to just unlock it and see if the problem persists on other networks.
I've tried that unlock tutorial before. The first time I tried it, when I just got the phone from the previous owner, it said "Golden-backup does not exist" so I couldn't do the restore step of that guide. After Odin-flashing everything and starting over, I can't even get into the UMTS menu anymore! I'll try another restore and give it another go though.
Edit: Another problem. I did a restore again using Odin and notices that it never properly wipes the phone. When I finish flashing, my Wifi still autoconnects on first boot, and every few seconds, a process crashes causing the phone to freeze. Has anyone heard of this kind of problem before?
Quick update:
Managed to Odin-flash it to the earliest firmware I could find for the phone without any crashing or freezing problems. Trying to do the network unlock method mentioned online. It does not work, even though I'm following the instructions to a T. Could it be that my EFS partition is borked and that the NV rebuild can't happen, meaning my radio configuration would also be borked?
Edit: Oh and when I booted up my phone for the first time, the phone was actually ON Fido! But within a few seconds, it went back to "Emergency calls only."
Hmm, that is some odd behavior, and definitely not a carrier lock. Shame it's never that simple to fix.
Not quite the same as your issue, but I lost my ability to make and receive calls after flashing a newer modem on an AOSP firmware. Flashing custom kernels, older modems, the latest stock rom and kernel were no help at all. I tried everything I could think of short of groveling. In the end the only way I got everything working again was to flash the original factory firmware my phone shipped with, factory wipe it from stock recovery, then flash it again. If you've already tried that (and I'm guessing you have), consider contacting Samsung regarding warranty. They've been really good to me in the past, even with second-hand phones.
I can confirm that Odin doesn't clean everything out. In my trials I also noticed that flashing via ODIN without a factory reset presented no setup wizard, caused lots of FC's and left some previous files hanging around.
Sounds like a bad sim tray.

I had trouble with my handset after it got run over in the street, making it's otterbox earn it's money. The only bad symptom after that episode was Emergency calls only kept recurring.
I cut a tiny square of transparent scotch tape, avoided touching the sticky side, and placed it squarely on the SIM chip's backside, to make it fit the sim slot more snugly. It sounds like you should try stacking two or three layers on your chip as it sounds to be more loose than mine is.
Hi everybody! Thanks for all the help trying to fix it! It ended up being that the guys the previous owner had unlock it used the debug-menu unlock method and my phone was one of the ones that doesn't accept it. Lots of other people complained about similar problems as me in the free unlock method thread. In the end, I paid for the FastGSM USB Unlock method and it fixed the problem.
OH MY GOSH YOU JUST SAVED ME from buying another phone!! THANKS so much.. I added 3 layers of tape on the back of my sim and it works!!! weird.. cause I have the Dual Sim.. and it was the first sim that would not work. the second sim was fine.. anyways.. THANKS SO MUCH!!

s4 unable to unlock possible change imei?

ive been trying to get my samsung s4 SGH-i337m Bell unlocked.
ive tried a few internet companies and they said they cant unlock the phone for many possibly reasons.
ive swapped the motherboard with a smashed screen phone because my first s4 had the sim card issues and many other issues so i swapped with a newer mobo.
now i want to unlock my phone to work with my carrier (wind mobile) but im not finding any ways to unlock it myself. ive tried using menus trying to unlock "PERSO SHA256 OFF" through the menu but i have 4.4.2 and 4.3 is the android version that can be unlocked easily through menu screens. once the phone is at 4.4.2 it seems like its unable to flash back to 4.3.
ive got the idea to change the IMEI so my phone will be basically original but with the newer mobo...but im having problems changing my IMEI.
ive used QPST and changed the hex code and reset the phone and it wont take and ive used NV reader and still doesnt seem to change the IMEI. each time i check my IMEI its still the original.
is there a way i can unlock it or change the IMEI to my first phone and use my first unlock code to unlock my phone with the new motherboard?
thanks
Changing your imei is illegal in many countries. You went get any support on doing that on XDA.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SM-N900 Region lock issue

I am done with my research and yes I came with a big F in my certificate. I am exhausted, disgusted and utterly pissed! With that said, here is what happened, what I did to solve it and what was the aftermath.
What happened?
I got a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SM-N900 as a gift from my friend. He purchased it from United States. As you can expect, I wasn't aware of this popular issue for Galaxy Note 3 because I didn't plan on purchasing it. If I would, I would have done my research. The phone, as beautiful as it was, arrived in its perfect state and worked like charm with one of the Bangladesh carriers (I used Grameenphone just in case any of you were curious).
Things were working great until I had to go to US myself. I had a transit in Saudi Arabia for about 12 hours. In the meantime, I purchased on of their local SIM card and stuffed inside Galaxy Note 3 (stop biting your nails. I know I screwed up). It worked like charm too. Arrived in US. Purchased a T-Mobile SIM card and surprisingly it worked great with that one too.
Things changed when I came back to Bangladesh though. Now that I am in my home country, the baby doesn't recognize its mother anymore. Not even a single carrier's SIM card gets detected inside NOTE 3. Instead there is a "X" sign on the top of the SIM card icon. To make it worse, the IMEI number is also gone. I know you wouldn't believe but I didn't go through any flashing process whatsoever. The only thing happened is I changed my location geographically. Since then, I never got it working. I never actually tried to get it working as I had so many phones in my stock.
But things changed. With time, my primary and secondary phones disappeared and I am only left with my Galaxy Note 3 (the last one got stolen). As a last resort, I tried everything but failed. According to the popular issues in internet, my phone doesn't ask for any sort of codes whatsoever. I am actually never greeted with that screen. The problem I have is, no matter which SIM I put in, it never detects. Any network related number execution obviously returns with "Not registered under network" (codes like *#06#). Tried the Region unlock away app by Chainfire and also didn't work. Tried tonnes of custom ROMs that didn't solve either. Right now before posting this question, I am downloading the stock 5.0 firmware from SamMobile for Bangladesh carriers. I hope it works but it will be my final try. After that, I live that upon you experts. Can you suggest what to do?
The actual problem
1) No SIM card is detected.
2) IMEI and IMEI SV says Unknown
3) Also a nifty info is after I used the Region Lock Away, it said the process failed because it "couldn't locate CSC data! You could try flashing a CSC package to correct this"
4) Just if you are curious, yes of course my device is rooted and currently running Lineage OS.
Thanks in advance.
2) IMEI and IMEI SV says Unknown
RESTORE your backed up EFS folder .

Now would you call it a self destruct if I said I don't have anything backed up? The IMEI disappeared when I arrived in Bangladesh and turned the phone on with the local carrier.
There has to be some way to get the SIM working, right?
Self destruct if you mean fail to read the basics then yes.
Suggest search IMEI problem amongst theo thousands of posts one or two succeeded .

Samsung S7 SM-G930F wrong IMEI and model number

Hello guys. I am not quite new here, but I never registered (or I did but I couldn't find with which email or username).
However, I am having some trouble with Samsung S7 phone.
First of all, the IMEI on the About page is not the same as the IMEI on the back of the phone.
When I enter the IMEI from the back of the phone in IMEI checker, I get the right phone (Samsung S7).
When I enter the IMEI from the About page in IMEI checker, I get some old BLU phone.
Second problem is that I think this phone is not duos, however, whichever firmware I try to flash, I see the SIM card manager in the Settings. Which is weird to me.
Third problem is that the phone won't connect to network. I've tried 3 SIM cards (all 3 of those works on other phones), but this one just won't connect.
It shows full strength of signal, it also shows the phone number of the SIM, however, when I try to make a call, it says "Not registered on network".
The phone should not be locked as my brother said that he used it for some time, then he updated it to the latest OS and then did a factory reset. After that, the phone just stopped working.
Does anyone know what could be the issue? Why the IMEIs are different?
I am quite sure that the phone model is SM-G930F, however, the model number in Settings shows SM-G930FD. Which is again weird to me.
I've looked on the Google to see a picture of the SIM card slot of Samsung S7 duos and mine SIM card slot does not like that. Also, on one slot, it says only "microSD" and on another "SIM". So, I guess it is not a duos phone.
Any advices?
Thank you in advance!
All the best,
Dale
It sounds like somebody has changed the IMEI of the phone and patched the certificate for the IMEI to work.
Once you reset the phone or update the firmware on it, it will remove the patched certificate allowing the changed IMEI.
You will need to look for someone that does IMEI repair / change to get it working for you again I know there is a guy on the forums here that does them for free. Look through the s7 edge sub forums for them.

Well, I already flashed the firmware multiple times with different basebands and versions of the firmware as I thought that the firmware is wrong. Also tried to flash the firmware with Phone EFS Clear option checked in Odin.
Everything else on the phone works.
Sorry that this isnt help but you not alone, I unbricked a Samsung S7 (SM-G930F) after it suddenly just bricked (hard brick/soft brick - same thing). Eventually when I installed nougat on it, and finally wanted to use the phone, i tried a simcard and noticed how it would load all saved contacts but whatever I dailed, it responded "Not registered to network". Checking the model number it is now SM-G930FD but i am unable to verify the imei becuase of missing box. I tried many firmwares (even those that specify its for SM-G930F) but the model number remains SM-G930FD.
could any help plz be posted...

S10 + Sprint Unlocked issue

Hi Everyone,
I just bought a brand new s10+ from marketplace. I ran a full imei report and everything is clean & not blacklisted. It was a sprint phone however the provider I use is consumer cellular (uses ATT towers). When I put my sim card in it obviously said invalid sim and request it get unlocked. I wasnt concerned because I was going to convert it to unlocked anyways via odin like I did my note 9. I reflashed it via odin with the u1 firmware. However the same thing is happening it keeps saying invalid sim and the button for mobile operators is not showing. I have a tmobile sim card and if I put that in it works fine. Being though tmobile and sprint are the same thats why it works fine. I also have a ATT sim card, If i put that in I get the same invalid sim message. So it still appears to be locked somehow. Only sprint / t mobile sim works. I thought by reflashing to unlocked it would unlock the phone sim.
Just to be clear the phone is brand new and never was attached to any account.
Any ideas? I dont know what to do here.
Thanks!!
As I understand, phones that are locked to a network are not just software branded... also the phones hardware ID. So flashing a generic firmware is not enough. You need to get the phone unlocked from the phone's original operator
I found out what I had to do. I had to use a remote unlock service to remove the software lock on the phone. Its fine now. Thanks
