Following the 5.0 update I've been unable to connect my S5 to my pc (Windows 7 VM for clarity). I can select the MTP/PTP options from the phone, I've (un/re) installed the drivers multiple times, but still have an unknown usb controller listed within the device manager. When I connect the phone to the VM, the OS attempts to install the device drive but it fails. Manually installing the drive by pointing to the install folder also fails. Looking at the properties of the unknown device doesn't provide any additional information.
So.... stuck. I've found a few other similar posts, but it seemed like reinstalling the drivers was the general resolution.
Thoughts?
Found and followed this guide: http://donandroid.com/how-to-install-adb-interface-drivers-windows-7-xp-vista-623
Get to the end after installing the drive, but the device won't start.
Still stuck.

As the topic states, I can't get the drivers installed for my XOOM to be properly recognized by my PC so I can copy to/from. When I plug it in my PC I get a popup bubble on my system (Win 7 64 bit) that says unrecognized device. In device manager it's listed as Unknown Device. I've tried with debugging enabled and disabled just to see, same issue.
I've used USBDView to view the currently installed USB devices and removed as much as I could, installed the latest drivers and no matter what same thing happens.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
**EDIT**
It would seem that I have 2 bad USB ports. Once I tried another port, TADA, my XOOM was happy.
Mods, if you want you can even delete this.
Hello Everyone,
----------------------------
Nexus 7 Driver Fail
----------------------------
I was Unable to install drivers on Windows XP (ADB and Fastboot Drivers do not load). Every step has failed and multiple drivers fail to install with Code 18 and 28. I’ve tried just about EVERY Tool Kit available out there and searched fourms, still no positive results. If anyone out there may have an answer please feel free to drop it in here, I greatly appreciate all your help. Thank you.
Here is a list of what I have done thus far:
- Rebooted the computer after uninstalling devices with USB Deview before
continuing on to the other steps
- Uninstalling and manually deleting driver from the registry
- Unplugging and repluging the device while watching
the device manager (The device shows up as other devices, Example: nexus and MTP)
- I tried disabling auto driver configuration by Simply pressing the "Disable Auto Driver Config" button and then
changing the settings accordingly
- Registry cleaning
- Removing and manually adding to windows driver folder
- Trying on different User accounts from Admin to guest
- Used Android SDK manual driver installation
- Unplugged the device and Launched USBDevice
- Used USBDeview to uninstall any;
- Android ADB Interface device's
- Samsung USB devices
- Google USB drivers
- ANYTHING else you see that resembles your Nexus.
- Looked for devices with Vendor ID's:"18d1"or"04e8"
I then right clicked these devices, and selected the option to” Uninstall Selected Devices"
-Downloaded The official Asus USB driver off of Asus actual support base
And it said the following: an error occurred during the installation of this device The Parameter is incorrect.
Have I missed this action:
Download the drivers from Asus and unpack them to their own directory.
Connect the N7 with USB debugging enabled in "developer options"
Open Device Manager
Locate the N7
(from here my xp knowledge is rusty)
Right click on the N7 and select properties
Find the option to install/update drivers, Take the option to specify the driver directory where you unpacked the download, ensure that include sub directories is ticked and that should install

I tried the same steps.
I even tried using Android SDK, Universal Naked driver
Still no luck
N7 running 4.2.1 stock
I have a Nexus 7 that used to be able to be seen (and trnasfer files) on my Win 7 64-bit Ultimate pc. It is not visible in Explorer now- think it happened after upgrade to 4.2.2
I have tried various ways and means from this site and others but still unsuccessful. My pc kept wanting to install MTP USB drivers everytime I plug the N7 into it even when I have it set as PTP; and the drivers always failed.
I downloaded the Universal naked Drivers and tried to install it as well but problem is that my device only show up as MTP USB (under portable devices) instead of as N7; and under that the drivers is always the failed MTP USB drivers. I cannot browse to install Universal Drivers here cos the pc will not accept it.
Really running out of my wits. Any advises please?
Thanks.
I had initial problems connecting to my pc after installing all the drivers from a toolkit. After searching, I followed a tip and installed pdanet on my phone and pdanet for android on my pc. Now I connect exactly like my phone or other storage with full access to the user storage on the n7 from the pc. Win 7 pro 64bit.
Hi
I am a new user for nexus 6p, For the first time I connected my device to Computer running windows 10 updated. My laptop didn't detect the usb and the driver is not installed properly, I tried downloading the latest usb driver but it didnt help , While searching for the driver folder it throws
Windows was unable to install your unkown drive
You can get the USB drivers straight from Google and try to uninstall/reinstall or download Wugfresh's NRT. There is very good driver installation tool and test to confirm you get both USB and fastboot drivers installed properly. Just follow the "Full Driver Installation Guide"

Hi... Do you have ADB enabled in developer options? If you don't have developer options enabled, go in: settings>about phone and type 7 times on the build number, then go back in settings > developer options and enable "android debugging".
Plug your N6 on your computer, check your phone screen and allow press ok when it asks to "allow USB debugging".
Does it change something? Is your N6 recognized in device manager? Does the driver updates?
...
So My puter recognizes my phone fine....
Pop opened the configuration and General tab says:
This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1)
A service installation section in this INF is invalid.
To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.
I try and update the driver using the "Let the puter search" feature and it finds one and tells me:
Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device.
Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.
MPE Device
A service installation section in this INF is invalid.
If you know the manufacturer of your device, you can visit its website and check the support section for driver software.
This is all AFTER I downloaded the latest Google USB drivers and unzipped them.
Phone is set to MTP mode and debugging mode is unlocked and usb debugging is on.
No Go.
Hey XDA, pretty much like the title says. This is the first time I have this issue, before it was always plug it in and press the transfer files option and autoplay would pop up. Now Windows informs me that “Android is ready for use” but there is no way to find the device in File Explorer.
I hooked up my A1 to my laptop which did work properly so the problem is definitely on this PC’s end. I’m running latest version of Windows 10 Pro N 64. So far I’ve tried changing cables, different USB ports, rebooted both my PC and Phone. I also installed ADB Setup 1.4.3. The phone charges fine.
In device manager under Other Devices it says MTP with an exclamation sign, I’m unable to find drivers for this thing through auto search. There’s also ADB Interface under USB Devices which has up to date drivers.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Exactly the same here, under windows 10, MTP device not supported in the windows devices panel, i'm running ressurection remix rom....
When I first got my A1 I used Helium to restore my apps, I found it would only connect if I selected MIDI in the phones drop down.
This happens. Just use update driver and manually select the MTP driver from the list.
go to your notifications, tap the usb option and select transfer files. works great for me.
