Beware of Fake Galaxy S6! - Galaxy S6 General

Hi all,
Today is not a good day, thought I would share a valuable lesson that I leant. Earlier today I purchased a Galaxy S6 from someone who I thought was a trustworthy seller (I had dealt with him before with no problems) through Gumtree. We met at a public space and I checked the phone out and it seemed alright, however, I had only had around 3 hours sleep from a long flight the night before. After getting it home I realised that its a fake. The camera is shockingly bad and the fingerprint scanner hardly works, the screen is not even close to Samsung's quality.
I am extremely annoyed at myself for not realising as I am not at all knew to this sort of thing, I have owned many Android phones over the years and usually change my device every 4-8 months. So it just shows it really can happen to anyone! The phone itself is surprisingly well built, it is heavy and the finish on it is very accurate.
Let this be a warning to everyone! Always triple check what you are buying even if you believe you can trust the seller! Looks like im going to have to stick to the old brick until I gather up some more savings :crying: I have listed the phone on eBay in hope I can pick up a little cash for it to make up for my mistake so if you want to check out the pictures:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251995314947?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

the seller refuses to give you your money back? you should go to the police then, if you know who he is...

The title says "Samsung Galaxy S6 Plus (16GB Galaxy S6 Copy)" how come you have been cheated?
Couldn't you read that it is a FAKE GALAXY S6 ?
I wonder!!!!!!

I'm with this guy. If you know they dude who sold it to you, without a doubt, go to the police. He sold you a legit knock off and that **** seriously doesn't fly well here in the states. They had a whole show of underground knock offs on the show "Underground America" or something like that... People KNOWINGLY selling counterfeits are criminals. Of give him one chance. After that, hit up the cops. (Hopefully we don't see ya on the news, where the dealer starts chanting "hands up don't shoot" then he becomes a "victim" and nothing happens...)
Hope ya get your $ back man!

some idiot sold me a fake on ebay. wonder what was he thinking....I got buyr protection via ebay, paypal and credit card... best way to spot a fake is to check the right side of the phone, the sim card tray. if hole is pointing downwards, you got a fake.

I just bought one from ebay. How else could you tell if it's a fake? I'm starting to get paranoid.

Educate yourself and avoid buying unless you can touch, see and boot up.

I'd give him a chance to give you your money back then go police. I wouldn't sell it on ebay as it's counterfeit and illegal.

You cannot sell a counterfeit on eBay, even if you list it as such.
If you meet in a public place, see if you can find a camera from one of the companies and buildings nearby. England seems to have a CCTV every square inch.

Well that really sucks man. Before I bought my S6 off ebay from a seller with 30,000+ positive reviews I visited AT&T stores several times to play with the demo units S6 and S6 Edge to decide which one I wanted in what color. I recommend anyone buying an S6 from a private seller in person do this also, so they know exactly what they are supposed to be getting.

Is this fake or genuine? Sim tray on top..never seen that

I would say its a fake.

For all who think there s6 is fake try antutu officer app from play store ... it is easy to use and it tests is your phone original ... so try it out

Hi Ambervals6,
I'm not going to comment on whether or not that looks fake or not, you either need more photos or need to see it in person to really be 100% sure.
But in regards to the sim tray, it is on the top (like that photo) for the S6 Edge since they obviously cant fit it on the side
Cheers

Few steps to avoid such purchase.
1. Check download mode. Switch off the phone than press vol. down+home+power. You should see samsung download mode. No fake can have that.
2. Super Amoled screen. Check black colors, should be completely black, like screen switched off. No fake can have that.
3. Check camera, super fast auto focus and picture resolution.
4. *#0#* samsung test menu.
5. Oleophobic screen coating. Fakes usually got them very bad.
And the last but very good test. Connect to kies (smart switch) and see how its detected. No fake can emulate s6 in kies (smart switch)
This actually true for most samsung flagships.
BR

I know how to find out once I have the phone in my hand but this ebay seller with 600+ 100% positive feedback, had 10 for sale for 378$ each and asked him to send picture of real phones. Found out he sent pics from the web again so I decided not to pull the trigger. Prolly fakes.

The normal S6 has it on the side. Only the S6 Edge has it in the top.
But be careful anyway.

Just wondering where the next best place to get a GT 10.1 in Europe is, now that it has been banned in most countries. I live in the UK.

The Netherlands.
you think people will still be able to ship them over here? from Ebay?
hopefully at a decent price of course!
Have you tried buying one from PC World? http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/tablets/889_7505_70535_xx_xx/xx-criteria.html
is this what happened thanks to apple law sue? If so that really sucks, try ebay or amazon
I did originally get my tab from pcworld.co.uk BUT the box wasnt sealed. i think it had already been opened so i had it picked up today for a replacement to be sent out. I hope i get a replacement before they are banned nationwide :/ they said another one should be sent out by the end of the week. Does anyone know when this ban starts? is it immediately?
if not cheers guys i will try both those options!
The security seals on my box had been replaced indicating that it had been opened, I think it was likely due to the unit having an update applied after being boxed (hoping that was all it was).
Sent from my HTC Desire
ah ****. maybe i shouldnt have sent it back then!
My box was open as well so I took it back in pc world and they could not find another box perfectly sealed so I guess its because Samsung put touchwix after it was boxed...

crap! should have posted on here first. bad news if my replacement doesnt get shipped out today i fear that i might not be able to get one due to the ban!
I bought from PC world, and also had 2 layers of security stickers, and the update had been applied
Same here. I got my 16GB from PC world and it had two layers of security tags.
That sucks! I am travelling from NY to London this afternoon. I could have brought one for u!
Thanks seanmack, but i think i will have to wait :/
i phoned pc world today and they didnt say anything about it being banned. according to them i should have a replacement shipped out by friday. maybe it'll take a while before the ban kicks in? i hope so!

You've already made the purchase. The ban shouldn't affect you. It only affects new sales.
Same here guys, the box had a new set of security seals over the old ones, everything else was intact.
Given apple has a patent over the rectangle shape, does it now mean that my tab has gone up or down in value?
IMHO the ban is unlikely to be in place for long, Samsung needs to present its case yet

My concern though us continuing support from both Samsung and the Rom developers here on xda, if there are less tabs about, is that going to have a negative effect?

I'm sure anyone who sees the Ipad and Tab next to each other will see enough difference, so I can't wait to see Samsung make its case. Pictures can be so deceiving.... Some genius posted a picture of an Ipad and a Tab next to each other to show how similar they are...a Tab 7 that had been enlarged to look as big as the Pad! The Tab 7 was also shown in portrait mode, with just enough icons to look like the pad; no widgets. People can be really dumb.
Bloody gutted, I was holding out for the 32gb to be released tomorrow and was going to get one after work.
Guess it will make people walking into a store and seeing the TAB & iPad then considering purchasing the TAB only to find out none available so will go for the iPAD

Purchased/Initial Impressions

Well I picked up my Edge today. For reference it's the CDMA variant (Au) , not the WCDMA version (docomo). To my complete surprise, for pre ordering the store actually gave me a free Samsung Flip Wallet that normally costs over ¥6000, AND I got ¥5000 worth of store credit (points). Paying in one installment (¥92000) brought the total points to about ¥14,200, plus the case means almost ¥20,000 of "freebies".
Anyway the phone is very very nice. I bought a white Korean Note 4 a few weeks ago and absolutely despised it. The build quality in particular. The Edge is much better, perhaps because the screen slides off, and because it doesn't have that hideous double tapered silver stripe on the frame. I'd been using a Galaxy Alpha for about two months as well and despite my liking the size factor of the Alpha, the Edge really is fantastic.
I'm a bit annoyed by two things however:
1. All notifications appear on the side display. This is particularly annoying when you're trying to type or click something that is covered up by the panel. For example you get a notification and the panel turns on and actually layers itself on top of the content underneath. It's not as if the keyboard or whatnot will resize.
2. The side display will remain blank if you're using an application, and that makes it seem a bit as if the screen isn't being used completely.
Anyway I would be happy to answer any questions people might have. For reference if anyone is thinking about importing one, MAKE SURE it is there docomo version as Au will NOT unlock any devices. Furthermore if you do get the docomo version make sure the seller has unlocked it, as there is a ¥3000+ fee to do so; it's not unlocked by default. Finally make sure the seller has paid for the device in FULL as Japan has ESN slates as well these days and if they paid in installments (resulting in ¥0 upfront cost) and don't pay the bill, you may wind up with a locked device.
I have attached a pic of the box, in comparison to the (Korean) Alpha box.
Sorry for the horrible quality. The forms don't let you upload larger file sizes...
wow congrats congrats are u the first consumer to own it? hahahaha.
how much total did you spend?
ok you mentioned you have a note 4 as well, did you compare the screens side to side? what can you say?
does it come with the scrolling animation that seems to "race" to the edge screen?
spen works as good as in the note 4?
last question: how many stocks left? lol
---------- Post added at 06:12 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:07 PM ----------
oh and i forgot, is the gear vr released there too? can you confirm if it doesnt fit at all or not compatible?
Hello. I was the first person at the store to buy it, but there were at least two others filling out contract paperwork to get one so definitely not the only person.
For reference the Note 4 is *NOT* being released here, ONLY the Edge. This is quite bizarre, as every previous Note was released, and given that Samsung itself allegedly can't make more than 1 million of these units before the end of the year, I don't know why it deemed this a good decision (supply issues). Then again it's possible that either not many Japanese buy phablets, or it wants to guarantee the full production run sells out.
Anyway I spent ¥92,880. This is roughly $900US. In Japan there are only two options for purchasing a phone: either pay in full (no carrier subsidiary) or pay 0 upfront and have a monthly installment. A discount of about ¥2000 is applied to the contract each month for two years either way, and in this fashion the carriers claim the price is actually lower than the full retail.
Unfortunately I don't have the Note 4 next to me anymore, having sold it a few days ago. When I had the Note 4 however, I did compare it to the Edge working store display model and it looked essentially the same, though obviously a bit smaller.
I'm not sure what scrolling animation you mean, but it does scroll up and down, yes.
As for the stock... The store I went to was one of the larger chain electronics stores in Tokyo and it looked like they only had about 10 units on the shelf. Of course some might have been in the back for pre orders. And this was only Au. Docomo may have had more inventory.
The Gear VR isn't on sale here to my knowledge, and there doesn't seem to be any press material for it either. I don't think it's been released outside Korea.
that is weird to sell the note edge first instead of the note 4 hehe.
anyway, here is the animation i was talking about invisiblesense posted it in another thread
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1sLZHppKEw
Oh I meant I sold the Note 4 first.
If you're referring to the animation at the beginning of the video, yes it does do that. It actually works better than on the original demo models that were put on display here back in mid September.
Those demo models had one odd point: The "About Phone" option was nowhere to be found on the Settings menu. I tried finding it for several minutes but couldn't.
Everything works rather smoothly now.
great congrats im sure a lot of people like me are jealous haha. even hte note 4 is not released here in saudi
That's great, im in the US still waiting for a date. The $900 price sounds nice tho.
Well $900 is more or less now much all phones cost here these days. So it's actually not much more expensive than the Note 3 was in Japan last year.
I think the FCC certified the Edge this past week so it should probably release within the next few weeks.
Congrats! Which color did they have in the store and which one you selected? Can you post a picture?

Nothing in Japan is sold SIM free from the carriers. The Au version, which I have, cannot be unlocked. The docomo version can be unlocked by docomo for about $35. It must be done at the store however and thus if you buy one make sure to verify the seller has unlocked it AND paid for it in full or else you risk ESN problems.

Yes it has a notification light to the left of the earpiece. The Edge panel can scroll up and down, so it's not a problem if the list is longer than the space available. Yes I've used SwiftKey, but when activated the Edge panel will actually place itself over the keyboard...
As for the person who asked about stocks. I will check and get back to you.

I hope you don't mind answering some questions I had - apologies if you have already answered any.
1. Now that you've had the phone for a day, what are your thoughts on the Edge screen?
Have you experienced any accidental launching of apps?
2. Since you also had Note 4, does this feel ackward to handle?
3. How is the battery life so far?
4. Is the band around the phone made of metal or plastic?
5. Overall, are you impressed with it?
6. Anything you don't like about the note edge thus far?
Many thanks in advance!

Can't say I'm surprised, although it is disappointing. Apparently LG's decision was because they think Europeans don't like big screen phones. Hopefully, if there is a European release it won't have reduced storage like the LG V10.

I'm *really* hoping that Clove don't jack up the price to beyond reasonable. I mean they're providing 2 years warranty with it and are importing them too but if it's astronomical they'll only sell a handful if that and I don't know if it would even be worth it for them. I do hope it's fairly priced. Aside from that I'm going to check amazon.de and amazon.fr and I'll need to check my phone insurance will cover it since it won't be a UK released phone.
Such a shame LG aren't releasing it in the UK yet again....
Anyone know how one would approach the warranty situation if it's bought from Amazon.de or.fr? I'd guess just sending it back to Amazon wouldn't be too difficult within the normal warranty period for the device?
Waiting patiently for clove to release details also. With the debacle that is the note 7, I'm hoping a non UK release decision gets rethought.

AT&T Will Let Customers With Replacement Galaxy Note 7s Swap Out Their Devices

Bad news for Samsung keeps on coming
AT&T will allow any of its customers with replacement Samsung Galaxy Note 7 devices to swap them out for a different smartphone, the company tells The Verge. The move follows Sprint's decision to let its customers return replacement Note 7s for a device from a different manufacturer on the heels of a replacement Note 7 catching fire on a plane earlier this week. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission has opened an investigation into the fire.
At this rate it's likely that Verizon and T-Mobile won't be too far behind in offering to swap out replacement Note 7 devices. With the uncertainty around the safety of the Note 7, offering a full exchange is the easiest way to ease the worries of consumers until the CPSC completes its investigation. If you're an AT&T or Sprint customer, you can take your replacement Note 7 back to the carriers' respective retail stores and exchange the devices for another smartphone of your choosing.
http://www.theverge.com/circuitbrea...tt-samsung-galaxy-note-7-replacement-exchange
Interesting. Not sure what i would do. So far i am enjoying my replacement note 7. If it comes to it i guess i will have to make a decision but i need more info before making that move. Its a shame, Samsung makes good stuff, its unfortunate they are having these issues. We shall see

Yeah I also called. The rep put me on hold to do some research on it and read it . It's something all reps doesn't know about yet. You have to the end of the month to do so. I have the option to switch it out to another device or just return it for a free refund. He made sure that was stated on my account for me to not have problems.

Yep, it's probably craziness in the near future for us, all over again. All four carriers are allowing an exchange now, Ihttps://www.google.com/amp/www.theverge.com/platform/amp/circuitbreaker/2016/10/7/13202250/att-samsung-galaxy-note-7-replacement-exchange
I don't see a future with note 7 in hand. I do love the phone., hope it's not recalled again but its not looking good.
At leaset in the next few weeks we will have a few more phone choices...... unlike last month. I am thinking of.jumping to the V20 if a 2nd recall happens
This really sucks because I've fallen in love with my Note 7. There's not even any other phone on AT&T that I would get with the exception of the S7 edge. I'm really hoping this guy turns out to be a scam artist.

Carriers must know something we don't... I think if there was any chance of this being fake they wouldn't have reacted this way so quickly. I think they know something we don't.

I know. I might jump ship. The carrier's have to know something. Since when does AT&T reach out to Android Central to tell them they are also on board with the device turn in.
I feel there is little choice but to change. It's only a matter of time before the next report of a burning replacement and good luck selling this second hand in the future . I will try the v20. I wish I had kept my Note5 and not lost $350 on selling it.

I've been thinking the same thing all day. A CSPC official said in an article that if the phone was a replacement one that there will more than likely be another recall.

and here i am completely unable to even buy a note 7. AT&T keeps telling me no since i opted for the refund instead of a loaner phone. I fumed so much over that.
Not even sure which phone to go with. The Note 7 was the only phone that checked all the boxes. I sold my S7 Edge to get it, and I am not going to go buy another one.
-big screen
-water resistance
-expandable storage
-fast charging
-no on screen buttons
Not necessarily guys, relax. They may be doing this just to cover their own ass. I would like to believe that if anything real serious was known an announcement would be made my Samsung.
We shall see i the days to come. Samsung reacted quickly the 1st time, lets see what happens

I just feel this phone will be at the bottom.of the pile like a non flagship budget. For cases, accessories, updates ect... . Not many people are on board with the note 7, if there is no recall not many will be on board with all the bad press. So why would anyone put any effort or invest money/more products into the note 7. Speaking. Of, we will surely not see a functional.curved glass SP. In my line of work tempered sp is a must. One reason why I may go v20, same.screen real estate as the note 7 but not curved so SP will actually stay on.
The note 7 and bogo deal was the only reason I upgraded and added a phone to my plan. Samsung had no other device I want so now I may get screwed out of the bogo and have to pay more each month than I had originally planned and I can't take back my note 5 now, which I gave to our functioning disabled son
Its absolutely tragic that this is happening. I really wanted this device to be my go to for the next couple of years. Its my first phone since the Note 4 was released and its a beast! I guess in the race to create a flagship like this Samsung has finally cut too many corners. It seems to me that the inherent design of the battery and the chassis just aren't optimal. They should have spent a bit more time on the battery enclosure and possibly reduced the battery capacity slightly to compensate for the tight tolerances. Im not even really sure that would have done anything to help. But anyhow, I think the rest of the community will probably feel the pain. I have already started looking at other devices, leaning (for the first time in 8 years) towards another iPhone. Or I can go to the Pixel xl. Everything other than the Note 7 released this year has been such a let down though.

I'm in the exact position bro. Wow off topic but I just took my phone in the shower with me and obviously it got soaked and now the loud speaker sounds all distorted...

For sure! Yikes, I believe that steam and heat actually causes the rubber seals to loosen a bit. Its one of the only ways that you can actually get water damage on these devices other than taking them too deep in the water. Sorry bud, Im sure you can still give it back though when/if you decide too. lol
So it's not normal for the loudspeaker to sound like crap after? It seems like it's back to normal now.

Yes it is normal until it dries out.

Who's gonna keep using their Note 7?

There's absolutely no other phone I want, so I'm seriously considering not turning my phone in and continuing to use it. Plus I'm not at all happy with the compensation of a $25 credit. What I would deem fair is allowing me to "use" an S7e or ANY phone I want until a suitable replacement phone (S8, Note 8, etc.) becomes available and then turning in the loaner for the better phone. Anyway... anyone else going to chance it and just keep on using their Note 7?

I really like the phone. But, it's not worth risking my life and property for.
Just got my replacement in the mail last Thursday. It's been working just fine. Doesn't get hot or anything with heavy use. I'm going to continue using my revised note 7 till they try to force me to deactivate it
Ive had a rough time getting a replacement, so ive been looking into the pixel xl or just snag a nexus 6p for cheap. Its not worth risking to me.

I'm going to keep mine because I have not had any issues and do not want to get a new phone. This mostly due to how terrible the corporate sprint store near me is. I had to go into the store 3 times to get a replacement.
The only problem (aside from the whole catching fire thing) is I doubt they'll be working on any software updates for the Note 7 now. No Nougut for the Note 7?
Sent from my SM-N930P using Tapatalk
I really wish there were better options out right now I would switch in a heart beat. Unfortunately there's nothing even close out right now or coming out in the next few weeks. If they force us to move on I'll probably go with the v20 or 7 edge.

I upgraded from a Note 3 to a Note 7. I need a Note with Micro SD card slot. I went on Ebay today and bought the best Note 4 I saw as a backup plan. I still have the original recalled Note 7 and plan to keep it for now. But like kstephens98 said, it won't get updates. And who's gonna wanna continue development here? I think I'll probably use the Note 4 until (hopefully) the Note 8 comes out. I just hope I can still get a full refund if it comes down to that. There's no other new phone out there that I would be interested in.
there is no competition.
i'll hold it until they have another fixed batch or until the Note 8.

Absolutely keeping mine. It's the best phone I've had, it's the phone I want to have, and I have absolutely no issues with it. No overheating. Doesn't even get warm.

As much as this comment exactly describes how i feel i have to return the phone. This is the hsrdest decision. Even harder than returning the first one cause last tine i knew it would be conning back. But it is now giing to be gone forever.
The main reasons are these
1) the phone cost $900. If i keep it i cannot get a new one probably ever.
2) development Will be non existent.
3) no resale value at all in the rare chance i could afford another one.
4) my husband will refuse to let me keep it even if i wanted to ignore 1-3
I was hoping for a new batch but from what I've read Samsung has officially dropped the note 7 all together.
Out the money for my case and have a gear vr which i cannot use. THIS SUCKS

Just an FYI just got this tidbit from Sprint Chat:
"Daniel M:*You can check the availability of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 with our Telesales team as the device is not available online and we are trying to get it back soon but any date is not confirmed."
was also confirmed by Telesales
If they get the note 5 back, I'd take that. I honestly don't think PHYSICALLY the note 7 is that different. On top of that, the Note 5 is honestly the best alternative. As sad as it is to say that a year old phone is the best alternative...it really, honestly is. I can deal without the USB-C, I can even deal with the lack of SD Card support(I haven't used an SD card in ages as long as there's a 64gb version). The water resistance would be nice...but after owning the S5, it was more.....convenient than anything. The "IF it drops in the water I don't have anything the worry about" feeling. I took underwater pics once just to say I did and could but....not like I'm gonna go swimming with that bad boy in my pocket lol.
Lastly, and most importantly for me, is the S-Pen. Unlike a good number of people, I actually use my....a lot. Which I find either people use it A LOT, or never lol. Anyway, if/when the Note 5 becomes available again, then I'll go back to that. But this Note 7 really was the PERFECT phone.
Water Resistance
S-Pen
AMAZIN screen to body ratio
iris scanner is way more functional than I anticipated
just the right about of edge on the screen
THE SCREEN PERIOD lol
the camera was near flawless in my opinion
everything about this phone......
If only Samsung wouldn't have rushed things. I think this phone would have beat out the iPhone anyway. Thing is, people who buy iPhones, buy iPhones. Getting them to switch is difficult because they're usually invested in apple products. iPads, Macbooks, lightning adapters, etc. People who buy Android phones are usually invested in it. Samsung people usually have Samsung Tablets, enjoy the gmail/google apps integration, enjoy the mass amount of free apps from the app store lol. This makes me want to cry lol
Went ahead and exchanged mine for an S7 Edge. It's a very nice phone too. Plus I didn't use the S-Pen like I thought I would.
In addition, Got two free gifts for my first note and my replacement note and now I've been approved for my S7 Edge. Three gifts, one purchase.
Anyone thinking of trading it in and doing the gift thing, sorry, it ended Oct 9th I believe.

They would end it just before they got destroyed with people switching and double dipping lol
I am going to keep mine. I still have my old Note 5, 4 and 3 so I have options.
Just got a text from sprint giving me 15 days to return my note to avoid a non return fee

ugh. I am going to call the corp guys tomorrow when I have time to ask what they are going to let me get away with. I am leaning like some others to the LG V20, but since it doesn't come out until the 28th it's outside a 15 day window. Would go without phone/phone payments and a Note 4 I pick up used for now if it meant using my upgrade later.
already sent my old phone back to them, as required to not get charged. So can't go back to that. After thinking about it, the S7 or S7E is a horrible choice since they will be replaced soon and then I'll be pissed I just got an old model.

Ditto....like most of you I'm paying the extra few bucks a month to upgrade with each new release so I'll hang on to my 7 til Sammy drops a new flagship.

I am going to keep using mine. There is NOTHING else that is even close to the Note 7. All of us who own the phone knows it is the sweetest one out there. I had considered the LG V20, but I would feel as though I had an inferior phone; judging by the reviews.
The reason I am here today is to root the phone to prevent Samsung from sending some type of kill update.
