[Q] 1 or 4 cores - Wear OS Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So it appears the samsung gear live and possibly other models come with a 4 core cpus inside, however, only 1 of the cores is active at all times. In theory, would it be better to run 4 cores at 300 MHz each or single core at ~1GHz?

Does the Nexus 7 have something over the Prime in regards to GPU?

I could have sworn during the I/O conference it as stated that the Nexus 7 has a 12 core GPU that was separate than the 4 core CPU and that someone said the Tegra 3 in the Prime has the CPU and CPU combined.
am i incorrect?
or is the Nexus 7 and Prime Tegra 3 CPU and GPU exactly the same?
As far as the quad core cpu, and 12 core gpu are configured it should be the same. But the cpu on the nexus is actually clocked lower then the prime.
As far as I know they are the exact same silicon containing 4 CPU cores and 12 GPU units but with different clock rates. The T30 in the Prime has 25% higher GPU clock rate compared to the T30L in the Nexus 7.
I don't think the difference is too significant. Much uglier is that the T33 in the Infinity has the same GPU speed as the T30 but is trying to push 2.25x as many pixels as the Prime or the N7.

I've read conflicting information about this, but I was wondering, what type of architecture does the Processor(s) in the Nexus 10 use?
Most places list it as dual-core, which I'm assuming just means 2 cores on 1 chip. Some places and people mention 2 separate CPU's (as in, 2 separate A15 cores)
Which is it? For some reason I kind of like the way 2 separate cores sounds...
It is a Samsung Exynos 5 5250, which is a dual-core A15.
Two cores, one chip.

Samsung just launched a new processor line up called Exynos5 Octa the story is still developing but the following are some details that are out
Samsung unveiled a brand new processor that will power its future mobile devices. Dubbed “Exynos5 Octa,” the new chip features two sets of four cores and a 28nm process that will eventually drop down to 10nm in the coming years. The chipset provides significant performance enhancements over Samsung’s previous-generation quad-core Exynos processor, which is now found in more than 53 million mobile devices. The company also said that the new Exynos5 Octa has a power-saving mode that helps improve battery life by reducing consumption when devices are idling and in other situations where full processing power is not required.
So between Exynos 5 Quad which is an A15 32nm chip that's supposed to be used in the SGS4, Krait v3 which is 15% faster version of S4 Pro, and now Octa, Nvidia may as well pack up their marbles and go home.

8 cores..wow...overkill.
It wasnt long ago (less than a year?) That reviewers were stating quad core is abit of a gimmich right now on phones and tabs etc.

The 8 cores will be device into 2 sub 4 cores - 1 sub 4 core will be an A7 1.2GHZ quadcore processor for lighter task and the second sub core will be 4 core A15 1.6GHZ of above quadcore processor.
The same will be built on 28 NM technology and later 10 NM technology over a period of time.
Again these are not confirmed specs

8 cortex a7 are the same power comsuption than 4 cortex a8, the same or less that 4 a9, and less that 4 a15, and have more ghz in total, so it would be a good idea to make this, mtk make cortex a 7 processors and the 4 cores device with it are the same speed as google nexus 4, so i think that it will be a good idea

sorry, but mediatek stoled my idea, they are doing an exellent job with not more cores, it is same performance with more cores with more battery saving and making a good architecture no like amd, amd isnt bad, they chipsets are wrong built, bulldozer stink

[Q] apps that monitor cpu

Anyone knows why all apps i downloaded (cpu-z, monitor cpu, setcpu) only show max mhz at 1300?
i have a sm-g900h with arm15 cortex r2p3 , i understand that is an octa core with 4 cores at 2.1 ghz and 4 at 1.5
It is a phone problem or all these app don´t support the system?

It's likely most app do no "fully" support this new octa-core. I would suspect they only show the little CPU 4 cores @ 1.5GHz, however seeing 1.3GHz as the max is weird. In S4 octa-core, the max frequencies was used by both CPUs and frequencies below 600Mhz where meant to be used by little core (600Mhz being 1.2GHz on the little CPU, 700Mhz being exactly that on the big CPU), so there might be some similar tricks on the new S5. This would mean the kernel would only show 4 cores at any point in time.
Have you tried Android Tuner, it can adapt to any number of cores automatically (a little down arrow allows to switch to multi-core control) ? If you try it, can you post a screenshot here? I intend to buy the Galaxy S5 with 8 cores for testing purposes, so I'd be interested by first-hand screenshots, if any. You can check and post screenshots of the main CPU tab and also the Times tab which will show available cores timings for each frequencies.
