Hi guys,
in the last few days I had a look at various type of "chinese smartwatches" mounting Android Lollipop 5.1. I'd like to buy one of them for curiosity and for trying to build some apps.
I have a question about the software: as they mount Android Lollipop and not Android wear, is there the possibility that they will be updated, I think to Android 6.0 or something like that? Or better, is there any Android wear custom ROM to flash on them? Thank you for your replies guys
Update info
The update to Android marshmallow would be possible but I do not think any manufacturer decides to do an update, the smartwatch come out with Android lollipop to recycle code and have greater compatibility with older apps.
In future it may be possible to have a custom rom with android wear but will be a long and not compatible with all Chinese devices, when I have not seen a single port on a smartwatch that runs Android 5.1
I need to install an Android version that uses Dalvik/Java and not ART, any way this can be done? And/or "dual boot" your phone?
No. You can use an Android emulator on your PC, on the other hand. Buying an older phone like the G2 would make more sense to me.
Maybe, but dunno if the device drivers or chipset would support anything older. Who knows, you might be able to compile a CyanogenMod build based on KitKat or something.
As mentioned above, use an emulator or dual boot Android on PC. Check out the Android x86 project and the official Android emulator.
Hello everyone
I have since yesterday a Joying JY-UO135N4-OBD, MCU number: TP6735D 0.43 under android 8.1 that I want to upgrade to android 9 because my OnePlus 6 is under 9 and can not connect USB on the Joying.
Is there an update?
Thank you for your answers.

No there is no update and I'm for 99,5% sure there will not come an update anymore now that the new Intels are coming in and the PX5s are slowly phased out.
Eunavi claims they will have a 9.0 firmware for their PX5 units this month. Maybe others will update as well.

I'm a little disgusted to learn that, I should have better information before.
Is it possible to make my Joying 8.1 compatible with my OP6 Pie in another way?
In bluetooth everything works very well but in usb (for android auto and mirror function) my OP6 sees the joying but the joying does not connect to the OP6.
Thank you for your skills
OP6 Android 9.0 with Z-Link is working on the new intel joying units....

I believe you can attempt using the trial version of Headunit Reloaded Android Auto and if this works out. You can try out using the full version.

I can confirm this to work with Pixel 2 running Android 9.0 using both wired and wireless.
It's not installing Android 9.0 directly onto the head unit but it will mirror any source android phone as long as it's 4.1+.

The OP asks whether he can upgrade his PX5 to Android 9. Not whether he can use an Android 9 phone/device with his unit.
That's a big difference and mirroring your phone to your head unit might be enough, but it is always a big functionality limitation when comparing it with the full head unit functionality.
For me the only concern with older Android versions it the lack of support when it comes to security patches by those Chinese suppliers. Joying (and all the others) simply stop supplying security updates even though the Android 8.0 version on the PX5 is still fully supported.
Using Android auto or headunit reloaded does not change that. It might even make it worse (and especially with z-link)

I did specifically reply to OP's message, to be more clear:
Is it possible to make my Joying 8.1 compatible with my OP6 Pie in another way?

But seeing that the OP may be staying with his current PX5 I took the liberty of suggesting an alternative to Z-link. Seeing as I have hit the same snag as him with my PX5 and Pixel 2 running Android 9.0. So as a reiteration to the previously mentioned:
Is it possible to make my Joying 8.1 compatible with my OP6 Pie in another way?

You are completely right. I had overseen his second question. sorry.
Headunit reloaded should/might work.
Z-link only works with phone versions up to 8.1 with the PX-5.
The new 9853i (8.1) does work with Android 9 phones. It might be worth trying to install that z-link version onto the PX5 to see whether that works.

I thank you all for your answers.
I made a cross on a hypothetical update of the PX5 but if an application can replace Z-link to run my OP6 pie it would be great.
Or a custum ROM ....

I have an OnePlus 6T and I have the 10.1" octacore 4/64 GB px5 8.1 joying unit and I contacted them about it. They say they are working on an update to fix it. So... We shall see, not holding my breath. I plugged in my backup Moto E4 and the works with z link.
What I'm trying to figure out is what update my unit needs since they have their Intel altimont update on their site and I'm not sure if that's compatible.
Edit: ok so I see that I have a QD unit, I reached out to joying to see if there's any recent updates
Hi, is it possible to update a firmware/ROM from android 8.0 to 8.1 using Joying web updates? My HU is Xtrons MCU KEQ, but is essentially a Joying hardware with px5 4/32g.
Thanks in advance

No.
The PX5 8.0 firmware is an ARM64 android. The intel airmont 8.1 firmware is an x86_64 android.
They are completely incompatible. And then there is the differences in other hardware requiring other drivers.

Ok, thanks.. I suspect that.. ja
Im lookin to replace my com.syu.amp from my actual 8.0 system. How can I get a new/different one? I saw that Joying is showing a new parametric EQ in the 8.1 set. And the HU dont have a DPS hardware. So.. Is there a way to take some Archives from android 8.1 to use it on 8.0?
Thanks in advance Surfer!

I don't think so.
And the com.syu.eq is the "visual" equalizer. I'm afraid the difference in hardware is too big to make it work. And I also think that other libraries and drivers are required.

My problem is that EQ is not doing that would be at all. 7 bands and and every one of this acts as HPF. Its imposible get a good spot.
On system/priv-app/ there are 2 folders related to audio, one is the 180000000_com.syu.amp that inside has an .apk called AMP.
And de second folder is com.syu.eq that has the Eq executable.
Maybe trying with the last Joying web firmware to px5 from november 2018? What do you think?
Thanks again for your help.

Sorry. I really don't know. I already mentioned my doubts and have no further experiene with it, and know nobody who has.
Would it be possible to see if the Z-Link apk (from new Intel Joying) can work on the 8.0 (PX5). If someone can extract the apk and share it from the device itself? I've tried downloading the firmware, and extract the system.img but I can't go any further than that for now. I need to figure out how to extract ext4 images on a mac.
Hello everyone,
I have been using android head unit in my car for the past two years and I am very happy with it and I can’t imagine that I could live with standard (non android) head units.
However, I always like to use the latest android version and I am hoping that the idea that just came to my mind works. I just knew about the new method of installing android roms using GSI file (generic system image) which is a universal android image that can be installed in any android phone (mostly the new phones). There is an app in play store called Treble Check which simply tells you whether your device support GSI installation or not.
My question: is this method possible with car android head units in general?
Also is it possible in my case with below specifications:
Device: PX5 MTCD
Android version: 8.0
Ram: 4GB
GPS slot is not available, just normal SD card slot.
Magisk root is available
Recovery is available
Checked with Treble Check and says my device support it.
If this is possible then we can celebrate with android 10 right away ???.
I just afraid to brick my device thats why I asked before doing any thing.
Thanks ?
No ideas? ?

This will not work. An Android head unit in your car is a combination of a "normal" Android device, where they added hardware like amp and radio chips, and communication to your car. This all controlled by the MCU hardware and binary.
If all (or at least one) manufacturer would use the Android automotive project, there might have been a chance.
However, all of this hardware related programming stuff is closed source and the manufacturers do not seem to want to switch from their old legacy MCU model with closed source drivers, to Android automotive.
Edit: I think your Treble Check simply checks the Android being used and the "normal" Android hardware. I guess it doesn't even see the radio chip, amp chip and CAN bus as it doesn't see the MCU either. I guess it is completely blind to those components.
Apologies in advance for being a n00b to all of this…
I have a PX5(1280x480) head unit for FJ Cruiser, currently running Android 9 on MCU version MTCE_KSP_V3.38_1 with build number starting with rk3368 from the seller (no mods). I'm having issues with some apps now displaying Black Screens when they worked in the past. The app I'm most concerned about is GAIA GPS, the app launches but the section of the screen that should be showing the map is just black. Similarly the Tidal app after showing the boot screen just goes black. My best guess is the apps updated at some point and may not be compatible with Android 9 any longer.
Can I upgrade this HU model to Android 10?
I found the yandex files for RockChip PX5 Android 10 and it shows no files for KSP.
Do I need to update or replace the MCU to be able to upgrade to Android 10?
