FASTER GPS LOCK FOR ROOT Users - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 General

First, this is only for rooted users and I claim no responsibility of credit for the gps.conf files I am using. All credits go to @rirozizo and the BlackICE Team. I simply put the flashable zip files together for an easy install.
Back in September of last year, author Jimmy McGee posted the following.
http://www.xda-developers.com/gps-lock-faster-xdatv/
This file allows your phone to get a fix almost instantly and will continue to get more accurate as the GPS uses more Satellites and gets a better fix on your location. It does not seem to effect the final accuracy, but just allows it to get a fix much faster at times.
I was asked to help a fellow member out by creating a zip file that he could flash to install the gps.conf file for his region as he was unsure how to copy it to the correct place and set the permissions etc. So I went ahead and did this for all of the available US regions and thought I would share it here.
Here are the files, you just put them on your phone and flash them like any other flashable zip. I created the specific region zips for the US and the removal zip which puts the original gps.conf back if you no longer want to use this.

GPS Fix Removal - Make sure you flash this before you flash a different region if you want to try different files to keep the original gps.conf intact.
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347757752
For any of you in other regions that want to use this, you can download your regions gps.conf file here.
https://app.box.com/s/w57s1v1n3hie7l5lk28i
Once you have your file, you can replace the gps.conf file in my zip with yours and use these for your region as well.
If you are unsure how to do this and would like to request another available region, let me know and I will include it here. Just go to the link above and tell me specifically which region you would like.

Just a note for everyone willing to flash the fix. You should only pick ONE that's CLOSEST to where you live/intend to spend your time. The closer the region is, the faster the connection will be to the AGPS server so that it can help you get a faster fix even more quickly.
Good Luck Navigating Everyone!

Than YOU sir for putting this together originally and making our GPS work even better! I am just trying to give back to the community any way that I can.

My only question is what region would Missouri be in?
Middle North or middle south
Can you flash both?

Lol download both and compare the files. You can probably combine the differences into one.

can i flash all of the fixes?

What @Compusmurf said about comparing them or just flash each one and see if one performs better than the other. It is just trying to use servers that are closer to you to give you better response times.

No, like my response above, the object is to use the servers closest to you so combining them all together would defeat the purpose.

I haven't seen anything that breaks it down specifically so for any of these areas that could be one or the other, just try both and see if one performs better than the other.
If you do try multiple you should flash the Remove Fix in between to keep the original gps.conf intact. I will add this to the OP.

Idaho will be north west which where in from

should work on all devices. So yes.

seeing that i'm geographicaly impaired i have to ask wich would be the best file for Puerto Rico?

Is there something wrong with the GPS on the Note 4?
I dont travel much outside of my town until I found out that the GPS is slow in locking in when you land at a new location.
What is going on with this Note 4?

It seems to be about the same as my Note 3 was but neither are what I would consider to be great. That is why this fix helps supplement the GPS and gives a faster lock.

JI2 (Vibrant's Sept. ROM) GPS Files

Hey all,
So I flashed Vibrant's JI2 to my Captivate today, and it didn't go so good... HOWEVER -- I took off all of the GPS files I could and put them in a ZIP. I don't know how to make a valid update.zip file, so I was hoping someone smarter than me could do that Then the rest of us could try out the latest "GPS fix" the Vibrant people are enjoying, perhaps?
not bad. i just pushed the files over. it locked in 2secs and was accurate to 50 meters(use to be 200 or more) i need to take a test drive with it.

50 meters is terrible! That is 164 feet... it should get down to 16 feet / 5 meters.
I just got done pushing them over via adb myself with JH7... looks good so far. Needs some serious track testing, though.
I found this link on how to make an update.zip:

Took a short drive and no offroading here. 50 is better than 200 and i was in my apartment.

I'm not seeing any improvement over JH7 with these files, and the included agpsd does not appear to run at all. Are you sure your lock in 2s was from a cold start, and not just using data from a prior session?

I noticed our Captivates have a /system/bin/gpsd directory, but I couldn't find one on the Vibrant.. only agpsd existed. The other "GPS fix" updates had gpsd/ directories... I guess the Vibrant does things quite differently? :-\
Can somebody test this on a Vibrant? I am curious to see if there is a difference.
So i flashed these gps files to my captivate and i got a lock in like 10sec, first time i have ever gotten my gps to work, even after exchanging my first captivate, but its behaving the same way my friends first vibrant did, the pointer flys all over the place jumping around from place to place, never staying on my location parse...lets just hope samsung finds a definitive fix for the gps issues on many SGS variants.
Getting ready to flash and test now. thank you for grabbing those files.
info
can i flash this file on my stock captivate thats without root?...thanks.
I just flashed this to my Vibrant. I will test it on the way home but I got 11 sats in view in just about 2 secs in my office which usually sucks. We'll see. Maybe cross post this over to the Vibrant forum and get some folks to test it.

GPSSamsungRestore: Official GPS fix?

Samsung USA has tweeted the Market availability of GPSSamsungRestore, a GPS optimization app. Tweets have indicated that it is for the Vibrant and Captivate:
http://twitter.com/samsungtweets
maybe , some one using AT&T can help and upload the apk maybe ?
Hmmmm... I assume that it is only on the market in the USA because I searched for it under the names GPSSamsungRestore, GPS Samsung Restore, GPS Restore, etc. and I cannot find it on the market here in Canada.
I am assuming that us poor Canadians will not see this app anytime soon but I have posted a question on the Samsung Mobile Canada facebook page and I will see if they answer it. I doubt it though cause they NEVER answer ANYTHING!!!
Sure would be nice if this is the "fix" weve been waiting for...

Right so I think what this app is for is to reset the gps so it works and then as time passes and it gets bad again you run the app again to start from scratch so it works again... Lather, rinse, repeat...
Im just guessing here and its not the greatest solution but if thats how it works it would be better than nothing...

Exactly. Samsung have probably been receiving complaints by many people who are gps "experts", so they wanted to provide support with an easy approach for dealing with them.
I wouldn't expect new drivers are anything like that, I'd simply expect it to reset the GPS setting file.

Is Samsung was receiving complaints from GPS "experts" then dont you think that these "experts" would have already stated "definitively" that the GPS cannot be fixed?
And if Samsung had been dealing with GPS "experts" then why would they release a software that would IMMEDIATELY be squashed by these same GPS "experts"?
I would like to think that Samsung may be finally listening to us all complaining and that this could even be just step 1 in the right direction to a useable GPS on this device. Wishful thinking I know but I sure hope so...

AGPS Patch - Need some testers for Official support

Well, my goal for the upcoming v2.0 of my aGPS Patch is to bring support to five more devices. This is one of the devices I selected!
I'm looking for some testers to see if the patch will effectively work.
It simply replaces gps.conf in /etc/ to be much better performing.
You can download v1.3 by clicking here.
To install, use Root Explorer or ES File Explorer to copy the new one over. Reboot. Give GPS a try! I recommend GPS Status. If your device uses ClockWork Recovery, you can simply flash the ZIP.
A reference thread can be seen at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1250226.
Also, I'd love for someone to send me the gps.conf currently on their device.
Thank you for assisting me in the determination if this version works.
Better performance? You mean faster located or accuracy?
It is just the aGPS?

Yes, and stabilized results. Users who would lose signal while traveling or at higher speeds, this tends to keep the lock consistent and constant.
Also, if you would send me your /etc/gps.conf I would appreciate it. Custom ROM's tend to not do much in the way of making a crappy situation better, but I'm curious.
Thanks for your interest in assisting!
This is my gps.conf from GDX.
I will test it in later 2hours time, still in the office now.
and i have no problem on the old file, i can get the location with 20secs,(normally within 10secs) with my Papago Navigator in open air.But yes, my GPS device is NEVER turn off.
Just the information how i use the GPS.
* I saw your another post, is this patch only for North America?
I am from Malaysia.

No, this is worldwide. I did two versions but that ended and I am only offering worldwide patches now. So, should work no matter where you're at.
I simple tried the new gps.conf. I don't have any positive feedback for you nor the negative. I don't really feel any useful compare with the original one. Maybe 2secs faster, i am not sure.
But in conclusion, it can be used and no problem for a short test. I might give more opinion for a longer try.

[FIX] Another WiFi Fix

Hello
Little history: I bought my phone yesterday, and i'm shocked with de poor wifi. So I back to the store do change the device, but th saleswoman said I can't change it, because of the contract that I've signed with Claro (Claro is one of the mobile operator in Brazil, and I bought this device through a fidelity plan). So I decide to fix or brick this **** and buy another. Fortunately, I think I was able to fix it and my pocket thanks it.
First of all, let's clarify somethings:
1 - I don't know a **** about developing, so don't blame me with don't work. I'm sharing this solution (that worked for me) because I'm extremely grateful to XDA since of my first day in Android. And to fix this **** that Sony makes (haha!)
2 - As if I say, it's worked for me; My Wifi is detecting more networks now and don't disconnect them. Range is better to.
3 - If I can, I'll help, but I don't know a **** about developing (again!), and I hope that the real developers will come here do help who needs.
4 - I'm in 12.0.A.2.254 firmware (rooted) (BL Locked - I'll unlock it later to teste custom roms; just waiting a feel days because of factory issues)
Ok, let's go
I did it:
1 - root following this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2405933
2 - I downloaded that Rom for Xperia L (I think that is the same wifi devices on both phones) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2419042
3 - extract the file 01_____C_n_T_JB_4.1.2_15.0.A.2.17_V1.zip\system\etc\firmware\wlan\prima\WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini and put in somewhere of easy acess
4 - copy to your phone through root explorer
5 - Reboots
AGAIN: I don't know how to developing; I don't know if it will blow my phone or whatever; I just works here.
Thanks to serajr, for his amazing rom for Xperia L (I had one, but a mother****er stole it. It's a great phone. Better camera than Xperia SP)
thanks to DooMLoRD, for allowing us to root this great device
and thanks to you, that you understand my bad english
***If it posted in wrong section, please move it***
***Sorry if I forget someone in credits, just thanks to all of developers involved in XDA***
Greetings
EDIT: Forget do upload the files. Idiot.

At the moment my Galaxy Note II gets 2 bars at 10m distance with 2 walls.
While Xperia SP gets only 1 (or no bars at all) at distance of just 5m and one wall.
Where?

I think it don't work for all devices, Like the lastest update solved the problem of wifi for a some peoples and not for other. Maybe something related to the region and the model of phone (5302/5303/5306/mh35)?

Curious to see which country with the G920I model gets updates first so I can flash that region's firmware in Odin. Australia will obviously be last as usual so I'm keen to get off this firmware ASAP and get onto one that doesn't block auto-rotate in the Gallery app

I got my device today, and there was already an update ready to be installed. BTW just checked my gallery app and it does rotate.

Interesting, are you on Indian firmware?
And regarding the auto rotate, it's been an issue on Samsung phones in Australia for years due to some lawsuit with Apple.

Can you advise your software details as the Australian variant hasn't had an update and I'd be interested to see the difference in software.
I wonder if the Edge has had an update as well?

No details on the changes, but it looks like Indian firmware has a build date of 31 March while everyone else is still the 7th of March.

Telstra is on the 3rd of March:

They have'nt specified anything specific to be non functional, so it will work on all 4G networks.

Yes, I am on the Indian firmware, which came right out of the box, got a small update yesterday thou. If our models are G920I then we should be able to flash any firmware for the same. My question is what is up with the regional locks? will that be a problem?
IS anyone here having the flash always on problem? mine is very dimly lit if you see it in the dark. very very dim, I have to try hard to observe it. Is it a major issue? are your devices doing the same?
am on a singapore version and i dont have the flash always on problem. battery life sucks though, coming from a OPO.

It's because of the crappy samsung apps running in the background .. Knox and ****. My flash is not that lit that it is noticeable... I have to look really hard. Very hard to see.. But it is glowing.. The technology must be this way I think

Apparently it is not a normal feature and samsung has been made aware of this issue and they are working on it. Saw this today on the xda channel.
Whew, just got this today.
Are there any custom ROMs for the S6 that are in development?

Nothing yet. Just the root. No roms.. Should take a month plus for proper custom rom support.
Anyone with an Indian G920I been able to root? My device bricked and I had flash the stock fw
Sent from my SM-G920I using XDA Free mobile app
