Well, my goal for the upcoming v2.0 of my aGPS Patch is to bring support to five more devices. This is one of the devices I selected!
I'm looking for some testers to see if the patch will effectively work.
It simply replaces gps.conf in /etc/ to be much better performing.
You can download v1.3 by clicking here.
To install, use Root Explorer or ES File Explorer to copy the new one over. Reboot. Give GPS a try! I recommend GPS Status. If your device uses ClockWork Recovery, you can simply flash the ZIP.
A reference thread can be seen at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1250226.
Also, I'd love for someone to send me the gps.conf currently on their device.
Thank you for assisting me in the determination if this version works.
Better performance? You mean faster located or accuracy?
It is just the aGPS?

Yes, and stabilized results. Users who would lose signal while traveling or at higher speeds, this tends to keep the lock consistent and constant.
Also, if you would send me your /etc/gps.conf I would appreciate it. Custom ROM's tend to not do much in the way of making a crappy situation better, but I'm curious.
Thanks for your interest in assisting!
This is my gps.conf from GDX.
I will test it in later 2hours time, still in the office now.
and i have no problem on the old file, i can get the location with 20secs,(normally within 10secs) with my Papago Navigator in open air.But yes, my GPS device is NEVER turn off.
Just the information how i use the GPS.
* I saw your another post, is this patch only for North America?
I am from Malaysia.

No, this is worldwide. I did two versions but that ended and I am only offering worldwide patches now. So, should work no matter where you're at.
I simple tried the new gps.conf. I don't have any positive feedback for you nor the negative. I don't really feel any useful compare with the original one. Maybe 2secs faster, i am not sure.
But in conclusion, it can be used and no problem for a short test. I might give more opinion for a longer try.

At least we know it's compatible, then. It didn't kill your phone's GPS. Didn't think it would anyway. If you have time, play with it. If not, thank you for helping.
Well, I have released official support with v2.0 as promised.

Samsung USA has tweeted the Market availability of GPSSamsungRestore, a GPS optimization app. Tweets have indicated that it is for the Vibrant and Captivate:
http://twitter.com/samsungtweets
maybe , some one using AT&T can help and upload the apk maybe ?
Hmmmm... I assume that it is only on the market in the USA because I searched for it under the names GPSSamsungRestore, GPS Samsung Restore, GPS Restore, etc. and I cannot find it on the market here in Canada.
I am assuming that us poor Canadians will not see this app anytime soon but I have posted a question on the Samsung Mobile Canada facebook page and I will see if they answer it. I doubt it though cause they NEVER answer ANYTHING!!!
Sure would be nice if this is the "fix" weve been waiting for...

I understand you can open the APK, but I thought that was only to remove/replace images

Right so I think what this app is for is to reset the gps so it works and then as time passes and it gets bad again you run the app again to start from scratch so it works again... Lather, rinse, repeat...
Im just guessing here and its not the greatest solution but if thats how it works it would be better than nothing...

I doubt GPS can be fixed as Samsung is showing every day

Exactly. Samsung have probably been receiving complaints by many people who are gps "experts", so they wanted to provide support with an easy approach for dealing with them.
I wouldn't expect new drivers are anything like that, I'd simply expect it to reset the GPS setting file.

Is Samsung was receiving complaints from GPS "experts" then dont you think that these "experts" would have already stated "definitively" that the GPS cannot be fixed?
And if Samsung had been dealing with GPS "experts" then why would they release a software that would IMMEDIATELY be squashed by these same GPS "experts"?
I would like to think that Samsung may be finally listening to us all complaining and that this could even be just step 1 in the right direction to a useable GPS on this device. Wishful thinking I know but I sure hope so...

I think that "experts" is a sarcastic way of talking about all the thread playing with setting that doesn't nothing but changing configurations at random and only A-GPS settings.
Hey guys and gals. I have gotten a lot of positive reports on the GPS functioning on Supernova and Phoenix so I took the files and created a flashable zip for your pleasure. I know there have been numerous supposed fixes in the past and I am not claiming this is it, but it does work on 2 of my ROMS so why not yours. Please keep this thread clean as I know you all love to trash supposed GPS fix threads. Everyone knows I am just here to help.
Pair this fix with one of these modems depending on your geographical location for best results. Mine is JK4, North Eastern US.
This is just a combination of extensive trial and error testing which has proven to work.
-Adam
You are a good sport mate to share this.
I tried it with Paragon and it seems to be working...not sure if it is as good as with Supernova itself but I will test a bit more.
Regards!
I was wondering if you would ever going to release this, haha. I'm trying a few ROMs this weekend before I flash Supernova (or Firefly). I'll post results later on if i can get it to work
Trying on FireFly now.
Do i need to clear GPS data after installing this?
used supernova and phoenix. all I can say adam may have the best fix for the gps. I always get 20m lock in 5-7 seconds. and the 10 meter lock. it never jumps around. everybody should try this
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
I have to say that Adam's GPS fix is no joke. I have been using his roms exclusively since is initial release of Phoenix, and now on Supernova 2.1 the GPS is phenomenal!!
On testing through sgs I received an average lock time of 3-8 seconds, 9 sats, range from 5 to 15 meters.
This is testing inside my house where previously it would take up to 10 min to lock, averaging 2-3 sats at best, and ranges from 15 to 100 meters!!
On google maps I receive an average position lock time of 8 seconds, within 30 meters of my position with direction being dead on.
On navigation, on a 12 mile trip, I did not loop or get thrown off track at all. Street names on the map showed up just before they came into viewing distance.
I may not have gotten quite as technical as some of you would like, but for all around functionality, it can't be beat. A HUGE thanks to Adam and his team for all of their hard work fixing what the manufacturers and service providers wouldn't take the time to.
I've had really good results using the GPS on Phoenix and Supernova. Quick locks, good accuracy and decent tracking.
I've been using phoenix 4.5, Adam's ROM w/ his GPS files/tuning, to track my running via Cardiotrainer and I've never had results so accurate.
For Comparison's sake, prior I used cognition 2.3 b6 and 2.3 b8 and the GPS was not as accurate.
Thanks a lot. The only time my GPS works is when I'm on Supernova or Phoenix.
I've flashed every rom available and Adams fix is by far, the best one available.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
I was on Phoenix and now I am on supernova. All I can say is I would have never consider using my cappy as my primary gps until I got adam's roms.
The gps performance is pretty amazing if you ask me.
Play with different modems to get best results.
Works excellent!
I'm a FireFly user. Just installed this fix and I'm impressed! Significantly improvement with GPS inside. Have to try it with the real driving.

Just a quickie question, does any of the current win 7 roms support agps for fast gps?
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA Premium App
id hazard a guess at saying yes it does, AGPS is just a way of assisting the device in locating you, it uses the network towers dotted about to do this.
WP can do this quite well even without a GPS signal, does it work in making a propper GPS lock quicker, no idea, seems pretty damn quick if you ask me, just several seconds most times
^^^ Now that´s a good question indeed.
When I tested some navigation software, the satfix was at least as fast as under WinMo. But, there is no such thing like "QuickGPS". Maybe it´s inside the system, as the previous poster mentioned?
Maybe a specialist will know...

i suspect it is built in, i think things like tilt, light sensor, compass etc are all under a single API, if a software calls for a function the API gives it as much info as it can based on all the hardware that it can provide

thx guys for the response. was just curious, as i am currently running android, and we all know that it does not have agps. cold locks on average take like a minute to minute and half. might switch to win 7 later for the faster gps, might the problem is the lack of any good gps apps like google maps!
Agps is not really helpful...

Having offline interests me a lot! I use Google Navigation and Google Maps right now but takes awhile to boot and locate. Not having to use data, I'm hoping, will lead to faster performance. Plus, I'm sure this could be used in other devices as well? I'm looking at my WiFi-only tablet as a 10" GPS if this works out =)

Navitel is the app that will be used for navigation. but navitel DOES NOT support .img maps. it does support .nm2 maps, and the key is to know how to convert those maps, and get rid of the errors...

Hello
Little history: I bought my phone yesterday, and i'm shocked with de poor wifi. So I back to the store do change the device, but th saleswoman said I can't change it, because of the contract that I've signed with Claro (Claro is one of the mobile operator in Brazil, and I bought this device through a fidelity plan). So I decide to fix or brick this **** and buy another. Fortunately, I think I was able to fix it and my pocket thanks it.
First of all, let's clarify somethings:
1 - I don't know a **** about developing, so don't blame me with don't work. I'm sharing this solution (that worked for me) because I'm extremely grateful to XDA since of my first day in Android. And to fix this **** that Sony makes (haha!)
2 - As if I say, it's worked for me; My Wifi is detecting more networks now and don't disconnect them. Range is better to.
3 - If I can, I'll help, but I don't know a **** about developing (again!), and I hope that the real developers will come here do help who needs.
4 - I'm in 12.0.A.2.254 firmware (rooted) (BL Locked - I'll unlock it later to teste custom roms; just waiting a feel days because of factory issues)
Ok, let's go
I did it:
1 - root following this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2405933
2 - I downloaded that Rom for Xperia L (I think that is the same wifi devices on both phones) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2419042
3 - extract the file 01_____C_n_T_JB_4.1.2_15.0.A.2.17_V1.zip\system\etc\firmware\wlan\prima\WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini and put in somewhere of easy acess
4 - copy to your phone through root explorer
5 - Reboots
AGAIN: I don't know how to developing; I don't know if it will blow my phone or whatever; I just works here.
Thanks to serajr, for his amazing rom for Xperia L (I had one, but a mother****er stole it. It's a great phone. Better camera than Xperia SP)
thanks to DooMLoRD, for allowing us to root this great device
and thanks to you, that you understand my bad english
***If it posted in wrong section, please move it***
***Sorry if I forget someone in credits, just thanks to all of developers involved in XDA***
Greetings
EDIT: Forget do upload the files. Idiot.

Well ok, you convinced me. I will try it out as well later tonight and will post results
At the moment my Galaxy Note II gets 2 bars at 10m distance with 2 walls.
While Xperia SP gets only 1 (or no bars at all) at distance of just 5m and one wall.

Well, in order to fix this problem, I searched the web a lot. I found many fix for it, but none of them works. I found a topic that says to overwrite this files and a lot of peoples saying that works, but not for me. So I tried this way and works.
I think it don't work for all devices, Like the lastest update solved the problem of wifi for a some peoples and not for other. Maybe something related to the region and the model of phone (5302/5303/5306/mh35)?
