My Note 4 is running the latest stock android 5. It has been previously rooted. however i went back to stock so i could run the encryption.
I have the phone and SD card encrypted and i know my password however the phone wont recognize the password. It has been working fine for 6 months encrypted.
Is there anyway to decrypt the sd card. without the phone. I know my password.
I just want to get all the photos and notes off of it.
Cheers.

Hi All,
I have an S5 - G900F running Android 5.0 stock and I would like to encrypt the SD card. As I am often forced to factory reset, sometimes because the phone boot loops I am not always in the position to decrypt the SD card first.
I would like to know: can I access and backup the encryption key for the SD card so I can access the data after a reset. Or failing that, some encryption software that can secure the whole card and works with fingerprint log in.
Thanks
John
So my camera went crazy and refused to start. So I reset my phone and the camera was working correctly only now my SD card isn't being read by the phone. It works in other devices. But whenever I put it in my phone is auto goes to the screen that says encrypt or decrypt SD.. And when I put any SD card in it does the same thing. And when I go to storage is says "Ready" under SD card. Is there a fix for this ID rather not reset but I will of I have too. And one had this happen to them
Update.... I clicked decrypt and it worked this time. For some reason I can't encrypt anymore. Oh well works now
Hi,
just bought the Huawei P8. Im wonder if my phone is now fully encrypted, including the SD Card.
1. Internal Storage
After factory reset there was no screen lock (just swipe to unlock). I clicked 'encrypt phone' and it took only a few minutes. AFTER that i could still swipe to unlock, there was no option to set a password during the encryption process. So I set the password afterwards. Now the pw must be entered to unlock the phone.
Does this mean the internal storage is now fully encrypted and can not be accessed without the password? Even though i did not set a password before the encryption?
What if someone where to remove the internal memory module from the phone?
Does the encryption encrypt ALL files in the internal storage or just certain areas?
2. SD Card
That one was strange, too. I clicked 'encrypt SD Card'. There i had to set a pw in advance.
But the encryption also took only a few minutes. That seems odd because the 64 GB SD Card was half full. This should have taken hours to encrypt.
Can I be sure alls files on the SD Card are fully encrypted now?
3. Why I am asking
Before I had the Samsung Galaxy A5.
When encrypting the device you had to set the pw in advance and it took much longer. That seems logical to me.
When encrypting the SD Card the phone asked me if I wanted to encrypt all files on the SD Card, including Fotos, Videos, MP3s etc. It warned me, that this might take a long time. Encrypting the SD Card with some 30GB on it took severeal hours. That also seems logical to me becaus SD Cards are much slower than the internal storage. So I am wondering why the Huawei P8 only took a couple of minutes for the SD Card.
Can someone please elaborate?
I am especially interested in having my photos (which save to the SD Card) encrypted so nobody can access them when my phone is stolen. I also have company emails and such on the phone.
Hi,
on internal storage... Data Partition would be encrypted. I am not sure if cache partition would also encrypted. File's from internal storage would be saved in Data, so all files are encrypted.
But SD-Card wouldn't be encrypted...it's only password protected. That's why it takes only few seconds to set the protection.
If you set a password for internal storage, you could choose to set the protection in the Boot process. So before the whole system boots up you would be questioned for the password.
Thanks for the answer.
I activated the boot password.
What use does the sd card password have? I tried to put the sd card in my computer and the card wasn't even detected. Does this mean nobody can access the files without the password? What is the difference to a full encryption?
Hey there fellas i am new to these forums so i dont exactly know how this thing works so bear with me and my english.
I had samsung J5 which i encrypted both (sd card and device) but somehow ive broke my phone and but thankfully was able to recover my sd card. but when i insert my sd card into my new phone the data won't load up although its shows the names and amount of files it contains but no picture, videos or audios. i remember my password which i used for encrypting the (card and device) but it doesn't prompt me to put my password and processes to decryption. please help me out how can i safely decrypt the SD card with all my data.
My SD card was encrypted before I updated to Oreo, now it gives a message to say I need to decrypt the SD in the original phone that I encrypted the card with (naturally this is the original phone)
Do I have to roll back and then decrypt and then upgrade again?
Thanks for any help guys

I dont think you can do it anymore now. This is the issue from Samsung's side which now can't be fixed because your phone thinks it was encrypted somewhere else.
your only option is to format sdcard and start again.
