[Q] How to take a screenshot? - Nexus Player Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Not sure if I'm missing something or what..
What's the easiest way to take a screenshot on a Nexus Player? Can it be done with ADB just like on a regular android phone?

I don't know the key combo to do it onboard the device, but I accidentally took a screenshot by hitting the PrintScreen button on a USB keyboard last night.

How can I take ScreenShots on my MT3G?
Now, before it's said: I have been unable to get the SDK to work, so that's out. Also, I am NOT rooted, as I have the Perfect SPL, and a Gold Card did not work.
I am running Home++, which gives the option to use the camera button to take one, but the MT3G doesn't have a camera button. Would the trackball work for this, as you use it to trigger the camera? Is there another way to do this? Is there maybe a widget or app that would allow screen shots?
Thanks for any help...
A thought for the Dev's; How about an app the when you hit either it, or an option with in it, it will give you 15-20 seconds to get to the screen you want to capture, then does so? Seems like it wouldn't be too hard, but I'm not a Dev, so what do I know... lol

Yay, I figured out a work around. The Home++ will let you override the camera button and use the back button. Awesome.
Sorry, but how could you not get the sdk to work?
I downloaded it and java on. 2000 pc via pdanet free.

I did it on two XP workstations, one a Lenovo laptop, and the other a Dell Desktop (both work PC's). I would not recognize the phone. I could use it as mass storage fine, as usual, but the drivers would not install (and yes, I DL'ed that driver app, still nogo). Also, I kept getting error that some file was missing and would need to be downloaded for the SDK, and excell file if I remember correctly. I DL'ed it, put it in multiple directories, still nogo.

For future reference, you needed to turn on USB debugging to take screen shots with the SDK. It's under Settings-Applications-Development

Program the headphones button. Cuz it's only one :(

Hi,
Is there someway I can reassign the function the one button on my stock headphones has? I use the stock sense music player.
What I wish for:
1 click: pause ( already like that )
2 clicks or long press: next
etc.
Thank you!
2 clicks is already taken for call last in or outgoing caller... and i have no idea if its possible
Long click brings up vlingo for me
I can't believe there's no apk to customize this.

It would need root unless you could get something to run on a long press

HDMI Out

So, when plugging it into a monitor and only using the cable, the only options that pop up is the "Multimedia" interface where you can only listen to music or see pictures/videos stored on the phone. Has anyone found a way to do a real video out so you can display your browser or certain apps like Youtube? Or perhaps even enable Webtop so you can view it over just the simple HDMI cable. I hate to have to buy a dock just to use Webtop.

There is some value in the build.prop file that might enable this.
Look for ro.hdmi.mirror.enable=false
Change to true and reboot the phone.
See if that helps.
you need to be root of course.

Well that worked while the phone was booting. After it detects the HDMI cable it goes back to blank and then lets me choose between doing nothing and Entertainment Mode and none bring back the mirror. It was working fine tho. While it lasted...

In the multimedia mode, is it popping up with the Windows Media Player like big icon's view on the monitor?
If so, there is a "Start Webtop" icon that should kick off the Linux webtop.

I can't do that. While you are in Entertainment mode you can change anything on the phone or it kicks out and the screen of blank.
AFAIK the Atrix doesnt have true HDMI Mirroring, only the LG Optimus 2X has got that. I might be wrong naturally.

But the mirroring was working. Except that when it detected the HDMI quickly when I unlocked my phone it went blank and asked me what I wanted to do. Entertainment Mode or Do Nothing and none of them got me back to the mirroring. If anyone has a solution or idea, let me know. I'll test.

Maybe there is an option in to disable that popup message / feature...
I'll be getting the phone tomorrow and i'll take a look.
Mirroring is working - but something is overriding it in the settings.

Yeah we need to write that down. It was working beautifully. I even so the Moto logo while it was booting and the unlock screen. As soon as I unlocked it OR it detected the HDMI cable, it kicked into another mode and overwrote that = true statement.
I will be rooting it tomorrow so I can dive in and see about getting true mirroring to work. But if we can't get it to do it, this may be a deal breaker for me. I can only assume it is possible somehow.

You can try to delete the following two lines from build.prop:
ro.hdmi.default.app=
hw.overlay.path.config=
back it up first!
Let us know if that worked.
I hope it wont cause a boot up problem (it should not but you can never know).

It is, theres just something overwriting it. I'm taking one for the time and I'll start looking at everything now and start tinkering with it.

That actually made me loose data connection I think? The H+ dissapeared. I have no idea how that has to do with anything but I went back to the back up and everything was fine.

How about just removing:
ro.hdmi.default.app=
and keeping the other one.
any word on this? I would love to enable true mirroring!
how did the droid x do it with this app:

Same here, I desperately want this feature for hdmi out on emulators. I hate Att for crippling features, the bionic has hdmi mirroring listed as a feature.

That doesn't do anything different. I've got it happily mirroring through the boot sequence, drawing the lockscreen and my security pattern to the TV, but just as soon as it unlocks, Moto's crapware takes over and away it goes. It never comes back until it reboots.
Forgive my relative ignorance with Android-- this is only the second one I've ever owned. Is there a way to bypass the restriction and uninstall either the Entertainment Center or the DockProvider packages? I have a hunch that it's one of those getting in the way of things, but I can't be certain.
anyone know how to get in mirror mode

[Q] Disable Home Button Wake

Anyone know of a way to disable the home button wake without root? Didn't know if they tucked something away in settings somewhere. Every time I stick the device in the case I have the screen comes on and continues to do it on and off. Probably in my pocket as well.

I have looked as well and cant seem to find any way to do it. Tried a search but no luck yet. If I find a way I will post it here.
According to Samsung there is no way to do it and they are hinting it might be added as an option in future update. Guess I will just have to wait till I root the device.

How to set desktop mode in Chrome/MTP USB permanently

Those 2 things have been bugging me from the start. I have only ever used my PC to transfer files on to my phone so I would like it to go into MTP mode by default not into charging mode, I know there is some apk on the market that claims to do it but it is an Xposed module and I'm not running Xposed, any other way? Also I've always used the chrome-command-line trick to get my Chrome to always open desktop version of websites (mobile version are more than often way too buggy and poor looking, seriously wtf) but it no longer seems to work, apps from market also fail to change my user agent (or at least those few I tried). Any way to accomplish those 2 things? I'm running Nougat PureNexus. Flashable zips, Tasker scripts, apks? Anything? Thanks!
I only root just to use Xposed.

And I only root to get Adaway. I used Xposed on my previous phone and found it to be extremely unreliable, maybe it's time to give Nexus 6P's version a shot?
Yea I would I really like the hold power to turn on flash and being able to see how much data I'm using in the notification. Wish Android would just have this built in and having the USB selection memorized.

Those things are already in PureNexus by default, the hold power for flashlight was the thing that tipped the balance and made me switch from stock.
Besides am I going blind or is there no Xposed for Nougat yet and this whole discussion was pointless??

I know but it only works one time, notice if you set it and plug your phone in it's in file transfer, unplug it and plug it again and it's in charging mode again... Useless setting, that's why I was asking for a permanent solution.
EDIT1: Guys but what about the more important chrome user agent? It seems like a simpler problem yet I can't find any information what happened on nougat that made it impossible to edit, where is the user agent string now??
EDIT2: OK nvm about the Chrome thing I figured it out myself looks like they changed the directory chrome-command-line file should be in to /data/local/tmp and now it works.

Tried this and it didn't work. Anything else that had to be done besides basically copying the file into /tmp? This is the most frustrating part of Nougat for me.
