I have a feeling that the answer must be already out there somewhere but for the life of me I can't locate it.
I have a 128GB micro SD in my (stock rooted) S5. The problem is that I can't delete files from it via the phone. It used to delete okay but not any more.
They delete okay if I use the card elsewhere, including my Nexus 7 2013 using a card reader, but won't delete using the phone.
I've tried doing it with several apps, including the stock My Files, with no success.
I tried reformatting the card and trying again, but it made no difference. (The card is exFAT).
Anyone?
Can anyone help with this please

Try this to resolve the problem this is using Windows 7 not sure about Windows XP but it will be similar
Remove the card from the phone and plug into your computer, click the Start button > then click Computer.
Right click on the card link and select Format (this will wipe the card so copy any files you want to keep to your PC first)
When the process has finished highlight the card link again and at the top of the window click Properties then Tools, then under Error Checking click Check Now, there should be no errors due to the format but run the check anyway.
Once this is compete right click on the card link again then from the option click Eject, it wont physically eject the card but it will disconnect it from the computer, then remove it, put it back in the phone, boot the phone up as normal.
Write a file (Copy a file or folder to the SD Card) using the stock My Files or by plugging your phone into your computer and copying a file across from there, once copied to the card, try to delete it using the stock My Files app, if this works then your card should work properly.

Thanks and Hello from a fellow Scarborian. :good:
I've already tried a reformat but it hasn't worked.
Given that the card works fine in all my other devices the problem seems to be with the S5's relationship with the card rather than the card itself.
If you are rooted, grab TWRP manager from Play store, and load it up as if you are going to install TWRP, but only follow the "Patch SDCard" part and reboot
Install Busybox first before running TWRP Manager

If I get desperate I'll try another card reformat at some time but I really think it's something to do with the phone rather than the card, given that the card works okay elsewhere. (It's a nearly-full 128GB card and I don't have the time at the moment.)
I edited the build.prop line but still not deleting.
I'm out of ideas for now then, i`ll post back if I come across anything
Good luck

It will copy and move okay. It's just deleting that seems to be the problem.
Long shot but you can try flashing a zip file from here. It worked beautifully for me but I had move /copy problem also

Suggest strongly to flash that zip which I referred to.
As I recall, it is expected to restore rights to the way Android is supposed to function in his words. Please flash and though the zip is named cwm something, can be flashed with TWRP...I did it

I don't know when this started happening, but I can no longer install apps. When I try to install an apk from the sd card, I click install and it immediately gives the error message "Application not installed."
I was having problems installing apps from the market, as well, and read a post that suggested unmounting the sd card first, then trying to install the app from the market. This does work. However, I can't very well unmount the sd card then install an apk from it...
I did use adb to change the default install location to the sd card awhile back, but I just reset it to 0 (automatic) and I still get the same error message. I have plenty of room on both the phone and the card.
What's wrong?
This very well may be a different issue altogether, but some phones that have done this in the past have just required a cache clear in the market. Just go settings > applications > market > clear cache
Again, probably something else, but have seen this issue in alot of different android phones.

Exactly same for me from today (maybe yesterday). HTC Desire, original ROM. WTF? I was already thinking about virus, but probobly its stupid idea. What's going on?
I cannot install apps from SD nor from Market.
I had an issue with this too kept getting "unknown reason 18" put new SD card in and no problems since

Yea, your sd card is dead. A new one will fix the issue.
Sent from my Nexus One
It's probably not a dead sd card, but more likely to be a single file.
You need to delete smdl2tmp1.asec from the .android-secure folder on the sd. You can't see this file with an on phone file manager, so you either have to use terminal emulator, or connect to a pc..

If the file is on SD... you may have ran into the occasional SD becoming read only under CM10 that periodically rears its ugly head.
So does it mean that there is no solution? Thanks anyway.

It means you may have to use a different SD. CM10 is real finicky about SD cards.

I have used sdcard no. 1 to install cm 10 but I use sdcard no. 2 to download additional files and apps and use it as the device's main sdcard meaning I use it. I tried a different sd card also but still can't delete files and using cm10, I realized that there are some hidden files with unknown symbols I don't know what are those I saw them when I use androzip but on other file manager I don't see them and I can't delete them BTW should I use cm7.2 or cm 10.

Those unknown symbol files mean that CM10 is sometimes corrupting some files when it writes. That is why it is mounting the SD as read only. It sees that corruption. Try creating a file with your CM10 file manager. If you cannot, it means it is mounted read only.
Try getting the free SDFormatter program and running that on your PC to reformat the no. 2 SD to fix any corruption.

Hello everyone!
I got the Samsung galaxy S4 i9500 international version.
I put a 32gb micro sd card of SanDisk and it works fine.
The only problem is that I want to install apps on the sd card and I can't because I dont have the "move to sd card" option.
I saw some videos that show how the "move to sd card" is available without any root to the device...
Thanks a lot for helping!

You do realize that the "move to sd" option doesn't really Dave you any appreciable space, right? It will only relocate the apk and will leave the app or game's data intact in its original location.

You can try using Folder Mount or one of the similar third party apps to move the data to your external sd card and create symlinks from the original location to the new one.

As the title says, my phone can no longer write to any external source (Sd card or OTG USB drive.)
I'm on the BTU CSC firmware. My phone shipped with EGY. Not sure what to do. Any ideas?
Edit: Can't delete files either. It appears that any external memory source is read only. If I switch back to my original CSC it works though....
So it appears to be a system issue... I have FX file explorer (which was failing too) and I removed and re-added Sd card write access and it works. So if I could figure out how to make the system re-ask for external Sd card permission I'll be good. Anybody know which app controls those permissions?

I had this problem before. You need to specify the location of your backups. If on external sd card, go to preferences, backup folder location and change storage provider to document provider storage. Find your external sd card in the drop down, then select. You should then be able to have Tibu detect the folder at this point.
