bluetooth issues since updates ***BEER TOKENS IF FIXED!!! - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi guys, need help desperately (willing to send a few beer tokens via paypal if someone can help me sort this ASAP!!!)
since a recent auto update to 5.0 on my samsung S5 (uk on o2 network) im finding my bluetooth won't auto connect or store/save connections
i have tried clearing data and restarting, as well as deleting and re connecting but its not working
before, i would pair to my alpine car stereo and it would ask to save this connection and that was it, and everytime i turned the car on, it would connect without having to put in a code or anything
now, every single time i get into the car, it asks to pair, it asks to allow access to phonebook etc, the whole process takes ages, and it still doesn't connect perfectly as the bluetooth logo on the stereo constantly flashes, this is a huge problem for me, as i have 9 points on my driving licence, some of which for using my phone so any more and i lose my driving licence

anyone help? thanks very much

Full Factory reset since updating to Lollipop? Solves 99% of problems
To be honest, bluetooth not working is not really an excuse for 9 points for using your phone, you also have the option to not answer it when driving, or pull over first
---
EDIT - Try this too (You need to be rooted)
Open up build.prop in /system/ and edit this line
ro.securestorage.support=true
to
ro.securestorage.support=false
Reboot, set up your connections one more time, this time they should be saved and auto connect again, I have to do this for WiFI

i already have 6 points for unrelated driving offences, and 3 for using a satnav (when parked in a layby but the copper says my indicators were on and assumed i was pulling out even tho i was parked up and stopped with hazards on, but i suffered it as it was my first 3 points at the time) and just don't want to risk it, i drive and get 100+ calls a day work related so its hard without handsfree
trying the above, will let you know what happens

did a full restore on my phone, and its done the same
not sure how to do much else with the phone, so if anyones willing to guide me through it il happily pay them for their time
thanks

Did you try the secure.storage trick?
Pretty sure that's the same issue, I don't use BT, but it refuses to save WiFi passwords after a reboot unless I edit that line and reboot
You don't need to offer money for help, that's what people are here for anyway
If you don't mind tripping KNOX, which basically nulls warranty outside of the EU, you can use CF Auto Root to root and then you'll have permissions to edit that build.prop file

all the above makes no sense to me
iv had the phone a year, so it might be out of warranty anyway, is it a simple task if i watched a youtube video?
all my wifi passwords are fine btw

Yea it's pretty straight forward few videos here
https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=cf+auto+root+galaxy+s5
But if your WiFi passwords are saving fine it might not be that afterall... worth a shot I suppose though, having root is always good, if for nothing else you can block adverts system wide
Basically you need this file if you S5 is the G900F
http://download.chainfire.eu/397/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-klte-kltexx-smg900f.zip
And ODIN
https://mega.co.nz/#!Exo3yADS!y7pFS5-9RVhp4vDxTRAQARAwkjyQAB_9mDZWfXkLqko
Put the phone into download mode (Volume Down & Home & Power) from a powered off state - then volume up when prompted
Extract CF Auto Root
Load the extracted file into AP in ODIN, wait for it to say it's happy, and hit Start
It will root the phone, then reboot the phone

[Q] My samsung galaxy s4 won't remember my wifi network

Okay so I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 from sprint, I love the phone it’s great. I was on the mdl update stock rooted and everything was working fine with wifi. Then I did a factory reset updated to mf9 (the latest update) and then rooted it still stock. Now my phone will connect to wifi if I manually connect to it and works fine, however, if I disable and reenable wifi or restart the phone or leave my house and come back, it will not reconnect to my network automatically, I have to select it myself and put the security key in everytime. When I disable and reenable my wifi it will show “secured” under my network, making it seem as if it never tried to save the network in the first place, So it won't automatically connect like it use to on the mdl update, because it seems as if it forgets it when it disconnects.
I tried even connecting and then forgetting the network and then connecting again to see if that would fix it but it didn’t.
The weird thing is that at my work it remembered the network and connects automatically and when I’m in range. And when I’m away from work I can see it saying “not in range”. Why isn’t my home network doing the same thing, and how do I fix this? (btw I really don’t want to do another factory reset if I don’t have to.)
-I have a 2wire 3800HGV-B router.

Okay well I fixed it by unrooting and using odin to go back two updates prior to mf9, then did 2 ota's back to mf9 and rooted again. all is working fine, also fixed the phone's getting too hot problem and battery last longer than ever.
it's your kernel that was causing this...for future reference, if you're on mf9 with the stock mf9 kernel and do not want to have to wipe your phone to fix this, you can use ShabbyPenguin's kernel...i had this issue before on my s4 and this worked for me...why the rooted stock rom doesnt like the stock kernel for wifi blows my mind...lol
How was it going on? Do you still have the problem with the wifi?
Perhaps you can try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...56&postcount=2 (Greatly appreciated and high credit to dajumper's work.)
This works on my I337 NI1 Unlocked Rooted. I uses ES Explorer with Root Explorer enabled.
I went to the "system " folder in the device, scrolled down until I found "build prop" then edited using ES Explorer Note Editor.

[Q] Turn ON usb port cover warning

Hello
I've seen plenty of posts around the net with people asking how to turn OFF the USB Port Cover warning that comes up when you unplug the cord. But, I want to turn mine back on. I actually like the warning popup, but I accidentally selected the "do not show again" box and now it's gone.
I do not have a rooted phone, and would prefer not to root if I don't have to at this time.
Model: SM-G900V
Android Ver: 4.4.4
Build: KTU84P.G900VVRI1ANI2
Thanks
..
Thank you. I'll look into that and see. (To be honest, it's my wifes phone and she doesn't want it rooted, I'll root my own once a Verizon root starts working again)

Not sure why your messages are both showing up as just two dots now, but I did get to read your reply in the email notification.
"Restoring a backup is always the best way to recover.
But most people don't bother to make them. And since you aren't willing to root, you can't edit the system property directly. Which means that your only option is to clear the preference you committed.
Go to the Application manager in the Settings menu and look on the "Al" submenu. You need to identify which app generates the reminder message and then choose clear cache and data for it to restore the warning. A Google search would identify the app or process name for youOnce a Verizon root starts working again?
You're misinformed. Verizon roots have been working all along.?
In regards to Verizon roots, they may work for others, it does not work for mine. I've attached two screen shots that show what phone I have, and the message that Towelroot gives me when I run it. If you could point me to something else that does work for my model phone, that would be great.

Wifi Wont Turn On ($20 Reward)

Hi, I have a very bad problem and need some tips on how to fix the problem. If you successfully fix the problem for me I will pay you a reward of $20 via PayPal or Bitcoin.
I have a Rooted Samsung Galaxy S5 Verizon (SM-G900V) Running Android 4.4.4
Everything has been going fine and I have used my Galaxy S5 with no problems for around 6 months now, however I ran into an issue a week ago. My issue started after I tried changing my Mac Address (Spoofing it). I used PryFi:
● PryFi
*play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.pryfi&hl=en&referrer=utm_source%3Dgoogle%26utm_medium%3Dorganic%26utm_term%3Dpryfi&pcampaignid=APPU_1_ujKoVb-zO4Su-AGNiIC4AQ
I granted root access to the application via SuperSU. I also enabled the 'Mac Spoofing While Connected' option.
When I turned off the application my WiFi was fine for a while, I could turn the WiFi on and off, my problem didn't happen until I did a reboot when I rebooted I was unable to turn on WiFi ever again.
The application PryFi broke my entire WiFi, now I am able to only use the Internet with my data connection WiFi does not work at all.
I have tried a few things, however none have been successful yet.
I have did a factory reset and it still has not fixed my WiFi problem.
The WiFi will not turn on at all. It is stuck on Gray.
Bluetooth works fine, however WiFi does not.
If you're able to help me with this issue successfully I will reward you with $20 via PayPal, or Bitcoin.
Thank you,
Ferragamo

Have you done a reflash? A factory reset just wipes /data, won't really fix anything...

Get TWRP.
Clear Cache, dalvik
clear data, system
Flash stock firmware via odin. Will fix the issue.

I am really upset about myself for not taking a backup as stated. I will from now on take backups all the time before doing anything that could corrupt my phone from now on.
I still haven't tested this to see if it will fix my phone, I will test this within the next day or so.
I do have a question, right now I'm on vacation in the Outer Banks with no computer access at the moment. Is there a way to do what I require to fix the WiFi problem without a computer?

They dont have a computer to flash a recovery, furthermore, even if they did, or if they used flashfire or mobile odin(assuming they have root), you cant get a recovery on a G900V, attempting your instructions would certaintly brick the phone.

Ferragamo,
Verizon's S5 has a locked bootloader, meaning any attempt to load/flash/Odin anything besides the factory firmware will fail (and sometimes end up in tears).
It seems that a major cleanup and then reflashing the latest firmware should resolve the issue.
You can follow my directions bellow to get it done at home (takes about 30 minutes on a fast internet connection), but yes, you'd need your computer.
Or you can stop by BestBuy and have them flash a new firmware on your phone for you.
Step-by-step Directions:
1- Start by downloading the correct USB drivers for your phone, and install them (open the exe file as administrator on your PC):
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SM-G900VZKAVZW
2- Download and install Samsung Kies 3 software on your PC:
http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/
3- Back up your files from the phone using Kies or copy your files, photos, etc. to your PC
4- Time to clean the phone! Use the 3-button combo (hold volume up + home buttons and press the power button) to enter recovery.
7- use volume keys to scroll down to factory reset and press power to select it. Select Yes to wipe the phone. And repeat this step one or two more times for good measure.
8- hit reboot phone, once the phone's screen goes blank (phone vibrates), pull the battery. Don't let it boot.!
9- Load up Samsung kies on your PC, select Tools tab, and reinitialize firmware, answer the on screen questions to input your serial number from the sticker inside the phone.
10- Once ready to flash the new firmware, put the battery in and boot the phone to download mode (3- button combo hold volume down+home and press power)
11- connect the USB cable to PC and make sure Kies recognizes your phone, if not uninstall and reinstall the USB driver. Reboot PC etc...
FAQ's
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00043306/997388244/
Downloading the firmware will take a while depending on the connection speed. The file size is around 1.5-2GB.
Be patient and baby sit it until flashing is done.
Important: Do not break the cable connection, and prevent the computer from going to sleep or turning off during this process!
Happy flashing
Thanks everyone for trying to help me out. I'm still in the Outer Banks as of now (10:41pm EST). I won't be home until around Sunday, so if I'm not able to do this process without a computer it will have to wait until at least Sunday.
I have got a general picture on what I will have to do to resolve this problem. Hopefully when I get home I will be able to fix this situation.
Thank you Commodore for pointing out those nice tips and the guide. I noticed you mentioned I could take my phone to BestBuy, unfortunately in the Outer Banks they do not have a BestBuy as far as I can see. The only store I can find is a Walmart, so that probably will be of no use for me.
I would have gone to a public library to try and fix this issue, however this location has no library kind of dissatisfied a little, but if it did have one I would have took time out of my vacation to fix my phone.
If there is somehow a work around via the phone some how I would be willing to test it and hear it out, if the computer is my only option than so be it.
When I get home and fix this situation I will reward those who have helped and reached myself to restore access to the WiFi on my phone.
Thanks,
Ferragamo

Well I'm going to try to explain myself. I had my phone rooted and everything was working fine. I don't know what happened that the root stop working. Someone in the thread of cfauto root post the solution that worked for me. Installing twrp and installing the new boot.img that the user upload. The phone works well but I have the troubles with the Wi-Fi. Everytime I restart the phone the phone forget my Wi-Fi network. Anybody having the same trouble and can help me to fix it?

During the first boot of a ROM, you have to enter your google mail adress, you have to setup your phone...
During this setup, there are choices to make : Agree to general conditions, allow GPS, etc... One of thoses choices is to allow your phone to remember all of your informations (such as wifi passwords). I think you didn't cross this box, so your phone don't remember

I think you misunderstood my problem is that my phone every time I restart forget the network
I had a similar problem in my old Note 4. I solved it by doing the following
Edit build.prop
1. ro.securestorage.support= (((change true to false)))
2. Save and copy(replace) to system folder.
3. Restart phone
Not sure if this will help you, but it may. Take a backup first ????

Missing "HotSpot & Tethering" / Hotspot not functioning

So, I'm having a particularly strange issue here. I recently got this Sprint Note 4 and activated it. However, there appears to be a missing option under settings. Tethering and Hotspot is straight up gone. To clarify, I have pictures attached showing the item listing, and one without it.
Clarifications of troubleshooting I've tried so far:
I have attempted a factory reset of the device
I have attempted to do a reset with ##72786#
I have tried updating Profile, PRL,
I am using a DeOdexed PH4 6.0.1 ROM. I have tried reflashing per instruction (triple wiping Cache, Dalvik, Internal, System, etc)
I have tried flashing a STOCK OTA PH4 ROM to see if it would show up there. It does not.
I called Sprint technical support to reprovision my phone. They pushed out a a reprovisioning that I accepted. No change.
At one point, Wanam/Xposed was attempted to be installed. I checked for system/csc/features.xml. It was not there
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-sprint/development/rom-stock-ph4-bloated-deodexed-t3473610/ is the custom ROM i'm using. However, it doesn't seem like a ROM specific issue.
If I use Activity Launcher or itools, i can access the actual wifi hotspot MENU (the toggle off and on, LAN settings, etc). I can enable it and the system will broadcast the SSID. However, if I try connecting to it, no devices are able to successfully connect.
here is the Activity Launcher referenced, for other readers:

but anyways, regarding devices not being able to connect, sometimes the data connectivity (through hotspot only, not for the entire phone) will go dead if you don't start using it immediately after first unlocking and activating tether.
in my experiences, if you keep data alive by immediately connecting a device after your first time turning tether on (after unlock) by downloading a large file or somewhat frequently reloading web pages (on the connected device!) -- anything that will keep data sending and receiving -- it will stick, and the data service to connected device issues will stop.
it's not foolproof, it's not a silver bullet, but this is the method to the madness I have learned and worked for me many times when changing roms and even getting new phones.
it's been a couple months since I had to fiddle with it last, so I can't remember if it was necessary to re-unlock after a failed attempt at keeping data alive. you might only have to toggle data off then back on for another attempt.
when I had the problem of connected devices losing internet access, it would only happen after having worked for a few seconds to a few minutes. it'd work then abruptly stop, and this is my "fix"
My issue seems more in line with the devuces failing to validate to begin with. Not losing connection.
I had something like this before, I vaguely recall it having to do with using Odin vs. OTA stock. So did you try wiping your phone completely then Odin the stock PH4 tar, or did you OTA to PH4?

The very very very first time, I OTA'd to PH4. The next two tries were wiping completely and using the PH4 tar file. So both methods have been attempted.
I was referring to loss of internet connection, not signal related. I thought that was clear, sorry

I thought you meant loss of internet connection in the sense of anti-tether provisioning from Sprint. My phone's LTE never goes down (and I am able to still browse the internet from the mobile device while tethering).
The connected devices never successfully "connect". They aren't listed as connected devices under the mobile hotspot. My other Android phone (without mobile data) is forever connecting. My macbook claims it has an assigned IP but is "unable to access the internet". So I'm not sure what the hell is going on with that.
At this point, I have restored my Note 3 as my active device until I get this resolved. I'm willing to re-write everything down to the barest metal I can.
Somebody in another topic mentioned something about PIT. I don't know anything about that sort of thing. My knowledge extends about as far as installing recovery and flashing ROMs.
I'm confident I could follow procedure, but could use a guiding hand on where to go from here.
sounds like the tether unlock method you used was not done correctly, whether by whoever made it or yourself
method 2 in Galaxy Tools should work just fine. there are several threads in the Sprint note 4 seconds that contain the apk or ppl that will pm it to you. the author discontinued the public/free version of the app and now chargers $35+ per person for a 1 time use lol once you get a copy of the free one, make copies and store on multiple devices forever.
it's primarily for Sprint Sammy devices, so you prob won't see much if anything about it here in the collective note 4 forum.
may work on some boost or even tmo, but yeah.
edit:
you'll want either 3.1.5, easy install n msl read broken on MM and less features
or 3.1.8, troublesome install with msl read working but unreliably, more features.

Came back around to this, as I am running a multi-rom and am still encountering this issue. I never attempted any hotspot unlockers. The hotspot was missing from the get-go.

Just a thought and question: when you Odin stock tar to recover from this condition, are you using the rooted extended power menu to boot to download mode? Or, do you prevent the auto reboot of stock tar flash with Odin options?
A noted developer, @idone from Galaxy Tool app, once shared with me that rooted shortcut or preventing auto reboot can prevent the normal flash of Odin booting to recovery momentarily to set csc options. csc options flashed may not restore on any boots if you skip that initial auto boot.
The suggested method is to power down and pull battery for 30 seconds our more before reinserting battery and manually booting to downloaded mode. And do not uncheck auto reboot or pull battery but use Odin defaults and let phone auto boot. Doing this allows the phone to boot into recovery to do its thing briefly before booting system. I usually just let it perform the setup wizard and didn't activation just in case.
I rarely do the the data profile update or PRL because if letting the phone setup this way and phone prompts to reboot later, I believe this all done. But since this may allow ItsOn to bootstrap initialize, after flashing TWRP and backing up, I wipe internal memory and factory reset before flashing a custom ROM. Data format is optional; I don't always do that.
But if you do all that and don't see hotspot in Settings of stock, that's a problem. Maybe from dead stock, try KIES or Smart Switch to restore latest stock and check again?
