So my previous phone was a stock, freshly reset Nexus 5 on 5.1.1.
Got my G4 yesterday, did the usual disable bloatware process first. I cannot believe how much crap this phone has from LG and Tmobile. I then installed all of my apps, for some reason the auto restore process never works correctly for me. Google Please fix...
Anywho, the G4 "feels" less responsive then my old Nexus 5. It does not freeze or anything. I just see a short lag spike (best I can do as far as the description goes) in pretty much anything I do on the phone, moving between screens, or opening an email in Inbox and then scrolling, it will stutter the first time Im viewing the email. I changed the Dev settings to .5x for all animations, but that really didnt fix this issue. I can sit the two phones side by side after work today to actually perform some tests, maybe do a video.
The battery on the G4 sits at 100% for like 20 minutes no matter how I use then phone, it then drops like crazy from there. I have not done a full charge cycle, maybe thats just what happens when you start using the phone.
I accidentally removed the Google search bar that was 5x1, tried to re-add it and that widget is not available, only the 4x1 one is there, and you cannot resize it.
The phone got super hot when I was installing all of the apps.
Camera has no settings for quality (fine, normal etc) No option to disable OIS or IS. No option to set frame rate for recording. Kind of weird.
The Memory seems to have the usual Lollipop bug where the system has a memory leak. Such BS that google only fixed it in 5.1.1.
Leather feels nice, unlike anything else I felt on a phone before.
I'm in the same boat. I actually dropped my N5 recently and cracked the screen. I looked for a replacement but no luck. Not even for the screen only. I got my G4 the other day and I like it,but to be sure I just took a look at the N6 to compare. This G4 is almost as big screen wise in person. Plus the quad HD really looks great. So I'm sticking with this G4 (on sprint).
I'm really betting that we'll have root and I can get rid of some of these bloat apps. I can prob disable, but I want em gone. I also hope we get some good kernels. I was running franco kernel ony N5 and had a great experience.
I have a lot of the same experiences as you as well. There's a lot of potential here. Might have to step up myself because I'd love to see a lot of development.
Battery has lasted all day for me which is slightly longer than my N5. And I think if you want to change some of the camera options you prob have to use manual mode. There's a ton of options once you enable that.
You can send your N5 to LG for repair. That's what I did.
It worked about a year ago, hopefully they still offer that service. It was around $150
I had a nexus 5 and the phone was amsome... Wish i can just cram this cam on the N5... But i feel the same with the issues on the g4.. But this screen and and great... I can deal with it for now untill root comes

The Nexus 5 is one of the best phones of all time. I also feel that the Nexus 5 performs more smoothly than the Galaxy S6, G4, and pretty much every new phone. A fricking phone from 2013 is still spanking 2015 flagships. That's just sad. If the N5 just had a bigger battery and an awesome camera like the S6 and G4, I would probably use it for the rest of my life.

I feel the same except I had a CM 12.1 LG G2 that I dropped. The G2 feels a lot more smoother, has better battery life and was a better size fit for me. I'm hoping the new nexus 5 will be similar to the G2/nexus 5 2013 which I'll probably get after selling this phone on swappa or something. I'm also debating on returning this for the S6, but the S6 seemed more slower than the G4 when I was in store the other day
I seem to be the only one disappointed from my N5 haha
It freezes too much, camera is terrible (mine got broke.. focus is not working) and not to mention battery life.
I'm planning on switching to the G4 when prices will go down, so this post helped me. If you find it better, and you loved your N5, then I would definitely love the G4
Seems you guys should switch back to the N5. This replaced my N6 and im not looking back, im not getting lag on this phone and the battery is fine.
I also came from a N5. Battery life for me was atrocious and I didn't want to bother with putting a new one in (my luck I'd screw up something). I really like the G4 - the camera is the single best thing (aside from the battery life being better and the battery being user replaceable). But more than that, I like the feel of the phone in hand. That's one of those things you just don't appreciate until you have a device that feels that way.
Other improvements that I like with the G4 not present in the N5 (besides the camera and battery just mentioned)-
700 mhz LTE band 12 (HUGE PLUS for T-mo customers)
VoLTE
Wifi Calling (T-mo) *also no longer drops calls when wifi is lost during a call (lollipop feature)*
Micro SD (finally I can put music on my phone again! I had only 2.5GB free out of the 26.7 or whatever after apps and ONE full nandroid)
IR blaster (I have kids that CONSTANTLY lose our remotes)
Extremely good GPS (not that the N5 was bad, but I don't need to use anything than device only now)
Button feedback and placement (I like the buttons on the back)
(So far) frame isn't cracking *N5 was notorious for getting cracks next to the sim card and volume rocker - mine had this and it bugged the heck out of me*
What I miss from the N5-
Qi charging (good thing my charger was only $7 lol)
Smoothness
Custom color (faux kernel with my own custom color settings - used my colormunki and did it myself)
So for me the G4 is a huge upgrade. I'm sure before long all the issues with stuttering, etc will be resolved.
EDIT: Forgot to mention how much louder the speaker is on the G4... miles above the N5.
I have to agree. The camera is phenomenal on this phone. I love how it feels in my hand, and I couldn't be happier to have a micro SD again. I think we'll be able to fix the stuttering when we have root and development.

I agree with everyone's points here. I've had my Nexus 5 from day one and it was hard to give up. Just my battery life was not up to par. Especially with summer coming around, I really didn't want to carry an external charger. The G4 was hard to pass up with removable battery, SD card, display and of course, the camera. Plus, I thought LG did a good job with the N5.
So far the G4 is not as snappy as the N5. So I switched today to Google Now launcher and feels more responsive. The apps still take a tick longer to open. I'll see how it handles the next few days. I have another week to decide if I'll stick out and count on development or go back to N5.
Only thing i miss from my nexus 5 is easy root and it is easier to one hand. But the g4 is one handable, but with a little extra reach for the corners (in 6 1 with large hand).
Last time I used the camera on the G4 the phone got super hot. To the point it uncomfortable to hold next to my face. The glass was hot.
Tmobile said that is not supposed to happen, they are shipping me a replacement... Will report how it compares to the original G4.

My G4 gets hot right around the button area sometimes. It seems to get hotter than my G3. I notice it when it's in my pocket and I'm wondering what it's doing to make it so hot. I wonder if I have a defective one? Or has anyone else been experiencing that? I thought they went with the 808 instead of the 810 because of the heat problems. I'd hate for this to be a metal phone with it being as hot as that.

Yep, that is where it gets hit on the back, and also the glass front on top. That's a defect based on T-Mobile tech support.

Just wanted to see how much people like their G4! I personally love mine and think its the best phone I've ever had so far.
I believe you need to be on computer browser to vote.
BTW, no root and twrp for the G4 H811 is driving me nuts, so this poll will keep me temporarily sane!

9 for me. Love it.
I put 9 I guess based on the descriptions it's between a 9 and 10 for me, there are some small things that need to be improved like the missing taps on the touchscreen, terrible top pull down menu-everytime i scroll across I find myself accidentally turning off or on something I didn't want to, screen brightness at max level is a little underwhelming ...etc but nothing really deal breaking for me. Overall I'm satisfied with battery life.
I would not return this phone for anything else out there at the moment-that pretty much sums it up

Some of those thing could probaby be fixed with an update or custom rom.
My deal breaker was wireless charging. But now that I installed and modded a Chinese wireless sticker, that put the icing on the cake for me. Look for that thread if u want one.

At an 8. Phone heats up kinda quick in my opinion. And i thought the battery would last alittle longer that it does
10 for me. Coming from a LG G3—>Note 4->Note 4 Edge->Nexus 6 to this phone. Im just waiting for the ordered skinomi glass screen protector and verus verge gold case. I got the gold plastic back version of the phone. Also waiting for Supershieldz glass protector, spigen carbon fiber case, i-blason prime case, and UAG ash case w/glass screen protector.
I'm an Lg loyalist in all my electronics. I loved the G2 and had none of the problems others had on the G3.. Until Tmo effed up lollipop, It was the best for me. I love the G4, but I honestly expected more, especially from the battery. Overall I am still happy with it and like the look, shape and feel better than the 3, but the G3 just ran better for me. I do love having smart lock and the other additions. I hate that they removed smart screen and Tmo again left off the user accounts though. I get better signal than my other phones so that's a plus. Who knows maybe this replacements battery will be better and I'll be happy, I have never been a custom rom kinda guy. I like the Lg stock experience and really just do a few simple mods and tweaks to fine tune it.

I was hoping to gdt away from sammy because i dont want anything that looks like and iphone. But my battery is terrible and i miss having a physical home button because when im in the camera app. I always seem to end going home. These may just be gripes i have. I really love the leather back and the bomb photos they have. Something is missing from my note4. I cant put my finger on it but i have two more weeks to figure out was it is

I've been around the flagship block that last few years: Note 3, G3, 1+, note 4, Nexus 6 and now G4. I've been rather schizophrenic about it, the missed taps and studdering are my complaints, but I's sure a custom ROM will readily nix these, so I'm staying with the G4 to see what the note 5 will look like.
Rated it at 9....pretty damned spiffy.
given the criteria, I gave it a 10, I've had a tilt 2, LG T501, Amaze 4g, G2, G3 and now the G4 as well as the following work phones droid maxx, some other droid with a keyboard and LG gs4 and HTC one Mini. The LG G4 is better than all that have come before and I do love it.
Compared to the G3, better contrast/colors, camera, volume, battery life, BT audio in my car. If I had one complaint is that I don't care for the metallic boarder, it will eventually chip and look ugly for those that go without a case. while it's no game changer, it's a great evolution of the platform. now if it had the battery life of the G2 then I would give a 10+.
8.5
9.5 so i went with 9. Size is great and reception is phenomenal with lte going fast and bluetooth connection taking little time to connect. Could list positives for days.
Gripes:
#1 Auto brightness - indoors its too light in good artificial light and darkness. Makes viewing angles bad. Hopefully they can update it to be brighter. Outdoors is great.
#2 Concept software unpolished. There should be more smart options (work settings maybe or other setting options). Same goes with dual screen mode.. Limited apps.
#3 G4 bootloader struggle... I plan on having this a while but it sounds like a xda bounty mission.

I give mine an 8. You can fix #1 above by using the free play store app lux lite

2. I'll most likely return it. My touchscreen misses taps (especially during knock code input), has issues charging, and isn't rooted (yet). I have the 810. I came from a note 3 which is a beast of a phone and I can't justify paying for this phone when the note is better in many areas. I'll miss the G4 camera, though.
5
10 - if bootloader unlock is achieved

9 For me as well. I love this phone. The only improvement could be the battery life for on screen time along with the restoration of functions removed by VZW. Aside from that, it's a great phone and personally I'm glad I had chosen it over the S6/S6 Edge.
What's everyone's personal opinion on the device after having it for a couple of days? I'm picking one up regardless but I was just curious about the initial reviews and not just from all the hate threads about removable battery and expendable storage.
Why not read the many reviews now available online ? Reviewers from tech sites are no different to asking people here - just subjective opinions from strangers, and as you are intending to purchased one regardless ...

It's de definitely snappier when changing screens or apps. Don't know how much that is 5.1.1 or the newer hardware.
We have both the note 5 and the s6 edge plus in our house, and both of us agree the edge plus in s a nicer phone. The Note 5 just barley feels like an upgrade to the Note 4. We use cases so the glass back is pointless. Unless you have to have the stylus, go with the S6 Edge Plus, in my opinion.

I honestly haven't put much thought into the Edge+ because I do use my stylist a couple times a day. I also heard the screen is a gimmick and some reviewers say it gets old after a while, might have to check one out in the stores.
I love the battery compared to the note 4. Standby time is amazing even though i have lots of installed apps and autosync on.
I'm enjoying mine quite a bit. It's my first Note, and really my first Samsung. I technically had the S6 edge for 2 weeks, but I returned it so I could get the Note 5, and because I didn't like the way it felt in my hand.

Absolutely wonderful.
The software is amazing the most sophisticated piece of "equipment" I've very had. The keyboard fits my hands now. The battery is so amazing. I am blown away.
The camera is what I've always wanted in a phone now I have something to hopefully learn with. I am not missing anything. I actually believe I will be able to quit fiddling with things and learn with this this thing.

In partial to the note since I have owned all 5! It is truly a great phone.. Awesome build, super fast, great camera, fingerprint sensor is very fast, perfect screen, and as always in an spen guy so that's awesome too.
Battery life is a good as the 4 for me and I'm a super power user.
Excellent phone imo
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
This is my first Note, but certainly not my first large Android phone. I've had dozens of Android phones going all the way back to the OG T-Mobile G1. My most recent phone was the OnePlus One which I carried for a year and was very happy with.
As for the Note... I LOVE it! The screen is truly breathtaking, even coming from the OnePlus One which had a great screen. The camera is seriously what I've been waiting for since 2008... THIS is how a phone camera should be. The fingerprint reader is pretty cool and it's the first time I've ever used a security lockscreen on a phone and been happy with it. Battery life has been on par/maybe slightly better than the OnePlus One which had 100mah more capacity.
One thing that caught me totally off guard is how many software features this phone has that I've never seen in any other Android. My last Samsung was a S3, so TouchWiz has changed a lot since those days.
With all that said, this is the first Android phone I've had in AGES with a locked bootloader and no modding community. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I didn't realize this was the case until after my order had been placed. There are some things from custom roms that I immediately miss and wish I could get back like: double tap to wake, silent volume adjustment, linked ringtone and notification volumes(I did fix this with Tasker), and some others.
Another thing I'm bummed about... the clear cover over the camera flash and pulse sensor is made of crappy plastic and mine has scratches all over it already just from wiping it off with my Tshirt. Really bummed about this. I usually keep my phones looking brand new for at least 8-10 months and this one is scratched in 3 days.
Although there's been a lot of comparison criticisms between the Note 4 and Note 5, the Note 5 exceeds the note 4. One of the complaints is the 3000mah battery. While the Note 4 does have more (3250mah), the Note 5 actually outlasts the Note 4. This is both measured AND real-time use. So, while in some cases "size matters", efficiency is what comes into play with the Note 5. I also just read that the Note 5 has the best display of ALL smartphones currently on the market. I think most negative criticisms of the Note 5 is spec based and not real-time use based. WhIle some may think Samsung focused more on hardware, they did come up with a more efficient and better functioning device with the Note 5.
I had the note 3 back then, jumped on the Apple boat, and a few more devices including the oppo find 7a. But after much thinking, I was aiming for the edge plus, but considering I like to jot down stuff instead of typing, I went ahead and chose the note 5. Besides that, the camera allows you to almost control all settings manually which is a big plus for us photographers. Also, you still get the awesome tricks with the gestures and such. The battery life to me seems average, even though it has the qhd display, it holds its ground against similar screen phones.
Charging is very quickly now compared to my other phones. The body is quite a new style, and much more pro looking.
Overall great phone, but it comes down to personal choice if you want to choose this or the edge plus. Good luck!
Sent from my SM-N920T using Tapatalk
I sent mine back. I've had a lot of phones, and I've never sent one back. The main reasons I bought it were, in order of importance: 1) Fingerprint reader 2) Better
camera 3) Better display.
The fingerprint reader didn't work great for me. I found it just about as annoying as having to enter a pin or gesture unlock.
I have an LG G3, so I'm used to big phones, but this thing feels so heavy, and is just big enough that it doesn't fit in places where my G3 does.
The display and camera are nice, but not incredibly better (I know lots of people complain about the G3 display, but I think it's fine if you turn the brightness up).
I like the fact that the people who own one, are really liking their device. The Note 4 got a good amount of negative feedback when it was first announced but nothing like the 5. Like most cases, it's easy to point out flaws before even testing the device. On the way now to Verizon to pick mine up.
64g Black is what I'm going for. What did everyone else get?
I had the S6 edge before this phone and honestly its killing the Note 5 for me. The screen on the S6 seems more vibrant and clear than on the Note5. Also somehow the camera (which im told is the same on both phones) seems to take better low light pics with the galaxy vs the note. The differences are small and its still a great phone but i may end up back with the S6... Im gonna give it a few more days and see how i feel
Was told last Friday not to pre-order because I wouldn't receive my device until past 8/24 and was guaranteed that the Verizon stores around me would have 64g Friday morning. Turns out none around me have them... Thanks Verizon!
Been enjoying the phone a lot recently after switching from my iPhone 6 Plus and being on Apple phones ever since the iPhone 4. The only issue I have is apparently my battery life is bad because I used to get through a full day with my iPhone and would have roughly 30% left when I went to sleep. I've been finding out recently that I have to charge the Note 5 during the day in order to last as long. The system predicts my battery will be dead by 9 PM tonight which I thought was kinda short.. I'm not a super heavy user so I don't know what's causing it to die quicker than normal, nothing in power usage hints at what it is either..

Note5
153.2 x 76.1 x 7.6 mm
G3
146.3 x 74.6 x 8.9 mm
a difference of (+)7.1 x (+)1.5 x (-)1.3 mm from the G3. The width should feel essentially the same, 1.5mm difference is going to be close to imperceptible. 7mm extra height is enough for you to notice, but not enough to really make a difference for most people. and it's thinner so it should fit in pockets or slim places easier.
The only major difference is weight, 149g vs 171g.
I'm not sure why you seem to think the note5 is bigger because it is, but by 7.1mm at the most compared to the G3, I dont know if I believe you when you say it doesn't fit in the same places as the G3, a difference of 7mm shouldnt be enough to do that.
Yes, yes, it's possible to love a phone. Heck, you sleep next to it, don't you? Rate this thread to indicate your love for the Note5, all things considered. A higher rating indicates that the Note5 is an incredible phone that you enjoy tremendously. You love it.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I used nexus 6 before, everything was normal until the day I dropped my nexus 6 in the water and they couldn't fix my phone so I move to another new phone SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 5, really before I never liked Samsung cause it is made from plastic, but when the note 5 was launched I like it a lot and I want to buy it and I did, I love it, I love the screen, the camera and the finger print LOL.
Having used note 1,2,4, this is the best note ive ever Used. Its freaking fast and gorgeous. Screen, battery, pen, build quality and on and on.
Thanks for inviting me @svetius
So my first impressions of the phone was "WOW!!!" This was my first Note series phone and Samsung device since I had a Galaxy S4 for a short amount of time. I've always wanted a Note phone since the Note 2 but never made the jump to it because I figured it was just a fad or it had to be for someone that needed it's uses, such as the S-Pen, for their job maybe. I stuck with my Galaxy S2 which I used to ROM the hell out of! I never got board of it due to me changing ROMs every 5 seconds.
I really do love this phone! I purchased a case for it,https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00VN6NIQI/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1, and I am ALWAYS tempted to remove it just cause how the phone looks and feels without it. I purchases a new case,https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B010R8CFG6/ref=ya_st_dp_summary, which arrives later today because I just want to feel like I'm holding the phone itself. It's not cause I feel like the phone is too big or anything like that, I actually like the bulk my current case adds. It's kind of a love-hate thing. Love the case, but want something where it feels like I do think have a case. I might even consider just opting to go for a skin from either Dbrand or SlickWraps.
Am I sad that there isn't an SD card slot, a little, but that's why I opted for the 64GB version. I feel it more than enough space for me. Removable battery? Not sad at all. I didn't care for them as much as some others do. Now about the S-Pen, I found that I actually do use it, much more than I thought I would. I use it to play drawing games, organize my files, and take screenshots and draw on them. I'm a visual person so sometimes it's easier for me to explain something by drawing it out. I've read that others don't actually even touch the S-Pen. I thought I was going to be one of those guys.
This phone is just awesome! Is it perfect? No, but no phone will ever be perfect. This just comes close to it.
Love this phone and I'm not even sure if I'll go back to a smaller phone ever. Might stick with the Note series or other phablets.
Thanks for reading. I almost turned it into a big review, had other things to say, but I gotta keep it short.

That first Verus case you posted a link to is that plastic or metal? Hoping it's plastic

It's plastic. The case looks good with the White Note 5, which is the one I have. If you have the Blue Sapphire one, I would definitely go for the Black TPU over the transparent one.
I am pretty pleased with the Verus case, it reminds me of the Spigen Neo Hybrid, but I opted for this one cause it was slightly cheaper and it came in clear with a bumper that looks very similar to the metal banding on the Note 5. It's pretty thin, but not as thin as the case in that second link I posted.
No micro SD, no removable battery, fingerprint grease ball, multi-tasking like its 2009... 1 step forward, 4 steps back.

Yep, and add to that no IR blaster and no MHL support. Mine arrived yesterday and it is going back. Literally at least 4 steps backward.

I can't count how many times I used the IR Blaster and MHL.
IR Blaster was great to change channels at the bar. MHL was replaced by chromecast and smart TVs (all have miracast now)...
The phone is amazingly fast due to lack of micro sd. This would not be a problem if it had a 128Version.. I bought a microsd pendrive... at least photos and movies I'll keep with my keys and is easier to show on TV and share with friends PCs.
but battery.. that's my worst complain.. one day of medium usage... I'm getting a power case...
could be a great evolution, but it's a revolution not all for best... but its fast.. yes it is
I went from a Note 4 (SD) to an S6 and then to a Note4 (Exynos) ultimately to end my quest with the Note 5 (white N9208 duosim).
Always in search for the best combination in terms of looks, speed, screen quality, cam quality, features....I really think I have found my match (well...so far at least). The S6 was too small and the Note 4 just a bit too slow (in comparison with the S6).
Looks : the Note 5 is just the most beautiful phone I have ever seen...period. :good:
Screen quality : simply incredible! Remember I already has the S6 and Note 4...but the Note 5 even tops those.
Speed : it possitively flies! The additional 1GB RAM helps with multitasking (TW still isn't perfect though).
Cam quality : we already know how good the camera of the S6 is...this is just more of the same...in all departments it shines!
Features : it's a Note...enough said!
Do I shed a tear for the non-removable battery and non-expandable storage space? Nah...not really. The IR blaster would have been nice to have, but also no biggie imo.
Just an awesome beast of a phone!!!
I have used the whole note series from 1 to edge and now the note 5, its just amazing. Great looks awesome design, speed, performance.
Just love it
I was dead against Samsung phones before this one. I have a close friend here at work that let me use his for a couple days when my last phone (OPO) was out of commission from a bad flash. He let me restore it and make it mine for the entire 3 days I had it. Once I put the google now launcher on it and removed all the bloat it was an amazing phone. I went out the last night I had his and got my own. I love it, truly the best Android device to date.

I wish i have your friend.... so i can enjoy note 5 for 3 days... i cant buy one at this moment cause its to expensive. maybe ill wait 6 months and check if i can afford by then.
I've switched from jb'd iPhone 5S to the Note 5, and I'm completely happy. I've had prior rooted devices, and slow Android devices as well, so I know about memory management (which the Note handles just fine with what I do) so I have nothing to complain about yet. Well except for when my iPhone friends send me videos they come in compressed/crappy looking. Not sure why...
Awesome Phone! had the Oppo FIND 7 before and this one beats it by far! in every aspect.
Even after having it for a week now I still love it. I have found a couple things that bother me, though I am learning to live with them. The one that stands out most is the duplicate apps Samsung uses and wont allow you to disable. Calendar stands out most. Google's version is FAR better in every way. Samsung version looks like the one from early Android. If you try to turn it off it will turn ALL calendar apps off. If your force disable it, it messes with calendar event syncing. For now I just ignore it. Does anyone have advice on this?

For debloating your Note 5 check this thread :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/general/guide-bloating-touchwizzing-note-5-t3184563
You can practially disable everything with the package disabler app. It's great!

Using it, only did it to a few of the service though. It makes me nervous with some of the stuff that basic xml file has listed. I dont want to lose some of the functionality or risk stability. I did move to this because of being tired of the constant flashing and updating my past phones, lol.

I use the Basic list and even added some of my own to block. So far everything is still working great and I have had no problems whatsever. So you may try the Basic list if you like. I think it's a rather save list to start of with.
I'm still awaiting a safe root option for my N9208 because I would like to use adblock, titanium backup and have the option to edit build.prop (for better multitasking).
Looking forward to custom roms, but somehow I have a feeling there won't be many available (esp. for my duosim version).
Came from iPhone, s3, Note 2, Note 3, LG G4 and now the Note 5. IMO, it has the best screen, best camera of any phone regardless of platform. Super snappy. In the few months I've owned the phone had only one app force close itself. With my Note 3 after 18 months it was frustrating to use. I couldn't go a day without the phone freezing up, app force closing etc.
I'm optimistic my GNote5 will last me a year and stay fast until my next upgrade.
Very very satisfied.
Hey everyone I'm from Toronto, Canada. I currently own a Samsung Note 4. I wanna buy the LG V20 but I want to root it and also have it work with Freedom(Wind) mobile's LTE network. Is there a American or International LG V20 that is rootable & can take advantage of Freedom's LTE network.
Any answers would be helpful!
Thanks
hey there!
here you can find some details about the lte frequencies each version supports
https://www.techwalls.com/lg-v20-model-numbers-differences/
since freedom uses b4 and b66, I guess your only choice for a full LTE support is H918.
actually on freedommobile.ca you can get the h915 with full official support to their bands... no idea if it's rootable though, guess you'll need someone else to help on that
I'll bet if you went to the ROMs and other development subforum, you'd find the answer to your question regarding root. The search function will help you, too.
Like I said in another thread. Go back to your Note 4. Trust me I regret getting rid of my Note 4 for this POS. Went through 2 v20's already and waiting for my 3rd replacement as this one just died.
Dont do it. I sold my note 4 for a note 7, then of course had to turn the note 7 in and I mistakenly chose the V20 as a replacement. I wish I could have kept my Note 4, because the V20, even with updated processor, is no better than my previous Note 4. In fact, the camera on my note 4 was WAY better. =(

Whats wrong with the LG V20? I think it would be a perfect phone if it had a Super AMOLED display instead of Quantum LCD. I think that's the only thing I'm giving up. :crying:
I have both. The Note 4 was my primary phone before purchasing the V20. In my opinion, the V20 is a much better phone. My Note 4 has been sitting in my nightstand, untouched for months. I know many disagree, but I prefer the LCD display over AMOLED. While AMOLED may look slightly better, it really isn't something you'll notice in daily use. Plus, my Note 2, 3, and 4 all suffered from screen burn-in rather quickly. Something you don't have to deal when using an LCD display

Outside of the battery saving power of amoled and the stylus, everything is better than the note 4.
- faster processor (about x3 in benchmarks)
- double space
- 1gb more of ram
- better camera
- better display (in certain aspects)
- second screen no other phone has is quite useful once you get used to using it especially playing music without having to turn the screen on.
Having to replace a phone 3 times for defects is extremely rare, the chances of getting a perfect unit is much higher. I am curious to know what SaintZ had problems with.
I upgraded from a note 3 to a v10 and had no regrets and that phone wasn't nearly as good as the V20.

I know I wish it was Super AMOLED display then the LG V20 would be a complete upgrade. Can always swap out the battery. LG V20 looks like a direct upgrade to the Note 4.
Ive got my note 5 and the v20. I also had the hct 10.
I love the amoled screen for samsung but i was getting tired of not having something a little newer.
The v20 has s good processor and is managing heat a ton better then i imagined after their last few phone's.
The screen is big.. Overall color is that of a lcd. Cf lumen or any 9other color adjustment is a good option when rooted
The battery is fair. It is removable so that i guess is a plus.
No wireless charging
Finger print scanner
Dual cameras are cool.. Still some grain on screen when taking photos that shouldn't be there. It dosnt actually effect photo tho.
Ir sensor on top is nice. It reads and sends thats a huge plus.
Type c port is nice
Sd card slot.
I mean overall its not bad at all.. There could be some adjustments to speaker quality and the 2nd screen utilization. Its fast and sturdy.. Probably lgs best phone they've put together.. But the note 7 still would have killed it cold if it hadn't been recalled.

Agreed speaker could use a definite update only company that seems to do decent in this department is HTC.
I also think the options for the second screen when it is on should be the same as when it is off, the options when the screen is off is pretty limited.
I would agree on the note 7, in fact I was considering a jump from the v10 until all that battery bs happened.
If the Note 8 offers a removable battery I will definitely upgrade but that's very unlikely. I like getting aftermarket batteries for my phones and a battery charging case isn't the same in my opinion.

I was a huge fan of the Samsung Note line and I had every one of them up to the Note Edge (which is what I had up until I got the V20), but personally I had to draw the line when Samsung started trying to be like Apple and did away with expandable storage and removable battery with the Note 5.
It's just a shame because I actually really liked the Super Amoled screens and especially the S-Pen, but I just refuse to own a phone that can't be rooted, doesn't have expandable storage, and doesn't have an IR blaster (because I literally use it to control my entire house).
With that being said the only real option for me was the V20 and to be honest I was actually surprised to see all the negativity towards it, I love my V20 and I'm still extremely glad that I got it because I was honestly worried about whether I'd like it or not (especially just coming off of 6 plus years of having nothing but Samsung phones).
I love the placement of the fingerprint scanner/power button and it's just nice to finally have a fingerprint scanner that actually works right for once, and overall the V20 has been smooth as butter for me with impressive battery life, I really like and use the crap out of the dual cameras, and overall it's been hands down the best phone I've had to date.
To each their own of course but for me at least it covers all the "requirements" I look for in a phone, which unfortunately is getting to be like finding a diamond in the rough nowadays.. so I'm glad I found it!

V20 is is missing one thing though. A stylus. Other than that everything else trumps the note series handily.
I never used the stylus on my Notes for anything except doing a screen capture. On my V20 I have a screen cap icon setup on my buttons below the dock. Right between the home and recent app button.
Love my V20.

Even better we can use pie for shortcuts and all that if you are rooted . Screw the styles. Lol i never used it either when i went through the note's series
