Hi everyone, glad to see a comprehensive forum on HTC/Kaiser products.
Recently bought a Tilt and really do like this product, less the feathery lite feel in my pocket.
I do have a couple of questions to ask anyone familiar with the Tilt variation of this product.
I would like to upgrade my Tilt (already lol) to some of the better UI and utility screens that I have seen on the, TyTn II. Namely, the cool home screen & possibly even the "Touch Flo" utility if that actually works on my device. I was searching the posts in the XDA forums, but there seems to be many newer versions of these I assume because of improvements or...bugs maybe.
I found one called, "HTCHome6." Anyone know if this is a current or good one that also shows my local weather or weather where I am traveling too?
One other item that is concerning me, I migrated to a Tilt from an older iPAQ unit that was also "wi-fi" capable. However, when I try to connect to my home wireless (WEP) network utilizing a very standard LinkSys router, the Tilt will not connect to it, although the network is available. My iPAQ never had issues, so I am wondering what is going on with this.
Thanks for any help or suggestions. Look forward to this forum and maybe contributing something useful someday.
Michael
I have installed and uninstalled a number of firmware/mod combinations on my xv6800 in hopes to get the GPS working. I don't believe that's going to happen (saddly, I feel like there's a conspiracy out there to trick peeps like me into spending weeks on this problem without any positive outcome) so I'm currently focusing on what DOES work with this device.
One thing that's flakey is the wifi. At home I'm running WEP128. It connects sometimes, others it will not. When it does not automatically connect but sees it, it asks for the key each time. What's the deal with that? Entering my long a$$ key each time has made me memorize it, but it's still a serious PITA. I don't have the same issue at most other places - still using WEP128. Doesn't appear to have any issues connecting to open APs. Does have issues connecting to a friend's AP, i that it doesn't even SEE it as available any more, after the initial 3-4 connects.
Thoughts on why this could be happening? Not having the GPS makes me very angry, but then to not have reliable wifi practially makes the device pointless, as I have another phone, my own PED and an actual good camera... and a laptop.
thanks for any helpful thoughts.
Chris
Chris,
I'm assuming from your post that the "XV" indicates you have a Verizon Phone? If so you might look at this link pertaining to GPS

I'm not sure what to tell you about the WiFi. Mine works fine...

I have the verizon Titan and just use mac filtering on my wireless router. The encryption slows it down to much for me and basically need the same encryption scheme on both sides to get it to work properly. I don't do anything that it needs to be encrypted and the mac filtering keeps the neighbors out as well.

Wow, of all the tuts and instructions I've tried and read, that one has never crossed my screen - and I have tried at least 4-5 different ones. The phone's already unlocked and has a custom rom on it. I didn't get an impression either way if this method will reset the device/settings/files/etc in it again. I guess I could try it out. Thanks.
I'm getting to the point of just wanting to pay someone to get teh GPS working on it.
The Wifi issue is just weird and flakey. No rhyme or reason I can see.

I think of doing that often... but well... I don't have a but. WEP is hackable, but feels secure enough , considering I have a bunch of secure APs in my neighborhood... some obscurity helps as well.
I know that sometimes if I restart my AP (linksys wrt54g) the xv6800 will just find it and connect on it's own.

There is absolutely no reason why gps should not work on your device. In fact in this forum we really don't even discuss it too much anymore because it's really just an understood thing to be working. If you are on verizon use the latest alltel radio 3.42.xx I can't remember exactly, load dcd's 3.2.6 or 3.3.4 and start from there. Wifi on these roms have power saving features make sure if you are using wifi that you have strength up to full. Also, all the moguls that I have had, DO NOT COUNT ON THEM AUTOMATICALLY FINDING ACCESS POINTS, simply go to start->settings->connections "view all available access points" and select the one you want to use. I have heard cases of gps having trouble locking if wifi is on so make sure the switch is off and vise versa. Do the verizon qpst and registry settings change. On verizon you should have a lock within 30 seconds everytime if you are within the continental US. Good luck and take your time.

Haha... yeah, that's what's so frustrating. So many people getting it to work and me not. I'm no dolt. I follow directions quite well.

I have 3.42.something new within the last two months. My first attempt was with the DCD. Nada.
As for finding available access points, at my friend's place, it just shows it listed as unavailable. At home, it will SEE it and even attempt to connect, but often fails, except for those random times when it will connect.

Hm... will it maintain the lock with the wifi turned back on afterward? The whole point is to be able to use gmaps with the GPS. I can install other s/w that has it's own maps as well, bypassing the need for the wifi, but for starters, getting GPS working first is important.
It's a verizon phone, but I don't have service turned on yet. I'm not going to switch my number over until I'm happy with how it's set up. I do not intend on using a data plan - too expensive, so wifi when in range and other gps s/w when I'm not will be used.
Thanks for the words of encouragement. I have taken some serious time with this. The nice thing is that I don't have to rush, so I've tried MANY different things from the forums and even the PPCgeeks IRC channel. If I practice any more patience, I'll be sleeping.

That phonenews article was VERY helpful in getting me started, but:
It is ancient. Those old roms have problem. Use the newest DCD roms and radios found here. (thanks DCD and everyone)
ALSO, on the GPS.
If you EVER, EVER, installed the new Verizon MR1 upgrade, the GPS is locked. No worky no more..... But, simply find the older Verizon rom, it can be found. Downgrade to it and run it. Then go straight to the DCD rom/radio.

I did try the MR1 upgrade based aGPS hack, but I then realized that aGPS only matters if you've got a working GPS at all. Anyway, I then downgraded again and started over from scratch. I got my phone in September and did my series of hacks/upgrades/unlocks over the course of two weeks or nightly tries and retries. It's nice to hear someone say it WILL work, but Murphy's Law is working overtime with me on this one.
It is my understanding that if you don't have internet access than gps will not just not work on mogul. The gps one chip I believe is strictly an AGPS chip and cannot lock without using agps. However I guess some people have done it and use it, although even if you get it to work the lock will take forever. The mogul really needs that emphemeris data from the north american gps servers to function correctly. I didn't realize these were your terms.

I've never seen it written anywhere that one would be required to have a data connection with the service provider to get a GPS lock. Seems ridiculous to me. If I wanted to pay for a data connection, then why the heck not just pay for the VZ Navigator access??
I've never seen aGPS as a requirement either. If all the tuts were about aGPS, I'd see that having that data connection was important. Boy, I sure could use a definitive on this. If I KNOW for fact that GPS just doesn't work without a data connection, I'd have to suck it up and get an external bluetooth GPS device if I care enough. I have believed however all along that the whole point was to access GPS hardware without incurring data charges.
thanks,
Chris

its not the mogul, but same idea.

Also, not trying to undermind you, but why did you aquire the mogul if you weren't planning on using internet access? I mean you loose live search, google maps, pic and video messaging, skyfire, ie, youtube, and pretty much everything that makes a mogul a mogul. If you bought it for the soul purpose of using as a gps device you definitely bought the wrong device.

TOTALLY reasonable question.
I will use the phone when I have it set how I like it.
I got it so I could have a reasonably convenient way to freely check my email and surf when in wifi range without needing to lug my laptop around with me. I got a good price on it, much cheaper than an actual laptop.
Nice sized screen for when I want to actually watch a ripped movie or TV show and the option to install other software on a whim to have with me is just great. I got a ppc that can be a phone essentially. I'm not a phone person, too cheap to pay for a text plan, but wifi is key. The ability to open this phone up for GPS use was a major factor in picking it from lots of research before diving in.
Hi,
My 3dr solo drone uses my edge+ for displaying flight info and google maps for the area i am flying in, well at least it should have, and it works brilliantly on all other brands like moto, nexus, nvidia tablet etc..
The problem seems to exist on a all samsung galaxy device, tested it on my Tab S as well, and have gotten the same answer from other users with other galaxy devices.
Even if the wifi is connected to a non internet device the phone should be able to connect to internet through the 4g at the same time, but that doesn't happen, cant be an android thing since it works on most other brands, even work on my Windows pc
If there isn't any fix for it, would it be possible to work around this in the done app running on the phone ? i know the developer so if that's the case it could be implemented in the app.

I have the same problem when connecting my S6 edge plus with my Nikon D5500.
But I don't think there is a solution for this.
Any way to do this? Looking at some hardware for my car, problem is that I want WiFi based system for least amount of lag while having active data as said hardware won't be a Internet access point.
Other wise I suck it up and buy Bluetooth version or get it hardwired with USB which will suck for when I'm outside the vehicle.
Any thoughts?
This is most likely the wrong place to post, but I am using a V20 (note 7 refugee)
Found a link, amongst others they no good without root.

There are some tweaks under Developer Options to change how the phone prioritized cell/WiFi traffic. Maybe one of them will help.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ya it's there, except for the little note "for fast network switching". Although aggressive handover might work depending on how it handles high strength vs all data packets lost. But with both on it might work with it keeping cell data enabled.
Title pretty much covers it.....I have had it with the WiFi issues on the OP8 Pro and was going to go back to the OP7 Pro.
....but people are saying that they are all fixed in Android 11 beta on the OnePlus forums...is this true? And what about Dual SIM which I also need on occasion?
If I move to A11 OB2, can I root and get GPay working?
Is it stable enough to be a daily driver?
Many thanks in advance...

You can root OB2 device, and the OB2 seems usable and also stable enough for daily usage.
I recently acquired a oneplus 8 pro purchased directly from oneplus.com. I have model IN2025. It is the 12gig ram 256 gig storage version. I also have a samsung active watch 2 which I again have had no problems with my oneplus 7 pro. When I initially acquired it, I tried using it with the android 10 non beta firmware. I had multitude of issues up to and including:
1. high difficulty (to not at all) connecting to either my 2.4ghz wifi network OR my 5ghz network. It would state connecting however stall at obtaining IP address. No other devices have issues connecting to either networks including my older oneplus 7 pro.
2. if it would finally connect, while it may state that the 5ghz is connected at 300mbps or the 2.4ghz connected at 144mbps, with random speed tests I would not experience anywheres near those speeds (my ISP dishes out 200mbps). at most I would get 30mbps on my downstream....again if it even worked.
3. both the 2.4ghz and 5ghz networks would often disconnect and never reconnect if and when they did successfully reconnect
I installed the open beta 1 and then did OTA to open beta 2. This has helped quite a bit HOWEVER I've experienced the following issues:
1. while I have no longer received the locking up on obtaining ip address, even if it states I'm connected to my wifi (either the 2.4 or 5ghz) the network is still extremely slow
2. sometimes the device while connected to either wifi network will appear to not send any information aka stall which potentially makes using google messages over wifi unreliable as well aka text msgs show up late etc
In both pre and after beta installation 5g has been significantly slower than 4g cellular data(though I can't say much to that as more than likely the 4g in my area has towers closer near by). Also while on 4g or 5g cellular connections I have though not as frequently experienced data stalls.
Things that have helped resolve some of my issues:
1. this I believe is the largest potential bandage: make sure use device mac address NOT RANDOM is selected. After having done that my connecting to the internet appears to be better (even if it still stalls out)
2. while I've not tried it alot as I use bluetooth alot (with the watch I have and my car and wireless headsets)I've read that turning off bluetooth can help both wifi and cellular data issues
I am currently in the process with oneplus of returning the 8 pro for a new 8 pro as I have not owned/had the phone for greater than 15 days. If that does not resolve the issue, I too may go back to a oneplus 7 pro...or perhaps the 'dark side' and go the samsung route.

Excessiveidling,
This is exactly the type of info I was looking for. So it sounds like it is better, but still bizzare WiFi issues that no other phone on the market has. My situation is...
I have to leave bluetooth on because of watch and hearing aids
I need to rely on WiFI calling on occasion and need it to be 100% reliable.
I need working WiFi at home because I use my phone for some applications that connect via my home network, so having WiFi work "most but not all" of the time is a deal breaker.
So at this point I think I am going to switch back.
I've been a loyal OP fan for quite a while (4 phones now), this has been really disappointing. I even bought a new router because someone said WPA3 would help...but it didn't.
MW
While I can not say anything to the validity of the following statement...I have heard in other forums that the samsung devices with the same qualcomm chipset had wifi/cellular issues (especially with 5g).....that was only ONE forum post however unlike the multitudes of forum posts I've seen regarding the oneplus.
If I were to guess, only based upon my limited modding experiences with previous android phones, an updated modem/chipset software COULD resolve these issues...further more a different/modified kernel as well. Doing that would probably void any warranty though and for spending 800+ on a phone, you shouldn't have to modify in order for it to work just as well if not better than an older phone.
I'll let ya know how the exchange goes. I'm willing to give them another shot 1. because of my excellent experience with the 7 pro and 2. because I've seen so many posts, reviews, etc stating the oneplus 8 pro is THE PHONE to have overall.
Thanks,
E|
I read the same thing re - chipset, and agree that is a possibility. The other is a horrible RF design for the BT / WiFi antenna because they crammed in the wireless charging.
But I don't see any of this getting fixed anytime soon. I wonder if the OP8 (non pro) has similar issues -- I didn't check.
Let me know how your new phone works out - an RF HW update or a new batch of chips could change things.
