I am at my wit's end with this...2 days ago I deleted a picture from my phone which I did not wan't to delete, it was an accident. I researched the subject some, but all programs that could recover said photo required my phone to be rooted. I tried to use Towel Root, but it said my device was not supported. Later I found a program called MotoChopper. It had a .bat, an .apk for superuser and some other files. I got it to run fine with my phone, but after it would complete the rooting, it would say failure. It would then reboot my phone with superuser installed. When I opened superuser it asked me to update it. Upon clicking the recovery install button or just the install button it said it could not update and that something was wrong. Programs that required a rooted phone did not work either., and programs that can recover photos without a rooted phone cost money, My Android version is 4.4.2 and yes I enabled the USB settings in developer options so no that is not the problem. Can someone please help me, its driving me crazy... I am on system version 183.46.15.XT907

I am on the 4.4.2 port. Running with no issues. I still have the same weird Bluetooth sound issue as 4.4, and the only thing missing is the moto control panel widget. Everything else is working fine, and I love what they did with the dialer and with stock email. For my work exchange account the stock email now has a Gmail type interface, which is a welcome update.

I do miss the circle widget but will do until 4.4.2 drops from moto for the maxx if it ever does. I must just have to keep porting updates from the moto x

you can get Active Display from the Play Store
Rooted and running Topsnake's 4.4.2 ROM
I am still holding out hope that someone is able to figure out how to hijack that "charging light" and make it useful for a notification light....
I know the phone has active notifications, which are great for when you are close by, but i still miss having a colored notification light for each type of notification. That way I can tell from across the room what is going on and if it needs attention.
Hi all. I am getting my new Moto G today (XT1068) and want to have lolipop but also need root. I was wondering how I would do this? Also if I do manage to get root while on 5.0.1 can I use OTA to 5.0.2 or would I need to un-root first? I am new to rooting so I'd like the easiest way possible, thanks for your time!
Hello,
I'd like to say hello to everyone and BIG thanks for the community as a whole. This place is pure awesomeness.
I've got similiar question to OP. Got the retaildsdsall xt1068, haven't unlocked or rooted before and I'm currently on 5.0.2, 22.21.28.titan_retaildsds.retaildsdsall.en.03 reteu
I've been on retaildsdsall and upgraded using to newly captured OTA zip from SOAK for the xt1068, by copying it to the root of sd and upgrading using normal ota updater.
Everything went fine!
My question is, what is the most reliable way to root my device?
Is there any possibility to root without having to unlock? Will Chainfire's autoroot[dot]chainfire[dot]eu work for me? I read that there is a version which is ok for Lollipop, updated by Chainfire, but I can't seem to find it or confirm that it'll work.
Please shed some light on to that. Any experiences?
Hi @Reizoko & @Silent_Infiltrator
1. You have to unlock Bootloader to Root.
2. Install TWRP Recovery
3. Download and Flash latest BETA of SuperSU v2.44
Thats all
Note: You can't use OTA to update while rooted. You have to do a full unroot.

Right, seems easy enough. I guess I'll wait with stock unrooted until a bug-free version of 5.0 is out, will be good to make sure phone is all right aswell...

Well, the Brazil Soak Test version of Lollipop is really smooth and Bug Free, the Indian version.. Not so much! If you want to try Lollipop, I would recommend the Brazil Soak Test.
Hey
Just wanted to give quick heads-up on to the matter of rooting 5.0.2. Thanks for the tips, I did it as follows:
1. Got my European Moto G xt1068 (dual-sim version) updated to 5.0.2 using captured OTA zip here.
2. Unlocked my bootloader by following official Motorola guide.
3. Downloaded newest TWRP 2.8.4.0 from Original Development.
4. Used Fastboot to only boot TWRP by executing: fastboot boot twrp.img
5. Flashed newest SuperSU 2.44.
6. Enjoying root.
Thanks!

Krishna is not wrong as the XT1068 and 69 are pretty much the same. Only difference is the modems and radios I believe.

link doesn't work - btw, is this an update for someone running 22.21.28 to another build, or is is from another build TO 22.21.28? if so, what build?
Correct link
My guess is the original poster meant to post this link:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95897840722648255
Based on the size, it looks to me like the OTA or flash image (from recovery) from 4.4.4 to 5.0.2 official/pure stock.
Link fixed.
This updates 4.4.4 to Lollipop 5.0. This was captured from an XT1064 model.

Yes, I've gathered that much but what build was the device on that this was pulled from. Was is 21.11.17? that's important to note because the OTA files are specific to that build only. Otherwise if it IS 21.11.17 I have also uploaded the same OTA file - I suspect it is based on file size (412MB).

no worries! you just got me all excited at first - thought it might be the OTA I need to go to 22.21.25 to build 22.21.28 on my Consumer Cellular xt1064 (unlocked and reloaded with stock firmware). definitely going to - I should actually clarify that I am sim-unlocked, not bootloader. I've managed to get up to this point using all signed firmware and the right OTA file, but since I've severly burned my bridges over at moto's forum, there's no hope of me doing MFN.... so I'm going to be unlocking the bootloader shortly - I was kinda hoping an exploit-based root might come about, but no such luck! Definitely going to be checking out the CM12 builds, as well as using this phone as my first foray into tweaking , and eventually building roms. It was a little intimidating at first, but now I'm wondering what the heck I've been afraid of all these years.
With all the information and side convo - is it possible to be on 444 rooted, and sideload the 5.1 update and still be rooted? If yes, i'd like to see a thread to describe the process, as search yields to much to read in this lifetime, especially witht he xt1225 and not the 1254, and if no, that's great also, and i'll stick to the Nexus 6.

The XT1254 he mentions is the Droid Turbo. Whereas you just said "Turbo", which also is one of the model names of the XT1225 (Moto Turbo).
The XT1225 was released as both the Moto Turbo and Moto Maxx.
To avoid confusion, he stuck to model numbers, not partial model names.
But yes, in the Development section are plenty of 5.1 rooted images for the XT1254 Droid Turbo.
ok so let me understand - the xt1254 can be rooted using mofo, which i have - if i sideload the LLPop, it will still be rooted?

Hello
Today the Moto G 2014 (XT1064) for Nextel (now AT&T) Mexico, received the long-awaited Marshmallow 6.0 OTA update. So far, it's running well, and the upgrade process goes from 30-45 minutes, depending your installed apps.
I have captured the OTA, in case you need it or you haven't received it yet. I also have successfully tested it by sideload, so it's the real thing: v24.41.34 for NIIMX, though, should work on any LATAM carrier.
Hope some of you find it useful. File's here.
Enjoy!
Hello
Thank you very much friend.

Since it's an OTA you need to be unrooted, in case you are. You need to sideload it via ADB on stock recovery (method 2 on guide).
So I found in this forum like two months ago a method to root my phone without flashing a custom recovery (I can't leave the link due to my new account "[GUIDE][HOW-TO] Root Moto G 2014 WITHOUT flash a custom recovery"). In fact, my device is rooted and has its stock recovery. My question would be, should I use method 2 without unrooting my phone first? I'm asking you because I could easily try method 2 while being rooted but I fear that some error might come in.
By the way, If anyone wants another OTA.zip I have downloaded the official OTA I got for my unlock device. Blur_Version.22.56.3.titan_retmx.retmx.en.MX. Just send me a message.
Thank you.
