My Nexus X died this morning.
I have tried to get it into recovery mode but can't get it to work.
I get as far as the screen with the "dead" Android and manage to select "Recovery Mode" using the volume up/down.
However, when I then press the power button to start recovery it simply switches off the tablet.
Am I missing some important stage?
--- EDIT ---
It suddenly came alive again. Seems the gods love me.

Hey guys, I'm coming from the m919 forum, but maybe you guys could help a brother from another mother(phone? lol) out...
My s4 has been acting very weird lately. The button combo (vol up+home+power) doesn't work for me. If i try it, it goes straight to download mode. I get no gs4 splash screen at all. Only way to boot into recovery is through goo manager. BUTTON COMBO DOES NOT WORK!
If I restart the phone through the power menu it only boots into download mode. If I turn off the phone through the power menu, it will turn off for a second, and then boot into download Mode as long as the battery is in. I press no buttons. Only way it reboots "regularly" is when I get into recovery through goo manager and selecting reboot system.
Only other way to boot the system is doing button combo for download mode and hitting cancel when the screen comes up.
I was advised to Odin back to stock, which I did. Problem is still there.
The phone did turn off and stay off for about an hour, then the download mode thing came back. This is driving me crazy.
Has ANYONE run into this problem? It can't be just me, my luck can't be that bad.
If it matters, I'm running rooted stock 4.2(MDL) with twrp v2.6.3.1 installed
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Before anyone links me to different threads, the device this is happening to does work, it is still a big concern of mine though
My problem is that when I press the Power and Volume up buttons to start up my tablet, instead of getting all of the normal options (Restart boot loader, Recovery mode) I get a screen that says "Downloading... Do not turn off target" and I'm stuck on start (Volume buttons do nothing) but start still boots my device and it boots like normal without pressing any volume buttons
If it helps, it started doing this after a crash which my have done something to the firmware (But I'm not the smartest guy on this site)
My device is stock but rooted with an unlocked boot loader

On my N10, Power+Volume Down button will put it into "Downloading" mode and I have to press Power+Both Volume Up and Down at the same time to enter normal bootloader mode.

Well this makes me feel dumb, thanks for the answer
I have a i9500 S4, it is stuck on a boot loop. It starts up, Samsung Galaxy S4 I9500 pops up and within 1.5-2 seconds restarts again to the same screen. I CAN, however get into download mode. Whenever I get into download mode, it will not let me press the "Volume Up" button to continue into download mode. The volume up button works perfectly fine. I cannot go into recovery mode.
Is there any way I can get into download mode without pressing of the buttons or other alternative methods?
Will thank greatly + Rep

Hi mate,
Check your power button it looks like it is stuck or defective.
Hi!
I have some interesting problem and I could not find any solution in web.
I have Samsung galaxy Tab 4 10.1 SM-T535 LTE.
For unknown reasons device went to "Device memory damaged" mode (white screen with blue notification) and only one button "Reset device".
Luckily this button to nothing (you can push on it as many times us you want - no reaction).
I tried to make soft reset (Power + volume down buttons) - no reaction.
Tried to lunch recovery mode (Power + volume up + home buttons), after that I get notification, that recovery mod is lunching, android error symbol appears (without any text) and device automatically reboots.
I tried to connect tab to PC, PC found the device, ODIN recognized it, but if I try to upload something, nothing is working (probably do to that, that I need to enabled download mode, but I cannot do it, because recovery mod not launching).
Maybe you have some suggestions.
Hello all,
New member here. Several weeks ago my phone started randomly turning off and back on. It then got to the point where it would turn off and flash "recovery booting" in blue letters. I was not able to use any key commands to fix it but when I wanted to, I could get to the download screen (Power + home + volume d). Fast forward to today where I just learned how to flash. I went to flash the phone and suddenly cannot get my phone to respond to the key triggers to get it into the download mode. Any ideas?
