[Q] recover data from sd card - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i have an 64GB sd card that i have used to store pics and some apps in my galaxy S4 but today it is unrecognizable by the phone it displays a message saying sd blank or has unsupported files and it does not let me mount it , is there any way to recover my data from the sd card before i format it ??
Thanks in advance.

You may be able to use a file recovery program on your PC to get the data off. It depends on whether the PC can mount the file system or not.

SD Card mounting problem

I have the sd card which came with the phone.
There was a virus in there.
I removed the virus and formatted the card.
Now the phone recognizes the card.I can transfer files via bluetooth.
But i am not able to connect it to the computer.when i tap mount,it says sd card mounted but it doesn't show up in the computer.
I tried mounting it wid my bro's galaxy s2 and it mounted........plz someone help me.......

Have you formatted sd by your phone or pc? Format by device is correct one I guess for this matter.

[Q] Rooting without internal SD

Hi,
I got a Galaxy Y from a friend and I was trying to MOD it. I discovered that the internal SD is not available... and no way to get it back. I tried to wipe data, hard reset, stock firmware upload with ODIN but no way to get the internal SD back. I tried ADB in order to try to push the ZIP files in a ROM folder but of course no permissions as it's not rooted.
So, no way to root my mobile without copying the files to the SD?
Thanks in advance
Joe
I dont know what you mean by internal sd - galaxy y 5360/6102 doesnt have internal sd - it uses a mico sd card to which you will find the slot if you take the cover off and look on the right hand side of the phone
place any files you want on the sd card either via card reader or usb cable
please note that questions should be asked in the question and answer section and NOT the general section

Thanks Marcus,
I did not know the mobile had no internal SD.
That's the kind of information that saves a lots of time and work!
Thanks again.

Ok,
I tried to use a Miscro SD on the GT-S5360 but there was no way to have it acccepted by the phone.
I formatted the Micro SD (Sandisk 2G) in many ways (full formatting) and it was mounted OK with all my other phones (Galaxy S, LG L5II, Huawei) but not for the Galaxy Y. I tried to format the card with the other Samsung too but it did not work..
I've read a lot around about the "blank SD" issue on many mobiles and tried some of the suggested tricks but with no luck.
So, assuming there is no way to have a MicroSD installed on the phone, I resume the original question:
- Is there any way to root the GT-S5630 without an SD card?
Thanks in advance
Joe
well unless your sd card slot is damaged there should be no reason why it shouldnt work
the sd card needs to be formatted in fat32
there best way to do it is to inset your sd card into your phone
goto phone settings
storage
unmount sd card (sd must be unmounted before you can format it)
format sd card
you can also format it via your pc using a card reader as long as its fat32 but its best to format it using the phone or format it again using the phone as sometimes cwm may have problems mounting the sd card if you use something else to format it
You might find universal root tools via google but the quickest most simple way is just to use a root zip file and flash it in recovery or cwm

Thanks Marcus, your replies are very quick .
I tried formatting the SD card FAT32 with different Allocation unit sizes, always full formatting, never quick.
The SD card is recognized as BLANK SD CARD (or unsupported filesystem) when inserted with the phone ON. The same occurs when I switch ON the phone with the SD card alredy inserted. The card is never mounted
The internal formatting functionality of the phone seems to be not working at all. The function FORMAT SD CARD is enabled but when launched it lasts just few seconds and nothing happens (the card is not mounted neither automatically nor by hand).
There could be some compatibility issues between the card and the phone and it could be worth to buy another SD to test the phone card reader again, but I'm not confident it will work.
Phone specs
Android Version: 2.3.6
Baseband: S5360XXMC2
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XXMI1
Thanks again

allocation unit size is I think 16 kilobytes but just select default - quick format is fine if the card is not damaged
you can try using mini tool to delete the partition on the sd card and create a new one and format it to fat32
you can then try reformatting it on your phone after
Mini Tool Download

Thanks for your help Marcus,
I tried MiniTool, with both FAT and FAT32 (the card is a 2GB card) but the result is still the same: BLANK SD CARD.
I will try to buy a new one tomorrow and see if it makes any difference...
Thanks again

Ok I got a new MicroSD today and everything seems to work fine.
Thanks again Marcus.

Can't restore sd card

(Sorry for my bad english[emoji14])
Hello, i bought a new sdcard just yersteday. Right a hour ago, i've plugged it in my P8Lite and it was working well. Then i decided to create another partition(ext4) to link my obb app files with Link2sd in my sdcard via pc. Everything gone well but when i've put it in, my phone told me that the sdcard is broken and i need to restore it. When i try to restore, it fails and shows me this message:
" 'command 118 volume unmount public:179:129' failed with '400 118 command failed' "
I've tried to restore it with my pc, change file system to: ext2-3-4, FAT and exFAT, i've tried to wipe it but still nothing. My pc detects my sd (cause i've an adaptator for pc) and i can put files in, but with my phone i can't do nothing. Does anyone have this problem too? Thanks to anyone that wants to help me.
My phone specs:
P8Lite B564 with root and xposed
The problem is that you need to format the SD Card to FAT32. The other problem is that windows natively only gives you the format to FAT32 option on 32GB sizes and lower. What you have to do is download a FAT32 formatter and put your sd card in your pc using the adapter and format it completely to FAT32. Good luck hope I was able to help you

No Access to SD Card Please Help

16gb isnt enough, bought a 64gb sandisk sd card but after inserting it in and setting up as portable storage, my phone cant write files to it??? I have to use a special browser with root access just to delete some pics. On my old phones it had a directory name like "sdcard1" but on this it has "9DAE-180F". Its recognizing it like a otg usb drive. Which i think is my mistake cuz i chose "setup as portable storage"
Now i have a lot of data on my sd card which would be a pain in the ass to backup and then retry formatting as internal storage. So what i wanna know is will it have proper sd card access for all normal apps and behave like a normal sd card like all other phones i ever used? Or am i just gonna waste time trying out all this.and formatting wouldnt work?

I believe in MM and above we have to explicitly allow apps to access the external storage. check your gallery/photo app permissions and see if access to 'storage' is enabled
Update: i backed up all the data and when i formatted the card as an internal storage it extends the internal storage. Which solved the issue . But when i remove the sd card and connect it seperately some files show up and some dont. U dont know if the files is weather stored in internal or external storage which i dont care about anyways cuz im never getting the sd card out of the phone again. Lovin it

android will encrypt the sd card if you set it as internal storage and you won't be able to access the content outside the phone, so if your phone goes crazy or bricked, there's high chance that you'll lose your files forever

It just finished disappeared. Now it doesn't connect to anything tried reinserting , connecting to pc but no luck.
I'm sick and tired of this ****. I just wanna use the frikkin phone.
Thought I should restore via twrp but my backup was in sd card and twrp is also not detecting it.
Is there any way I can get my sd card working again?
After sdcard is fixed I'm gonna throw this piece of **** in a lake or something.

media from s8 to pc seems corrupt!

Hi all I have a Samsung s8 sm-G950f and manually copied all folders from the phone storage and sd card storage directories. Fully reboot the phone as its going in for repair at a Samsung shop tomorrow. However when accessing either the jpeg and mp4 files so photos and videos that were stored on phone and now backed up to pc the media wont open either saying corrupt, damaged or not supported. But its said the same to all media from phone storage backup and sd card backup.
To rule out it wasn't a bad transfer I didn't format the sd card and tried viewing them from the sd card on the pc and inserting it into a Samsung tablet but the same thing happens. But when the sd card was in the phone only 15mins prior to that they were all fine.
Now im massively freaking out as I wont have a backup of all my photos and videos!!!!!
Please help
Thanks
