hello everyone,
my nexus 4 notified me of the 5.5.1 update and took it but i noticed after the update my battery seems to be draining faster than before. if i have a full battery and leave it unplugged all night it will be completely dead the next day. is anyone else experiencing this? i am about to factory reset to see id it clears up the issue. if that doesn't work would i be able to go back to 5.1 without rooting?
thanks

I had the exact same issue; yes, you're going to have to do a factory reset, that's what fixed it for me. It's generally a good idea after an upgrade of any kind, even a small one like this, to do a factory reset to avoid any potential issues.
I have a problem with charging, my device charging 5 hours!!! from 1% to 100% on charger from HTC One M8(1,5A) I installed stock factory image 5.1.1 used flash-all.bat but problem stayed ... Please help me, i don't know what my phone doing -,-

It takes a couple hours to charge in general. If it wasn't doing that before, try a different charger, to see if that fixes the problem.
yea i have tried many cables and some just charge the phone slower than others. i find really short cables will charge the phone quicker too. anyway it seems a factory reset cleared up my battery issues so thank you for the help

I'm finding that sometimes when I plug in the tablet to charge even if they battery is almost full, as soon as I plug it in it will think the battery is at 0% and start shutting down.
When I power it on and look at the battery stats it shows that the battery went to zero and then goes back up to were it was before the shutdown.
Also another issue is that the battery status will say its not charging even though it's not plugged in and the level never goes down even after a reboot. I find to fix it I need to go into a custom recovery and reset the battery stats for it to return to normal for a few hours.
I'm running on the stock image.
Its annoying, but I'm hoping that the next update will fix this.
Can't say I've ever experienced such an issue, on any device. If your looking for a fix, perhaps reflashing the factory image completely might help (I don't understand the battery stats file too much, but I would think a reflash would probably replace that file, and fix the problem).

I thought I was the only one with these problems. Never had these issues on my Galaxy Nexus. Now on the N10 I have the first problem you mentioned + battery % not moving until I reboot the unit (Random). Very annoying...I called Google Play support and after doing some test told me that they'll send my a new unit.
Note: I've flashed the Google image and I still had the issue (seems less frequent)...Sometimes I can have the % correctly refreshed and sometimes it stops after a few minutes.
I've attached screenshots of the problems...(1st image) Long straight lines were when I was actually using the device!! Cut in graph = reboot
Second image: both problems, check out the spike a 0%!! when plugging usb cable

I have the same issue and my replacement is on it's way.
So I called support and I'm getting a replacement device.
I've been searching everywhere, thanks to this thread now I know I'm not the only one having these exact same issues. Looks like I'll be making a call to Google Support
Probably a software issue to be addressed in a later update.
Are these issues still present on the replacement devices?

So far not happened on my replacement device. Went from 70% to almost 10%. Still testing. Also wakeup time is normal. I think it was hardware related.
EDIT: on my 3rd day and this new device always correctly reports battery life. Definitely hardware.

I'm having the exact same issue with battery % not updating at random times and then sometimes the n10 claims 0% battery after recharging overnight and promptly turns itself off. Did the replacement unit fix this for you?

Yes my replacement unit is perfect. On my fourth day now and no issues whatsoever. My first unit was doing it day 1.

I got my replacement unit 4 days ago and the problem is definitely gone! On my first device it also happened since day one.
My Nexus 10 just started doing this after a reboot last night, I guess I'll have to ring support and get a replacement.
I'm running a custom kernel, recovery and unlocked bootloader. Do I have to flash back to complete stock before I send it in?
Cheers guys
I'm not sure if I have this issue, but my N10 is definitely acting strange.. I put it in my bag this morning on 42% charge and when I took it out in the afternoon it was dead (I thought I might have hit it to something and damaged it), but when I plugged it in it started to charge after a few minutes from 0%. Then it rebooted after like 5 minutes without me touching it and it's charging for now. The battery stats don't show a drop to 0%, the graph ends at 42..
I've had this device for around 3 months now and never encountered this issue before, so I'm not sure if it's really a hardware issue, but I'd be quite disappointed if I had to get a replacement as this one is a really good one in terms of the other common issues (bleed, throttling, creak).
Hey all,
Since unrooting my phone the battery seems to go down a lot faster, now I didn't clear anything off the phone once I added the new firmware so that maybe the issue.
When I look at the battery meter it's saying most of it's being used by android services, can anyone help me sort this?
Cheers
Paul
Hi,
Try recalibrating your battery . To do it, just let it fully discharge, then charge it completely while turned off (battery icon will pop up). After it you'll let it discharge completely again and do the same. I don't know if it's really the method, but always worked for me .
~Lord
Before unrooting did you use stock rom too?
Sent from my GT-I9500 using XDA Free mobile app
Yes used stock firmware to unroot everything and went okay but now my battery doesnt last long and wondered what I can potentially try to sort the issue out. I have tried letting the battery drain as above.

It's not.
Charge to 100%, pull battery, charge again to 100% while off. Battery calibrated. Fully discharging only damages your battery.
Yes I have done this also.
I have now done a factory rest and wiped everything clean so I will report back with my findings. Fingers crossed.

Problem fixed after the factory reset
Hi,
on Sunday I installed Lollipop using the factory image and ADB (so everything is clean).
I came from Kit Kat 4.4.2 stock with semaphore manager (don't know if it is important).
The battery drain with 3G is pretty huge, but I think it's normal with a new firmware. The real problem is with charging time: when I plug my phone to the charger (original LG charger I used with Kit Kat) it says it will take 9 hours to recharge, than after few minutes it reduces the valuation (8 hours and than 7 hours). Than it says 6 hours and remains with that value.
And it actually takes A LOT to fully recharge....but it's not only a matter of 100% recharge, also to get for example from 30% to 40% it takes a lot of time.
Searching on the forum nobody has this problem and I am pretty sure it's a software fault (even if I thought it couldn't be possible) not the charger. How can I resolve this issue? Do you think a factory reset could be enough? Do I have to re-install everything again?
Thank you all and sorry for my english, it's not my native language.
Hallo
Have exactly the same issue.. I updated from 4.4.4 via lollipop ota image using sideload
Same long time as you, im also pretty sure it is software issue.
I have tried to wipe the cache with no improovement
Did you dolve?
running 5.0 since the day they released the factory image
experiencing battery life is slightly increased ..getting ~4hrs SOT with wifi continuously on 5.0 as compared to ~3hrs on 4.4..display is pretty much on the dim side though..
haven't noticed any increase in charging time
so might be an odd bug...
check ur battery settings-does it say charging with AC or USB??
as it takes a lot of time on USB..
had this problem once on 4.4 as it wasnt detecting the wall charger as AC but as USB..
reboot n see whether it solves the problem,or as last option u might need to do factory reset
hit thanks if this helped u

Thanks for the advice. Just checked and it sees my charger as AC.
Has the factory reset on lollipop firmware the same effect as installing the factory image (of lollipop of course) with ADB?

remember, factory reset will simply bring u back to the basic factory image which u have sideloaded, will take care of any temp software issues that have developed during the course of your phone's functioning.
factory reset is simply a last resort of checking out that option
however it will not solve the problem if it is caused by a bug in the factory image itself...
as the lrx21t is just the first build ,it might be containing this bug..
u can wait for MR1 if u dont want to go down that lane...
i am not responsible if u brick ur phone while sideloading/rooting..its ur decision

thanks for your reply.. I've checked and also my N4 recognize the AC wall charger. it gives me an average recharging time of 3 minutes / 1% battery. That means 300 minutes (5 hours ) for a full recharge..
does it sound reasonable for you?
I don't think you're the only one with this issue, other sites and fora are reporting similar stuff. I actually don't know if i have the same issue, i haven't been paying real attention at the charge time but it could be longer then it was. I also flashed the factory 5.0 image and had the phone on my dock while installing and discovering L for the first time. The battery level decreased while charging on my USB dock have been using the same dock with same usb cable on the same computer for a very long time, this was a first with L.

nope,it's longer than it should be..
mine takes ~3-3.5 hrs for full charge from 0-100%,including trickle charge, giving a ratio of 1%/2mins(lol, had never calculated on those terms) even with intermittent usage and wifi on during that period.
if its affecting multiple users, must be a bug...'dont worry,MR1 should sort out such major issues..
n from what i've heard, nexus 5 seems more badly bug-ridden than nexus 4.. so hold on,this is just the 1st part of the series, sequels expected soon (considerring the no of bugs which are surfacing)
till that time,if its a major issue,go back to 4.4.4
update on the MR1 when it comes out..

Apart for this issue (that i can live with) My nexus 4 is behaving quite well with no other blocking bugs ... It seems to me a little slower than 4.4.4 but i like lollipop so i think i will stay with it
Thanks

Factory Reset solved my problem.. now with the AC I have full recharge time of about 2 hours and half
many thanks
Today I recharged my phone from 32% to 87% in 2h and some minutes (don't know exactly how many). Anyway I didn't do anything different.
Maybe was a calibration issue or something.

I have been experiencing agonizing slow charges with v5. Did a clean install. I did notice that my battery info page states that it is charging via USB, whilst I am charging with AC. I never noticed that before on KitKat (maybe it was not shown). While my WiFi is on and I am charging, ouch, it takes forever, anc at one time I thought it was even going backwards. I guess that there is some type of charging throttling going on and my N4 never had any problems with charging with any of the V4 up to KitKat.

if u r sure u have had this problem from kitkat only then give it a shot n flash the factory image of jellybean,or flash some custom rom, should sort out any rom issues
if u dont want to do that, then wipe cache and flash/sideload your image(4.4.4/5.0)
or try a factory reset ,works sometimes
if its a software issue, then wiping your phone clean should solve it,atleast on 4.4.2/3,acc to ur past experience..
if its a circuit charge route issue, then its a hardware issue..

Hello,
My girlfriend's Nexus 4 is having problems since she updated it to Lollipop. When it was at 4.4.4 Kit Kat, it was running fine, but since she updated it (OTA), now the phone is always loosing network (always asking for PIN code, like once or twice per 5 minutes) and the phone turns off at about 50% battery without any kind warning. After that happens, the phone only boots if plugged to the charger.
I tried to factory reset it and the problem persisted. The same happened after a manual installation of Lollipop, using adb tools. I don't know what to do know. I will try to revert to 4.4.4 KitKat and see if the same happens, but she would like to continue using Lollipop, because she prefers that OS.
Thanks for your help!
im in a similar situation...
i am in a similar situation....but at 80%, also, doing some hard task will power off the phone, and will not boot untill its in a charger.
You should just avoid over-stressing your batteries every day (which means discharging to 1%, using it too heavily while charging and such).
Lithium batteries have a life cycle, you know.
But she didn't overstressed the battery.. That problem only started after updating to Lollipop. She maintained her charging habits.
I have a friend in the exact same situation. He already factory reset his Nexus 4 and the problem persists. This only started to happen after the Lollipop update. Any ideas?
I've been having strange fluctuations in the battery which I noticed and I was assuming it was some of wake locks or alarms causing this drain.
I also noticed the battery getting heated during charging.
The weirdest issue I faced is that every first boot after full barge reduces to -10%later reboots meet them intact I noticed this on stock rom and custom rom also, Also while charging I saw that from 93%to 100 %jump was just in few min which is totally ubnormal.
Tough my fast charging was turned off.
Hopefully it's just a battery issue I can't live without this device after giving it for service.
Is anybody else having these issue ??
I think its a software issue did you try doing a factory reset ? Disable all the useless apps? Remove the battery once in awhile? Jumps from 93-94%to 100 is not uncommon

I guess this has been fixed by resetting the battery gauge after full charge to 100% I had to pull the battery wait for about 3mins and put it back after this reset procedure looks like the last 2 charge cycles dint have those random drops after reboots, but I've the battery drains I need to figure out what problem is I get a maz of 4hsot.
