[Q] Help! N910C Kies 3 - Firmware Upgrade Initializing Failed - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My phone is a brand new Samsung Galaxy Note 4 N910C purchased and located in Dubai. After purchasing, I updated my phone to Lollipop 5.0.1 using official phone update. But now when I am connecting it to PC via Kies 3, It's getting connected but when I go to firmware upgrade initialization or emergency firmware recovery, the phone is getting disconnected automatically. Please suggest me a perfect solution for this.

Firstly uninstall Kies.
Then download official firmware for your model and region from Sammobile, then extract the .zip file.
Remove your phones battery (make sure the device isn't connect to anything via the Micro USB port) wait for 10 seconds.
Then place the battery back in and hold the volume down, home button and power button at the same time. You should be prompted to press the volume up button to continue.
Once at the 'Downloading' stage connect your phone via USB to your computer.
Run Odin as admin and select the PDA tick box and navigate to the directory where you extracted the firmware.
Then press start, hopefully it should work. Please make sure you uninstall kies and that you are downloading the correct firmware for your region and model!
Samsung USB drivers: http://developer.samsung.com/technical-doc/view.do?v=T000000117
Odin 3.07: http://androidhost.org/wmmOt
These are the steps to help you update to the latest firmware, I didn't quite understand why you were trying to go to 'firmware recovery in Kies'.

[Q] Little help with my S4 please!

So i have a rooted galaxy S4, it also has a flashed rom on it (its an s4 rom but was manually flashed due to a few problems)
So I was wondering, is there any way for me to unroot my phone, but also reset everything else (I mean the flashed rom etc back to normal..., and just have my S4 like I just bought it?)
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
-Eddie
in order to reflash the original rom you had, you need to have some former-flash informations:
-Android version you had before the flash
-Country of origin of the rom (not really important but if you want it really as you had it from factory you need this information)
Now what you need to do is to activate usb debugging from parameters : (Plus -> about device -> tap 8 times on baseband version, it will tell you that developper mod is activated, back to menu, tap developper options, tick usb debugging)
You need to download Odin 3.07 or whatever (i advice you use this one.)
and download the firmware you exactly want from sammobile (Warning, choose the exact model device you have)
then you need to factory reset your phone (via recovery)
now shut down your phone, put it on download mod (down volume + home button + power button)
press up, open odin on your computer then plug your phone to the computer. wait until your phone is detected in odin (a blue com will appear on odin). if your phone is not recognized, install usb drivers (google it) and turn off kies.
now extract the firmware you downloaded from sammobile, you will have a .tar.md5 file, click on pda, (or ap if newer odin version), then choose the file (it will take a long time to charge, if you don't want to wait, you can rename the .tar.md5 file to just .tar)
Click start and wait until "pass!" appears on odin.
That is all.

I9190XXUBNA1 Upgraded to Kitkat Success

hi all,
ive been having fast dormancy issues and i got so annoyed, i decided to take a chance and upgrade to Kitkat.
i have a GT-I9190 S4 Mini, unbranded , supplied by CellC South Africa,
For those with the I9190XXUBNA1 models,
i would like to confirm that the kitkat I9190XXUCNG1 works successfully with no issues on this model.
hope this helps others.
its very laggy for the first 2, 3 minutes. i would suggest you leave the phone for about 10 minutes after the home screen shows up.
i did this with 100% battery life, knox counter has not been tripped btw.
i would like to thank ibtimes.co.uk , i followed the guide from their site.
Im not a reg user on the forum, but i thought i would share this is since ive seen the I9190XXUBNA1 model to have very less info online about them.
How to install I9190XXUCNG1 Android 4.4.2 on Galaxy S4 Mini GT-I9190
Step-1: Extract the downloaded firmware zip using winrar/7zip/winzip or any other extracting tool to get a .tar.md5 file with few other files, which are optional
Step-2: Extract the Odin zip to get Odin3 v.3.09.exe with few other files
Step-3: Switch off the S4 Mini and wait for some time until the device goes off completely
Step-4: Reboot the phone into Download Mode by pressing and holding Home, Power and Volume Down buttons together
Step-5: Run Odin on the computer as an Administrator
Step-6: Connect the S4 Mini to computer using USB cable while it is in Download mode. Wait for some time until Odin detects the device. When the phone is connected successfully an Added message will appear under Odin. Also, the ID: COM box in Odin will turn light blue with COM port number, indicating successful connection
Note: If the Added message does not appear, then try to re-install USB derivers or change the USB port on the computer.
Step-7: In Odin, click the AP button and select the .tar.md5 file which was extracted earlier
Step-8: Enable Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time checkboxes. Ensure that Re-Partition checkbox is not ticked
Step-9: Double check everything then click the Start button in Odin. The installation process should begin now and take about few minutes to complete
Step-10: When the installation process is completed, the phone will restart automatically. Once the home screen appears, disconnect the phone from the computer

Possible to downgrade from PIE to OREO?

My wife and I have ATT S8's which were updated OTA to PIE a couple of months ago and since then, we have been fighting with high battery drain. I've done several full complete wipes and even replaced the 1.5yr old original battery on my phone thinking it was bad, yet still, both phones drain with little to no use. By late afternoon, the battery is down to the teens.
I'm 100% convinced it's PIE, based on other complaints of battery drain since their S8's were updated to PIE.
So I want to downgrade back to a factory ATT OREO firmware. Both phones are currently on PIE version G950USQSDSE5. Can I safely downgrade to an official ATT OREO firmeware, ie. G950USQS5CRL1 or G950USQS3CRE2 using ODIN without the risk of bricking?
If so, what is the correct ODIN process to follow? I've read different instructions.
One of them reads:
1. Download and extract a zip file containing your desired firmware.
2. Open Odin Tool.
3. Boot your device in the "Download Mode": Press Volume Down, Power and Home buttons at same time for 5-8 seconds until download mode is active.
4. Connect your device to PC via the USB cable while in download mode.
5. Next, check the "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time" options in Odin Tool.
6. Hit the AP/PDA button then browse and select a tar.md5 file from the extracted folder.
7. Finally press the start button to begin flashing the firmware update on your device.
Another guide states:
Extract the firmware file you just downloaded. You should get 5 files:
AP (System &Recovery)
BL (Bootloader)
CP (Modem / Radio)
CSC_*** (Country / Region / Operator)
HOME_CSC_*** (Country / Region / Operator)
Add each file to it's respective field in Odin v3.13.3. Use CSC_*** if you want to do a clean flash or HOME_CSC_*** if you want to keep your apps and data.
Reboot your phone in Download / Odin mode (make sure your device is off) with the following button combo: POWER + VOLUME DOWN + BIXBY
Once in download mode, connect your phone to the PC, preferably using the original USB cable you got with your phone. Odin should detect your device and a BLUE box will show up with the COM port number. (Be sure, the SAMSUNG-drivers are installed on your PC!)
Do NOT tick any extra boxes. The only options to be ticked are F.Reset Time and Auto-Reboot.
Click the start button, wait for Odin to say 'PASS' in a GREEN box. Once the flash is complete, your phone will reboot, and you can disconnect your phone from the PC.
Any help to get us back to OREO is greatly appreciated!
I was able to successfully downgrade, but even with disabling software and security updates, PIE forced it's way back onto my phone after a week or so. I need to find a way to block updates so I can go back to Oreo and stay on it.
Hey, I have the same phone and I am having an issue finding the correct firmware for it. Can you give me a link to the firmware you downgraded to that worked? I just flashed it with ODIN, but the firmware I used caused it to get stuck in a bootloop on the ATT screen and it wont turn on. Thanks!
I need to do this to my S8 Active. It finally went to Pie a few days ago and I cannot stand it.

How to install S4 Mini firware in to a rooted device!

Hey guys! I don't know if anyone else uses Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini today. But I had to install a firmware in the model GT-I9190! This should have been easy enough, but for me it was a little more complicated. I searched for hours for a good firmware. And finally I found one compatible with my region. (Europe).
If anyone else needs to do this. I will offer here the simplest and easiest way to install firmware in Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini GT-I9190.
Here is what you need to successfully install:
1. Laptop or PC
2. USB cable
3. SAMSUNG USB Driver for Mobile: developer.samsung.com/galaxy/others/android-usb-driver-for-windows
4. Odin 3.09 or higher - odindownload.com/Samsung-Odin/#.XWLDG3tDP4Z
5. Firmware for your phone: samfrew.com/download/GALAXY__S4__mini__/ie59/SER/I9190XXSCQA2/I9190QERCOD1/ (01.10.2017 multi languages)
samfrew.com/download/Galaxy__S4__Mini__/v050/SER/I9190XXUCOC1/I9190QERCOD1/ (27.03.2015 multi languages)
-First of all you have to download and install SAMSUNG USB Driver for Mobile and Odin on your computer.
-Download the firmware for your phone into a folder and unzip it.
- Open Odin: right click, runs as Administrator.
- Select only two options in Odin: Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time
- Turn OFF the phone and Power On in Download Mode: (Download Mode: Volume Down button + Home Button + Power On Button, at the same time)
- If the phone started with the android logo now, push volume up once to enter download mode
- Now connect the phone to the computer in download mode.
- In the left corner in the text box it must be written: <ID:0/006> Added!!
- Now press the AD button and select the firmware from the folder where it was unzipped.
- If all went well. Then press start button and wait for Odin to do the job. This may take several minutes.
- When everything is ready in the first box on the left side you will need to see PASS
- That's all. Enjoyed your phone

Charge your phone for some time and see if it turns on and if it does go to download mode or emergency recovery screen is download mode too and try the following steps
1. While your phone is on the Emergency Recovery Screen or download mode, connect it to the computer.
2. Open Odin and load all the firmware files. Download the original firmware file
3. You will find that Odin has already detected your phone.
4. The options checked in Odin should be F.Reset.Time and Auto-Reboot.
5. After making all the preparations, click on the “Start” button in Odin.
6. Let the firmware flashing end. Once done, disconnect the phone and let it turn on. You will be out of the Emergency Recovery/Download mode Screen now.

Which firmware did you attempt to flash? For your device only 3 firmwares will work, Hong Kong, China and Taiwan. It's not a Multi-CSC device so if you attempted flashing the Egypt firmware (Exynos) you could be SOL.

I had a device - laptop connectivity issue on my SM-G9750. I tried updated drivers, different cables and adapters. Strangely enough it wasn't until I updated Windows 10 that the problem was solved. If you haven't done so you might give this a shot.
