Figured out how to unlock AT&T Samsung ATIV 500T - Windows 8 General

Hey , I have seen many questions about unlocking the Sammy ATIV 500T. I have had mine for almost a year now and could not get it to accept a t-mobile sim card. Well today I finally figured it out.
So whoever is the proprietary carrier, they usually install a piece of software for that carrier. Mine was AT&T. I submitted my IMEI through the AT&T website and they gave me an unlock code. I had to then call t mobile and get a PUK code which is a protect code for the sim card I had, you don't always need the PUK, but it is a good thing to keep handy. Here is the crappy part, you will need to do a factory reset on your samsung ATIV. SO BACK UP ALL OF YOUR FILES FIRST. Power down your ATIV and hold the volume up button while powering on. you will be given an option to repair or reset the computer. It will flash all the original software to your hard drive and wipe it out so I hope you backed up all your files on a external drive. WHen you reset the computer it will reinstall a fresh copy of the proprietary carriers software. Install a new sim card and this proprietary software (in my case it was called at&tanywhere or something like that) will pop up with a prompt to unlock for the new carrier. Input the unlock code you received from the proprietary carrier. Once the computer is unlocked then you can delete the proprietary software and you are free!!!

[Q] Official Tmobile JIC6 Update loses unlock

Ok.. sooo.. Some people have gotten the JIC ota update from tmobile USA.. Well i decided to go ahead and update it. Well I lost the carrier unlock on it now.
I was just the stock rom on it rooted and unlocked using the one click unlock to get teh codes to unlock the phone. It worked then. Now with the JIC6 update i have lost that unlock. Also the one click unlock app to get the codes no longer works. I have also seen other post about using a hex editor to look at the nv_data.bin file to look for the unlock codes (no success). I have the original code from before the update, but it does not work. Is there a Way to unlock the vibrant with the JI6 update?
Just enter the same code you got last time. and it will unlock you.
If anyone else reads this. Please keep your code. and put it someplace safe. everytime you flash you will need to re-unlock most like a iphone.
Interseting that i didnt even have to reenter it. First when i updated and than checked teh network lock code showing that it was on so i than proceded to use the one click unlock app and it didnt not work. SO lucky for me i have a screenshot of the code when i first used the unlock app. so i did the same process and put in another carrier sim and entered the unlock code. It told me it was unsuccessful. Now that i went to try it again after my first post. I procceded to put in the other carrier sim card and it was unlocked.
Oh well. Thanks!

He says in the OP that he has the original code, but it doesn't work.
I know this is actually a known Samsung problem that has happened on many of their phones (even ones that came unlocked from what I've read) & generally re-entering the key works.
If it doesn't work for me, I'll call up TMO & complain. I bought the phone at retail price off contract, so they should give the code w/o a problem.
Generally as long as you've been a customer with them for at least 30-90 days (and your phone is beyond the returnable period), they'll give the unlock code if you call & ask for it. Sometimes you have to say that you'll be travelling out of country in order to get them to give it to you.
Is there a way to unlock without putting in a foreign SIM?
WTF !
Do you mean that updating the device to JI6 will lock the phone ?!
I unlocked mine with a code is that means I'll lose the unlock ?!
I discovered this a few weeks ago. I was working on a fix when I bricked my phone.
I just got my replacement on Tuesday and will be continuing the fix.
What happens is either something within the ODIN process, or on the rom itself puts a generic bml3 block on that contains all F's where the unlock code is stored.
I also know that it's stored on the nv_data.bin in the ./efs block.
I have been able to get my unlock code to be seen by the sgux program when modifying the bml3 file and pushing it back to my phone.
I will be working on nv_data next, though, seeing as my new phone has the unlock codes already, I'll have to do some editing and backing up.
I have my old codes with me so can someone confirm if old codes still works after the update ?
Thanks for sharing the information with us regarding phone. It may help us n the future.

Yeah after my original posts i think your old code will work. It will probably give an error of that it was unsuccessful. Just ignore it. and and just reboot the phone.
so basically to recap what i did.
updated JIC6 ota with tmobile.
checked network lock *#7465625# ( showing that the network lock was on.)
tried that software one click app to get code. (unsuccessful)
powered off phone
put in another carrier sim card.
bootup phone.
put in old code i had from before update to jic6 ( says that it was unsuccessful )
power off phone
put back Tmobile sim
power off phone
put other carrier sim in
unlocked!
i dont have tmobile sim ...do you think it needs that ?
I ran into this on my old vibrant running jfd. Unlocked and rooted and I needed to reflash jfd with odin. Phone relocked itself even reflashing same firmware. Efs data didn't change because the unlock code could still be retrieved. But when I inserted my att sim the code unlock said unsuccessful no matter what I tried. It never unlocked again.

So old codes didnt work for you and you are stuck.
can anyone confirm if we should update or not to remain unlocked ?
anyone confirming this ?
I got two different statements here
Ok, I updated my vibrant to JI6 today and it didn't lock my device !!
Since I don't use T-mobile data plan so I downloaded the leaked rom from (Vibrant Android development) section then I flashed the stock rom followed by JI6 ROM and it's working perfect !!
Maybe because mine is unlocked officially by T-Mobile code !
Or may be only ota is locking
We need more info
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk
Updated mine through odin.. still unlocked.
thanks...i just updated with odin and mine is unlocked
Now time to check whats new :d
They will not release a code nor will att for 9 months after the phone is out. You may call and ask.
Thats why i offer unlock services for these phones.
Successful OTA update yesterday, NO NETWORK LOCK, phone was rooted with no lag fix

SIM not recognized in S4 GT-I9515 (Not Registered on Newtork)

Hi,
I need anyone's help for my mobile as it says Not registered on Network when I tried to call although the SIM is already inserted .
- This mobile was for Africa & ME version but already opened in ASIA (Non competible regaion ) and started asking the code.
- So it was routed by SU and tried to unlocked it but failed
- Then the mobile was sent back to Saudi Arabia, where I unrouted the mobile thru SU (by complete unroot option in side the SU, installed original firmware successfully. But when I try to call, it display a message as " Not registered on Network"
- I already inserted a paper between the SIM & SIM slot - no use , tried to change the setting thru Mobile Network but not accessible as it dispays " insert SIM to access the network".... ,, On & off several times - no use, went to Flight mode and back - no use...
Need anyone's guide / suggestions to resolve this issue.
Thanks
Farhan
So, if I understand you correctly, this S4 was an African phone that was powered up in Asia? If correct, then you encountered Samsung's region locking, meaning the device requires a SIM from the appropriate region. Needless to say, you don't have one of those.
This is not a hardware issue, but firmware. Therefore, inserting pieces of paper into the SIM card tray does nothing except waste time and potentially damage the SIM card tray. Airplane mode will not shut the region lock off nor will it deactivate a SIM lock.
To solve this...
1. Purchase an unlock code and type it in to remove the SIM lock. This is also supposed to remove the region locking.
If the unlock code does not remove the region locking, follow these additional steps.
2. Root.
3. Install and run RegionLock Away to remove the region locking.
On the I9505, users could downgrade the modem to an Android 4.2.2 version, root, and then run RegionLock Away to remove both the region lock and the SIM lock, thus completely unlocking the phone. However, you have an I9515, which came with Android 4.4.2 out of the box. Since the I9515 never had an Android 4.2.2 ROM available, RegionLock Away cannot remove the SIM lock, though it can still remove the region lock, which is its intended purpose. This is why you have to purchase an unlock code.

Thank you for your advise. :good:
As you understood that it is belongs to North African & Middle East.
In the phone box there is one sticker pasted which says need to insert the SIM from North Africa or Middle East first to active the phone where the Saudi Arabia also in the list, but now when I inserted the Mobily SIM from KSA, it displays the above message.
So still whether I have to go far a Unlock code or you have additional idea ?
Regards,
Farhan
I would buy the unlock code. The unlock code not only will remove the SIM lock, but it should also remove the region lock. As a bonus, you'll increase the S4's resale value, as unlocked devices command a premium over ones that are still locked to their carriers.

I went to a sim unlocking site where it says guaranteed unlocking service if the phone is not Hard Locked. So please tell me how to know my phone is hard locked or not.
For your info. wifi is working in my phone
Also, will you recommend any unlocking service site to try.
Thanks
Farhan
A little searching will do you wonders. I generally point people to sammobile's unlocking service, but if you do a search on Google you'll find hundreds of them.

I am coming back again to this thread after I communicated with a SIM lock Service Provider who clarified many questions and finaly advised me to take the phone to a workshop who can have original SIM and I tried the same but could not find any workshop to help in this regard.
But when I was checking a forum someone asked to check the status of the IMEI CERTIFICATE status by typing *#0011# which I did so and the mobile displayed as IMEI CERTI: FAIL.
I believe here is the problem for not recognizing the SIM . Please need your guide how to solve it.
IMEI certification is a red herring. My device, when it was on Touchwiz, worked perfectly even though the IMEI Certification result was "Fail".

So it is not the case you mean ?
I already flashed the official firmware successfuly and yesterday, I clicked the 'check update' option in the setting and it updated the latest version of the firmware. all options are working except this SIM access.
So do you think any causes like baseband version or modem problem etc.
Nope. I think you have a hardware issue. Especially if you've tried everything software related, including flashing the modem again.
For the same issue, I was in the Sammobile forum where they found my phone is not showing the product code as it says the Product Code: Not Active in the 'Phone Info *SamSung* ' program (CSC page screen shot attached)
Also they told that need to do some work on the nv-data file to restore your Product Code . But when I checked my EFS folder (rooted folder), I could not find this file. I.e. nv_data.bin (see the screen shot of the EFS file folder)
They guided me to follow the steps in this link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780509
but could not continue due to the missing file.
Current situation of my mobile:
- It is rooted with Super SU.
- Took the backup of this folder to my PC but no use due to the above missing file.
- EMEI in the system (*#06#) and written under the batteries are the same. (Not changed)
- All other functions including touch screen, wifi are perfectly working except the recognizing the SIM.
Appreciate your advise
Thanks
nv_data.bin hasn't been present in the EFS folder for some time now. Its information is stored in hidden partitions on the device. Those partitions can be backed up with Wanam's EFS backup tool, but to see what is in them requires you to break open the backup images.
You would be better off getting the S4 looked at, rather than risk bricking the S4 by modifying data in those partitions.

Are you sure, Its not the case of Bad ESN? If so there's no way around.
Otherwise you can Order for Unlock code using your IMEI and purchase it through eBay or any other site.
Usually that's how i do. Easiest method to Unlock the device.
what means bad esn ? and how can i verify if it's bad ESN or not ?
i can purshase the code yes but how will i put it ? it don't let me type the code (phone is permanently locked)
thanks

If i describe an easy way about Bad ESN then it would be like, The Phone that you own has been stolen earlier or previous owner has reported it to respective carrier or company itself to Block its IMEI. In such case, Phone will be no longer Phone. Means for calling purpose.
If its a Clean ESN then things are pretty easy as it sounds. At first make sure you're not using the same Carrier SIM as your phone came with. Any other SIM, Insert it. It will basically asks you to enter code. Which will given to you once you purchase through either eBay or any Online site where they Unlocks IMEI for the device specific. Usually its a 7 Digit code, But may vary, enter exactly the same as provided by respected Seller or Anyone whom you've contacted. As you'll have only 10-Attempt to Unlock your device. Once it done, It will show like this: Your Device has been Successfully Unlocked, Now you can insert any SIM-Card, it will work.
To Check whether its been Bad ESN case or not, Just Google it: Bad ESN
thanks for these informations, i don't think the phone is stolen, it works with the owner's sim card, but it seems like the 10 attempts has been tried and can't enter unlock code anymore (hard locked) what to do in this case ?
thank you

I'm not sure, In this case there's any reset counter available or not. But surely if you want play around with your device with Owner's SIM in it. then do few things.
-Factory Reset your device, without inserting any SIM Card.
-Afterwards Purchase Unlock Code either online or contact Carrier company whichever company's SIM Card working in your device and ask them for Unlock Code.
They will basically asks few details and give you Unlock Code for free, Otherwise purchase it through online, but before make sure to insert any non-legit sim in it whether Enter PIN menu POP-Ups or not.
Do these, will possibly reset the counter for you. Or else i'm helpless buddy.:fingers-crossed:
All of this were done and the counter is still not reset, i'm hopeless, thank you anyway
i've heared there may be a solution by uploading a new qcn file with QPS, any idea ?
hard reset is the same thing as Fatory reset ? else ?
thanks

Issue when trying to unlock the network

Hi there, I have an AT&T Galaxy Note 4 with android version 5.1.1
So back in August AT&T have provided me with the unlocking code which did unlock my device. Then two months after, my charging port has been damaged so I sent it to Samsung to get it fixed which took a month for them to get it fixed. Then they sent me back the phone after they changed (cosmetic parts, LCD screen, USB cable, charging port) even though the only issue i had was the charging port. Long story short, I got the phone back from Samsung updated from 5.0.1 to 5.1.1 but the device was locked to AT&T network.
I made a request again from AT&T for the unlocking code, but the code did not work. when I put in the unlock code it says "Network Unlock Request Unsuccessful"
The IMEI number did not change so I have no idea what to do since I talked to AT&T and they told me the only unlock code for the IMEI number I provided should do the job.
Then I tried to call Samsung and they said there is nothing that they can do, my only option is to sell my phone and buy another phone that is unlocked ????? please I need some help here. I tried Factory Reset but still no luck.

samsung galaxy S4 unlocked asking for SIM network unlock pin

Hi guys
I recently purchased an S4 from an on-line professional seller, the guy apparently owns a physical store but sells some phones on-line
when the phone arrived, I turned it on without the SIM, insert my home's wi-fi connection password, and the phone started to update both apps, and the OS to lollipop
I installed the backup I previously got from my old s3 mini, installed all my apps from playstore, and once I installed whatsapp, I turned the phone off, and than on again, this with my SIM since whatsapp has to confirm my number
The phone accepted my PIN code, whatsapp accepted my number and restored it's backup, but the phone also asked for this SIM network unlock pin
I told the guy what's happening, he told me he would send me a new phone, but I suspect this can go wrong
If that's the case, can anyone here tell me how can I overcome this SIM network unlock pin issue ?
thanks in advance
Regards
Antonio
If the phone were unlocked for use on any carrier, you would never see the SIM unlock pin request screen. Since you are seeing that screen, the phone is not unlocked.
To resolve this, root your phone and downgrade the phone's modem to an Android 4.2.2 version. Find a copy of RegionLock Away on XDA or through Google, copy it to your S4 and install it. Run it. Afterward, upgrade the modem to a more current version, and enjoy.
That's roughly what I had to do when the SIM unlock screen popped up on me.
Which s4 do you have? If it is the i337, region lock away may not work as you may not be able to downgrade the modem.
