Sadly, the ability of my s5 (Kitkat 4.4.2 SM-6900T NK2) to respond to "OK Google" from any screen is very, very unreliable these days. If I go back to an earlier version of Google Search, sometimes it will work again. If I update to the latest version, sometimes that will work for a day, then it breaks again. Sometimes if I just retrain it to recognize me saying OK Google, it will work for a while.
While it's broken, I can even try OK Google from the screen the widget is on, and nothing happens.
This is really annoying. I've made sure that all the required options are selected, such as audio history on, from google search app, from any screen, and from lock screen.
Is anyone else having this same problem?
Tried clearing data & cache for the actual app itself?

Voice trained it the first time, and it seemed to be working. Waited a few minutes and kept repeating OK Google from off screen and nothing, went in retrained it nothing...deleted voice pattern, tried it again. Anyone else finding its very flakey?
As bas as ok google is s-voice works everytime
So ok google doesnt seem to wake the phone up, at least on mine not working. So i tried hi galaxy, works like a charm all the time so much for ok google.
Mine wakes up when screen is off for about an hour after trained, then it just decides not to.
Works perfectly for me, screen off, screen on, locked screen... perhaps you should not have set up S-voice too? I have not touched S-voice as there is no need for both apps.

I didnt set up s voice, i only resorted to it after ok google from sleep wasnt working. I had experience like other op where it worked then waited a few minutes and dint work. One app has nothing to do with other app, theyvare completely independant. Anyway to each their own enjoy ok google, lol
go to settings > Language and input
click on the gear button next to Google voice typing
click on OK Google detection
select the options to have OK google on on lock screen and when screen is turned off
Yeah I was playing with it last night and it seemed to have ignored me after awhile when the phone was off.
So maybe the phone is actually going into sleep mode fully.
The "ok google " hot word was working when I got my phone several days ago, even with the screen off. Now suddenly today, It just stopped working. Now, in the "ok google" detection field under google now settings, the top section is still checked, "from google search app", but "always on" and "when locked" boxes are now both greyed out. The "retrain" and "delete voice model" boxes are also greyed out. They were not when I originally got the phone. This apparently happened today, and I havent messed with any of the settings. Plus I see no sign of an update to google now that might have casued a change like this within the app.
The most interesting thing though, as I mentioned in the title is that the "always on" box is now saying that this feature is currently unavailable for this language....which is english / US....wtf
This will happen if you disable S Voice.
Ohhhh, well **** why does this feature need svoice to work? This some stupid touchwiz thing? I didnt even have svoice on my s4, (titanium backup ftw) and it worked fine. Except for the screen off option, which wasnt available in 4.3
Thanks, I had this issue, at first ok google was working on any screen which was pretty cool, then yesterday I noticed it wasn't working any longer, I forgot S-Voice needs to be working, I disabled it a few days back, better switch it back on
Hello, today my LG G2 D800 began to act strangely.
When Data or Wifi is turned on, it crashes and gets stuck in a boot loop indefinitely.
When data or wifi is turned off, everything works fine.
I do not know what would cause this problem. I booted to safe mode to see if it's an installed application, but it still crashes when data is turned on.
I did not drop the phone or have any other physical damage.
I am running 4.4.2.
Any help is appreciated. I googled about this problem, and nothing similar comes up.
I suddenly encountered this issue today after recording a voice memo.
Straight after accepting it, my phone started into a reboot loop. I spent a couple of hours trying to figure it out, even tried to get into the recovery mode without success.
It wasn't until I started turning things off, wifi data sync etc that the phone started operating again.
One by one i turned them back on again and it turns out that it was the auto sync causing the reboot.
Currently it's off and I'm writing this on it, but I would like to turn it back on again.
Any ideas?
I have same issue. Just started today. As soon as phone starts to auto synch it reboots. Switching off wifi or data links stopped this until I could disable auto synch in settings. I think its something to do with the new Google update. This really sucks!!!
Same happens to me also i am running a 442g on lg g2 d802 since yesterday evening bam autosync got screwed
Wow, I disabled autosync, and then turned on data and it's fine.
Thanks for recognizing this. Who would have thought that it could be that?
Now that we have recognized the problem, how do we resolve it?
Clearing all data of the Google App resolves the boot loop issue.

It looks like clearing all data of the Google App seems to resolve the boot loop issue.
However, what looks like a sync icon is constantly on, the battery seems to run out faster and the phone is warmer.
In the Settings go to Apps
Find and select Google App in one of the columns
Select Manage space then Clear all data
Enable sync, connect to the internet and check if this resolves the issue
Delete and return google account to resolve on-going sync issue
As described by user webfrank in a post titled "g2 d802 reboots when sync enabled" at Android Central (as a new user I cannot post links) in order to resolve the on-going sync issue perform the following steps:
Delete Google account
Clear data from the Google App, Google Play services, and Google services Framework
Reboot device
Reconfigure the Google account
Hmm, is there no other way to resolve this problem?
Why do I need to delete my google account and readd my google account?
What do I do if I have multiple google accounts added? Do I need to remove them all?

I found that clearing data from various Google apps was not enough to resolve the continuous sync issue, while disconnecting the phone from the Google account is not such a big nuisance.
Hi together,
just was able to update to upgrade to Nougat. (O2 Germany)
I just have one big problem. I have to control the screen like Talkback is activated. But it isn't. (two finger scroll, tap and so on)
Does anybody have an idea how I get rid of that really annoying thing? If possible without factory reset. My Phone isnt rooted.
My Google and forum search hasn't helped me. The answers were always turn off Talkback, which it is already.

I had the same problem yesterday after the update, took some time to change back to normal behavior: restarted in safe mode, changed the resolution back to WQHD, changed some accessibility settings, like turning it on for Nova Launcher and turn off optical reader (I don't know why it was turned on...). After that I restarted to normal and seemed to work ok but then I turned on the accessibility feature optical reader again, too see what it does and the screen was only with 2 finger operable again, so I turned it off.
You can disable/remove Talkback in the application settings. Try in safe mode if it's not possible in normal mode. I tried to change the Talkback settings in the system settings (searched for Talkback) and it said in a pop-up that it isn't compatible with the system, so I removed it completely.
Thank you so much norti!!!!!!!!! Had the same issue with S7 (T-Mobile USA), and your advice helped!!! Actually, it was the only one I could find so far
Thank you Norti
Thank you so much. I had the same problem after performing the software update over night last night. I was so frustrated with it and the techs at the sprint store spent an hour with my phone and could not fix it. The techs recommended that I back up all my contacts and everything and then do a factory reset. I did not want to do a factory reset and searched the internet for a long time before coming across your post. I turned off optical reader and it fixed the two finger problem. Thank you so much for sharing this as I would have been lost without it.
Exactly the same happened with my S7 edge, almost drove me crazy before I figured out that it was Optical reader in accessibility that caused the problem.
That worked
Thank you for the correct fix post. Optical Reader off did it for me, too. Spent all morning wading through "Cool features of Nougat" and getting ready to break my S7 while calls were coming in...

I figured that it had to be the optical reader as that was one of the incompatible apps it reinstalled after the upgrade. Had to use two fingers to get through most menu-options, frustrating, to manage to disable it. Glad to see I wasn't the only ripping my Hair out experiencing this issue. Hope they fix it.
For future reference (in German):
This works:
Einstellungen > Eingabehilfe > "Text & Bildscanner": turn off ("Aus")
Hello, can't seem to manage to activate voice match, everytime I try and activate, I record my voice, but the slider stays greyed out. Clicking it just restarts the recording process all over again. Mi 9t bought in France, french language and global miui 10.3.7 here. Tried no screen lock, clearing Google app cache, rebooting, to no avail... Anyone could point me in the right direction to solve the issue?
Same problem for me.
Uninstalled the updates on Google app and working for now, weird. Doesn't work from screen off though, but that might be a feature the phone can't handle?

I think the k20 series has the qualcomm wcd9340 audio chip..which looking at their website it says it has support for always listening wake up voice commands from when the phone is off..I wonder if roms could make this function work unlike xiaomi..

That also did the trick for me. Had similar problems on Asus Zenpad tab, so I doubt it it's a feature the phone can't handle... Or maybe can't handle yet.
Edit: Well, just updated the Google app and now everything is working - Voice Match turns on, stays on and working. Pretty sure this was a Google fix.
Thanks, that work for me too.

But does the assistant gets triggered when the screen is off?
And can you change the hotword to "hey Google" instead of crappy "okay Google"?
To me it works on lock screen but not on Always on screen. When phone is locked try press once power button and talk. To me works if always on not activated or when I press power button without unlocking
Worked for me but not anymore after update
It never worked for me until around maybe 1- 2 weeks ago. (I randomly checked it one Day and the option wasnt blocked anymore, it worked perfectly) but after the 11.0.2 system update it doesn't work anymore...
The option voice match is blocked again.
I can tell from the last replies on this post users were able to use it. Is it still the same case after the update ??
Sorry for **** english (not my first language)
I have the same problem, although I own redmi K20 pro Chinese version...
I had the same problem, the Voice match would start loading and never stopped. After trying all the available solutions found on the internet, I tried the most simple one. I simply changed the system and Assistant language to English (US), and it magically worked. The default language before that was English (UK).
So, maybe just try to switch it to US and then reboot the smartphone.
I have the Mi 9T Pro, EU version (MIUI 11.0.3.)
