No, you must downgrade to NCG 4.4.2 and root with towelroot. Then you can upgrade back to the firmware of your choice.

Thanks for replying. I read somewhere it's hard to revert back to earlier versions because of the bootloader? (not sure if true)

Not for Verizon. Just flash a tar file via Odin.

Tried towelroot on my T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900T, running 5.0, but got the message "This phone isn't currently supported"
it can work
I rooted my Sm-900t using towelroot but you have to downgrade your kernel or bootloder I believe from NK2 (or whichever one fixed the vulnerability that made towelroot work) to NH5 or to a version earlier than august or july 2014 update using ODIN. There was a zip file with all of the components you need to downgrade, root, then upgrade back to the latest build. Search sm-g900t towelroot workaroud or something. This is for kitkat I dont know if jt would work on lollipop. Actually now that I think of it cf-autoroot-klte through Odin rooted my t mobile s 5 no problem. It did trip knox tho while the towelroot method above did not. I will look on my desktop to see if I still have the zip file and get back to you. if not I'm sure it's still on this website somewhere. good luck.

How to unroot Note 3?

Hi,
I rooted Note 3 with towelroot recently and my knox is still 0 and would like to keep it that way. Would also like to keep all my settings and apps if possible too. I haven't flashed any roms or anything like that. Only thing I've done is grant some of my apps root access and downloaded an app that required root (which since then I've uninstalled). Now however I see a new firmware update is available for my Note 3 and would like to update to it. I'm sorta new to the Android scene, so don't know where to start to do this, so would appreciate any guidance.
Is there also anything I should do while on root before I unroot?
Thanks
@XLAAX you dont need to unroot to upgrade firmware. Use odin method to upgrade it.
You will find it on sammobile

So what will happen when I unroot using this? Will the phone be unrooted again or will it keep root? Also will knox be tripped using this method?

Hmm, I was under the impression that you need to unroot your phone to upgrade the firmware. If this isnt the case, then no real need to unroot I suppose.
What about Android L? Will I need to unroot for that? (Realise you can't predict such a thing, but has there ever been a case where you needed to unroot for an android firmware?)
EDIT: Oh and for future knowledge, how should I handle OTA updates? Should I not update that way if I'm rooted?

I dont know about towel root I used cf auto root and I upgraded to 4.4.2 after rooting.
But I am sure there is no need to unroot in any case.
Android L ia not yet been out for note 3.

Which model do you have? If Towel root doesn`t work there is only CF Auto Root atm, look here for the correct file http://autoroot.chainfire.eu/. This does trip KNOX though.

I tried to root SM-G900F international version using "1337 0 1 7380 4 0" - just hanged and didn't work though. Not comfy rooting tripping the knox so will probably leave it!
I just got the 900V (Verizon) update which caused me to lose root. I tried towelroot v3 (with the "new samsung" settings) and still says phone not supported. Anybody with a verizon phone and the new update gotten their phone to root again? If so, can you post the settings you ended up entering after clickk=ing 3 times on the welcome to towelroot v3 text?

I have the same issue, but how would one go about finding the launch kernel for the S5?
EDIT: spent some more time digging around on the web and I found that sammobile has all the S5 firmware you need to reflash back to stock April version.

Try going to the general Verizon thread for the S5. There are a number of posts regarding rooting your S5 (or re-rooting): http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general

Not if you untick auto reboot in Odin, so after the flash pull the battery and you wait 15 seconds and boot into recovery and data factory reset and reboot. Did it myself mate from NG2 to NE2
Can somebody tell me, does stay official version firmware on Phone info window and on stock CWM window (knox counter 0x0) after root with towelroot ?
Thanks forwarding on answer.

This is because your phone isn't supported by TowelRoot yet as it is a new device. But don't worry, you can definitely try the CF Auto Root.
The CF Auto Root Link is here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2696537
samsung and towelroot
Hey, I'm a relatively new android user, and I'm dying to root my Samsung S5 SM G900F, but it's proving to be harder than I expected.
I tried the towelroot application but it says that my phone is not supported, even though others have seemed to do this easily. Any suggestions? I use a Mac Computer as well, which doesn't make it any easier....

[Q] root verizon Samsung Galaxy note3 sm900v 4.4.4 question

Maybe this VIDEO helps you. It's for one sm-n900a.
Perhaps it would if i could find the corresponding files for the n900v. Any ideas where i can find them?
i found everything but this file:N900VVRUCNC4_N900VVZWCNC4_VZW.zip
Update
After some extensive searching i found the files and hope to attempt to downgrade according to video posted ^ with my SM-N900V. I found a great site for FW versions for anyone encountering this problem in the future: galaxynote3update
update
This method does not work on Verizon. I found the Verizon equivalent files and attempted this but got a SW REV CHECK fail when trying to download 4.4.2 FW. ATT must not have a version check in theirs. I have exhausted every method out there. Hoping someone comes up with a one click root for this configuration soon cuz not having root sucks
Did you ever succeed?
I just received a new Note 3 from my warranty company. I was hoping it would have 4.4.2 on it
but it has the same version as yours. I really could use root.
Any luck with your phone?

Upon further research I found out that if your phone is n900vvrudnk1 it is not compatible to root. It seems that sammy has us under lock-down for now. If we upgrade to the lollipop 5.0 will this upgrade boot loaders also?

Can you root galaxy s5 for att smg 900a on lollipop version 5.0??

Please guys tell me there's a way to root the galaxy s5 for att smg 900a on lollipop version 5.0. If there's not should I upgrade to the latest firmware?
Thankd
You can't root g900a on Lollipop as of right now. AT&T locked the bootloader when they released 5.0 BUT.. you can downgrade your phone to KitKat. Then root it using Towelroot root and then flash a prerooted lollipop rom using flashfire Here is a link with a bunch of people that downgraded there g900a to KitKat and how they did it and worked around everything: http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s5/489071-tutorial-downgrade-samsung-galaxy-s5-5-0-4-4-kitkat-6.html This will help you out in starting the root process on your phone. You can also Google "Downgrade g900a KitKat".

This is not true. If you are running completely stock lollipop either becuase you purchased the phone with it on it, or you took the ota it is not possible to downgrade to KitKat, you will brick your phone. If you were rooted on KitKat, you can update to a prwrooted lollipop, which I am running now for example, and using that method allows you to downgrade as well with no issues so long as you don't take the ota. This only applies to the g900a.

Also not true.. You can downgrade your phone from 5.0 to KitKat DEPENDING on the version of bootloader. That will make or break the whole possibility of downgrading. Check the link I posted and read through the forum. It has been done by multiple people but the general consensus is if your phone's bootloader is past a certain version you're screwed for now and if you can't downgrade and root but you want to in the future I would suggest not updating for a while until there is a method of rooting your current version bootloader.

I did check the link you posted and only found people that tried it on a g900a unable to downgrade. There was no time that you could go from stock L to KK on the g900a.

To be quite honest dwade. You can save yourself a lot of headaches and stress by putting your phone on craigslist and getting yourself the g900f unlocked that way you can avoid all of these processes and the risk of bricking your phone lol If you're looking to root and get into modding your phone, AT&T & Verizon phones are the worst when it comes to locking things down.

It's certainly the case for the F variant that towelroot only works on 4.4.2 that was compiled before the end of June 2014......If there is a build that matches these conditions for the A variant, towelrooting may be possible.....If not, I guess you'll have to try CF Root or similar...
Edit.....check this thread......
