i think i have rooted my phone (Quick rooter for stock FroYo systems + 2.6.34 kernel) but now all i need is to install apps to the sd card! is that possible yet?
so since no1 could reply to my "is apps 2 sd availible on froyo root" question, i had to use 3 sites to put together and come up with "yes". now using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=686588 with the quick root posted above,
does that mean i have ROOTed Froyo with Apps2SD now?
It's working fine* for me, I have Live Earth wallpaper installed on the SD card.
*As it was intended, you can't mess with things till the devs have updated apps to support it.
I bought a Xoom 3 days ago and rooted. Installed CWM. This is my second Android device. My question is this. I was looking for the sdcard2 folder, as I had though i had seen it once before. After installing CWM I don't see it. I used the 1 click root + kernel method. Am i missing it, or do I need to take a few more steps?
Look for a folder labeled external that should be your micro sd. It was changed in the newest kernal update.

Sd card update hasn't came out yet?
I have no such folder in my root file system. CWM also says there is no SD card.
OK, so I looked at my kernel version and it shows an old version without SD Support. *face palm* I'll update my kernel and try again.
the one click root is only 1.3.0. make sure you flash 1.4.0 before you flash 1.4.1 in CWM.
good luck!
**I'm sorry if this has been covered already. I did a quick search and didn't find anything in the other "3.1 update" posts.
Got my HoneyComb 3.1 OTA update yesterday evening. The only detail that I was looking forward to (or even knew about in the update) was the new usage of the MicroSD card slot.
I hurried to grab a MicroSD card to check out the new memory-expansion capabilities. To my surprise, it did NOT work.
In doing some minor searching, it appears that the 3.1 update did NOT come with the support for the SD cards.
WHY?
No, it did not come with the update. Stock Xooms do not yet have working SD card slots.
Micro SD support is not included in the 3.1 update. You will have to root with one of the methods in the Development section.

Cam,
If I root, are there ROMS that have SD support? Or will simply rooting the Xoom enable the SD slot?
No ROMs yet for Xoom. But there are custom kernels that enable external SD card support. If you are on a stock wifi only Xoom go here >

If you are actually stock under HC3.1 take a look there

for root your Xoom wifi-only and when it will be done install the last Tiamat kernel from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978013
so you will have acces to your micro sd card and if you want you can overclock your Xoom. This is what i just did with mine and it's working fine.
Has anyone attempted to put an SD card in the slot without any kernel modifications and actually have it damage the sd card? I tried mine today just for the heck of it and now my SD card is dead. My EVO cant access it and my PC cant even reformat it.
Maybe you damaged a contact or something. Because that seems odd. I kept my SD card in there before I rooted and it didn't destroy it.

I agree. No issue here when I inserted SD card prior to root.

it turns out it severely corrupted one of my video files. After several tries I was able to get windows to reformat it and now it seems fine again. Still really weird tho...
Hey folks,
Big issue here, after installing Liquid ROM 3.0 on my DX running the GB OTA, my SD card is set as Read Only, and I don't see a way to change it.
I can't change permissions from Root Explorer, and now I can't even download things to the card.
Anyone know what to do?
Thanks.
**Edit** Fixed - went to Settings>Storage> Unmounted then remounted card.
I have seen instructions on how to apply CM9/ICS to eMMC and to also set up a dual boot sd card that contains it.
I would prefer at this point to set up an sd card with the most recent and/or stable nightly CM9/ICS only to see what it is all about and what the state of development is.
Could someone provide me with that info, please?
FYI: I am running my original NC having updated my v 1.3 with 5.12.20 instead of going the 1.4.1 route. It pretty much works in terms of my usage and I got the added benefit of having HBO Go work! Still not willing to give up my ability to "read in store".
Thanks in advance for any/all help with this
All the info is here. You just have to read, read some more, and then just read some more.
It all gets so much easier if you do this. Plus you'll find the threads you want to keep an eye on for new info.

Use the size-agnostic procedure that discusses putting CM7 on an SD card.. just rename the zip file to be compatible for flash. It is in the Dev section

Having done numerous iterations of various CM and others both internally and on sd cards, I was able to do all of that because I do read this website rather thoroughly!
However, doing this specific task (as a standalone) just did not appear to come up.
I had assumed I could do it the same way I had done CM7 but was not certain due to apps and other issues at this stage.

Thanks...any suggestions for which version to try?
Just get the latest nightly on the samiam303 post. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1444943At this point there is nothing that is "stable". Make sure you use the large ics image or you'll need to expand boot. Finally I found I had to load the update and gaaps at the same time without a recovery boot in between to get the google calendar to sync. Runs real nice.
If I may suggest, try Racks triple boot of CM7 and CM9 from SD card -- see his thread
elsewhere on XDA -- I've been running it for several weeks, including latest update fro OC, and everything works fine. ICS is of course still "in process" but you might be surprised at how well it runs. And the CM7 is stable as a rock and swift, especially with the supercharger script installed. And you will still have your original B&N stock in emcc.
Thanks...I saw that and since I had already used CM7 off and on both internally and via an sdcard just didn't want to get into another dual boot scenario.
This time around, I just wanted a simple ICS steup on a dedicated sdcard that I would install when wanting to try it out and replace with my storage sdcard when operating normally with my rooted (5.12.20) 1.3.
