I have a ext4 micro sd card with 128 GB but my note III device does not seem to recognize it.
It says: Checking sd card but nothing happens.
I used sdformatter and partition wizard for a clean ext4 formatting!
I use now temasek cm12.1 which actually should have ext4 support!
Just to check that the card isn't broken, format it to ExFAT and see if it is recognised.

I have installed CM10.1 on my Canadian Galaxy S4 and for some reason it will not recognize my micro SD card.
The card is formatted to Fat32, and stock TouchWiz reads it no problem. When I insert the card while I am running CM10.1, I get a message in the notification bar which says "Empty SD card inserted."
What is wrong?? Can anyone help??

Are you sure it's Fat32? What size card?
Most SDXC 64gb cards come formatted as exFAT these days (aka Fat64..). CM10.1 will not read exFAT. It will read Fat32 and EXT4. Stock rom will read Fat32 and exFAT.
Thank You

Thank you so much! This was exactly my problem and everything is working perfectly now.
I had the same problem. Does the device also read Gameloft data on the external sd as well? It's the only thing I have yet to figure out...
I have a Note 3, and i am unable to record calls when i am setting up the MicroSD as location which is formatted in exFat format.
I initially formatted in exFat cos to root the phone using the files that required the MicroSD card to be formatted in exFat, after that i did not care to reformat to Fat32.
Now the problem is when i try to use any call recording app and i setup the location for the internal phone storage, the recording works fine.
With the MicroSD card, it creates a file but with 0 kb size and says check line.. etc.
Is the MicroSD card supposed to be formatted in Fat32? its a 64Gb SanDisk Ultra Class 10
Ok i guess this is not so hard question after 77 views no replies.? Let me rephrase.. what format do you use to erase ur microsd card? Fat32 or exFat on the Note 3?
I use exFat. Support for 4GB+ files and is able to read/write on Windows and MacOS.
Exfat.....I believe the phone formats it in Exfat as well

Thanks. It looks like certain apps don't like this format. When I changed the format to fat32 the voice recorder media files would do just fine. But with exfat it just doesn't play.

well guys I recently bought Samsung galaxy s4 19500 and for that I bought Kingston 32gb class 10 micro sd card. it worked flawlessly
but today when I unmounted the sd card from my galaxy s4 and put it in a card reader and connected it to my pc, windows detected it but asked for to format it.I clicked format microsd 32 gb , it wont format by quick format option for NTFS, FAT32 and EXFAT formats saying windows is unable to format sd card.then I unticked the quick format option and SLOW FORMATED in FAT32 .it continued to format it till around 99% then it said cant be formatted. Now when I mounted it back in my S4 , it says blank sd card and is not detected.
ANY solution to this issue?
regards

Just mount it in Linux. Delete all partitions using "gparted" and unmount the card and remove it from the reader. Mount it and Create the partition you want like fat32 or ext4. I won't recommend NTFS due to the fact that it very restrictive filesystem. Your card is perfect and you just need to create and mount right partitions.

thnx bro , issue was with the card reader
I am using it in FAT32 format now
Hi,
I've recently formated my SD card from NTFS to EXT4 format, since, neither my pc or phone can detect it or re-format it.
My Note 3 is running CM11, and i've heard it should support EX4 format but it doesn't, i'm actually trying different ROM's to try to detect my SD card but since i've started, none has worked.
do you guys have any clue to help me?
Check whether shows up in Device Manager in Windows. Never looks like a problem with ROM

It shouldn't be a Rom problem nor Kernel.
Something must be wrong with your sdCard.
Because my Note 3 N9005 detects exFat, Ntfs, Ufs, ext4 and few other format (*After Rooting*) hard drive without any issues.
I am on Stock kernel and Stock recovery.

Note 3 support Ext4 format for internal partitions only, not for the external sdcard.
Remove your card from the phone and insert it directly to the PC (via Card Reader/Adapter) to reformat it.
The problem is that the SD Card have always worked for now more than a year, using the ExFat FileSystem.
i can't reformat it because windows don't detect it since it's ext4 FileSystem and my linux or Gparted live don't detect it as well. i'm using an external card reader (cheap i recognize it) but it has always worked as well and still work with another SD card or PSP card.
have to say i feel pretty ****ed up since i had my SD card full and my internal memory too all the time :crying:
-------------------------------------
i'm actually using S5 base / Note 4 style Tweaked ROM DEODEXED and it has detected my SD card, the problem is that it is detected as a 0,00 octet card and it can't be formatted, tried the command format with terminal but it isn't available on android.
Hi just a little up so we can remember me after holydays :fingers-crossed:
Did you try changing the filesystem in TWRP recovery?
I have recently switched from the stock ROM (4.4.2) for my Samsung Galaxy S3 Neo+ to Cyanogen 11 (4.4.4 - I wiped data, system and cache partitions before doing this). I have a 64GB external sd card formatted to FAT32 which was working fine when using my stock ROM but Cyanogenmod will not mount it anywhere. It detects the presence of the removable sd card as I am offered to erase it in the storage section in the settings. However, there are no files under /external_sd or /storage/sdcard1.
Is there any way I can fix this and mount my external sd card?
I solved this by converting my external SD card from FAT32 to NTFS using MiniTool Partition Wizard.
