Hello
I have a Rogers Samsung S4 that I installed the stock Android onto it (4.3). Rom name: Google Edition S4 By JanJan xda AFG).
Everything works great except when I turn on WiFi tethering I can connect to the phone with my laptop or another device and get an IP from the phone but I cannot surf anywhere. I can surf on the phone no problem. I am connected to LTE. I also tested the SIM on another device and I can WiFi tether with no problem - so I know the SIM set up is fine.
What am I missing on this set up?
Thanks

Try ES File Explorer from the play Store.
Open ES File Manager, Got To Net Manager and try to create a hotspot from there and connect and Browse. It should work fine.
Hello
I installed the 4.3 v2.2 rom on my Galaxy S4 - its the Google Edition S4 by JanJan. I turned on wifi tethering and then tried to connect to my phone using my laptop or tablet and I am able to get an IP address but I cannot surf anywhere.
I am able to surf using the browser on the S4 phone.
I am connnected to LTE on the Rogers network.
The SIM works in my S2 and I can enable WiFi tethering and use it perfectly fine - so it's not a carrier provisioning issue.
I have installed FoxFi on the S4 and still have the same issue - able to get an IP but no surfing.
Am I missing something?
Thanks

I'm on Rogers too. I have noticed that with all non touchwiz roms. If you disable lte and use 4g or lower you will be able to get online. With my s3 there was a script you could add to connect to lte but I was unable to find one that works with the s4/4.2.2
Sent from my Nexus 10
Solution
So as it turns out there were 2 APN settings on the phone ltedata and ltemobile. ltemobile was the active one and I could surf on my phone. I deleted the other one and I can now surf from my connected devices using wifi tethering.
Greetings people.
I am a new user of Nexus 4 which I bought 3 days ago. Yesterday I encountered a strange problem with my Nexus which I did not have with my previous phone (Xperia Sole). A friend of mine asked me to make my Nexus a hotspot so he could connect to the internet. So what I did was to open my 3G and then use WiFi hotspot. Firstly my friend could connect to my Nexus WiFi but he couldn't access the internet although I could. Then I tried to close and re-open my 3G (without disabling hotspot) and he managed to connect to internet that way. But I couldn't from my Nexus. I never had a same issue with the Xperia. I could connect normally to the internet while using my phone as a hotspot. I was wondering if this is a normal case or should I try something else.
Using Stock Rom 4.4 KitKat and Stock Kernel.
Thanks in advance.
I'm having some serious issues connecting to Google Play Store over Wifi, while it does works absolutely fine when browsed over data network. I've Factory reset my phone but that also didn't helped either.
I didn't have any problems with my internet router as I can browse without any problems using my phone.
ps: I'm using Galaxy S5 G900F international without root.
Hi All,
Since I upgraded to 6.0.1 (stock) my VPN connection no longer works. Not using any app just the built in Android VPN to hide.me.
Used to work on 4.4.4 and 5.1.1.
Exactly the same settings on the same network on my Note 3 (4.4.2) work just fine.
Always the same 'unsuccessful' message on the Note 4 (SM-N910C) though.
PS I have done a factory reset, cleared the cache etc etc just in case but no joy.
Anyone come across this. Any solution or workaround?
Cheers,
MM
I think there was a problem with VPNs in Android 6.0 marshmallow. Don't know if it's been fixed though.
VPN is working fine on my phone with 6.0.1 MM. I use Betternet VPN.
I experienced a problem before with VPN when I installed the xposed module Force Immersive Mode. But after disabling this xposed module, my VPN worked fine again.
Well, I am totally unable to get a VPN running using the built in VPN client using L2TP/IPSEK PSK.
For the benefit of others who may have the same issue. I download OpenVPN for Android from the market and used a ovn (config) file from my VPN provider (hide.me) and it all just worked first time.
If you don't have an ovn file you can configure manually.
I am very surprised at Sammy letting it ship with broken VPN functionality. A lot of us need this to access work networks etc etc.
Mrmyagi did you ever find a fix for the built in VPN access? I use a tab4 for work and cannot get into my VPN anymore on marshmallow. Our IT department can't even figure out a workaround
I use tunnelbear on 6.0.1, and it works fine.

I would use a third party app only company doesn't allow installation of any apps off store. Might be able to install it with just apk though
FWIW I use the stock VPN facility to connect to the VPN facility of my Draytek router, and it works fine, so the stock facility isn't completely broken.

I use OpenVPN for Android (available on Play Store). Works for me and actually better (IMHO) than the built-in client.
