[Q] Note 4 updates not working? - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I have purchased the Note 4 in the US (unlocked) and I am using it in Europe in the Czech Republic. There was not a single update since I purchased the phone (November 2014) while I have read several times Note 4 received some kind of an update. Also, the phone received Android 5 in all of the US and the Czech Republic already (at least I have read that now on Sammobile) so I am wondering - did I block the device´s ability to receive any updates by using it in a different country? Does anyone have similar experience with this or other high end phone?
I did exactly the same thing with the Galaxy S4 two years ago and it received several updates right after purchase and also during the following two years. Now Note 4 which is also a high end device (though more niché) and not a single update yet. As of 18th May 2015, the device says the latest updates were installed and the device status is "official".
I prefer using my device the official way so I didn´t really care about flashing but if I have to use a firmware that was never updated since the phone release, I will flash it (as a last resort).
PS.: Sorry about posting this if it does not belong here. Google is not that powerful yet to redirect me correctly and I didn´t quickly find any info about what to post on this forum. It is likely my post belongs somewhere else but it would take hours of research to find out where, so sorry and thank you so much for your time.

Camera Firmware Update

Hi All,
Last night I got a popup on my S II saying there was a firmware update for the camera in the Samsung Apps store.
I installed it. Took a couple of minutes. Seems much quicker now for focus and taking photo's.
I am running KE2.
Anyone else get this?
B
Yep, this was mentioned by some posters a while ago. Only specific camera versions receive this upgrade, so most users probably haven't gotten any camera update (myself included).
updates are region, version, and carrier dependant. And thats alot of dependancies. So my advice is, patience can make your phone the dream phone you want it to be
As I wrote earlier, people with unlocked, non-branded Smartphones (like me) won't all get the update because it is only targeted at phones that come with a certain version of the camera firmware preinstalled - it is not suitable for every Galaxy S II and shouldn't be, people not getting the update are not "missing out".

[Q] US device in the UK? Can't get OTA update?

I'm a bit stuck here, hoping someone can help. I should point out I've also searched the forums, but am struggling to get anywhere because the main search terms (US and UK) are too short. I saw someone else ask something similar earlier as part of another thread, bt now I can't retrace my steps to check if he got an answer.
Anyway, he goes - maybe someone can help. I'm in London, and bought my Transformer here, but it appears to be a US one - the build number is HMJ37.US_epad-8.4.11-20110711. Firstly, am I right in thinking I've somehow ended up with a US one?
the main crux is that I've been waiting for the update to 3.2, but it hasn't come through yet. It didn't come through when the US version got released, and it hasn't come through yet now that the UK version has been released and, if I DO have a US model, that's not going to make a difference anyway.
I've tried download the couple of stock .zip files people have put on here, but I always get the error message at bootup, so they haven't worked. I'm on 3.1 atm, but frankly I can't remember how I got the upgrade from 3.0 - 3.1, so I'm no use there I've also tried going into settings and checking for an update, but that hasn't helped.
Any thoughts?
Hey,
im in the UK as well, and got the tablet 2 days ago with 3.0. I got home, connected to wifi and it straight away noted me about the 3.1, and updated it. No other update came through, so I think it's just not yet out in the UK.
I would just wait a bit in your case!
I don't really have much choice but to wait, I suppose
Cheers for the response. See you're in belfast - I'm from there originally.
I believe Asus staggers firmware releases out - at least my last update was a few days after many of the other UK people had received theirs. This one however I got on the day.

Note 10.1 questions

Heyo!
Before buying the Note 10.1 i have a few questions.
Here we go:
1. Can I somehow flash an samsung original firmware which is able to receive OTA updates from Samsung? I only need root and the original samsung firmware, since the software features are my main reason for buying (i will study physic, and this will help!)
2. Whats the difference between gt 8010 and 8013?
3. do you think we will get an 4.2 Update? I think 4.1.1 is released, isn´t it?
thanks in advance!
There many post which will answer your question.
The difference between all version is country specific changes like some are with 3G and voice calling, only 3G, Wif. Then there are some country specific version and 8013 is USA specific version apart from that nothing really.
Only Germany has recieved the JB update around three weeks back others are waiting. As for 4.2 we should eventually get it but I think now Samsung is busy rolling out 4.1.1 for all its devices.
Ok since i live in Germany that should be no problem
Only one question.. as far as i can see only the 3G version got the JB update....
Will the Wifi version get it as well?
Eventually all version will get JB updates and since new Note devices are being launched with JB i think it will happen pretty soon.
Also one strange thing is the Germany update is to carrier based device and not the stock Samsung device there does not look any difference between the two but its a strange thing.
Also there are some issues being reported if you use the rom on the wifi version which is logical since its not made for it
Then i think i will buy that Tab
Enormous power inside, JB update soon, cheap at the moment (in germany..) and has best functionality as student.... nothing more to wish!

Best clean Odin version - newbie question

Hi this is my first post here so please be gentle. i did search for this answer but truthfully i'm only new to Android as I've been a Iphone user for years and years. I don't even know the correct 'Android' terminology to search for information but i'm picking it up quickly i think.
Recently I purchased my first Samsung Galaxy S4 and it died an hour later so once i had that replaced I spoke to my telecommunications provider (Telstra Australia) and the guy on the phone was really helpful and he told me to nuke my new phone and get a version of Odin (the open UK version I think) and i wrote down everything he said but unfortunately either my daughter or my girlfriend found a better use for that piece of paper and now I don't know which version he referred to.
Essentially he explained that Telstra has layered it's own software over the top of the Samsung and Android software and that it made it a slower device and also received slower updates (months later) so i thought what he said made good sense.
Can anybody please tell me which version this guy would have been referring to, or at least a good version to run with instead of what I have already?
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Hey mate, the version of Odin shouldn't matter TOO much. Just get the latest 3.09.
It's only about 9 megs I think.
However, to use it (and avoid voiding your warranty) you will also need an official Samsung rom. Best place to go for that is http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ though their downloads are often slow.
Make sure you get a Samsung version, and not a play version or black version. The Russian version: XXUFNC9 should be fine for your needs.
Flash it as AP and make sure repartition is NOT checked.
You may also need to first install Kies from Samsung (and ensure it's not running in the background when launching Odin) to get the drivers (so that Odin recognises your device).
Post back here if you're stuck at any stage.
I imagine this thread also should be in the Q&A forum. Maybe a mod should move it?
EDIT: Just saw the post above me: Good advice, I assumed you were on a Telstra I9505T or I9505 (as that's the Telstra S4 4G that I have - but best to check your model first).
Great advice from the guy on the phone....
Don't even think about flashing software on your phone if you don't know the basics yet.
Read the forums, learn the basics, read what to do when the flashing fails.
Odin is the program to flash the official roms on your phone. Learn what Knox is, what custom roms are and what custom recovery is.
This forum is flooded by people that screw there phone up because they don't take the time to read the basics. They just follow a guide and then it's help it does not work.

Utterly Confused About the S10+ Firmware Updates

I have the AT&T branded version of the S10+ , meaning I bought it from AT&T. So if you are on another carrier or have the unlocked version, this post might be of no use to you!
I have had the phone a little over a month. Since I have had it, it has gone thru several firmware updates that are confusing the hell out of me. Here's my trek log:
Phone came with firmware SD3.
About a week later it updated itself to SD7.
Some weeks later SD9 came around (I think).
I noticed the security level patch was being updated to a semi current month and that is it aside somewhere I read something about night mode on the camera (which I have) and also found a new QR scanner icon.
After that, it updates to firmware SR7 or S something 7 (I forgot the middle letter).
I was on this firmware until yesterday when it updated to SG8. I was on SG8 about 5 minutes before it said another update was available. What gives!?!? So many updates! AHHHHHH!
I read that the Sxx update (I forgot the middle letter and end number this time) just fixes some bug about the lock screen. I wasn't even experiencing said bug! Why do I need the update!?!?
So this morning after connecting to my wifi last night my phone yet again updated itself, (even though I kept telling it to remind me later) this time to SGB.
I am freaking confused Mr. Bigglesworth!
Can someone help and enlighten me here? I come from the S3 and S4 days of the galaxy line, back then only serious updates (like the patch for stage fright) and OS updates rolled out. These new seemingly random and nonessential updates are very new to me.
I'm not on AT&T and people with Samsung phones almost invariably complain about not receiving updates so your complaint is novel.
SGB is the latest Samsung build--unlocked S10+ phones got it this week (after several months with no updates) and Verizon got that update last week.
Your many intermediate updates might be coming from AT&T and be updating or fixing the carrier specific stuff they added to your phone.

so the interesting part of the firmware's are the last 6 letters on my phone those are U3ASG8.
the u3a part is the version of the bootloader you are on (this is not downgradable), so I am on the 3rd version of the bootloader.
the last 6 letters in my case SG8
-S is for the year, so in 2020 it will become T
-G is for the month (A for January, B for February and so on)
-8is the build number (they test internally find any problems then increase the version...)
if you want to find what the updates improved check
http://doc.samsungmobile.com/SM-G975F/LUX/doc.html
just change SM-G975F to your model and change LUX to your region. This is everything they say in the changelog for the update on the phone too. If it repeats the same stuff as last month that most of the time means that it was just a security update.

You know I did read somewhere that the firmware letters and numbers meant the bootloader, month, year, and build number. I didn't know I could check a site to see what the updates did/do, thanks for the post but I tried changing the lux to US and 975F to 975U but it came back with a 404 error.
