The rear speaker of my JAMin blew... I need a replacement so I can do the work myself and not have to send it over for a week to the lab. Where can I get one?
Thanks,
Nir
How to repair the sound issue on Prophet
Hi
I could read a lot of posts on that issue and found this solution:
Remove the battery cover. Then the camera cover: to do so, lift up the gently the cover starting from the side of the battery.
You will see something looking like a fan. This is the speaker. the problem is with the red wire whixh connect the speaker.
Turn on your prophet and run your favourite MP3 song.
then touch the red wire with your stylus. The sound should come back. Insert a piece of folded paper to keep the cable properly fixed. that's all
Watch out not to wish to fix it too nicely, you could damage the wire !
Hope this help, otherwise a return to the service department will be necessary !
Hope this helps
Regards

Hay the paper trick works!
I went here to learn how to remove the flap to the speakers:

Well, my speaker had the voice coil broken... touching the membrane would bring it back to life but that is no real solution. I replaced it with a speaker from a used old cellphone with some minor use of hot glue to fix it in place and seal around it.
It works now just as new.
Nir
yeah it is a real Problem.
mine is broken twice in 6 months.
tried the paper thing. but it sometimes sounds weird and there's some hissing. maybe I did it wrong. so I tweak it a bit and just lost it completely. no sound whatsoever now.
went to the service center today. they said that they have a new batch of speaker which supposed to be better than the previous one. if anyone can confirm.

That's great, this fixed my problem. After I touch the red wire with my stylus, the speaker just works fine, don't even need a folder paper.

I'll try this one myself - my speaker just died again - it's been back once already.
Well, I followed the instructions above and now I have a working speaker again. A very low tech fix to a high tech device.
I have found a small bit of sponge does the job better than folded paper.
what is the type of speaker.
i mean can i use any speaker?
what's the best?
Mohammad, you seem to have missed the point of the replies in this thread. We don't know where to get another speaker from but we do know how to make the existing one work again.
oh, dude!!!
sorry
What a piece of ugly Speaker: O2 xda Neo!
Hay Guys,
I am suffering from this nasty problem since sometime. My brother has tweaked the speakers with a metal piece seem to work. However if I use speakerphone, it goes off.
Is there a permanent solution to this constant spurce of unhappiness.
Incidently I have been blessed with a on & off camera problem as well. I think I will never buy a DOPOD product in my life again.
My Camera has those colour matrix instead of proper images. Occasionally it behaves normally. I have tried hard reset already.
Any body? help !!!!!

I wedged in a piece of foam. That's worked a treat.
The manufaturing quality of HTC is bad
I also have the speaker problem. And thanks for all of you to suggest that sponge and folder trick. I did it and i have put a small slice of ear plug sponge. For past 2 days my spearker is working. But dont know how long will this sponge give my speaker lifesupport. I am sure after few days again its going to be problem. Hey,...... is there anyone in this thread who has used sponge/paper and the speaker is working for long time.. at least a year ?.
These HTC products seem really bad quality products.
that worked

motorola l7 speaker is too a candidate
It's too bad they saved on the speaker. Guess the manufacturer of the speaker had a very nice presentation @ HTC
Trying to download that pdf file, but it's not working :/ However I've read on other occasions that people talk about that motorola speaker as a replacement. Might be worth giving a more detailed look into that.
What exactly is the problem with the speaker btw? Did anyone narrowed that down already? Why is the speaker not functioning properly?
pdf
The file contains instructions to change the original speaker using the spk of a motorola v525.
I did it yesterday, and works fine, but isn´t easy to do it
I did a REALLY a stupid thing this weekend. I had the trunk of my wife's car up and had no pockets, so I put the phone on the edge of the trunk and put everything else in the trunk. I swung the lid down and it bounced back up.
I had no idea what was keeping the trunk from closing until I saw my phone sitting there. Thankfully, the trunk's on a Toyota Echo, so it didn't crush the phone, but it did dent the faceplate right where the speaker and email/browser button is.
Now calls are really scratchy and crackling, so I'm guessing that I have a partial connection to the speaker or crunched it well enough to kill it.
While it's useable, it makes it hard to use - is there anyone on the forums that does repairs?

How about you!!??
All the info you need is here.
Mike
I know this thread is a bit old, but I just fixed the same problem with my Hermes.
Find a good disassembly guide and pull the beast apart, when you get to the speaker, it will be caved in/crushed.
There are two clips on either of the long sides, unclip them and carefully lift the metal bit off a little way, get a small jewelers flat head screwdriver and push the dints out, being very careful of the delicate wires.
Or you could just find a new speaker
EDIT: While you're at it, bend the speaker contacts out a bit too just in case they were squashed, also to get better contact.
So my g2 has a couple of chips and scratches, but thats okay given the things its been through, and idk, it gives it more of a personal kinda feel. I cant explain. But recently, my headphone jack began to stop detecting earphones at random intervals, and it was becoming a pain.
So i decided to pop off our "non removeable" but totally removeable back plate, and have a look. Its easily done by removing the sim tray and using a guitar pick or pry tool.
I saw the headphone jack in the corner, grabbed a small implement and cleaned it a little, and then put some double sided tape over it, making sure it touches no metal, and some more in other places to stop that annoying creeking my phone sometimes does.
Put it all together, and voila! I dont know why this worked, it just did and i thought id post it here in case it works for others.
I think its because when i walk the pressure against my headphone jack pushes the port against the back of the phone slightly, and angling the jack. The tape, if this is the case, holds it all together, and reduces creeking
Like i said, might just be a one off, but it worked so i thought id tell you guys, if it turns out it was just me this works for ill have the thread removed.
Thanks for reading!
I don't post much but I googled this issue yesterday and tried your solution and it worked! Just wanted to log in and thank you!
Okay so I after trying around a dozen custom ROMS, scouring the internet for ages and pulling my phone to bits multiple times, I was finally able to solve the problems with my i9506 microphone not working during voice calls when the speaker phone function was on. Basically the person I would call could not hear anything at their end whenever I turned on speaker phone function, before I solved this. This guide should also help you to get the other mic working for the standard voice calls or the voice recorder, if that is your problem. My Sammy S4 i9506 has 3 mics. I think most of the Sammy S4 versions such as the i9500, i9505, ect have the same basic construction as here and include 3 microphones. 2 mics are at the top near the 3.5mm headphone/audio jack. They are secondary mics used mostly for speakerphone function (or if you enable stereo voice recording). On the outside of the phone you will see a pin sized hole inlet in the silver frame near the 3.5mm jack. The primary mic is down the bottom of the phone. On the outside of the phone you will see a pin sized hole inlet in the silver frame near the micro USB port. It's used mostly for voice calls (when you don't have speakphone function enabled) or for mono voice recording.
So first up here's a summary of the main fixes I found...
1) The rubber inside the case around the microphones hase really small holes for the voice to pass through and also a fine mesh layer like paper. This as well and the pin prick sized wholes in the frame easily can get blocked up with dust.
2) Surprisingly enough after trying over a dozen custom ROMS (and following their install and root procedures to a T), I found that most new ROMS based Android 6, 7 and 7.1 all had issues with the microhone getting muted when selecting speakerphone during a call (Also had other bugs like while playing music and connecting the 3.5mm jack). I had to go back to the latest Original Sammy ROM from SAMmobile to get a usable speakerphone option in a call. Currently using the SAMmobile stock Nordic ROM Android 5.01 form early 2017. Very sad as the RessurectionROMs & Linage ROMs so far I really like the most slickest Custom ROM on Android 6 and 7, and almost everything works, except a couple of base line essential functions like the ones mentioned that I can't live without. Very sad, indead and I believe this is bug exists probably becuase all the these ported ROMs are based on Cyanogen code and drivers. Anyway just thought I'd mention that even after lots of nice customisation on the Stock Sammy ROM like De-odexed, Slim Rom + Root + numerous Xposed visual improvements ect the speakerphone and everything works!
Okay enough jibber jabber. Lets get into the details of the fixing the inherant dust build up in the 3 microphones rubber peices.
You will need to follow all the dissasambly steps to remove the heaphone/3.5mm audio jack.
These can be followed from the guide here:
https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Samsung+Galaxy+S4+Headphone+Jack+Assembly+Replacement/16539
At the pottom of my post you'll see my attached Pics to give you some instruction on the parts to clean...
Image 1 is the basic tools & cleaning kit I used. The main tools here for dissasembly are a small jeweler's size philips head screw driver and some plastic pry tools. (A guitar pick might be enough). The tools plus a couple more pry tools can be bought for around 2 bucks form ebay direct from China if you search for Samsung s4 dissasembly tools kit or glass replacemanet tools.
The fomulation of Alcohol may be different where you live. Basically here "Methylated Spirits" simply is 95% Ethanol plus a nasty bittering agent to stop injestion. The MSDS says it does not contain the highly toxic methanol so it should be safe to use without gloves & in indoors. Isopropanol (Iso-propyl alcohol) is more toxic so if you use it make sure it's in a well ventilated area. Methanol is just too toxic an alcohol for me. The risk of absorbing though the skin, breathing in the fumes ect and it causing blindness & liver failure are not worth it IMHO to use as a general cleaning chemical.
Okay... late night for now... I'll try post more pics & instructions for cleaing the bottom voice phone mic... but if you want to find it yourself it's another rubber rectangular peice in the frame located near the bottom close to the micro USB post. Again you'll need to stick a small brush with alcohol in it to clean out the thin tube/hole.
While I remember I should also mention that I did have some problems with the Proximity senser that was completely fixed after cleaning this too! Bascally before cleaning I would have problems where sometimes in a call having my hand of face would turn off the screen (normal) but as soon as I moved away the screen would stay off. This was particiallarly bad in Cyanogen based ROMS, Even the newer ones like Resurection ROM and LinageOS 14. After cleaning the phone will quickly turn the screen off and back on again when I move my face or hand close to the front speaker gill area then move it away again. Trust me you do not want to follow all those technical code modifications listed elsewhere on XDA that are supposed to fix the proximity sensor until you do this first. TBH I think their sensors was probably dirty and that's why their mods of increasing the sensitivity made it work again.
To clean look in photo 1 for more info. Basically see those little see through circles at the top of the phone? You have a front facing camera, proximity sensor and light senser. Clean all of them well and you'll probably find what I did... Hey! The proximity sensor works great now with no need for annoying coding mods!
does anyone have a suggestion on how to clean speakers? dirt easily goes into them
I think washing it with water might be an idea(the phone is water proof and i tested it before), but I need a better idea than water!!
I used a soft toothbrush, works for me.
You could use cotton sticks - (I do not know how they are called in english, they are used to clean your ears)
