Hi
i have got hong kong based N9005 with knox 0x0, i don't care if i trip it as it is off warranty anyway.
The phone is running android 4.3, i have tried flashing "twrp-2.8.6.0-hlte-4.4" and " n9005-cwm-recovery-6.0.4.4" using odin 3.10, the process completes with no problems but the download mode is still showing knox 0x0 and the phone still has sock recovery.
My main goal is to get root and third party recovery, i am just being cautious by not flashing stock rom though odin as it may lead me to EFS corruption (which i really don't want). I will backup my EFS after root or if you know any method to do that without root than kindly do tell me.
Thanks
Some details about phone:

android 4.3
baseband: n9005ZHUDMJ4
Download mode::
current binary: custom
sys status: custom
reactivation lock: off
knox kernel lock: 0x0
knox warr: 0x0

I will check that now. On a side question i have read in forum that once you udate to 4.4.2 there is no way to going back to 4.3, question being what are the advantages of having 4.3 rather than 4.4.2?
This section is for those readers who are coming with the same problem, i have successfully installed clockwork mod from getting the files from this link:
http://d-h.st/users/xiaolu/?fld_id=28640&s=file_name&d=ASC
any version higher than the one in the link requires Kitkat.
Previously i was flashing the wrong version of CWM on my n9005.

I have the Galaxy S4 (GT-I9500). As such I am interested in getting the stock firmware for my device. However, all I get are download links to the hotfiles posted on Samfirmware.com and samsung-updates.com. As we all know, the Hotfile download links are usually very slow. I use a slow connection so this makes it even worse. Could someone be having a download link of the stock ROM somewhere that is not a hotfile?
Seriously dude ! i want a non-hotfile link too i'm stuck with my old firmware
I'm still looking for it. If you find it be sure to share the details on this thread.

Stock S4 ROM - NOT hotifle
Hey,
Won't believe how long I've spent doing this.
I'm trying to unroot my S4 (XFA)
But now I'll just take any stock ROM.
Preferably a 4.2.2
Every single link to a ROM is hotfile....
Anybody got something for me?

I'm exactly in the same position.... I cannot find a stock ROM anywhere.
Were you successful. How did you do it?
Hi @Bigmozzarella please check out this group on Facebook It was very helpful throughout my stay with the Galaxy S4 (I have since upgraded to the Note 3). There are fast download download links to stock firmware thanks to one @stanley08. Check it out.
got it! - sorted!

OK - got it! :good:
Found it on SamMobile.
I had to join (just like one joins this forum) - there's paid membership and free membership.
Free means downloads are slower (but not that rubbish you get on all the rapidgator terafile, etc networks. I'ts just a download wihtout makign you wait 30sec, and with no restrictions like (you must wait another hour)
I went to firmware - firmware database.
There you can enter the fields, phone, model, region, etc... and I got my original 4.2.2 - as released by my mobile SP
I'm now on official, official.
4.2.2 came out before Knox - so just don't know if I have a flash count or not - don't know where / how to check - but at least no Warranty void bit yet.

@Bigmozzarella why settle for 4.2.2 when there's even KitKat out for the S4? 4.2.2 did not have the Knox counter. It is after all the Android version the S4 launched with. The Knox counter was introduced in Android 4.3. When you upgrade to 4.3 you're likely to get a new bootloader which will come with the Knox counter reading something like this : 0x0 Warranty bit: 0 when untripped and the warranty bit becomes 1 once tripped. Rooting, flashing a custom kernel, recovery or ROM will lead to that. There are ways of flashing Android 4.3 and retaining your old bootloader so as to avoid Knox. The same is the case with KitKat (not too sure, just checked for Note 3 only). You can check the S4 threads, there's a lot of such info. How to check Knox counter? Boot into your device download mode, you'll see it.
Sorted now thanks

Cheers, thanks. I sorted it out.
I had a rooted phone with a custom 4.3.
Unrooted, and flashed 4.2.2 - making it stock like the phone came out.
From there I use the usual Samsung updates up to KitKat. (with all the bloatware....and their updates )
So, I'm on the latest firmware, it's the stock Rom, No warantee bit void, and no custom Rom count.
My phone has that irritating screen issue when it flickers the S-view for no reason, and I want to take it in under warrantee - which I can do.
hello folks,
i've searched the forum and couldn't find an explicit answer for my question.
i have i9500 and i'm upgrading it's firmware to the lastest available on weekly bases, i use odin and just flash the newer firmware over the existing one, without wipe and it all seems to work just fine as it is.
now, i know for a fact that my bootloader is KNOX enabled and my KNOX flag is 0x0 (active warranty)
my question is - can (not should - bat CAN) i flash custom roms? i mean, i don't care about warrany or KNOX flag 0x1, just want to know if i can grab PAC i.e and follow the regular installation instruction without hard-bricking my device?
i would very appreciate any certified answer.
regards
There are some ROMs that u can flash without void ur warranty and u will have android 4.3. Anyway If u dont care about warranty only u have to:
1. Download correct Rom for ur device (.tar file)
2. Open Odin and flash it
OR
1. Download correct Rom for u device (.zip file)
2. Open custom recovery, wipe all and install the ROM
3. Enjoy

Ok, here are the prerequisites for not getting the KNOX POX:
#1: Don't allow the flashing of the OTA update
#2: Don't Odin flash the official stock TAR firmware. (SamMobile or elsewhere)
#3: Don't Odin flash the 4.3 NON-HLOS.BIN
#4: Don't Odin flash any bootloaders
If you have NOT done either one of those four things you will NOT catch the KNOX.
You can Odin flash the 4.3 MODEM but it is completely optional.
See which one has the best signal for you.
( or keep the exisiting MODEM which is already in your phones.)
The phone will work just find with either the 4.3 modem or your existing one.
You can flash any cwm/twrp flashable 4.3 or 4.2.2 zip file stock or custom roms.
If you follow these rules above you will not loose audio, signal or wifi and you will not catch KNOX POX.
Now that's not too difficult to understand right? LOL

Yes, you can, but only custom roms based on 4.3 bootloader.

Hi,
My cousin owns a Galaxy s4 i9505 LTE and he wanted to root it. Since i was using custom rom on my S3 i9300, He asked me to root his phone and i told him that the knox security will mess things up. Anyway i rooted it with CF Autoroot and root was successful but the phone started restaring periodically and he wanted me to restore it back to stock rom (Unroot). He bought it from UAE and the build version was I9505XXUGNH8. Since we didn't find any firmware for UAE from sammy site, he searched the google and found a link (samfirmware) and downloaded the firmware. Then i flashed it via odin. All is good.
Now he want to root it again but the SElinux status says Enforced. Tried towel root, kingoroot and other stuffs.. No hope. The Knox says 0x0 and knox void is 0x1. Android version is 4.4.2. please help me to root this phone.
Thanks in advance...
Use cf auto root. It's the only root method that works.
Afterwards make sure to delete everything knox related. There are plenty of guides out here that tell what to delete.
Thanks for the help.. and if you don't mind, can you please tell me where to find those threads about deleting knoz files and what should i do to get a custom recovery in i9505?????

Hi Mike, search the forums before asking any questions. Search google. Don't expect everyone to do your job for you. Post your threads in the right section. This question has been asked and answered a million times and you'd know this if you took 5 minutes to search a little bit.
Here's your answer https://www.reddit.com/r/galaxys5/comments/2ubsbs/guide_rooted_android_50_for_the_international/
out of curiosity, why dont you want to trip knox flag

What model do you have? Find out in phone settings in system / phone info. Sm-g900a has locked bootloader. I think verizon's phone also has a locked bootloader.
The link I gave you shows how to upgrade to lollipop, root it and keep knox 0x0.
Isn't that what you're looking for?

my bad, you did. 900f has an unlocked bootloader. when you upgrade to stock lollipop through OTA or Kies (or odin) it already includes bootloader and modem. When you do it the way described in that reddit link you flash the lollipop firmware, modem and bootloader separately. Apparently that method of updating needs it to be done so.
Honestly I have Knox 0x1 so I never cared for those methods, btw if you live in Germany then there's no need to care about Knox. In EU we're allowed to flash whatever we want and the guarantee stays intact even if you have Knox 0x1
ps. yes =p

Do you mean ota stock firmware notification? If yes then you will have it if Knox is still 0x0 if Knox however is 0x1 you will no longer be able to update via ota.
If you want to upgrade from KitKat to lollipop you must wipe data from recovery to avoid any issues. It is also not recommended by me to use titanium backup to restore apps because some might not be compatible with lollipop yet or some of the app data made for KitKat may have a conflict with lollipop system, however lots of apps have compatibility with lollipop and there is a chance you will have no issues at all when using titanium backup. Even if I said I don't recommend restoring data after such a major upgrade I do recommend having a backup whether it's with titanium backup or nandroid etc because you're able to restore apps one by one and make sure that what you restore won't be problematic.
Edit - if you update with flashfire app, there is an option to keep root when flashing from rooted KitKat to lollipop and users have reported that that feature does work for them (I personally haven't tried it).

Hello
i have the SM-N910C running the official lollipop firmware,
days ago i've rooted it using CF auto root through the odin,
And it was successful, but the question is the CF auto root
replacing the stock Kernel to another one while flashing ?
cause when i reset flash counter using triangle away even without restarting the phone it still shows in triangle away:
counter: 1
Binary: custom
system: official
but in bootloader it says:
current binary: samsung official
system status: official
secure download : enabled
knox warranty void: 1
rp swrev: 1
and the reactivation lock is off in the settings and the bootloader
i just need the software updates after root
and resetting the flash counter to Zero
and to know the kernel is it stock or custom
anyone could help ?
and sorry for any bad english, thanks.

Hi, cf autoroot doesnt replace your kernel, so u should still have stock kernel.
and also as far as i know, triangle away doesnt work on note 4 ... so right now there is no way to reset the counter to zero.
and 1 more thing is you may have posted this question in the wrong thread, you should have posted it in the Q&A thread. ^^

Good luck trying to figure out how to reset that counter permanently - so far no one managed to find a way to do that since the introduction of KNOX back in 2013.
