I'm posting this so hopefully you can avoid my awful experience with this horribly delicate screen.
I purchased the phone 3 weeks ago, and ordered a screen protector from eBay.
While waiting for the screen protector to arrive I figured I'll handle the device with extra care, and I thought I should be fine after seeing all the big fuss Samsung made about the Gorilla glass II, showing how you can mistreat it in all sorts ways, let alone place keys on it and what not, and it wouldn't scratch.
So I concluded there is not going to be any problem if I carry it around my EMPTY back jeans pocket, screen facing towards the body, so nothing external could hit it.
Alas, I was wrong, the Levi's jeans seemed to managed beating the fu**ing Gorilla glass II quite easily. Now I have a couple of nasty looking scratches right in the middle of the screen.
I am very frustrated.
Samsung did a ****ty job with this one. Don't get me wrong, in terms of computing, this device is probably second to none, and I enjoy it a lot, but releasing such a fragile device, meant for daily intensive use, and should be able to easily manage normal handling, without adequate STOCK protection is really ranking Samsung on the lower end of brands.
Don't buy the Gorilla glass II lies, it sucks. Get your device protective covers from the second it leaves the box. You have been warned.
As for me, I'm probably going to sell the device, lose a little money, and get a new one, S3 or something else, I'll see.
many ppl consider simply most resistant gorilla glass I of SII

Sands
Gorilla glass can not save u from sand particles....really.
/Keys: no problem // Sand particles: EPIC big problem.
So I am assuming...your scratches come from those pesky sands. I have to say though...I dont think there are any screen at the moment in the market which is really universally scratchproof.
Every phone I have owned has had multiple threads like this.
I'm still amazed people carry a phone in a back pocket. Forget to take it out when sitting down and bye bye phone.

couldn't agree more.....I think big glass screens have been around long enough now for everyone to know if you don't put a screen protector on straight away then you get what coming......just stop creating damn threads about it, no one is interested!
A surface is only "resistant" if the material scratching it is of equal or lesser resistance/hardness. for example keys, coins etc are all "relatively soft metals" in comparison to Gorilla glass, so no scratches.
As Sukulankur pointed out sand on the other hand is very hard and is much tougher than Gorilla Glass so sand/grit WILL scratch Gorilla Glass very easily.
Also quite obviously diamond will scratch Gorilla Glass very easily. So think twice about letting your wife use your phone to make a call whilst wearing diamond earings! lol
Mine has a few scuffs from when my little bro tried to S Memo with a a knife :crying: but tbh, the scratches aren't noticeable at most angles and are very fair.
Mines been dropped smashed of my keys and coins and it goes through all sorts and mine is still as if it was brand new. Never had any problems, and i don't understand the worry of sand I go to the beach every week with family.

you are going to sell your S3 just because you have your screen scratched? -.-
I learned my lesson after my SGS1 screen was scratched to Hell after a day at the beach and learned the difference between "Proof" and "Resistant"
And anyway I stuck an Xtremeguard protector on 5 months ago and they all rippled and have too much resistance and a lot of people say they rubbish, but mine has become like a fine wine and got better over age, because now the ripples have almost completely gone and is very smooth and fingerprint resistant and a lot of the scratches seem to disappear eventually because of the material.
Just headed inside to say this.. there is no way you can scratch the screen easily.. i used my s3 for around 2 months without a screenguard , wont say i handled it with extra care but there is not a single scratch when i took it to the shop for placing a screenguard
hi guys
i've screen protector since when i bought my N4.. but yesterday it destroyed for reasons..
i feel the screen's surface is verrry smooth and feels good without protector.. but i'm afraid of tiny scratches..
2 questions..
1. i heard there's something covering the display named "Oleophobic coating" cause this smoothness and will be gone
after some times without protector.. is it right?
2. do N4 really need screen protector?

Go to YouTube and search "Gorilla Glass 2 scratch test". Let's say that unless you expose you phone to very extreme situations you probably don't really need a screen protector.

Had mine without protector in a flip case. A 5p coin got it there and has put a little micro scratch on my screen. Can't really notice it

Its better to get a flip cover or a good case with a screen guard.
Just telling cuz if ur phone falls down by some chance... its better not to risk the device being broken.
Heyy!!i suggest that u get a flip cover which saves yr phonw from great harm but u hav to know that the screen protector is a must....
HIT THANKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSDSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSDSDSSSS

tnx guys
well... i don't like flip cover 'cause it'll be deformed after some use.. and it's really expensive here $$$
what about "Oleophobic coating" ?
is it true there are such this thing and will be gone after some use? and after that, screen won't be smooth like before..
is it true?
Gorilla glass is ifc really though but sand can scratch it completly, just so you know, clean your pockets before putting your phone it it.

ohk guys, how many of you really use a screen guard on your note 4? I am planning to use it without any kind of cover or screen guard do you think its a good idea? i really hate a sheet of plastic on this beautiful screen
I had screen guard on my Note 2 and by the 2nd year it started to come off so I just decided to take it off
It went about 8 months and it didn't have any scratches on it

Yes, I do. IMHO you should use it too. It only takes one grain of sand in your pocket to ruin your experience. I really don't mind scuffed back or sides, but screen is the most important element of a smartphone. Your choice ?
S2, S3, S4, Note 3: all used about a year each, not a screenprotector to be seen. Worked out fine. No scratches or anything to ruin the experience. I wont be molesting my Note 4 screen with a protector. If I get a scratch in a screen protector (and they do scratch more easily) then its basically the same as having a scratch on my display. Then I have to switch it every month, for what? So my screen looks great underneath my horrible protector? Meh... Also, I generally have bad experience with touch sensitivity/feel in regards to the SPen when combined with screen protectors.
Full glass protectors may be a lot better, but again: scratch it and youre walking around with a scratch on your screen wether or not its on the phonescreen or the protective screen over it.
Its like having a SWEET LOOKING toyota, but wrapping it in cardboard to keep it from scratching.
No screen protector nor case. I always had one in my previous notes. Let's see how it fares. But have one in camera lens though.
Note 4
Good afternoon folks.
I know this isn't the best place to put my question, but I didn't know where to do it.
My mom scratched my Note 4 screen by putting it in her purse, alongside all her feminine stuff.
I have an original flip case, but it opened when she putted the phone on her purse.
I need to know if there is any way to remove those scratches, only one is a little deep, but all the others are superficial.
I need help, because I've searched all over internet and all I've found is to use toothpaste and a wet kleenex to wipe it off.
Thank you all.
+1 i have same problem as op but my scratches are extremely light

Toothpaste trick only work for minimal scrathes.
Try to put tempered glass, it cant solve your problem but it will hide few scratches.
There is a paste for glass polishing, product with little sponge, the one that used for car glasses I guess will remove all scratches.

You have me curious regarding this polish. Ive always thought that superficial scratches on smartphone screens only go as deep as the oleophobic coating. Arent scratches like miniature valleys that can be filled with some sort of film or lets just say a bottle of olephobic coating? Can we have an in depth thread about scratches?
I had a similar problem . The screen of my note 4 scratched just by wearing it in my jeans pocket in the first week after purchase
I went to the nearest Samsung service and they replace the scratched screen for free . The replacing process took only an hour . This has made me a samsung fan .
So what I'm saying is go to samsung and see what they say . You may have a pleasant surprise
Hi
I got my S7 3 weeks ago and overall it is a very nice phone.
However, I'm very disappointed how easily it scratches. I've always been good with not scratching my previous phones and especially with this brand new phone, I've been careful never to have it in my pocket with keys etc. Haven't dropped it a single time or done any other stupid things. Yet I already have plenty of scratches, even some pretty deep ones. The only explanation I can think of is that one day I had the phone in my pocket with my employee card (in a plastic casing, but no sharp edges etc.) and another day with my credit card. Also, I can't exclude the possibility that the head phones (but not the jack) may have swept the surface or that it may have hit the ziplcok of my jacket when taking it out. Either way, all completely trivial things I've done to tons of phones and never had a scratch problem. I noticed the first scratch a week ago, felt a bit bummed but it was very small so just thought I would be more careful. But today I found two new scratches, and one of them is pretty big! And I absolutely can't explain how it got there.
I was happy about this phone, now I'm just thinking how I can stand the wait for the 6 month contract to be up so I can get something to replace this piece of trash.
Considering that this phone is supposed to have Gorilla Glass 4 and the insane things it should withstand, I feel very angry and disappointed that I could be in this situation even after having been so careful. I even thought for a moment maybe the plastic protection screen was still on, because it feels like it scratches as easily as cheap plastic. I feel ripped off and actually think this should be a warranty issue. But would like to know if others had this experience with S7. I have found other threads about people commenting it scratches very easily, but that was from the early days. Now you have had it for a few weeks, how do you feel?
Also I would like to warn others who already bought this phone to be extremely careful and consider a case/bumper for it. And also, to people who haven't bought it yet, if you don't like cases and bumpers (which I don't) strongly consider if this phone is for you!
This is sad. I guess Corning took four step backwards with their gorilla glass 4.

I can confirm this phone scratches almost easier than any phone I've ever owned (and that's multiple flagships from multiple mfg's several times a year for YEARS)
The only phone that scratched as easy was the Nexus 4 and the S6 Edge+
It's really micro scratches, probably in the oleophobic coating, but damn.. and some may ask why didn't this happen on the Note 5? or the S6?
I can guess.. it's because the curve of the screen causes it to come into contact with surfaces more than a flat phone. Same thing with the S6 Edge+
Price you pay for the aesthetic. But it is micro scratches.. have to hold it at an angle in direct sunlight to see them.. I have 2 already. I always use a dedicated pocket with nothing else in it, and baby my devices like you wouldn't believe.
So yeah, it's annoying, but a deal breaker? Nah. This phone's badass.

I've had mine since the 8th of March and no scratches here. Where as the S6 edge I had scratched in 2 days.

I must agree with the thought of the curved glass causing it to come into contact with different objects. I've had my edge since launch day and I've got micro scratches close to the home button. Happened on my 6 edge too. I look at my wife's S4 active and there's not a single scratch on it. I baby mine by keeping clean pockets and watching wear i put it. She has a no care attitude about hers. Always thought corning would make progress with the newer versions but with the 6 last year and the 7 this year it seems like they regressed.
the glass maybe made in china
I've always used a case and a screen protector on all my devices, and this is no different, my only problem was that I didn't want to cover up the phone's look as I love the silver look on mine, I've always had black phones so this was a must for me, I loved the way it felt bare in my hands but scared me how delicate it also felt. I got the clear spigen neo hybrid case with the silver bumper/trim and it accents the look of the phone with minimal coverage while protecting it. I hate the difference in feel of the glass with a screen protector but I guess is a trade off for protection.

This is why i put a screen protector on day one.
Im waiting on my protector for this phone tho.
Sucks not having a protector on.
Better to screen that and replace it then strach your screen and not be able to.
Also most people misd understand the glass.
Rocks and sand are what sratch the screen the most.
Keys, knives , metal. Normally done.
Its all about a hardness. And something cant be sratch by something softer then it.
And glass is made from sand so it can scratch itself pretty easy.
So you might have had a small amount somewhere.
Hello,
Same for me. Never had scratches on my phones and now I got 3 little scratches. Can't understand how this could happen! Very dissapointed ?
i never use cases or films, took my s7 to the beach and got 2 micro scratches from the sand in my pocket but they are impossible to see without taking at least 3 seconds to find them at certain angles, the screen looks brand new really... usually id see heaps of easily visible micro scratches after going to the beach... just reporting my experience.
I can also confirm the S7 Edge definitely scratches more easily than the S6 Edge. Very disappointing.
Do you mean screen scratches or cover scratches? It is very strange that a gorilla glass 4 scratch so easily.
Sended from my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Gold Platinum
fully wrapped mine with protective film and screen protector since day one... don't want to take any chances.
but sad to hear that it is so easily scratched
its really does scratches fast.. didnt do anything besides putting it in the dock as desk clock and occasional two time walk around and it has a dual line of micro scracthes ... all you need to do is take wet finger and swipe across the screen all the scratches will be visible.
How come gorilla glass got scratches ? Maybe its not gorilla glass lying samsung shame on u
barely 24 hours into using the phone already scratched like mad. just in and out of empty pocket & several calls.
i've used 4s, 6s+, z3, 1+2 all NEVER scratched like S7e on day ONE itself. what a freaking shame.
#glassgate
I'm using it every day, I also dropped it twice, no screeches.
well i droped my phone twice now one with cover where the case took a few cracks not phone
and
second time it fell flat on the screen from bit below your knee to foot hight its fine no scratches or damage no cracked glass was really lucky
also i use am Iring now to prevent my phone from falling and it also works as a stand for your phone its a great product
my phone is s7 edge
oh im also using back cover debrand skin and screen protector at first i used a tampered glass but it kept poping out so i cchanged it to film
im extra careful no matter how good the screen is i wouldn't want any scratches
I don't even think they put real gorila glass on the back. I never put any kind of protection on my screens and never got any scratches on it. This stands true for the s7 edge, but the back is scratched even by the interior of a case for crying out loud.
I can confirm they are terrible.
I've also had this phone for a month now, and after a few days of using it it now has some small and one big "scar" which Samsung support and service says it's my fault, and of course they will do nothing about it..
I ordered a screen protector, but twice, it came broken, so I'll try a different store, which is sad to see since my S4, after more than 4 years is still scratch free!
