So the Razer Forge is a nice little Android TV Device, but we can't use Netflix on it. But that's not the question here. My question is if anyone has gotten the bootloader unlocked and device Rooted? Has anyone been working on it? I also noticed when enabling developer options, that there were special "Razer Tools", which I don't quite know what they do.
Kingroot. But what is benefit of rooting it which apps are good for android tv with root.

Well, see if you can modify the build.prop to allow for Netflix Chromecasting or use of the Android TV Netflix app.

Not sure if it required to root the device. I bought one 3 days ago and spent many hours trying to get it working the way I want. I tried all different factory roms etc., but still no Google Apps etc. Finally I found the post about using Air-Share. Air-Share shows as available for the NP in Google Play. Once installed, a web server runs on the device to which once can browse. You can then upload your apk file. Once upload is completed the installed appears on the NP screen / TV. I installed Kodi, Netflix, Speedtest and many other apps this way over the last few days.

I just bought the NP so I can use Kodi & Netflix. The rest is optional. I like some of the stuff that shows on the home screen sometimes that is recommended by Youtube. The only thing I dont like about the BP is that there is no power off. In other words Google wants 24/7 access to the thing.

Ill be using root with Proxy Droid and TWC TV so I can stream TWC from a family members house. Also, stickmount should work now so external USB drives can be manually mounted to increase storage space. I imagine for the most part that root will offer many the same benefits as it did for fire tv users plus its good just to future proof yourself I guess because the exploit wont last forever.

Also, for those saying KingRoot isnt working make sure your device is connected with Wifi ONLY, do NOT change the file name from its original and install via a file explorer and not directly from within team viewer.

Well, the ADT-1 or the Nexus Player. The reason being, I wanted to see if either Netflix Casting or the netflix app work.
Something was mentioned here: https://plus.google.com/+IsraelOliverJr414515/posts/JJRT7GXZvvp

Is there anyone out there working on a fix or workaround for this?

I feel ya bro, and I'm pretty sure the devs are already looking into it. Since it is a DRM authorization issue, it is probably going to be a pretty good hack to get around it.
I'm confused by 2 things on this topic:
1) why does it matter if its rooted or not?
I would assume the answers is because root would allow us some magical privledge of copying a cache and possibly extracting video and then redistributing.
2) how the frig can it tell?

My guess is either one of: (1) checking for the ro.secure property being set, or (2) doing something "rootable", like being able to read a certain file/directory, etc.
If in the former case, I don't have an idea of what to do that wouldn't require the HC source, but in the case of the latter, it'd be relatively easy to ... wait- don't let me help El Goog out. It's not rocket science (think rootkit, but in reverse).
Well instead of listening I tried it as well with The Green Hornet and couldn't download it. Kept getting error but these developers will come up with the answers they have been nothing short of amazing when it comes to the Moto Xoom

This is the same with the blockbuster app on the Atrix. I can set SU to block requests from the app, but as long as I'm running rooted, it refuses to play (and tells you when you launch the app).
I don't understand the difference between this and running Itunes or Netflix on a "rooted" (admin capable) PC. Why is the phone different?

So did you still get charged for it? The wifi version won't even get the movies for awhile. I don't know why Google doesn't have it ready for both.
It isn't very surprising to hear. None of the major studios will allow media to be downloaded without some form of restrictive DRM and root access probably violates their policies.

Would make more sense for it to check if you're rooted before the transaction goes through.
Nice Google, what a great way to pit the development community against you, even though Android would be nothing without us. Sellout.
Strange, I have unlocked and rooted Nexus One and could play any Netflix video in official Netflix app, so DRM works on rooted system. So may be it's problem with something else?
If you order thru your web browser by going to the web based android market and play it thru your web browser it works.

I noticed that I could not connect to 5GHz after updating to stock ICS. I mentioned this before in a thread and wanted to share with everyone else here. This requires root!
This is credited to Entropy512, I used his guide for the sgs2 found here.
I use Es File Explorer found on the Play market
1. Navigate to /system/etc/wifi/
2. Open nvram_net.txt and change the ccode from GB to ALL.
3. Save
4. Reboot
Pretty straight forward and should be easy for everyone.
For P7500 users and international firmware, check to verify nvram_net.txt_us ccode=US
Thanks.. working so far but i have to test it on 5GHz Access Point.
Will reprot later...

Thanks for this info.
This is, so far, the only reason I want to root my tab.
My tab works great. No problems with YouTube or anything else.
However, I have an Amazon Prime membership, and streaming videos is a chore.
I can get it to work reasonably well with some videos, but most are choppy, etc., the usual stuff.
I'm pretty sure it's due to the wireless access I have, an Apple Airport Express. It works fine for everything except Amazon videos.
The range is quite limited, and I think it's just not quite up to the task of streaming movies (a shame really, because it's otherwise been solid as a rock since I installed it in March. It was also a snap to set up even for me, who knows nothing about wireless).
I'm guessing that the new model Express, which has both 2.4 and 5, will give me the extra ooomph I need.
If not, I may have to bite the bullet and get a new router. I hesitate because the wired router I have works great.
Thanks again.

Hey just wanted to say thanks for the review. I was on the fence about this and you sold me with the side loading ability. I loved the original Fire, and was looking forward to this. But after reading a few posts about it being locked, and now knowing if it will be rooted I was no longer sure about it. So side loading makes a huge difference.

The Play Store requires files to be manually placed into the /system/app folder and the permissions to be changed. That requires root. All of the other apps were either grabbed from my Nexus 7, or found elsewhere. I downloaded ES File Explorer from the Amazon Appstore, and used it to install the apks.

Thanks for the great review !
The two apps I'm most interested in getting to work on a Kindle Fire HD are Google Maps and Google Now. I know there's no gps but I assume there is some kind of wifi based location ability ? Or just tell Google Maps where I am.
I figure maps shouldn't be too hard, what do you think ? I guess Google Now might require rooting though, is that the case ?
The device itself is pretty sick. But it's still stuck in Amazon's crappy software. It's like putting rims and ground effects on a Pinto; either way, it's still a Pinto.
Thanks for the review - I would like to see how the ComiXology app works but the fact that sideloading works takes a great load off my mind.
I'm definitely going to save up for the 8.9".

There's apps that you won't see on the Play Store within the NP, but if you go on your computer browser you will see that they are compatible with the NP so you could install them through there. You could also side load apps.
FYI....you could buy an OTG cable along with a USB hub and attach additional storage or keyboard and mouse to it as well.
I bought the Startech Micro USB to USB OTG Host Adapter on amazon for $5 and it works perfect.

Thank you for the feedback. Yes I want to install Remix OS on a different mojo; I won't attempt that until I have Fastboot up.
I created the folder/link for a kodi box support group on fb. The procedure is simple enough for the average user and it's important mojo owners get rooted and SuperSU installed - there is a piece of ransomware that is targeting Android 4 devices. CM 12.1 is stable and user friendly - and it's android 5.1 which will run the newer versions of Kodi.
Adding it here was an afterthought.

Good thought, even if it was after. You don't need fastboot to install RemixOS, or any other one, but if your MOJO is soft-bricked and you can't get into TWRP recovery you can fastboot boot the recovery and flash from that. You can also fastboot flash the recovery. And BTW you do not necessarily need MoDaCo's fastboot, if you're set up for other Droids like I was you can use your existing fastboot setup. I find it easiest to do from Linux.
Yes, I like the Lollipop ROMs myself, a huge advance over KitKat (IMHO they shouldn't have bothered to release KK). And Marshmallow is even better, much to my amazement. I wish I had the extra time to learn to port ROMs myself, there'd be a MM ROM out for the MOJO about now!

1) Call or e-mail Amazon tech support

Probably not a problem with the Mad Catz device probably a problem with the OS. Stock is Android 4.2, CM doesn't seem to work with every player. Remix works with more players but I don't know if it will work with Prime. I'll try later.

It really is isn't it? Once you get over the hurdle of flashing a decent ROM, you're set. Fantastic little gadget. I was very lucky to get it for £60 here in the UK. I don't think I've ever had emulation play so well on anything before.
thank you ...for reply and advice now I will try to flash the new ROM I have to read more instruction.... again thanks

I'm a Prime member but it'll be a couple weeks before I get a real chance to fiddle with it, so if nothing more comes up to prevent it, maybe I'll try it on CM12.1 then. Too many irons in the fire now...
Last year, there was a workaround to play Prime videos via the Dolphin Browser with flash activated. However, ever since Amazon Prime Video dropped Flash support, it's no longer working.
Prime was the reason I bought my first MOJO, ended up selling it when the the workaround stopped working. As of now, I use the (second) MOJO for Kodi and the Youtube App only.
It's truly a shame we can't use it for a service we pay for, especially when they claim on their website that all android systems (>4.0) are supported.
I haven't tried any other custom ROMS since the stock meets my needs for now(minus Prime Video). But please do let us know if it works on the custom ROM you try.

I just got Amazon Video working on the Remix ROM. No tricks, it just works.
Additional note Xposed also works on that ROM. And Paragon should offer NTFS support. I like Remix - next step get a HDD working.
